It's time for coffee and company fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day Now here's Nick coffee. All right, let's get it started. The five o'clock hour here on a Wednesday afternoon coffee and company fueled by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety one. More hour for me and then I'm out of here for a long derby weekend. But we're gonna finish strong here and keep
this thing rolling along. We're gonna talk to Jeff Greer in just a second, but before we do that, just an update for those of you that maybe are just now ending your workday and wanting to be caught up on the latest with the transfer portal. Kentucky has added a couple of players today. Kobe Brea, the transfer from Dayton, did pick Kentucky following his visit. And also a guy that I didn't even know was considering Kentucky has committed,
and that's Kerr Crisa. Chrisa from Arizona and West Virginia, most recently played at West Virginia. But he's a point guard, good point guard too, you know, not a guy that I would you know, he's not a guy that I think completely changes your expectations. But he's a he's a good player for sure, and there's no doubt that Kentucky has completely changed their situation. The last week, I knew Mark Pope was in on some players,
but a week ago, I think they only had one. I think it was just to Mari Amuri Williams. And now they've added you know, probably five or six ince then, so on the Louisville side, they've already got eight players. I don't want to say things have slowed down to like insinuate that you know, they're no longer going after guys. But right now as we speak, Great Osibor the Utah State transfer, he is on campan I
say on campus. He may I'll be on campus maybe a Churchill Downs, I don't know, but he's His visit to Louisville is going on as we speak and will go on. I believe until Friday. I could be wrong. Maybe it's tomorrow that it ends. But he's no longer going to consider
Kentucky because of their situation. And we know he's going to go to Texas Tech and take a visit there, and he will go to Washington to visit his former coach Danny Sprinkle, who I just feel like the most obvious choice for him would be to follow Danny Sprinkle, just like he followed him from Montana State to wash to Utah State. But he is going through visits and I don't know, maybe Louisville can really sell him on the role for him
here in Pat Kelsey's offense. And it doesn't get any better than having a big time visitor who I believe is the only recruit visiting during derby week, Like this is what you want? So I don't want to put pressure on Pat Kelsey because again I think it would if the kid ends up following Danny Sprinkle once again, I mean, I don't really know if that's anything you could have changed. And what I don't know is and maybe Jeff Geer knows this, He's going to join us in just a second. But like,
are these guys getting paid for visits? Apparently high school kids, some of them are getting paid just to take a visit. Transfers have more leverage than high school kids because they've proven what they can do. I mean, these agencies, and I believe OSABOR is represented by a real agency, not you know, one of these twenty three year olds who got a sports management degree and you know, hit up players on Twitter DMS and said they want to
represent him through NIL. He has a real agent, so maybe they are getting paid for visits. I don't know, but either way that would be a massive addition. But by all accounts, he's going to take every visit and then make a decision. So even if his visit goes really well, we'll probably have to wait and figure out if it was good enough for him to pull the trigger and hopefully pick Louisville. All right, let's bring him in. He's mister Jeff Greer. Jeff, how are we doing, sir?
I'm wonderful. Nick. How are you, buddy? I'm doing well. You are a transplant and you've made Louisville your home. We've discussed it in recent weeks. What was your first impression of being in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby? Well? I really had not been an in retrospect. This will show you my true personality. I blame everybody else for this other than myself. Nobody coached me up on what Derby was, so really I didn't know, like yeah, like you would think you know at the newspaper.
They've got you, They've got you out at the track every day, and you know you've got to you know, you've got your Oaks and your Derby Day assignments and all that. You would think that some of the veterans at the newspaper would have told the poor guy who had just moved to Louisville, like, Hey, you need to get a nice suit, you need to dress up and all of this stuff. And so I wore and this is actually probably right. You're gonna make fun of me about this and laugh,
but I swear, Nick, I wore a sweater to oaks. Yeah, that doesn't that doesn't fit. They didn't. It just doesn't. It doesn't make sense. No, And it was like eighty degrees out. I mean,
it was just like it was a it was a disaster. So that was my first experience, but I have grown to truly love it now that I know how I'm supposed to act during the two weeks leading up to So I'm somebody who's lived here my whole life, and I know I'm not the only one with his opinion, but you know, it's it's I'm probably I think I'm in the minority. I don't think the city of Louisville is that much exposed to the sport of horse racing. Like a lot of people here,
I think, love everything that comes with Derby. You know, it's a big event. It's it's where the spotlight is on this city more than it is any other day of the year. Uh. And you know, I'm comfortable enough now to just accept that I'm never going to really care that much about the sport, but I love everything that comes with it. And as we get closer to the actual race, I'll pick a horse and I'm certainly going to watch the race itself. But I think that's what you know,
I don't know, have you gotten into horse racing? I know, did you did some Derby coverage during your time, I know when you were with the CJ. But I you know, I feel like a lot of people, you know, are afraid to acknowledge that because it's it's look, it's it's what we It's it's our big event. There's no doubt about it. Like that's what people know Louisville for is having the Kentucky area, but at least one of the main things. But I just I don't think we're
a big horse racing city. As far as just the sport itself, I think that's it's actually actually more in Lexing than to be honest with you, Yeah, no, I agree, And look, I think it's what I like in it too, And I'm sure others have made this comparison many times.
But it's a lot like March madness, where you know, you get to March and you've got all these people picking brackets, and you know, in my office obviously there's a lot of people from different walks of life and not from around here, and I just like, I just look at their brackets and I'm annoyed. I'm just like, you have no idea what you're talking about. You are picking these based on colors or mascots or or you know, reputations of schools that are, you know, twenty years old.
That you've got these thoughts about these programs and it annoys me. And then of course they win the pool. So you know, it's the same with the Derby. And I know that there are a thousand people out there in Louisville, you know, maybe more who are just like really really deeply invested into this and they know, you know, what these different times are and how people run on grass versus dirt and all the I mean, what the
racing surface was like and that kind of stuff. And then there's people like me who are like, oh yeah, I like that horse's name or it's a gray horse. I'm a bit on it. That's just kind of it's the same thing, right, Yeah, And I think my favorite part of Derby, as far as the actual race and the horses, is kind of
learning about the story. Maybe sometimes it's it's a cool story about how it developed the name, or maybe the owner who you know, really kind of a rags to richest situation to where you know, they grinded it out blue collar and really became successful in business and now they own a bunch of horses and those are stories that interest me. But yeah, it's it's it's a
great event. And you know, every and not every city, but most cities probably have one event that like, you know, people know that city for in Derby is is is that for us? And I'm certainly biased, but I feel like we always do it big and you know, do our part to make sure people love it when they're here and they keep coming back. Who's the most random celebrity you've ever seen in town for Derby if there's any, because I've got some good responses so far on the show today.
But if you ever have you run into somebody around Louisville during Derby week and you thought, what the hell is you know, I remember that guy from you know, Seinfeld or something like that. Yeah, yeah, I mean I always go back to Joey Fatoad. Oh yeah, I'm just like, you know, look, the older we get, the more I appreciate the great boy band music of the nineties and early two thousands. I think it's I mean, it's just good pop music, right, everybody good carry out
Thomas. It's not my choice, but it's entertaining. Yeah, and you know I I but yeah, he's he's pretty high up their list. But look, I mean we could probably do this for an hour with It just feels like this event brings out a lot of people, and I would say a very small percentage of them are as exactly, and they're like they fly in the morning of or the night before, and everybody else is You're just kind of like, oh yeah, I remember that guy from like fifteen years
ago. That that's kind of the vibe that I get yeah, and some of these people, you know, they they're their heyday was, you know, decades ago. So they may not be flying in they can't afford it. They're probably driving in. You know, they're they're they're they're they're traveling on a budget because they're probably doing doing okay. But you know it's not it's not like they're still raking in the millions. But I have a I think Joey Fatone is the perfect example of a guy who, at one point,
whenever in sync, was still really really relevant. Uh. He was invited to the Barnstable Party, that of course is the most I think it's the longest standing celebrity derby party, and he's just continued to send an RSVP every year to see if they'll tell him like no, because like he's on this list with you know, Tracy Morgan, Kid Rock, Aaron Rodgers, Jack Harlow, Boys to Men and you know some real notable celebrities, and you see Joey Fatone and it's like, yeah, he took advantage of the
invite he got in nineteen ninety nine and he's been coming ever since. So you know, somebody nicked somebody. Somebody needs to just tell him it's gonna be not just say just do not, do not come to our event. I actually forgot. I got another one for you, Brett b. Lama, Oh, that's a good one. Forget. He was just like randomly walking into the to that big room upstairs where you can where it's got like the streaming of all of the races. I bet he has a presence about
him. Yeah, you could tell it was him right away. He had an army around him. It was It's pretty funny. Yeah, I talked about this earlier in the week. Avery Johnson. I don't know he's ever missed a Derby. I remember as a kid getting the you know, as a kid, I would get the Courier Journal for the Internet, and it is rare. That's why it's perfect. So there was a there was a you know right after I think that Duncan and Robinson and those guys, you
know, and Avery Johnson won with one the title with the Spurs. There was a picture in the sports section of Avery Johnson there like cheering on a horse and I remember thinking like, that's super random. Why is he at the derby? And then my dad was like, well, you know a lot of celebrities and athletes come to the derby. Well, sure enough. My first derby I ever attended, first person I saw that I recognized was Avery Johnson. And then I've asked people this week of the same question and
everybody somebody just tweeted in a picture then with Avery Johnson. So I guess he's he's a regular and he is it. He is he not the perfect level of random, Yes, that is that is exactly who I would think of when when you would think of like a pretty decent athlete, but not like a and I know he's done some TV and he was a coach and
stuff, but like, that is a great example. It honestly is almost like that game that has kind of floated around the Internet in the past couple of months of like, you know, just dudes will sit around, Oh yeah, random athletes and we will. That's almost like the list of people at the parties this week. Yeah, somebody earlier mentioned they saw Matt Geiger in the infield, and I'm like, man, that that hits like,
isn't that perfect? Not only because it's Matt Geiger, a random white dude for the Sixers in the nineties, but he looks like an infield guy. Yes, that's true, that's perfect. So there's a lot of both Racing lou and LUCITYFC. There's a lot of a lot of players that are that
are on the roster that are not from Louisville. Have you gotten much feedback from from you know, those who have experienced Derby for the first time or it would be last year, many years ago, because I would imagine that is one of the attractions of making Louisville your home when you're you're professional soccer players that you know Derby's here, and you know, I imagine you know, these players probably get taken taken care of throughout the week and at the
Derby. Yeah. Well, I know from on the racing side, I sit in on a lot of the recruitment calls with with potential signings, and we we talk a lot about it. I mean, we talk about the city in general, and you know, it's a it's like a PowerPoint presentation I actually put it together, but nice I talk a lot about I talk
a lot about Derby. And you know, one of the funny things that I always try to make sure that I mentioned is, you know, this is such a great food city and I know people here know, and you know, it's one of those things where people from elsewhere in the country they're not going to know. Hey, you know, we've got the third highest number of restaurants per capita. And that was a fact that I was told ten years ago. So I have no clue if it's still true, but
it sounds great on a recruiting call. And you know what I always say is, we've got two weeks out of the year, really one week out of the year when we've got you know, an extra one hundred and fifty two hundred thousand people in the city who want to have nice meals and they want to have a big Derby meal, and those places all get reservations filled up well in advance. Well, those restaurants need other customers the other fifty weeks out of the year, and the rest of us get to reap the
benefits of those great restaurants. And you you know, we could go down the list of all the places that have become well known to Derby goers and they, you know, like jack Fries and places like that, they're opening year round for the rest of us to enjoy. So we always talk about that with our players and and but no, they love they love the Derby.
They love you know, how the city livens up, and it really feels like kind of the perfect wedge event between the start of spring and really kind of getting into true warmer weather, and it's just fun to see them get all dressed up. Last year we had thanks to our wonderful friends at Churchill Downs, we ended up with a suite nice and we were able to get a bunch of players out and staff out and they had so much fun.
So yeah, it's a great, great event, and I know that they thoroughly enjoy being around town this week while everybody's all dressed up and having a good time. Well, last time we talked, I mean this that that ended up being the first time I called my shot when it comes to a soccer match, and I was correct because I told you the Utah Royals they didn't know what they had coming. I mean it was it was going to be a bad day for the Utah Royals and that's exactly what happened,
a five to one victory for racing. And then they follow that up with with the draw in New York and now they're heading to Orlando. I believe on Sunday, how we feeling. I mean, I think that that was I believe wasn't that a record for the amount of goals scored in that game against Utah? I mean, there's a momentum here, right, Yeah it was, Yeah, it was, it was. It was a good old
fashion pulverizing. It was kind of like you know, if you I always every every every comparison I make is to college basketball, and I'm sorry, that's just the way I'm wired. It's just, you know, a team that's expecting to be pretty good. There may be like a like a number twenty top twenty five back into the top twenty five team, but they're expected to be solid the good this year. And that's I feel like where Racing
is. We're expected to be good, We're expected to be a playoff team, and you just needed a game to just absolutely wail on, you know, a small school that comes and plays a guarantee game, and that's exactly what happened. With all due respect to Utah, they're an expansion team. Uh, they're kind of learning their way through the league. Their roster will obviously need to be enhanced through the course of this season and into the offseason.
And we just blasted them. So it was a lot of fun to watch, and it was in front of a record crowd with the with the planes flying over for thunder, and Yeah, feeling really really good about that. And we took that momentum on the road and got a pretty good result in a crazy game against the league's reigning champions this past weekend in New York City. So the vibes are high, and I think we're feeling pretty good
entering the summer. Yeah, with that five to one beat down along with the fireworks and and and you know, jets flying that that that club's gonna have PTSD when they think about Louisville now. And that's the way, that's the way we want it. I know, there's soccer is a classy sport, and you know we're all about sportsmanship, but you know, sometimes you need to give the beat down like they did, and and and clearly it was as you mentioned, it was something needed for the for the club,
and the momentum is is certainly there. All right, Jeff, Before we let you get out of here, I want to ask you this. So Pat Kelsey's hosting right now, Great O's the Utah State Transfer I think it works out perfect to show him Louisville and everything the city offers during Derby week. Uh, but let's say you were tasked. Pat Kelsey picks up the phone, He calls Jeff Brees says, look, uh, give me an itinerary. Let's say you got a full day with great acibor what are you?
What do you squeeze it in? Right? What are you? What are you making sure he's able to experience and see before he, you know, gets out of here and hopefully makes the decision to commit to Louisville. Well, Okay, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be annoying for a second because I would I would say, as soon as I knew that he was visiting, I would probably spend at least a couple hours reading stories about him, getting his bios from different places, looking at a social media and figuring out,
okay, what's the vibe here? Because you know, there's some guys who would say, you know, they've got a reverence for for history and and all that stuff. So I probably would take somebody like that to the Ali Center, right and show them the coultree of the ratest and and and show them you know, there's a lot of Louisville Pride in the Ali Center, so you might start to start the day there and just say, hey, the most famous athlete ever at least one of a very very short lists,
is from here. So I'd probably want to throw that in there if they were interested in that. But if they weren't, I mean, look, you know, you've got all these places. I would take them to a nice steak dinner at Jack Fries or maybe Jeff Rubies, I know is really good. Downtown Leamu is really good. I want to make sure that they had a really nice experience there. And then yeah, I mean I think this week you have to take them to the track, right, Are
there any rules? Oh yeah, taking a recruit to the track? No, I mean I would I would assume not. I know Mark Pop has taken some guys to Keenland, so I'm assuming it's it's fair game. Yeah, yeah, you got to take them to the track. And then you know, again, I think for for for me. You know, if this guy just happens to be a baseball fan, well you've got the freaking Slugger Museum right here in town. You got to take him to the Slugger
Museum show off. I mean, that's a cool little trip right downtown. But yeah, I just I think Louisville has so many fun things to offer, and I think the best part about it is right now to be here, So I would if I'm a coach, I'm pretty happy that I get a chance to have somebody come in for an official visit and giving the Derby festivities. And you know what makes it great is that I believe today would be the day, or maybe tomorrow at the track. I think his visit
may end tomorrow night or maybe on Friday. But because there's so much excitement in buzz with Louisville's fan base right now, just because of the new era that is Pat Kelsey, and everybody's just you know, hyper focused on seeing who ends up joining the roster. There's a really good chance for a chunk of the crowd today and tomorrow to be Louisville people, and they're going to
know who he is. They're going to see Pat Kelcey, and like, I can't think of a better scenario to have him out and about in Louisville where he will feel the love from fans like it. You know, here, I am once again feeling sounds. It sounds like I'm add in pressure for Pat Kelsey and I don't want to do that. But it is a perfect scenario, right, I think you've got you've got it. You got it lined up here to really showcase what Louisville can do. And you know
he clearly would have a big role here with this team. And you know, fingers crossed, have you picked a Derby horse? Shyet? No, I'm waiting me either. I'm waiting to see what some of the people who seem to know what they're talking about are going to say. But I've heard Sierra Leone is kind of a big name. But people don't like the post position, and that's as look at you dropping knowledge here Derby one fifty. I like it just enough to be dangerous. Greer, I like it.
I like it up. Yeah, you know, let's just say you're you're around somebody, you know at the airport. They think they're going to hear that, Oh this guy knows what he's talking about. I'm gonna ask him what what Horace? I want to bet on? So well, Gert, I appreciate the time as always, enjoy the rest of Derby Week. And we will talk soon, my friend. All right, thanks Nick, I appreciate you. Take care of that is Jeff Greer always appreciate his time.
Good stuff. All right, Uh, let's get out of here for a break. We'll come back, keep this thing rolling along. A couple things I want to get to before we run out of time today. Have you guys seen what Deon Sanders and his sons are doing on social media? I mean just completely. I feel like an old prude because I know Dion's the cool guy, but like just lame stuff with former players who left Colorado because
they were essentially booted. It's just it's lame. But I know Dion can do go wrong in the eyes of some and you know, if you if you have any criticism, you're just a hater because he's prime, he's the man. And coaches calling out other coaches for tampering without putting a name on it. That's actually even more lame, to be honest with you. So we'll finish strong here. Keep you updated if there's any developments on these visits, the portal, all that kind of stuff. So stick with us right
here. It's Coffee and Company. Philbth Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety So have you followed it all, the Dion Sanders and his son situation and all, do you even know what I'm talking about? One thing I've seen is
people just going at Colorado on Twitter, that kind of thing. So Max Olsen for The Athletic did a story on former players that were essentially, you know, told to leave Colorado when Dion got there, and there were some players that took that as a challenge and wanted to prove that they could play they and they belonged, and you know, a couple of them shared how it was really, you know, just infuriating situation because they weren't even really
given the option to do that. You know, they were you know, Deon Sanders never even took the chance to like talk with them and get to know them and you know, try to run them off. And to be fair, that does kind of happen, you know, unfortunately, it just
you know, it does. I think most coaches will be professional and direct to where it's not an insulting thing, because I think some players could take the insulting thing and look at it as if you're being challenged, look at it as if you're you're seeing what you're made of, because what de and look, it happens, meaning like coaches will run players off, and you know, in their own way. I think nobody would do it the way Dion did it. But I mean a lot of guys will just make it
clear. Look, with all due respect, I just you know, I'm gonna go in a different direction here, and you know, I think it'd be best for both sides if you looked elsewhere, just because of you know, the changes that are that are happening here. And a lot of guys will read the room and leave. But Deon Sanders replacing fifty three players in one off season is not normal. Like again, players kind of get shown
the door in the nicest way possible. And usually both sides at that point maybe aren't best of friends, but they're you know, it's a respectful thing, right, like you get it. Rarely is somebody going to be shown the door or without them having some awareness that they're probably not doing well there and they're probably not prioritized. So it happens. But again, what Dion
did is unprecedented. And some of these players that have talked about this just mention, you know how they never even got a chance to show what they could do, and that's led to Colorado players, mostly Dion and his two sons like sharing stats of these players and you know, saying things like I don't even remember this bum. He must have been ass like just being a jerk. I mean, that's just being a jerk. Like that's just being an absolute ahole. And it's one thing for players to do it because you
know they're college kids, but just still don't think that's an excuse. But at least you know that that's not a crazy thing to see. But you know, Dion encouraging it and joining in on it is just it's weak. It's weak. And Deon Sanders is one of those guys that like, I don't really care if he wins or loses. I kind of don't even really want to even like he's gonna move the needle for college football. He already has, but he's become the TMZ of college football, like Lebron James is
in the NBA. That's how polarizing, that's how that's how much presence that someone like Deon Sanders has in the college game. So they could go three to nine again next year, they're still gonna get talked about a lot because that's just what they do. Well they win. I don't know, wouldn't be shocked if they think, again, they weren't good last year, right, So, I mean Deon Sanders said after this past year where they were
very underwhelming, and that's another thing. They talk and carry themselves as if they are coming off of back to back Super Bowls when they really haven't accomplished anything. But it's all flash. It's all it's all flash and sizzle, results substance. They've done nothing, nothing, and they'll continue to act that way even if they don't have any results. And I know people are like, oh, you're just a hater of No. Deon Sanders did not win
many games last year. Maybe he breaks out this year and they have a great year. But even if he doesn't and they stink, they'll still be covered. They'll still be cocky, and that's just what they're gonna do.
Like he said after they were bad in his first year that he had some very big statement about the playoff like that, not only is that the expectation, it's gonna be the standard, We're gonna be there, you know, and most coaches wouldn't say that, but Dion can say it and fall miles short of it, and he'll he'll it'll just be Deon be and Dion. Deon's saying Deon stuff. And is it good for college football? A lot of people think it is because of the presence and the eyeballs he brings,
and that is a good thing. But I feel like the college game has always been able. We've always been able to avoid this. And what I mean by that is when you know, like you're not relevant. I mean, if you're not good, you're not relevant, like and they're gonna be relevant, They're gonna be a main And here's another it's such a I mean the numbers in in the views or whatever, and however it's judged, it's there because of Dion. So you know this, at the end of the
day, sports media, sports and it's entertainment. It's a business. So you're going to talk a lot about the teams, coaches, players that that get more people interested in listening to you. That's why Lebron James has talked about at least once every ten minutes on ESPN, regardless of what the show is. These areas, that's that's in the pros. You get it like the Yankees. The Yankees can stink, but they're always going to be talked
about. In the NFL, I kind of feel like it's there's not really been that, like there's actually been I think a good level of you know, balance. And right now it's the Chiefs. It's Kelsey and Mahomes and Andy Reeby. You know why, because they're in the midst of a potential dynasty. So when you add Taylor Swift to the mix, I mean it, you know, there's results there that led to them being this larger than
life talking point within the NFL. And in Kyle I mean in basketball, I mean you kind of just fade away if you're not you know, if you're not winning at a eye level, and if you are a big brand, a blue blood, you'll get your you'll get your fair share of criticism, You'll be talked about a lot because you're not what you once were or you're having a couple of bad years. But then you just kind of, you know, fade away to not exist. But you're just you're not you're
not leading sports center because you're lost again. Right and with Dion, maybe they are good and then it'll be justified. But they're going to get a level of coverage that I get because again, I understand how this works. It's a business you're going to talk about and you know, highlight profile what gets people more inclined to listen and watch, and he does that, so credit to him. But it's gonna exist regardless if they're good or not. And it's not like I'm you know, a prude. You know, it's
not like I you know, I'm not. I'm not somebody that you know, thinks that you can't have personality and have flair. I just usually it's usually it's something that there's there's a give and take, right Like, if you're gonna be super cocky and arrogant, you better back it up. Deon didn't have to back it up because he'll just talk and everybody's gonna watch.
Am I making sense here, Johan, Like, I know it sound like a hater of Dion, but I just it's just that, I mean, I mean, they were an interesting story at the beginning of last year because they upset TCU. We didn't realize how bad TCU was at the time. They won two or three games to open their season and it was new and then they got hammered by Oregon. They were still relevant for a little while,
but I do remember towards the back half of the season. Maybe it's just because they didn't have anything, Like Dion wasn't saying much himself, but it just seemed like they did shift away from the Colorado narrative after there really wasn't anything going on. But if there is something going on with Colorado that some might deem newsworthy, they're going to talk about it. I get what you're saying. Yeah, and look he did, I mean, he did
daddy ball for those who don't know what I mean. He got involved because like they went four to eight last year, not three or nine, and he got a mac coach to leave his head coaching spot. I think it might have been at Toledo or Kent State, and he came there to call
plays for Dion Big and the offense was phenomenal. The defense stunk, and you know, instead of Dion looking in the mirror as the head coach and maybe addressing defense, you know, he didn't like how his son was being used, yet the offense was fine, So he demoted the OC that left his job as a head coach. He demoted him from play calling and that
guy, now I believe is the head coach at San Diego State. It's like Dion does things that like that that would be a fool that would be criticized, that'd be something that would be looked at as a foolish thing. And like this guy is, you know, he's not really leading his team. He's not worried about what's best for the team. He's literally just worried about his son's stats and stuff like that's what he did. But yet he's such a larger than life presence that he's just going to talk and say Dion
stuff and it's going to be the only thing people run with. And it's just going to annoy me because it's going to be in our face a lot. And it's fine if it's in our face if they're good. But they haven't been good yet. They lost their last six games of the season, so we'll see, we shall see. And I love this last night because again like these you know, these the Sanders, Dion's kids. They've got you know, a lot of followers on social media, so does Dion.
And there's a guy Utep who left Colorado. Then they're just bagging on him. Because he said in this interview that you know, he felt like here's what he's here's here's his quote. This is Xavier Smith on Deon Sanders. It's like you never even tried to get to know me. He was just throwing guy's confidence, well his son. I mean that that's that's not like a personal shot. That's just telling your side of the story. You were answering a question in an interview that was used for a story. Well,
shandor Sanders just comes out. I won't even I don't even remember him tbh. Bro had to be very mid at best. So then that just lead to like everybody else clowning this dude who's just moved on to it to an FCF school, living in his own I mean he didn't, he didn't take to social media. He was asked to be part of the story. So this guy is now at UTEP. He was at Austin p initially. Now he's at UTEP and his coach, you know, and I love this.
Maybe it's maybe I'm just a sucker for maybe something corny like this if you think it's corny, But like his coach took to social media and was like, you know, he's furthest He's the furthest thing from mid He's a hell of a player, was a freshman All American for me at Austin p We were glad. I was glad to get him back when I took the job with UTEP. Works his ass offt He's tough as can be, like,
you know, like coach shouldn't have to do that. But when the entire internet is just you know, gargling the you know what of Dion Sanders and his kids, Like I would stick up from my player too, like he didn't. He didn't, he wouldn't trying to pick a fight. He was asked in an interview by The Athletic about the situation, gave an honest answer, and you know, these child I mean, it's just childish. Man. I feel like such a prude because the more I talk about it,
the more I'm realizing, like it just works me up. But like it's just sports needs a circus every now and then because at the end of the day, it's entertainment. But I guess I just don't find d On that entertaining. And it's then when the joke or the entertainment is at somebody else's expense. Especially when it doesn't seem like it's it's true necessarily against it's not right. They carry themselves and talk as if they've accomplished something when in fact
they suck. It's the kind of stuff that makes you want Colorado to go oh in twelve next year. Yeah, I mean, let me let me find this real quick. I know we got to get a break and I gotta do a read. But what's the name of Dan Lanning? Do you that's the name? Do you remember what he said at before they played? Uh? Before they played last year? I don't remember the quote. No, oh it was it was perfect, play it real quick here. This is because again there was a lot of hype, you know, Colorado talking
all kinds of junk before the game, and they got killed. This was Dan Lenning to his team before that game was played. And of course it's you know, it's not playing, which is great. It's come on, computer's just doing No, it's it's given me the media can't play. So I think it's Twitter doing what it you know, what it wants to do. Uh yeah, son of a buck. And again I can't just let it be. I got it, and now it's on my mind. So like, you know, we'll have time if we want to come back to
it. Yeah, it's just driving me crazy. All right, let's see not flash is today we talk with our pats right every moment. The Cinderella story is over, man, Right, they're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins. And there's a difference, right, there's a difference. This game ain't gonna be playing in Hollywood. Is gonna be played on the grass, or it's gonna be played on the grass? Let's gone. I love that. I love that and Matt rule speech, which they're two totally different
subjects or some good ones from last year. And I love that Oregon was up thirty five to nothing in the first quarter in that game. Love it all right. You know what else? I love Eatling and Eland And that's who you need a trust when it comes to buying or selling a home. They've been doing this for a long time, folks. The numbers five two, five, eight hundred. Quick break will come back and wrap it up on the other side. All right, let's wrap it fire through as many as these as we many of these as we can do. You know who Steven mL is no me either. The name kind of looks familiar.
This is somebody, Okay, So this guy, oh yeah, I recognize him. He's an actor and I'm looking at his face right now and he's in something that I just that I just watched. Okay, yeah, she's she's an actress for you know, she's been around a while. She's hanging with mister Cooper. That's what I remember her for.
