It's time for coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. Now, here's Nick coffee. All right, we're gonna get right to it. Scottie Scheffler just had us press conference just moments ago, and a courtesy of our news team news Radio eight forty WHS, we have a handful of clips that I will share with you guys. But I do want to let you know that if you didn't know, this is coffee and Company and

we are fueled by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciate you hanging out with us. You could take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on the iHeartRadio app Listen live at seven ninety Louisville dot com. And we will get back to the phone lines and let you guys once again react to the piece. You know, this is a big piece of news man

and not just locally but nationally, and it still doesn't seem real. The number one golfer in the world, who you know, was the lead or after yesterday's first first day of the PGA Championship at Valhalla, was arrested with numerous charges, one being a felony, second degree felony for assault on a police officer and taken to jail, immediately released and then came back and made it in time to uh to get right back at it. I mean, it's just again you say that loud. It doesn't seem real, but it

is real. And uh, here is what he had to say about you know, why he you know, didn't tell the police who he was. And I guess just the you know, not all. I mean, there's not a whole lot of details here as far as what led to it, but I guess this is more so what we saw from the video that was that was put up this morning from the reporter that was on side, Jeff

Darlington. You know, let's just let you hear it. When when they got me out of the car, I you know, I uh, like I said, it was very chaotic and you know, I said, I'm sorry, I'm just trying to get to my tea time. And outside of that, it was then it just things you know, escalated from there. I did, you know, numerous apologies and whatever, but like I said, it was it was chaotic. It's dark, it's raining, you know, there's a lot of stuff going on. They just had an accident.

I didn't know what had happened at the time other than there was an accident. I didn't know that it was it was fatal, and yeah, like I said, my heart goes out to the family. But no, at no point did I did. I tried to name drop myself to diffuse the situation. I just tried to remain as calm as possible, and you know, just fall instructions. I'm never somebody that would have the ability to name drop myself to maybe get me out of a jam. But even if I

did, I can't imagine that I would have, you know. I just that to me is so cringe, and I think he knows that too. But this is one of those instances where I do think if you would have cleverly and not you know, in a I mean, maybe somehow let them know who you are, but don't do it in a manner of like, do you know who the hell I am? You're making a big mists.

You're gonna regret this, buddy. If you could do it kindly, they probably still take offense that they that you appear to be under the impression that that's going to help your situation and change the fact that you did something in their mind that is a serious crime. But man, I feel like had they known, you know, who he was, it wasn't it was. I don't think they would have thought, well, okay, that changes everything,

let me let me apologize. But it might have it might have hit pause on the situation for a moment to where you would just reflect on Okay, let's think about this, let's discuss and see if we need, if this needs to be escalated to the point that it ended up getting where he ended up getting arrested and going to jail, because it's a bad look. Now again, maybe you we'll find out some details that we don't know. Maybe they'll be body cam footage that makes it look as if Scotti Scheffler was

just trying to be a trying to be an a hole. But then again, like even the officers never claimed he told them. I mean they asked, Jeff Darlington, can you tell us who we've arrested? So again, it's good to hear something from Scheffler, and there's a couple of you know, we've got more clips. We're gonna play he in just a moment. But what I keep coming back to is that from the people that are describing it. I mean, Scheffler kind of described after the fact there. But

again, we'll hear more. And I'm hearing some of this for the first time too, by the way, and then the police report and then Jeff Darlington's report, in Jeff Darling's video, all of that together, it is all kind of the same story. There's not somebody sharing a completely different side than the other. But it still makes you wonder how we got to that point, Like, how did it escalate to that to where he's going to

jail. There's no way there's I mean, there's not even a conversation to be had, don't matter who he is, no matter if he's the president. And even even through that first clip you just played, I think you were dead right in the first hour, he seems very calm, cool and collected about this entire thing. It's not defensive at all. It's almost like he kind of understands maybe that what he did was something he's not allowed to do legally, but it was it was all due to a misunderstanding. But

also I just again, everybody's different, everybody reacts to things differently. He did highlight the fact that it was dark, it was rainy, it was chaotic, which is which in that moment, you're not thinking that clearly, right, Like it's it's you know, hell, some people just driving in the rain when it's dark outside will put them in a panic attack. So

like it is a very highly you know, hectic situation. But if somebody has attached themselves to my car and I know that this person is either law enforcement or somebody that is working traffic, I just can't process how you just decide to drive for fifteen to twenty yards. That doesn't make any sense to me. All right, here is here's what he had to say, and there's some of his you know, he talks about after, you know, talk talk a little bit of golf, which we will let you guys hear

that as well. But here is, you know, how he described what was going through his head as he was being booked, I assume for the first time as a criminal and being charged with multiple charges, including a felony. I didn't really know. I was just so confused at what was happening at the time that, you know, I didn't know what time it was, I didn't know what was going on. But when I was sitting in

like the holding cell or whatever I was. There was a TV there and I could see myself on the TV on ESPN and it was Get Up was on and so in the corner it showed the time and they said they were delayed, and I was kind of thinking about my tea tong. I was like, well, maybe you know, I could be able to get out. You know, the officers downstairs and you know, they were discussing how

long it was going to take me to get released. You know, obviously you have to go through all the due process and everything, and you know, I was able to kind of see a bit of the TV, and you know, then I laid down and then I started to stretch a little bit, once I got my heart rate down a little bit. I don't

know Scotti Scheffler at all. Like I know he's a phenomenal golfer, but I don't and I know the reputation that he has is kind of a very very clean cut not you know, very I want to call him like a dork, but like, you know, he's not somebody that you would ever expect to be potentially getting arrested. Like those who follow golf really closely.

A few people that I know personally, you know, said, if you'd asked me which golfer could potentially have been in this situation this morning, he would have They would have There would have never been a scenario where any of them would have He'd have been the last guy you would have expected. I'm not really sure he would have expected, but nonetheless, like it's just it's it's a big surprise, but you know, he's he's not blaming law enforcement.

And I kind of expected, regardless of what I already know about his reputation, that he would be very defensive, but his calmness and just kind of whatever about it almost makes it seem even more so that it just didn't need to get there, right, Like, I don't know, I'm sure we'll never hear from, you know, the actual officer that that was that was involved, but body cam footage it probably won't lead to any charges being

dismissed because again, nobody's disputing what is in the report and in what you know, the what Jeff Darlington claims happened. It just comes down to did it need to get that far? Was it an overreaction? And I guess at the end, even if you see body cam footage and that gives us the complete context. We have literally a view of everything and how it played out and how it got there. It really just comes down to your opinion, right Like maybe somebody would say, you know, they did what they're

supposed to do. Others would say that cops should have you know, de escalated and not taken it that far. But I go back to what I said at the beginning of the show, and that is this, first of all, before I get to that, condolence's thoughts and prayers to the family of John Mills. He is the gentleman who was killed today that you know, he's a volunteer and by the way, volunteering for to do this you

have to pay. So this is someone that clearly was probably on you know, uh, you know, living out his dream working as a volunteer to help with this PGA championship, because again it's a monetary investment you have to make just to be able to be a volunteer and you don't get paid to do it. And day to this event he loses his life. So just a tragic, tragic situation. Terry Miners tweeted this out just a moment ago

and shared the picture of John Millston said. Mister mills family released this photo of the media, noting he was enjoying his time at Valhalla working security. He liked to stay busy in retirement. We love him and we will miss him. So just an absolute tragedy and that, you know, it's it's awful and I don't really know how to transition, you know, past that.

But when it comes to the overall reaction to learning that the unthinkable happened, the number one golfer in the world, on his way to the second day the PGA Championship, was arrested and ended up going to jail. I mean, it's it's a can't it is a you can't make this up story, right, So it reminded me of something that has been pretty evident in recent years in this country, and that is that we are so divided and I'm not here to try to like bring us together because I'm somebody that you

know, I don't. I mean I think independently. I know, and doesn't mean that I'm always right or my opinions are better than anybody else's, But like I don't jump to any side of anything because of previous situations, because of beliefs, because of politics. I just I don't do. I just don't. That's just not how I'm wired. But it was quite clear that without anybody really disputing facts, without anybody, you know, seeing body cam footage, we have people that are just inclined to not let it play

out, think for themselves, and then gather whatever opinion they gather. They're just they're of the belief that, well, this didn't need to happen. It's those dirty cops at LMPD. They're always being jerks and abusing their authority. They think they're badasses with that badge. Like there are people that just without knowing anything, just saw that he was arrested and ran with that.

And then there are others same situation, right, They just hear that, you know, he's charged with this and he's arrested, and they just assume, well, hey, screw this guy. He thinks he can do this.

What's the outrage he broke the law? Doesn't matter. These the number one golfer back the blue, Like without really even people even reading a headline, I'm sorry, just reading a headline, without reading the details of an article, without hearing Jeff Darlington talk, they just see that and they are programmed to just default to whatever you know, their political party is likely going to the majority of them run with. And I just you know, I

would never want to. I mean, I would want to think for myself and not care about what anybody else thinks about it. I'm going to have my own opinion, and you know, I think I've talked about it many times, not even related to like politics or anything, but just when it comes to like sports, which is what we usually talk about on this show, right, I don't care if you have a different opinion. I don't.

I live in a world where we can have strongly different opinions and it doesn't mean that we hate each other, can't converse in that you know, you're a scumbag. I just don't. I don't know how we got there, and a lot of people aren't like that. But you know, having an opinion that is completely different than mine is something that I can be content with when it comes to that other person. And I think, again,

I choose to believe there's still many people out there like that. But you know, like just there's a part of this whole situation where I'm thinking, Man, Twitter was made for days like this, because it's just you know, all there's t shirts being sold already with his mugshot. I mean, people are cracking jokes, and you know that's that's Today was a Twitter day to shine. But it also you know, Twitter, Facebook, wherever you go on the internet. It's the ultimate minder of what I just mentioned.

We are so divided, and I think you just have people again that just default to what they assume the majority on their side would would run with and believe without even you know, learning and seeing. And again we don't have that, we don't have the full context, we don't have the body cam footage and whatnot. So all right, let's see what are the other the

other clips here that we have. Yeah, these are mostly the clips of him discussing, you know, the golf and how he's gonna you know, move forward with the rest of the event, which I'm sure you guys want to hear that too. But this is another one really quickly that I'll share with you. This is him being complimentary of of l MPD. Let's see here, the officer that took me to the to the jail was was very

kind. He was great, you know, he had a nice chat in the car that kind of helped calm me down, and I was sitting there waiting to kind of go in. I asked him. I was like, hey, excuse me, can you just come he just come hang out with me for a few minutes so I can calm down. And uh, you know I was. I was never you know, angry. I was just in shock and I think my body was just I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. It was. It was definitely

a new feeling for me. And he came out and we had a nice chat, and then the the officers inside the jail were tremendous. A couple of them made some jokes. I think when they figured out, you know, who I was and what happened and you know how I ended up there, you know, they Uh this one, this one older officer looked at me as I was doing like my fingerprints or whatever, and he looks at

me. He goes, so do you want the full experience today? And I kind of looked at him and I was like, I don't know how to answer that. And He's like, come on, man, you want a sandwich? And I was like, sure, I'll take a sandwich. I didn't breakfast yet and so, I mean, they're really kind. I'm grateful to have I'm grateful that we have, you know, such strong police and you know there are protectors out there, and you know, like I

said, we just got into a chaotic situation this morning. That's really all it was. I Mean, I'm kind of at a loss for words because I'm not sure he could be handling this better as far as just being calm, not being combative, not blaming anybody, just being respectful and mature. But it also makes it even more mind boggling how it happened, does it not. I mean, this guy went to jail like it's never been a jib In charged with a felony. It's all over the world for people to

see. And he's like, well, you know, just to intend to just a chaotic situation, that's what happened. It just makes it even more puzzling how we got there. And it also again maybe I'm just you know, buying into his calm and you know, respectful response here, mature response I should say to where I'm thinking that clearly the cop had to have, you know, escalated this rather than de escalate, and it was just somebody trying to prove a point as a law enforcement officer. But I can't.

I don't know that. You know, maybe I'm naive, but I don't think anybody can be that calm and be putting on a facade about something. Yeah, oh, I'm with you. That's why I'm you know, I love whenever. You know, at times we hear something for the first time on the air, and you know, John and I are not in the same room. We're looking at each other on a monitor and like you and I have the same face. Like, wait a second, what Like again,

he didn't say, I don't. I'm not sure he could have answered that any better, right, But also it's just like, dude, then how did this happen? It makes you wonder how has this gotten blown so far out of proportion? And maybe that's not the case. Again, like keeps saying, we don't have the entire story, but from his perspective, as somebody who was involved with it, he is the subject of what's going

on along with the officer, he's more calm than anybody. Yeah, I mean, it's there's somebody who is, you know, in charge of like media relations, you know, maybe not even just media relations. But like when something happens with an officer involved in a situation, you don't hear from that officer, right, you hear from a spokesman of of of LMPD. Yeah, And I don't know has that happened yet? I don't know. I mean, and look, they may not feel like they need to because

to them it could just be a pretty cut and dry thing. This is what happened, this is what this guy did, and we took action because

we're law enforcement and that's what we're supposed to do. But is there a scenario this just kind of like is whatever, Like we don't get any other Like it just ends up to where, hey, he goes to you know, he goes to you know, he gets charges drop because he you know, apologizes or something like, and that would be that would probably be best case scenarios if there's a very peaceful resolution to where he doesn't have some serious

criminal record. Like there are so many people initially it probably still now that are demanding he gets an apology and he may be owed that if we find out that like he was mistreated or something. But he doesn't seem like he wants an apology, Like he's not upset. He doesn't seem like he was wronged in any way to or form I just you know, I'm it becomes

more fascinating. I hope this becomes a great example in the future, and maybe it won't be talked about if it's not so negative, because that's the way that the world works. But I hope it becomes an example for the future when things like this go down on how people should handle themselves in situations like this. It wouldn't mean again, I don't think it would happen this way, but if in fact, you know he I mean, he's already to me kind of been like, yeah, you know, this chaotic situation,

and he hasn't said much about a misunderstanding. He hasn't mentioned anything about knowing if in fact the guy on his coming. He hasn't talked about that that I've heard as far as the car, and he probably would be advised not to get into those details by his attorney. But maybe the cop comes out and says, look, I could have de escalated it. It was a highly intense situation. We just had a tragedy where somebody was hit by

a bus and lost their life. It's raining, it's dark, traffic and parking has already been very very you know, chaotic, and you know, I let my emotions get the best of me. Like if they just completely came to like cooler heads and they were like, hey, that really,

charges are dropped. You know, I'm sorry what I did. I probably should have, you know, not drove off with you attached to my car and the cops like, well, you know what, I probably should have cooled down a little bit and not been so aggressive and maybe had a conversation with you after the fact that just kind of see what was going on and what the misunderstanding was. If that transpired and everybody's good to go and we're washing hands of it, that would be best case scenario, would it not.

However, however, nobody wants that. Somebody wants somebody to be at fault here because we're so divided people. People don't want the police to be blame. People want the MLL and PD to be sued because they think they're a bunch of bad cops. And people you know also want you know, this guy to do due time because he think because in their mind, they think he tried to get away with something because of his status, like it just you know, usually we talk about like fun stuff on the show.

We haven't done that yet. But one thing I will tell you is that we we are going to take a brief detour to discuss some hard hitting sports items. I mean kind of. They're not really that intense, not hard hitting, but you know, some updates that I want to share with you guys. But obviously this is still going to be a talking point because it's the biggest story on the planet right now, seemingly. And I don't think

i've I say that, you know, showing local biased. I think it's again, it's all anybody's talking about across the world, all right, don't go anywhere. It's coffee and company. Feel abut Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety If you are looking to buy or sell a home, I've got the folks you need to reach out to when it comes to that process, and

that's Elin and Eland Realtors. They've been a full service residential real estate brokerage here in the Louisville market, Kentucky in the market, I should say, since nineteen seventy six. I'm sure you've heard of them. They're well respect did, because again they've been doing this since nineteen seventy six. They participated

in thousands of clothings representing hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate. And they will list your home for just one percent, and that alone, I think is incentive enough for you to trust them in this process of moving, buying, and selling your home. They also have the one percent buyer's rebates.

So by doing this, I'm sure business is great for them because when you hear all that they can do for you, including again help you save money, people are probably lining up to give them business and that, and it's because they're really going out of their way like nobody else does, to help you keep a lot of your hard earned money in your pocket when you make a move. And moving can be expensive. There's costs that pile up. So elin and eland eland dot com is the website five oo two five

nine nine twenty eight hundred again fib oo two fine eight hundred. To give Film Offit a call, he'd he'd be happy to hear from you. And again, maybe you know somebody out there that does real estate that kind of stuff. I mean, look, tell them, with all their rest I'm gonna go with Eland and Eland because they're gonna do one percent for listing my home and that's something I can't pass up. And by the way, they're

going to make the process from start to finish a breeze for you. So again, it's eland dot Com five two, five, nine nine, twenty eight hundred. All right, let's talk some baseball. That's what we usually do on the show, right John, talk a little baseball, the kings of baseball. So I want to give a shout out to the Spaulding University Golden Eagles baseball program. My cousin, Caleb Coffee, is a freshman for Spaulding, and uh, he's a talented player. I mean, he's a

Coffee that goes without saying. But he had his first career home run last week when they were in postseason play and they ended up winning the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship over the weekend for I believe the second yeah, the second straight season. So now they are in NCAA tournament action. It's Division three and yeah they they they're in a rain delay. Now. I think they were supposed to start at three maybe like later tour. It may actually

be around six o'clock. But when I get the specifics, I'll let you guys know, because that's who we need to be pulling for. Spaulding. You know, they used to be inn Ai back whenever I was younger, when I was in school. But they've gone D three and it seems as if it's been a good decision for the university because I feel like they've had some they've had success in a variety of their athletic programs over there. So

again, shout out to the Spaulding Golden Eagles. Also, real quick, another little baseball thing I wanted to bring up here because this is just I mean, this is something that is getting some national attention for obvious reason. When you'll know when I tell you what it is. But it just happened

right across the river here at Indiana University Southeast. Did you hear this, John, Indiana University Southeast won a game the other day that if you're watching it live, if you're there, or if you're watching on the stream, you would, you know, you would assume that there's no way they were going to win. They were down. Let's see here, let me see here. Yeah, this is almost unbelievable. They were playing Indiana Tech.

Indiana Tech and Indiana University Southeast and Indiana Tech bleue a none run lead with two outs in the ninth. Wow, so I did not know. Two outs in the ninth Indiana Tech has a non run lead in Indiana University Southeast rallied like you would never believe to come back and win. I mean, just absolute insanity. The one thing I like about baseball is that you can't really ice the game. Yeah, make sure a million runs or whatever you have to pitch. You have to give him a chance to come back.

That's what they did. This video has two point two million views and it's the final play where again I use Southeast scored twelve runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win it. Bananas, absolute bananas. I guess this is as they're realizing, Oh wow, they're rallying and I guess got the first two outs of the ninth relatively quickly. The last one has been to too Goodwin high and deep to dead center field again at the track. He he jumps and did he catch it? No, he didn't catch

it or did he nobody knows? Again, didn't catch it. It's a walk off, three run home run to dead center field by Trevor Goodwin, and I use Southeast with their backs against the wall, score twelve runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to steal game one and up playing today. I love that announcer because he's I mean, the feet here is just a webcam out across the entire field from like the from the like the the what do you call it the like the booth? Yeah, but it's

not called that in baseball. What is it? I don't know what it's called. You're supposed to know, Like everything's the ball stall. Every sport had just a broadcast booth. But even if you're not broadcasting, like there's no broadcasts in high school baseball, but they have them there, like it's called something. I'm a total dumbass, and I wish at times you could bail me out, but it makes it to where I'm even if you did know, I've pressured you to just come through and tell me what it is.

I'm blanking on either way. You know, he doesn't have a replay, Like he doesn't know like so that's why he's just out there waiting to see what the refs actually tell you. The umps actually tell you what happened, because you know he's calling it from not a great vantage point. But yeah, the uh that to I mean again, twelve runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win. I mean again, it's one thing just to come back and win that in that situation, but to score

the twelve runs when you already have two outs makes it. I mean, the win probability there had to be non existent, and sure enough they ended up getting it done. All right, So bit a big week for Pat Kelsey, right. He landed case in Pryor on Tuesday, which was exactly the exact kind of piece they needed in the transfer portal. And then a day later they landed Kahannie Ruth's the freshman to be top thirty recruit forward.

So now there are two scholarships left. And Noah Waterman arrived yesterday for a visit, and there were some pictures that somebody took of him at Jeff Ruby's, which I would say is a good spot to take somebody who's visiting Louisville and you know, taking in everything, and it sounds you know, I have no clue what's going to happen. I think Louisvill's always believed to be in a good situation because Louisville apparently has had interest in him before he hit

the portal, and there's been mutual interest. I saw some social media posts from months back that kind of confirm what has been out there, and that Ali Khalifa, the former BYU player who's already transferred to Louisville, they were very close friends, not just teammates, but they're very close. So I would imagine while he's been pondering, hey, do I want to hit the portal or not, Ali Khleif has been telling him, hey, you should

consider Louisville. You'd fit in great here. It's awesome, and that led

to him hitting the portal and then making a visit yesterday. And I've heard nothing about the visit, good or bad, but he is expected to go to Cincinnati and visit there as well, which doesn't mean like Louisville's in trouble or anything like that, but I just I think a lot of times we end up assuming that if a guy visit, if a guy visits and doesn't commit and then he goes elsewhere, that that automatically means that you're not going to get him. And to be fair, I don't know if that's actually

happened with any like. I think everybody who has committed to Louisville that visited did commit shortly thereafter and didn't go elsewhere. In fact, I'm not even sure if they were scheduled to go elsewhere. So I guess maybe you're, you know, you're following the pattern that has developed with the roster additions and just assuming that if they if they want to go elsewhere after they visit, that maybe it's a red flag. But for what it's worth, Case and

Prior didn't even visit, I mean, he did not visit Louisville. He committed the Louisville the day after Louisville. Probably, I mean, I think it's quite clear what happened there. The five way two circle was able to add a little more money to the Nile package for Case in Pryor once they realized they don't they're not going to owe any money to Great Ausiinbor because he's going to Washington. So that led to him taking you know, making it.

And maybe I'm wrong, maybe he visited and nobody knew about it, But I don't believe that he had taken a visit yet, and that's going to be more normal now because of it being a this is you know, this is a transactional thing more so than it ever has been. And it all I mean at times. I mean I think before nil players were still

probably getting in admissible benefits in some way. But now if you're a transfer like Prior, who's a fifth year dude, I mean, this is why you're still playing in college is I'm sure you want to have a successful last year and win and be a part of a winning program, you know, really enhance your college basketball career. But also you can make a lot of

money, so visits matter. But like you can get guys to visit, or you can get guys to commit without visiting if you if you have the right pitch and they really like the coach, they like the vision, and of course they like the money that you have. The young man from Oklahoma State, Garrison, who transferred to Kentucky from Oklahoma State, he did not visit Kentucky. I don't think he has yet actually, or maybe he has sense, but he committed without visiting, and I think it's because the Nile

offer was attractive. He probably likes Mark Pope and said, you know, let's get it done. So and I'm not Two things about Noah Waterman to share that I think are worth sharing. One, Cincinnati just landed a player that is, you know, maybe not the same exact position, but a stretch for Dylan Mitchell, a former five star forward who was playing for I believe Texas most recently. He was like five star kid coming out of high

school. He is now going to play for West Miller at Cincinnati, and that has led to the Cincinnati Insider that covers the Bearcats for twenty four to seven Sports, he is reporting, and this is Chad Brindle, that he kind of doubts that they see the Waterman visit actually happen, given the fact that they just landed Mitchell. So I think Watermen would be a phenomenal addition because I think he's a good player, but also stylistically, I mean he's

I mean, he fits exactly with what I mean. If you're if you are somebody that has some perimeter skills, you're big, you know, you've got versatility for somebody your size, and you can shoot it. I mean, I think Pat Kelsey among other coaches, I mean actually I think Mark Pope, to be honest with you, is I mean, I'm gonna be curious to see if we end up seeing, you know, down the line here, if Mark Pope and Pat Kelsey kind of go after the same type

of players, because offensively, they're very similar. And the way I watched Mark Pope use Noah Waterman and you know, some of the highlights at BYU, like he could, I think that's exactly what he would do at Louisville, And you know, that would be a nice edition. So we'll see, maybe we could be on commitment watch. Maybe he now doesn't want to consider Cincinnati because of that addition that they just added, and now he knows

Louisville's going to be, you know where he ends up. So fingers crossed, because that would be another really nice piece. All right, let's take a quick time out. We'll come back and wrap up the four o'clock hour, see if there's any more updates added context, maybe some body cam footage of what went on. But some of you guys have some of you guys have you know, insinuated that like this could just play out and nobody get bodycam footage. But I think if you do like an open records request and

ask for it. It could be public, but it you know, clearly somebody is going to do that. The number one golfer in the world was arrested. People are going people have probably already requested it, and I think any minute we're either going to find out if it's going to be available or if you know, there wasn't a body cam, and if that information is

already out there and I've just missed it, please let me know. All right, keep a locked right here on Sports Talk seven ninety's like the second time in a week or so we've played akon, isn't it it is? This is courtesy of Austin. Our friend Austin wanted to hear little locked up. Yeah. I mean it's fitting fitting for today, no doubt so.

Earlier this afternoon around two o'clock, Mayor Greenberg did release his statement. He was on earlier and I was going to play the sound, but it was when he was on with Tony cr was earlier this morning, and at that point, as you could expect, just expressing thoughts and prayers with the victim who lost his life in the accident and his family and just everybody and that's that's a traumatizing experience for everyone involved. But also you know, if someone

lost their life, so very sad. But again I don't think given how much has transpired since then and what it escalated to, you know, I didn't think the clip from Cruise's show was worth but worth hearing. But here's the statement. This is this morning, our city experienced a tragic accident and took the life of John Mills, a Louisville Alleuivillian, who will be greatly missed by his family and our community. Our focus is on the family who

lost their loved one. I've spoken with members of mister Willis's family to convey our city's condolences. Following this tragedy, LMPD stopped traffic to assist with its investigation and if they laccident. It is unfortunate that an incident took place between an LMPD officer and mister Scheffler while we while he was attempting to enter Valhalla. LMPD is fully investigating this incident and the legal process will proceed. We

appreciate everyone's cooperation. We remain focused on this tragic loss of life and we'll share more information on both of these matters as available. So I just I have so many questions as far as does any like you know, like everything that Scotty Scheffler has said, which if you missed it, we will play some of that sound for you guys again coming up here at the beginning of the five o'clock hour. But you know, he doesn't really seem to think

that what law enforcement did was wrong. I mean a lot of people on the text line have said, wouldn't you think that he would come out and say that he was wrongfully charged? He did not commit the charge, He did not commit the crimes that he is charged with. If he I mean, like, I have no clue where it goes from here, Like are they fighting to get charges dropped or are they going to you know, just

plead I don't I mean, I don't know. Like, first of all, I would not have guessed that he would have taken any questions today, but he did. He talked about, you know, his round of golf today, and he talked about the situation as far as you know, after the fact. He didn't talk about really what led to him. He didn't give details as far as what led to it and getting to that situation.

He talked about everything after that, and the only thing he brought up when it comes to I guess how they got there was just how he described it was just a big misunderstanding. Is that what he said? Yeah, I mean I think this is let me pay the last part of this clip real quick. Got into a chaotic situation this morning. That's really all it was. Chaotic situation this morning. That was all that it was. So you know, you see all the t shirts of his mugshot free Scotty, Free

Scheffler. The internet seems to mostly be rallying for him, like free him. He the city needs to have him come back. Like the automatic reaction for so many was that the cops got it wrong. How could they do this? We have to do right by scot By Scotty Scheffler, have him do writers up for Derby one fifty one, you know, like apologize to him, name a street after him or not. Like I guess, I can't say I'm surprised to see that it plays out that way, because it

is just a crazy thing to think that. Okay, wait a second. This situation led to him being charged with a second degree felony and taken to jail because it just I have a hard time thinking that it needed to play out the way that it did. So therefore, you know, I guess others believe that, and they just assumed that the cops had to do something wrong, and I'm just you know, maybe they did. Maybe you know, it could have been de escalated and it didn't need to go there.

But he's not acting like that's what happened. He's not acting as if anybody did anything wrong, which maybe is just him being professional and not saying anything that's going to potentially, you know, make matters worse for him. But it also interesting more curious John. I know, the officer's probably not going to say anything, as you mentioned earlier, but it would be interesting to see what Scheffler's reaction would be if the officer comes out on the offensive like

something did happen? Yeah, I mean, or the officer, you know, I'm sure he's going to talk to his superior and he'll just claim, look, this is what, this is what happened, and that's that. There is no I didn't even hesitate to do what I'm supposed to do as a law enforcement officer and arrest someone who committed a crime directly in front of me that I was involved in. Like that may just be what it comes

down to. And if that's the response, and what Scheffler's saying publicly is how his lawyer is going to kind of proceed with it, then this may just kind of completely just die down. But I don't know, like, is he gonna is he going to plead guilty to this felony charge and just say, look, yeah, it was, as he said, a hectic situation and that's what it led to. So you know, I'm gonna take

accountability. I mean, it's just I very bizarre, all right. So the text line this is the Ellen and Federal Credit Union text line five two six five three zero seven ninet. If you guys want to text in. This person says, if Scheffler truly feels the way that he has conveyed himself in the press conference, why would the PGA be mad at Louisville or LMPD. I don't know. Nobody said that. I mean, they haven't come out and said that they are. But yeah, that was like most of

what I saw initially. Well, way to go, LMPD. You ruin any chance of Louisville ever being able to host a PGA event again, and maybe you know, this is far from ideal for the PGA, for anybody involved, but it sounds like, you know, getting them to come back here was going to be a really long shot anyway. But yeah, again, this situation can't help them. And as someone who again not a golf guy, the PGA can't enjoy the fact that the only thing being talked about

in this humongous event, the PGA freaking Championship, is this story. Right Like, I'm sure those who are betting on the event and are big golf fans or even casual golf fans that just you know, or they are watching it, they're keeping up with, you know, the leaderboard and whatnot. But nationally, when you talk about the PGA Championship right now, as far as you know, news items updates, it's about Scotti Scheffler getting arrested.

Because again, just saying it out loud doesn't seem like it could be possible, but it did. It in fact happened. All right, let's do this. Let's go ahead and get our top of the hour break out of the way. We'll come back finish strong. Here my last hour of the week before I'm out of here for a week, looking forward to a nice

little getaway. So we'll reset some things, open up the phone lines, let you guys react, and there are some other things I want to get to that you know or what I would classify some things you would typically hear on this show. CBS Sports has ranked. They've unveiled their annual top twenty five rankings of college football coaches. We'll tell you where the local coaches came

in. And also, the NFL released their schedules earlier this week. We know that it's just a reminder of how much the NFL moves the needle unlike any other sport in America. But what I love is how creative the content team, the social media team for these NFL teams. I mean, like the creativity that goes into how you release your schedule on social media. I'm a fan of that stuff, man. So we'll finish strong here five o'clock hour next right here on Sports Talk seven ninety mm hmm
