It's time for coffee and company. Fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day, now here's Nick Coffee. The FOMO has increased in the last couple of hours just because I'm and that's all I'm seeing when I go to social media, the internet. I mean all the local outlets here in town covering the PGA Championship at Valhalla. I'm looking at the photo gallery from WDRB, pictures of Tiger Woods, Brooks, Koepka, and it's awesome for Louisville to
have this event. And there's celebrities in town, not just you know, the famous golfers. But obviously I mentioned this earlier. I mean ESPN's doing a lot of their live stuff here this week. Scott ben Pelt last night was hanging out of Jeff Ruby's and I just when you have events like this in Louisville, in our city, and it brings more attention, more spotlight, it's a good thing for everybody. I just wish that I could snap
my fingers and really care about the event in golf. I just it's it's you know, I don't know anything about baseball, and I don't have any regrets about that. Don't care. The only thing that may make me have to learn some things about baseball is when my son gets older, if he keeps playing and he wants to play, like I'll have to know enough to be dangerous. But you know, I don't have any like I'm not. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not being a diehard baseball
fan. With golf, I've always felt like that, and I've taken this step to now at least, you know, play a few times a year. But as far as like getting into it in knowing who's great and knowing I mean, I mean I really did. I mean I know what the Masters is in the PGA Championship, like I know we've had it at Valhalla before, they've had events here. But like you know, I am very
very ignorant to the golf world, like who's good who's not? I mean, I can name golfers, you can tell me names, and I can probably like pick them out of a lineup, but it is it is the one. I mean, I have many insecurities as a human being. We don't have time to get into that today, Not that you'd care, but one of one of my insecurities in this world that I live in with being a radio host, I don't know anything about golf, do you at all? I mean, were you exposed to golf? Like do you have family
that play when you were growing up? John, Yeah, and in an elementary school actually was a part of It wasn't like a team. It was kind of like a I guess, like a recreational golf club with my elementary school for fourth and fifth grade. I was terrible and I never really played it since. So my dad used to play before I was born and before I guess I was old enough to like remember, and he's played every now and then since then. In fact, the last time I played actually know
what in the last time. But last year when I went to Jekyl Island for our vacation with my father, we played golf together. It was really cool. And he's actually pretty good. But he is, you know, he's a little impatient, not like you know, to where he's a mat like he just you know, he doesn't sit still a whole lot. My
dad's always moving around. And now that I know how long it takes to finish a round of golf, like I know what, my dad is not a golf but he you know, in fact, when we played, we did nine holes instead of eighteen because just being out there for eighteen holes would be a long, long, long day. But hopefully everybody who is a big golf fan or maybe you're just like a medium golf fan and you're out enjoying it, you know, I'm happy for you because it's one of the
bigger events you'll see in the sport. And I feel like, again from what I understand, I won't claim to have any direct information, but like this isn't the Derby obviously, but I feel like when we host this when the PGA Championship is in Louisville, like we usually do our thing, if
you know what I'm saying. I can't take any credit for that. Again, I'm an outsider, but the course itself, and you know, when you think about having like when you have Derby every year at Churchill Downs, Churchill Downs is the venue, right when you have the PGA Championship at Valhalla, Valhalla is the venue. When you have the Final Four at Lucas Oil
Stadium, that's the venue. But the themselves are also a big part of like what would make I mean, the Derby's gonna always be here, but would make the n SAA decide to have their event there or to make the PGA to side. So you know, the more events like that you can have, I mean, it's it's beneficial for your city in every way. So hopefully you guys have have fun this week and you know, go go golfers. You know, is there any other like hope they hit it straight.
We'll just like listening to John Daly's album and you know, and that'll be like that'll just listen to John Daily, by the way, who is a singer, and that'll let us, you know, at least live in this world that we're like, yeah, we're golf guys. We listen to John Daily sing. All right, it's coffee and company. We are feeled about Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciate you hanging out with us here on a Monday afternoon. Hopefully you had yourselves a good weekend, a
good Mother's day. I know I certainly did. And this is my last week before I go on vacation. I'm going to be on the beach next week in Treasure Island, Florida, and I'm looking forward to that. Oh, this is the spontaneous vacation. This is the spontaneous vacation. And again I can't wait. Super excited. So because I'm gonna be on the beach, I've been really, really, you know, putting in the work in
the gym. In fact, I've like I ran five miles today. And the reason you've seen me sitting for this entire show, John and not standing is because I've probably got an issue. I mean, I've got issues, trust me. But like I'm so self. I'm so competitive with myself. Like I'll be running and if I start to like cramp up in my calf, instead of like, hey, I should slow down and maybe try to walk it off or maybe try to rub rub my leg, drink water,
hydrate, like that's what a normal human being would do. I'm somebody that's like, oh yeah, cause you're a lazy piece of crap. That's why you're cramping up, because you're not hydrated. Because you're a fat ass. You're a bum. That's what I'm telling myself in my head when I'm running.
So instead of like slowing down to like be safe, I just like keep going, like Nope, now you're gonna have to Now you're gonna have to sit in this pain, you lazy piece of garbage, and it's you know, I end up finishing, but I end up paying for it later because now I can't walk. So I'm the competitiveness there. Yeah, it's it's there, it's there. It's I don't think it'll ever not be there.
But yeah, I found myself just I mean, I've as if you can't tell, I've been lifting a lot of weights but also doing a lot of running just to try to, you know, get rid of the beer belly. So I'm not as fat on the beach. I want to look like a beached whale out there. But there was a reason I'm bringing that up because I don't know you guys care about my gym routine. But I find some of the best shows I've ever really gotten into on Netflix, I
mean, any of the streaming platforms. I start watching while running, and people still, do you think that's weird? I was about ready to say I don't get how anybody can focus on watching a show while they're running on a treadmill. Everybody tells me that, So, like, I know,
I'm weird. I knew that long ago, but it's it's it helps me not think about the fact that I'm running and I could, like I remember years ago I watched I think I watched like the first three seasons of Breaking Bad, mostly on the treadmill, and sometimes I'll you know, I'm not running the whole time, so you know, there's walking up hill or you know, walking in you know, in incline and all that. But I
ended up watching I think it was at the end of last week. In two days, two trips to the gym, I finished this show on Netflix I'd never even heard of, and it was wild. It's called Baby Reindeer and it's about a it's based on a true story and it's about a stalker, and it is if you're looking for a show to binge, you can get through it pretty quickly because the episodes, I believe are not even thirty minutes, and I think it only has six or seven episodes. But it
was really really well done. So if you're looking for something to watch and you enjoy binging, you know shows, that's one I would recommend. And then I just started another show yesterday that I'd never heard of, and I'm rolling through it, and that is It's got Jeff Daniels in it. I didn't never again, I'd never even heard of it, so now I don't even know the name of it, but yeah, it's it's called A Man in Full and I got through a few episodes of that earlier today and it's
really really good. I used to talk about like streaming shows and whatnot every now and then, because it is, you know, regardless of your interest as a sports fan, I'm sure a lot of you try to find something you can watch rather it be you know, movies, TV shows, that kind of stuff, And that's how a lot of us consume content now, right, Like, if you're getting into a show, you're really you know, you're bingeance, or maybe you're not even binging it, you're just watching
it over time, you're probably doing it on a streaming network, right. I mean, there are still some shows out there that like are on networks and clearly people watch them, but I don't. And really though a lot of those network shows, which I guess you can call me lame, I know you had before. I do watch some network shows. They do put
those on the streaming services as well. What still has networks, Like show you watched on like Curly Animal Control, which is it's a sitcom, and I know you hate modern sy comms as well, but it's pretty funny. It's just not my not my style. But it's on it's on Fox, and season two just ended last week. But like there's a show, and this show is not new, in fact, I think it's ended. But like Community, actually both the lead actor in Animal Control is the same lead
actor in Community, Joel but Kale like Parks and Rec. Yeah, like, did you like that show? I like The Office. I never watched, so I never watched Parks and Rec. But like what I'm getting at is like it's just not my cup of tea those kinds of shows. But like clearly they're super popular and millions of people watch them, so like it's not like I can claim they suck. It's just everybody, you know, they've got their own preferences. Like I watch a lot of prison shows.
That's popular though. Crime yeah, oh, true crime. I'm telling you, true crime is the most popular genre of content on the planet and it has been for years now. And I mean true crime, podcast, true crime, you know, right, blogging, writing, obviously, documentaries, TV shows, I mean true crime is and I and I'm you know, I love it. I feel like my my love for prison shows has more
so just been to keep me scared straight. Right. Yeah, like I knew at an early age, I probably need to not be a criminal, because me in prison would probably not be a good thing for me. So what's your prison show? Oh? Locked Up? It it? It's it was a I mean it was more of like an actual I mean it was it was more like documentary TV rather than like reality TV. But like it was. I mean they showed you the inmates, and I mean it was you know, I don't know why it fascinated me, but it did.
And they don't I don't think they make it anymore. But yeah that I could. I could binge watch that for days and again it keeps me, you know, very well aware that I need to be on the right side of the law. It's my best interest to not be someone who would have to potentially go, uh to prison. There's this new one on Netflix I started watching that's like a it's almost kind of like the Sixty Days in that they did around here, where they would like have a I don't know how
much I be I mean, I'm not saying those are fake. I mean I wouldn't sign up to do it thinking I'm, you know, gonna be at the country club when the cameras aren't rolling. But there's a new Netflix show that they're that that that I watched the first couple of episodes, but it just didn't seem like real. It didn't seem real to me. Where
they at this this is a jail, not a prison. They let the inmates, like instead of like having them confined to certain areas, having them locked down for a certain amount of hours a day, they just let them all throughout the entire just kind of mingle this congregation. Yeah, and they they acted like if they gave them that level of freedom, they would appreciate it so much that they would be on the up and up and not want to lose that ability to kind of do whatever. But I don't know,
it just it, you know. Yeah, And there are but like in some of it's like wait a second, like there's no way, like you
let me. This is this is a this is a risk. This is like something that like you can't be stupid enough to like let something terrible happen and then be like, well, yeah, that's why they're in prison and jail and need to be you know, not saying everybody needs to be locked down for twenty three hours a day, but you know, there's a reason you have to have some pretty strict rules in a place like a jail or a prison. But anyways, Great ausib Or, I think he should be
thrown in prison for not coming to Louisville. He chose Washington, and look, I'm bummed. I wanted to see him at Louisville, but I could just feel that he was going to be following Danny Sprinkle to Washington. And that's the news we got earlier today. The report is that he's going to get two million dollars in NIL, which according to ESPN, will make him the highest paid college basketball player next season through NIL. Maybe that changes again.
I think there's players still available that are better than him that I think could maybe get more money. But it sounds like Washington, and we'll see, because all it takes is one school, and if one school's that desperate and they have money, they might pay it. Right, all it takes
is one school to give you what you're asking. And it sounds like Great Osibor got two million from Washington allegedly, and nobody was going to come close to doing that, and I think they feel fine about not doing that, right, Like, I don't think this wasn't a bidding war. In fact, Louisville was still I think, increasing their price last week according to Trili Donovan. But it sounds like it was probably just to get Washington to come
over the top and give him the amount of money that he wanted. I don't necessarily agree with this, but you know those that cover college basketball in IL, and again this guy here that I tagged him on Twitter because I was mentioning this. I was just reacting to the Osi war news and I cited him because this is you know, it's a quote from him that was
in an article I read at twenty four seven Sports. But the average Power five college basketball INIL budget per program next year is one point five million. So to see that he would get two million from one school, like it just doesn't I mean, I can't prove that Washington won't pay it, but I understand why nobody else would even consider it. And Louisville, the thought of him paying one guy two million dollars when they're paying their coach like two
point three, like that just doesn't like you wouldn't do that. So for context, this is from the guy that I reference was Jason Belzer. That was his stat that he mentioned as far. That was his quote that I shared about the one point five million being the average budget for next season.
So I threw it out there that he could reset the market here because there are players that are better than him that feel like, if he's getting two million, why am I getting five hundred thousand, Why am I not getting three million? Because I'm better? And his prediction, Jason Belzers, was that this won't reset the market at all. It's because everybody's just going to be well aware that Washington just overpaid and like that's why he got that money.
The thing it reminded me a little bit of when Lamar Jackson is going through his contract negotiation with the Ravens. He wanted what Deshaun Watson got from the Browns, but it became clear to everybody within the NFL. And I don't say that as like I've got sources with the end, but it was just quite obvious that what the Browns gave Deshaun Watson nobody else was going to give anybody Like they're just the dumbass Browns that are on the hook for an
insanely stupid contract that nobody else would do. But Lamar knew, Hey, this guy's making more than me or making this. I need at least that. And that just wasn't going to happen. And it wasn't the Raven's fault. It wasn't other team's faults. It was because the Browns just did something that nobody else would do. It sounds like and again this I don't want to sound like sour grapes, but that's that's the reporting from the NIL world
that that's that's what happened here. And this is Jason Belzer. Gentlemen, you know, this is somebody that you know, he's kind of a pioneer in the NIL world. You know, he was the he's the founder of the of a company that operates collectives for several high majors. So this, you know, this is his space. This is somebody that I think would
have some legitimate info and knowledge on how this stuff works. All right, So now that Great Osibor is off the board, Louisville, I don't want to say they're going back to the drawing board, because I don't think that they're starting over. But now they can probably turn up the heat a little bit on how they pursue other guys they've already been talking to, right like Coleman Hawkins. No no clue what the level of interest is there for him
in Louisville, but he's available in the portal. He's likely not going to stay in the NBA Draft, And now that Louisville doesn't have the money, they're not on the hook for any money for Osibor. They could they could throw it, throw a big offer at him. Cason Pryor, you know, that's a young man from South Florida who have always wanted to see Louisville
land. Sounds like Arkansas has been really emerging as the likely spot for him, and maybe now Louisville can can come at him a little bit differently with more to offer, because again they're not they're not pursuing Ausibor anymore. So
there's still plenty of guys available and Louisville is involved. I don't know if i'd say that they're the leaders with any of these guys, which you know, if you're worried, I get it, But I'm not to the point where I'm thinking they're gonna have Like, this team's gonna stink because they don't
have any big guys. They need to get them. And you know, there is one guy visiting whose name I wouldn't probably be able to say it even if I if I had it in front of me, because you know, it's it's a little bit difficult to pronounce at least from what I've from what I've gathered. But this guy, I mean, this will this tells
you the market, right. So there's a guy that's transferring from Georgia named Frank and slim Iby probably not saying that right, but he played at Syracuse for a couple of years, played at Georgia for a couple of years. You know, last year he averaged in fact, in his career, he averaged two point six points, two point one rebounds, and shot sixty two percent from the field. Well, he's he's down to Louisville, Georgia Tech, NC State in Wisconsin. You know, Louisville, of course, is
coming off two disastrous seasons. Georgia Tech, they've been bad for a while. NC State went to the Final four. Wisconsin is always a pretty good team. So like the fact that he's commanding interest from those schools and they're pursuing him, trying to get him. That tells you that, hey, if you're a big guy and you're holding out, like there's value right the
supply. It's a supply and demand situation. So like if they add that guy, I mean that to me is just a body like we I don't want to and hope we would never realize here we go, let's throw this guy at the five, which if he's your backup, then I think you're gonnad up playing James Scott a lot of minutes, which may not be an issue because I think he's gonna be good. But for those that have asked
me, all right, when will you get worried? Like when will you like when will you think, Okay, man, this team is is gonna be decent, but man, they have no guards. It would probably be if you get down to like the end of the month of May and there's nobody left. I mean that like for example, like if we get to the point where the pivot is to hmm, maybe there's a foreigner like big Z last year for Kentucky that just decides he wants to come play in college
because they're throwing out money. If that's what you end up like hoping happens because everybody else is gone, then that would be it'd be an issue. But when Pat Kelsey doesn't get players and it's because another school paid more money, I mean, without me having any real knowledge of what like Louisville's offer is to these guys, it's hard for me to like be super critical.
But also, like the honeymoon is still going on. You know, he really got fans excited from day one, and since he's been hired, he's done a good job of filling out the roster. Other than of course, you know, the elephant in the room. They don't have big guys. But I just don't feel like anybody thinks about and I get it, Like it's Louisville. You don't want to lower expectations and like just be better than Kenny Payne. But Pat Kelsey took over a program that like you know,
hasn't won in a while. So like the brand of Louisville right now, you know, it's not as attractive as it once was. I'm not act I'm not going to do the whole thing. Well, he inherited a mess. I mean, he really did inherit a he inherited two years of just disastrous, you know, disasters basketball. But Louis's going to need to have some success before they really get to just be attractive to schools because they're Louisville.
Because it's been a while. Now. With that said, maybe that like won't even matter down the line, because again, it's all about money. And again, if I was in this, if I was in this position and I knew, hey, my best chance to make really good money is going to be in college through nil because I'm not going to be a
pro in the NBA. I mean, I wouldn't say that I know for sure I would go to the school with the most money, but it would absolutely be a huge factor because again, this is money that can change your life. And if you've already been in college like four years, you've probably already got a degree. Like it, it's truly about money. And I don't hear that and think, oh, it's it's ruined, but some people do. And everybody's got their preferences right right, quick break, we'll come
back on the other side. Keep this thing rolling along. It's coffee and Company. Philbout Thornton's right here, on Sports Talk seven ninety All right, we got about thirty minutes left here on a Monday afternoon, Coffee and company by Thornton's. Make sure you sign up to become a member of the Thornton's Freshman Wards program if you haven't already. You'll be able to take advantage of
all the perks that come with it. You'll save money at the gas pump, and I imagine if you remember, it's going to incentivize you to stop in there rather than anywhere else. I don't know why you would go anywhere else, but then you'll you'll realize all the great food options they have and all the friendly associates that work there. So again, we are proudly feeled
by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety right. Five' two if I have seven seventy nine hundred is the number if you want to give us a call, we'll go to the phone lines now and welcome in, David. David, what's happening? Fantastic? Nick? How are you my man? Not too bad? Brother? Well, I tell you it's I know I'm gonna be completely against the grain with this call, and I feel like Billy
goats gruff but I am so against anil now going forward. It just I just want to take Louisville off the front of the jersey because you know what, what is a college degree worth absolutely nothing? The reason I say this is, I mean, you know what, what is a four Well, but then again, these kids don't take the four year ride anymore. You can bounce from school to school every year. It's not like they're going from the school of business to the school of pharmacology. It's the school of basketball.
These kids, when their time ends playing collegiate ball, most of them can go overseas and even though they have to leave our country to do it, they can make a ton of money. They can be treated like rock stars, live lavish lifestyles. I just want to see an end to this. You know, they should be compensated in some way, but this this, it has nothing to do with this OSI war getting two million dollars, which is just an atrocity. It just it's just my personal opinions. Who
like who, who's at fault? Though, like who, Like you know, well, boy, then I don't know if anybody's because because if you're one of the players though, Like I mean, I just think it's unrealistic and just I mean it's one thing to it's one thing to you know, I mean the system itself is insane. How it's just I mean, this
is it's a free for all and there's no stability. I mean, NSTAA seems like one of those organizations David that like if we find out tomorrow there just don't exist anymore, Like it wouldn't be shocked because they just seem as they seem pointless. But like if you're a college player and you know that this is now something you could do, it's I just think it's unrealistic to expect them to not factor in who can pay them money, who can pay
them the most money. I mean, I think there are guys that do, in fact go to schools that probably didn't offer the most, but it's still going to be a big component. And you know, I don't blame them. I guess maybe I took the wrong path instead of partying, I should have brushed up on my jumper and my you know, behind the back passing. So anyway, brother, love to show you guys doing job and thank you appreciate it appreciated David, Yeah, like it's it's far from you
know, it's the right way to describe it. The whole doctoring up this name, image and likeness and acting as if people are going to get a return on investment, for giving a player a certain amount of money to go. I mean, it's it's all a charade. But I just think at the end of the day, it's the nsaa's fault for not implementing something sooner
to where these athletes can make something. But because they didn't and they were so stubborn, it got to the point where Congress stepped in and said, look, you can't tell them they can't make money, and that's why we're here. In fact, Charlie Baker is at the ACC meetings today and was asked about, you know, the obvious, which is this potential settlement with this anti trust lawsuit. And I'm reading from Nicole Arbox Twitter here as far
as some of the quotes, and there's not a whole lot. I mean, to me, this seems like a very empty statement. But he did talk about a settlement how it does create predictability and stability for schools, when when they say settlement, it's it's that means that the schools would in fact be on the hook for being the one, you know that have to make
these student athletes employees. But Yes, says it also creates a tremendous opportunity for student athets, especially with the schools that are the most heavily resourced. It creates framework that makes it possible to have a different kind of conversation with Congress. So, look, there's gonna be some schools that that won't have the money to pay employee, like to pay the players as employees, and if they do, it won't be a whole lot. Then there'll be some
schools that clearly have a lot more money than others. There'll be some schools that will cut sports to make sure they have the money to pay, and they'll they won't say that, they'll act like, well, hey, now we have to pay players. This is just what we have to do. When they'll probably get rid of some sports that don't make the many money and they just cost a lot of money. So I do think in a couple
of years this is going to be a lot different. But as far as what it looks like, your guess is as good as mine, And it does sound like Charlie Baker, although he inherited a you know, a position that was run by somebody who I'm not quite sure what purpose he served,
and that's Mark Emertt. But it does sound like there's a lot more heat coming at Charlie Baker now because you know he's I guess he had to really make a decision on what they're going to do as far as the because the deadline's coming up for when they have to either accept or reject a settlement, and really what the what the fallout is from that, I don't really know, but I do feel like right now, the way it is it being a complete free for all with money and with transfers, that's going to end.
I just don't know exactly when, probably sooner rather than later. But what it looks like after that, nobody knows. And that is kind of a scary thing, to be honest with you. All Right, So, speaking of an eyel well, the college basketball Nil driven Tournament was announced I guess last week and Ember the week before where in Las Vegas they're going to have an mt multi team event that will Yeah, I mean it's good.
It's it's it's called the Players Era Festival. It's gonna include eight teams in twenty twenty four this upcoming season, and then in twenty twenty five, it's expected to double the sixteen teams. As far as which schools are playing in it, Alabama, Creighton, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State, and Texas A and M. It's a one of a kind revolutionary regular season event in Vegas, And I'm trying to see you know how exactly it's going to Yeah, so it says it's gonna be it's going
to include one million dollar NIL payouts for eight participating schools player. It says, what's more, players involved will also have future earning opportunities through long term and ile contracts. So, I mean, are they just is this just an event where you bring your team and your players get paid? Like? Is it a like do you play? Like? Do you you can't make it to where if you win the tournament you get paid more money? Right?
Like that's still technically not allowed, but yeah, why wouldn't you want to do this? Right? Like, if you can get invited to this and be a part of it, you can sell it to recruits and players. Hey, not only do you have NIL through our collective or somebody else privately, We're going to go to this event and our team of you know, thirteen scholarship players are going to split a million dollars. So seems unheard of, but again it is. It's never happened before. But that's the
world we're in now. But John mentioned something that I wasn't aware of. Creighton but being a part of this has backed out of the of the Battle of for Atlantis, which Louisville, Indiana. Who else is in it? Events? It's a local of West Virginia, Davidson. Kind of a random one right there. I wonder who's gonna there. Always one of those schools, but I'm curious who's gonna jump Like last year, I think it was Iowa, Northern Iowa that way. Yeah, So I'm not sure who will
jump in, but hopefully another big East school. Yeah, that'll be uh, bring in Saint John's that their schedule allows it. I have no clue what Louisville, you know, will look like at that time, but I mean we have a good idea of the core of the roster. I mean they don't have it's not like they got nine scholarships left. They have nine players, so technically they have four spots available, So I just can't wait
for that event. Not to say Louisville's gonna win it or anything like that, but it's been so long since Louisville has had a game, Like it's been years since they've had a matchup where you know, there's a lot of people watching and they're not embarrassing, like honestly, like it's been years.
I mean, the last time they had any real notoriety in a game where it felt like they had some momentum was in twenty twenty, and it's we're coming up on the twenty twenty four to twenty five season, So I don't think they're gonna have a whole lot of momentum to where people are talking about him as one of the sleepers for the Final four whenever they are in in
the Bahamas for this event. But man, those MTE events, Maui Atlantis, you know, yeah, two K Classic, the ones that are like the Nike one, Yeah, now yeah, they I mean they've got I mean, heck, the Champions Classic even, like that's right, those events you can you can really you pull off an upset against somebody, it can really like Joan Howard, like he kind of crashed and burned, right, But if you remember, it was in his first year, they went down
unranked and beat they won the Battle for Atlantis, and that was when they came to Louisville and they were the number one team in the country and louisvill knocked him off, or I think Louislle was the number one team in the country. Michigan was coming in with all that momentum in Louisville won and you know that that gave that that that I wouldn't say put them on the map, but like, if you do get some breaks to go your way and you find a way to beat some good teams down there, like that could
be I mean, and that's like, that's doable. It's just gosh, the last few years has just been so far from believable like that it would be realistic, you know what I mean. And those are big weeks for your kin pom and all that. Oh yeah, no doubt, no, I have to do well in those games. Yeah, and that's you know, that's to be honest, and we're I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but you know, for for Louisville, you know, the acc let's be real. In recent years has not been that good of a league.
And I know they make tournament runs and all that, but like I'm not somebody that actually thinks that that means. Okay, yeah, the fact that you know, North Carolina lost to Georgia Tech and you know Boston College and the same, like that's not a good look for that doesn't like the benefit of the doubt of your league, in my opinion, is like when we just beat up on each other and you can disclaim, well, what are
you gonna do we play in this league? Like if you suck in the non conference and you you lose to a bunch of bums, like I just don't think you deserve that benefit of the doubt. That the reason everybody's got similar records is because man, everybody's just so good. It's so tough to win. But then when you go to the tournament and you do well,
like that also can help you. But you know, I think one team making a big deep run like at times makes people oh, ok that clearly that like North Carolina State they nearly lost to Louisville in the ACC tournament and they made the final four, Like that's cool, But that doesn't mean that the ACC was like, let's just throw the records out what Carolina did here. I mean, that's that's proof that this is a great league. I mean it's evil run. I mean, I can't. I guess the reason
I pick at it all the time is because I can't relate. I've never been able to get into the conference like Homer stuff. I know, it's great for you to be in a league that's good, that's respected, and the better your league is, the better off you are. But because Louisville in my lifetime has been in so many different leagues, like, I don't give a damn about the ACC. Again, it's in Louisville's best interest for the league to do well and be good. But like I, you know,
I'm not. I don't you know, I don't. I don't. I can't relate. All right, we do need to get to a quick break. We'll come back here on the other side, try to finish strong here on a month day. Again, it's coffee and company fuel by Thornton's right here on Sports Talk seven ninety that's right, wrapping it up here on a Monday afternoon, Coffee and company fueled by Thornton's. Look, if you are putting your house on the market, or maybe you're just looking to buy
a home you don't have one, you've been renting. I don't know, maybe you're moving out of mom's house. When it comes to that process buying or selling a home, maybe it's both. Keep Eatling and Eatling in mind. In fact, don't just keep them in mind. That's who you need to turn to because they not only can help you throughout the process, making it as smooth as possible, but they're also going to help you keep a lot of your hard earned money right in your pocket. They'll list your home
for just one percent, which again that's not something you'll find elsewhere. They have a one percent buyer's rebate as well. These are things that are done to not only I mean that has nothing to do with as far as just the great service they'll provide, which again I think making this whole process as effortless as possible and you're in that's a great value. But also again keeping your hard earned dollars in your pocket to help you throughout this process of moving.
That goes a long way. And it's Edland and Eland. You can check him out online at Eland dot com. I give him a call five two five nine nine at twenty eight hundred. All right, So a lot of talk about the basketball roster in recent weeks, but Louisville football, they will have a big visitor, you know, in more ways than one coming up this week. So Curtis Perry is an Alabama defensive lineman who will be
visiting this week. He is a former four star recruit signed with Bama in twenty twenty two, chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Clemson in Texas and red shirted as a freshman last year. Was just a guy that you know, provided depth, did not get a whole lot of action, but certainly a talented player, I would assume, or he wouldn't have the credentials that he has six to twitter and sixty five pounds. So hopefully they can make that addition. Obviously, I think the D line actually is in pretty good
shape. To be honest with you, you always want to have a lot of depth. But you know, Jermaine Lolay, I know he transferred to Oklahoma and then flipped it to Texas, and that kind of move makes it look like this guy's, you know, a star, but he couldn't never stay healthy at Louisville, and he couldn't beat out the guys like Destel that that you know have been here for a while. And I think not to say that Louisville and Jeff Brohm are out here trying to bring in dudes to
to to move those guys out of the first string spot. But you want to have as much depth as you can, have a competitive as can be at each at every position, and each time guys transfer in to kind of take those spots, that just doesn't work out for him. So you know, you can never have too much depth. And again, if this guy can play for Nick saban and in Alabama, I think he could play for Louisville. So hopefully they can they can make that addition, all right.
Not sure if this is like news anybody around here cares about, but Iowa women's basketball coach has retired. No, so she's moving on after Caitlyn Clark has moved on. I forget her name, but she was there forever and obviously had a great run and she has stepped down. So her name is Lisa Blotter Blooter sure, I'm not saying I think it's Blooter, Yeah, Bluter. And her assistant is going to be replacing her Jan Jensen, So
I'm not sure if that was something. I mean, I'm sure Iowa knew that was in the works, but I feel like that was kind of a surprising, a surprising piece of news. Have you watched much of the playoffs outside of, you know, briefly joining me on the Knicks or not the Knicks, but the Pacers side, because obviously we don't like the Knicks. The one thing I watched a little bit of Game three of Pacers Knicks last Friday, and it was probably I guess, the second half of the game.
And I'll tell you what, as somebody who's kind of a passive Pacers fan, it was kind of fun to just kind of be a part of the experience and see them pull that game out and end up winning Game four on sundaysho Oh, they killed him. I mean, they absolutely demolished them. And it's the kind of win that makes you realize, like, hey, like go get one in New York because you should have had certainly had game two. You let it. It's your fault, you let it slip
away. But I didn't know what was going to happen because when they came back from that from that when they were down two to zero and Carlisle was crying about all the calls, and there were some terrible calls, Like I did, I thought they might just completely cave, and they almost did. It took that insane three from Nemhart at the end of the game to uh no, is it confused? Yeah, and I mean just seemingly ten feet behind the line. You know, without that shot, you don't win.
And then you know, Brunson does his typical brunts and flop and stuff, acting like I mean, he walked off the full acting like he was fouled after the game to the refs, which is just you know, that's what the NBA has now, a lot of floppers. But anyway for them to dominate yesterday. Now they're heading to New York. I mean, I don't know they're gonna win the series, but man, I'm hoping they do. It's been fun to really get into the Pacers and the playoffs for the first
time in a long time. All Right, you guys, have a good night. We're back at it tomorrow right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety
