It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now here's Nick Coffee. All right, let's get it started hour number two here on a Wednesday afternoon Coffee and Company that is us. My name is Nick Coffee, the company man mister John all on alongside today and

we are fueled by Thornton's. So let's just dive right in here. I asked this question yesterday on the show I Believe in the four o'clock hour, got some good responses, and then I opened it up today to social media on Facebook and on Twitter, asking people who is the most random celebrity that they've seen in Louisville for Derby? Rather it be this year, which probably not yet because you know it's Wednesday, but doesn't even have to be somebody

who saw at Derby. Just somebody you saw in Louisville and you're like, well, they're obviously here for or for the Kentucky Derby. And some really good responses have come in. I'll share some of them. This is from Danny Sinnaart who says former seventy six are great. Matt Geiger and he saw him in the infield. Could totally see that, and that is like super random. If I'm being honest with you, google Matt Geiger John because I know you have no clue who that is. But he played for the Sixers,

one of the big white guys in the NBA in the nineties. There was a lot more of him back then. And he looks like a dude who would be partying in the infield, a man of the people. He'd be pounding some bush locks. Yeah, absolutely, this says a Rishard Lewis. See, I don't know if the professional athletes it is random, but it's also like, you know, it's kind of not though, right, Like it's like niche depending on how like you know what your interests are.

So I would say, just in my time covering Derby the last eight years, when I'm there for you know, a few hours of it, it's not like I've seen countless celebrities, but you know, the majority of those that I have seen are NFL players, guys who played in the NFL or or are still playing in the NFL. Tony Cruz says Diane Lane in the Elevator when she was promoting the movie Secretariat. That's certainly a legendary celebrity.

Rick says, Doctor Jay walking through the crowd on the first turn Bill Bellamy in front of him in a betting line. Those are those are pretty like Bill Bellamy. Man, that's a forgotten comedian. I'm trying to think of what, like what the Bill Bellamy era was, But like, I feel like when I was a kid in the nineties, he was he you know, that's when he kind of had his his run where he was one of

the more known comics. Was he on in Living Color? I feel like he was a part of some show that that, you know, kind of kept him in the limelight for a while. He was on Deaf Comedy Jam. Maybe that's what really elevated him. But that I'd consider that to be you know, a random celebrity. Brooke Burke from e TV. I remember that name. I'm not sure if I would recognize her. To be honest with you, this says, what about girlfriend shared an elevator with Tom Brady

during Derby Week. She sent me a selfie with him. Yeah, I mean that's not random though, Like that's a super super famous celebrity who is always a Derby. Like again, it's cool to see a celebrity, but that's not you greave me John like that, it's not random. Yeah, I mean it's what is random. My wife works Derby and Oaks every year as one of the tellers, I guess is what it's called. And she was exchanging. Your wife works the window at for Millionaire's Row. Yes,

I didn't know that. Yeah, she's done it for the last maybe five or hours. She get in on that. So her mom has also done it for an even longer amount of time, and she kind of got grandfathered into it. I guess. I mean she must. I mean she must see a lot of celebrities, right, she sees a lot of people.

I think last year she met the governor. But a couple of years ago Tom Brady was frequently going to her window, and not until after everything was over did somebody mentioning, Hey, tom Brady was at your window all day and you had no idea. See. I would imagine in that spot you're gonna see people that you assume are famous, but you don't really know what from, right, or you may recognize somebody but you can't remember what it's from, are you. So if you saw a celebrity, uh, let's

say you ran into I don't know the guy. We didn't know his name Rip from Yellowstone. He's going to be at the Barnstable party, So you would recognize him, right, I wouldn't. You wouldn't, Okay, Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you watched Yellowstone. I'm just trying to think of somebody, uh, you know Kit Moore. Would you recognize him? I know who he is. No, he's a country singer, but I

wouldn't. I'm not sure I recognize him either. I know I know him, but I wouldn't be able to. I wouldn't be able to figure take me forever to figure out who he is. I'm trying to think of somebody that you know, like Dustin Lynch or something. How about let's do this. Let's say you saw Let's say you saw Donovan Mitchell at the derby. Okay, would you say anything to him? As somebody who's not a Louisville fan? I wouldn't feel like I would need to. Well, and plus

he doesn't he doesn't care. Maybe that's not a Maybe that's not all he cares about who you are? Trust me? Oh yeah, but but I'm who's one of your Who's an actor? That Ben Stiller? You know be still is right, that's a good one. If you saw Ben Stiller, would you say anything to him? Like would you ask for a picture? Would you say, Hey, that's Ben Stiller? Would you ask for an

autograph? I would have to It would have to be the right moment, Yeah, like I would be. It would be one of those things where I'm maybe in the corner. I mean the corner seems a little creepy. I just kind of scoping it out, just waiting the corner, staring at him, seeing what he's doing, and if he seems like he's enjoying himself

and you know, approachable, I guess i'd probably say hello. So it's just not my like I I wouldn't know what to say, so like, I'm an introvert, so therefore I'm I'm not one to just chat up anybody. And yeah, I could get wide eyed if I saw a celebrity like wow, like that's that. I can't believe I'm right in front of him. But I other than hello, like I wouldn't. I wouldn't know what to say other than hey, I'm a meal. I guess I could say hey, I'm a big fan, but like you know, there are people

that I would ask for a picture if they would do it. But I also kind of feel like, if they're there and they're super famous, they they've taken enough pictures before they even enter the track, and they're probably not wanting to do that, and I wouldn't want to be rude. And I have a fear. I have a fear of meeting somebody that I really really really like and then hating them because they're jerks. And I shouldn't say hate because you know, they'd have to probably be an ultimate ahole for me to

like think that they're the worst person ever. But Reggie Miller was my idol growing up as a kid. Loved him, I mean still love Reggie.

My favorite basketball player of all time. Love Reggie Miller. And in twenty nineteen, Louisville played in Des Moines in the NCAA tournament and Reggie was you know, works for Turner and he was on the call and during the open practice for fans, he was there and I was on the court getting some video clips and whatnot, and Dino Gattio of all people, walked Kristin Cunningham over to see Reggie Miller, and you know, I mean Honestly, Dino

was just being a great coach and wanted wanted Reggie to know before the game, this is my point guard and he's you know, he's a great guy. And Reggie like fanned out just to be nice to Kristen, you know, and just you know, like, oh wow, man, and actually

had the video. Knew I knew Kristen's I still know his brother pretty well, and I remember sharing that video with him, and you know, it's a moment they'll always have because it's Reggie Miller telling Cunningham he wishes he could have played with him because he knows he would have been able to get a bunch of shots, because that's the good of a point guard's that's an NBA legend who Kristin never watched him, sure, because he's so young. But

you know, that was cool for me to see. But I never wanted to approach him and say anything myself because I'd heard that he's not nice to people, and I did. I mean, it's corny as it sounds. It would kill me if Reggie Miller was a jerk to me, like, because it's the first athlete I ever was a super fan of, like a young kid who I mean, I pretended to be him recreating his shots against the Nicks in my driveway. So I'd rather not know. But that'd be

terrifying. But that was a cool experience for me to see that because at least gave me I got a first hand glimpse with nobody filming or nobody really like. It wasn't on TV. It wasn't you know, it wasn't for show. I mean, I videoed it, but I was twenty yards away on the other side of the court, you know, So you know I would if I saw somebody I really liked, my instincts would probably just be

not to say anything because I wouldn't want to have a different impression. And if they if they were to say no things, I don't want to take a picture or you know, sorry I'm busy or you know, that wouldn't make them a jerk. It's just I have my own view of them, and I'd rather stay that way, right, same thing about Jerry Seinfeld. I love Jerry Seinfeld. I've always heard he's a jerk to people, and

I don't want I would never want that. I would never want to have that, you know, I'd never want because at that point, the only thing you'll think of is, man, I met my hero and he's a jerk, right, Like you don't want that. But there's not many people like I. I've never gotten an autograph from a celebrity that I've met. I used to get autographs like the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic, the basketball event, because that's all the kids did. They lined up and got autographs.

But the autograph's gone away. I mean, memorabilia that is signed by like an athlete, cool, But if you're not an athlete, Like, is there a memorabilia for like celebrities that are actors and musicians, like I guess there is, Like maybe you get a signed album of them or something, or assigned picture if it's a famous actor or actress, But now the autograph's

been replaced by the picture. Everybody wants to get a picture on their phone with a celebrity they see, and that's cool because then you can share that forever and you can have it. And but I just I don't, you know, it's not my personality to ask a stranger to take a picture with me, no matter who they are. I don't know if it just it's not me, But I have noticed that if you know, I'll ask somebody to take a picture of my kid, even if they don't know who it

is. Right, it's fine, you know. It's just you mentioned Scott Stapp earlier. That's somebody that I think I would try to make my way and say hello too. Yeah, and by all accounts he's apparently really nice to people. Yes, so yeah, we'll get This is one more I wanted to read. And for those just now joining us, I've asked people to share the most random celebrity siding that they've ever had during Derby Week over the years. Doesn't have to be at Churchill, but just somebody around town.

This is from tm Y Yates on Twitter. Says Jeff Bezos at Savice a few years ago that would be I mean, I feel like I would be able to spot Jeff Bezos, But what do people say to him? Like he's super famous because of his business, but like do we know a lot about his personality? Like what would you say to Jeff Bezos, Hey, congrats on being stupid rich bro. Yeah. People might throw, they might hurl insotes, insult or you might say like, hey, I'm a

big fan of like you know, hey, I love Amazon. I use it every day, Like what are you to He's super famous, but like, I don't really know what the line would be, like, Hey, you can't say I loved you in this movie or I'm a big fan of this and that. I mean, I guess you say I'm a big fan of Amazon. This is this is maybe the best one yet. This is a Twitter account called John Robicks hair Emmanuel Lewis at a restaurant. So Emmanuel Lewis is Webster from the TV show way way back in the day. If

you're not familiar John, you can look him up. He's he's a retired actor now, but he yeah, I'm not I don't want to be. Uh, he looks he's always looked like a really young kid despite not being really young. I don't know if it's a condition or what it is, but uh, he was in Webster for you know, in the eighties and was a big star. And you know that's somebody that even like I didn't watch Webster, I wasn't around, but I you know, there's put it

this way. There's things that it might have been my dad who told me this the other day, and he's right. There's a lot of stuff from the eighties early nineties that I didn't live to see live, but I know all about it. And it's because when I was a young kid, the Internet didn't exist, so I watched what was on reruns all the time,

like if you know that it was. So kids who have the Internet, like, they're not watching stuff that was made because they get other they can occupy themselves with their tablets and games, video games, that kind of stuff. So I remember Webster watching it on reruns on like Nicket Night or TV Land whatever it was. But you know, it was on during the eighties

before I was born, I believe, all right. So for those just now joining the party here Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety a busy, busy day on the transfer portal, watch Kentucky has landed two players today. Kobe Brea, the transfer from Dayton did end up picking Kentucky after his visit yesterday. And then also a guy that I didn't

even know was considering Kentucky, Kerr chrisa close enough, close enough. Yeah, he's previously he played last year West Virginia and before that he played I think two years at Arizona and now he's going to transfer to Kentucky. He's a point guard average eleven points in four assists last year. So Mark Pope in the last week has has really started to I mean, they've got more than just a foundation. They've got I think nearly as many commits as Louisville

does. And Louisville had their wave, right, I mean, I think the week that Mark Pope has had since last Thursday is really what Pat Kelsey

had for about a ten day stretch there, right. It started with Javon Hatley, and then from then on you just started to add commitments and you sit with eight and the one potential commitment that we're hoping happens is Great Osibor, who is the Utah State transfer who visited Kentucky the last couple of days, and yesterday Jeff Goodman broke the news that he is not going to be considering Kentucky. Their edition of the Oklahoma State Transfer Garrison, I guess eliminated

their chances. I don't know if they use their inn I all money for that. I'm not really sure what happened, but I don't care the fact that he's in Louisville as we speak visiting and it's Derby week. That's that's I mean, that's what you want. Now can that lead to a commitment?

Only time will tell, And I just look, I gotta admit it, like my hopes of I've got my hopes up here, and I don't want to I don't want to have you know, you never you know, you never want to have expectations that are high and then it not happened, and then you're underwhelmed, right like, you know, expect the worst, hope for the best. That's how you keep yourself from, you know,

getting too high or too low. But the way it's lined up with him visiting now during Derby Week, pat Kelsey having some real momentum, Kentucky being no longer considered, I mean, it just seems like, you know, here we go, let's get it done. But what's keeping me from, you know, I guess fully going overboard here and just assuming he's because it's not like I'm telling you, I believe he's gonna commit. But I've thought about him being a part of this team next year more than I probably should,

which has led to me just you know, getting too excited. But one thing that'll keep me a little levelheaded, is that the scenario where he ends up following Danny Sprinkle to Washington, the coach he played for last year that left Utah State to go to Washington. I still think that most just are guessing and assuming that that's where he ends up. So I guess I'm gonna keep that in mind, and then, you know, if he does

end up popping for Louisville, that'd be great. Although he did ask yesterday Kevin Sweeney of Sports Illustrated, who covers college hoops, where he thought he would end up, and it was just a guess, right, as if he had any intel, But he said, lo, so that'd be huge, man, And you still have other players you are going to go. Add I know, the young man from Bellerman is somebody there. They're they're pursuing, and I think he's, in my opinion, the perfect kind of

guy for for for depth. Right, he's a Bellerman averaged about eleven points and I'm not sure how many rebounds, but uh was it was a good interior player for Scott Davenport, and you know he would give you, you know depth. He wouldn't be a guy that I think you'd want to you know, start and you know, really run, you know, run a lot of things through in the post, but you know you need you need thirteen scholarship players. I mean, you can you can get by without that.

But you know this isn't just as I've said many times, the Louisville is not out out here in the portal. You know, looking to UH to add a few pieces to solidify, you know, their rotation. They're building an entire team, and so far they've added eight guys UH. And I think if you could get Osibor, I think from there, you you know, you're always going to try to get the best players you possibly can,

and there are still some really good players available. But I think, you know, you could feel as if your foundation's pretty much set at that point, because that would give you eight that you know, we're playing nine if you consider Khalifa, who may red shirt, and then anybody else. I think it's just an added bonus. All Right, We're gonna get to our next derby profile coming up in just a moment, and then we're gonna

bring in mister cant Spencer from WHA S eleven. But real quick, let's take a look at the UH. The up, the the the Barnstable Party list here because we've looked at I think more than half here. But here is the guest list because what we're doing is looking at each of these celebrities and not We're not determining if they're celebrities or not, because hey, they're on the list, right, and that's all that matters. You can be a celebrity and may not know who you are because I'm not. You know,

I'm not. I'm not the gatekeeper here as far as who's a celebrity and who's not. But I believe we left off with with Lee Brice. I think, yes, all right, what about and this is a dead giveaway, Pepa of Salt and Peppa we know who that is? Yes,

just because the name tells us who it is. Mickey Geiden know the name, can't think of who it is. See, that's one of those where I feel like I would just guess baseball player like you did the other day, because it sounds like Mickey Mantle. That's probably not a baseball player. I'm gonna guess Mickey Geiton is some type of musician, and Mickey Guiton is. It's a woman. It's a woman, and she's a musician, a country singer. What's her hit? I don't know if I know her her

catalog, but you know she must be an up and comer. I'm looking here on Wikipedia and her discography. She's uh, you know, nothing showing that I'm familiar with. But hey, that doesn't means she's not a celebrity. She's on the list. She's famous, So congratulations to her. Let's see Travis Tritt. Of course, we know who Travis trid is got the rice cooking in the microwave. Yeah, Eddie Montgomery, we know who that is. All right, this is gonna be a good one for you,

Doug E. Fresh. He's a DJ or a rapper, right, Yeah, I didn't know if you'd know that or not, because that's you know, that's that's way back, yeah, nineties. He's a beatbox DJ, rapper guy. And again I'm for those that were, I guess very much into the hip hop wave whenever, you know he was doing his thing back

in the eighties. I apologize I wasn't alive, so I know who he is, and you know I was alive during some of his his you know, his run as far as being a big celebrity, but yeah, he's to me, seems like somebody that got the invite once and just keeps coming back, like and hey, they're going to have him, then he must be a great guest and a good get all right, Billy Gilman, you know who that is? Billy Gilman. I feel like he's an actor. This is one of the most I mean, I think this is one of

the most random celebrities in that comes to this. And I know who he is, but it's I wouldn't be shocked if most people don't. I see, he's a singer. Yeah, so he as a young kid. And I mean this like I say, he's born in nineteen eighty eight, so he's my age. But in what year was that song? He had a song called One Voice, and he was you know, he was a young

kid, so you were hearing a little kid sing. It wasn't like you were hearing he was twelve years old, so it was you know, it was a big I think it might have been like number one or something in the country when he but it was such a sad song and he was like clearly a one hit wonder from what I understand, And I forgot all about him. And I remember doing this a few years ago looking at this list, and I remember thinking, why do I know that name? And I

guarantee you for twenty something years, I'd forgot this person existed. And I'm not sure if he's still singing or what actually says here. He auditioned for the voice in twenty sixteen. So interesting. I guess he was away from you know, the spotlight for quite some time. And you know now he's he's he's a celebrity guest at the biggest derby party that we have here in

Louisville every year. So we've got a handful left and we'll and I think actually the more we run through here, there are going to be some that we we probably both don't know and are going to have to use Google to

figure out. So well do that before we run out of time. Today we got about an hour and a half love with you guys, But Derby profiles coming up next, and then we'll bring in Kent Spencer from WHS eleven, which a thoroughbred is up next here John Sierra Leone, Oh popular one here, let's hear it now, look at the Kentucky Derby field one by one Sierra Leone Bluegrass Stakes winner, Sierra Leone will be looking to give trainer

Chad Brown his first Kentucky Derby winner. A dark bay Brown son of gun Runner, Sierra Leone, is one of the favorites for the Kentucky Derby. He has three wins and a second in four career starts. Sierra Leone is

the highest priced horse in the field. In fact, he was the highest price course of all the three hundred and forty six Triple Crown nominees at two point three million dollars Cold Sierra Leone started his career with a victory at Aqueda in November and a maiden race right into the Steaks Company, finished second in the Remsen and then began his three year old career a win in the Risen Star and a victory by a length and a half in the Bluegrass Steaks.

Owned by John Magner, Derek Smith, Peter Brand, Michael Tabor and Looievillion at Brooks Smith, Sierra Leone is a closer. He will be dropped back towards the back of the field and he will be coming down the stretch. A lot of folks they worry about traffic. Chad Brown says he feels like he's got the right horse for the Kentucky Derby. You know, in recent years we've seen some horses that were in the rear of the race early win,

so that gives you a lot of hope. You know, with these closers, you definitely have to navigate your traffic and work in truck house. It's a contain one we're challenging. Just hopefully there's a solid case in the race and that will spread the field out a bit and the boy traffic. Brown is oh fourth in the Kentucky Derby, a second place finished with good

Magic in twenty eighteen, cier leone will be one of the favorites. He's two for two since Chad Brown added blinkers, and Brown is excited about this opportunity. He's really just a gifted tour since perfect. So I mean he's you know, you don't quote a the seratogy yearling say I'll bring over two million dollars unless you know you're the man, you know, and he's but I'm proud of the horse. He backed it up. He's he's always gone

out there. He's he's a very intelligent horse. He's very focused. He takes things in in a very focused intelligent man, like I said, because of all the things we just identified about the hors and makes him a horse. It's supposed to be custom made for videoga. That's right. Coffee and Company field By Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciate you hanging out

with us as we take you up till six o'clock. Reminder, I am, I'm out tomorrow and Friday, so there for you will uh you won't hear me, but Uh'll be back on Monday, and I would imagine we'll have some updates from the transfer portal and uh, I also uh, you know, imagine we'll have a lot to react to from uh from Derby weekend. All right, so we're going to try to track down mister kN Spencer

coming up here in just a moment. He's a busy man, of course, you know, working uh working Derby week for the folks at w HS eleven. And now I'm overthinking it, like did I we had this, We had we had not an issue last week, but I he he RSVP'd for the show, but I couldn't remember what time it was, and now uh we're unable to reach of it. It has me thinking that maybe I told him the wrong time. Either way, we'll try to we'll try to

track him down and have our weekly chat with with mister Ken Spencer. Maybe I told him five o'clock five thirty. I don't know, not sure, but I'll text him see what's up, and we will we we'll go from there, all right. Uh, I'm trying to see here if there's been any other names added to the portal with the you know, the deadline coming up here at midnight. You know, I mentioned earlier the addition of Trevon Brazil, the former the former Arkansas big man. You know, I thought

maybe maybe he would he'd be one of the last big name. And I guess he's maybe not a big name because he wasn't very productive last year for Arkansas, but you know, he's somebody that at one point I believe was looked at as a like a legitimate lottery pick type of player, just because of upside and potential. So we'll see if there's any other big names added.

There are guys that have entered the portal, but by all accounts are doing it really just to cover their rear end if in fact they get really bad draft feedback. So Coleman Hawkins, the sharpshooting big guy for Illinois.

He has by all accounts, gone all in here with the NBA. But before the deadline he did put his name in the portal, but he put out some kind of a message letting Illinois fans know that it's really just like a an emergency type situation, like let's just say something happens and he had to come back to school. He'll have the option to you know, go

where he wants, or you know, go back to Illinois. And I can't really tell if this is a good question that came in actually yesterday on the text line if the portal has been underwhelming as far as you know, the guys that have entered it, And I don't really know how you would answer that. I guess it just depends on perspective, and you know, one man's opinion as far as are the guys that ended up being available, were they, you know, really big names that could really change a team.

I think there's plenty of good players out there. But last year you had Hunter Dickinson, you had Caleb Love and I don't have we had that yet this year, John, I don't. I don't think so either like Hunter Dickinson I think at this point is one of the bigger names that has ever ended the portal in the early era of the transfer portal, just because of how good he was at Michigan as far as production, and you know, he was really good. Last year at Kansas, they just you know,

they didn't make a deep run. And did they lose in the first round, No, it would have been the second round. Anyways, they ended up getting beat earlier than most anticipated, and their best player outside of Dickinson was Kevin McCuller, who ended up getting shut down right before the end

of the regular season. So despite that, I still think that that Kansas being viewed as like everybody's preseason number one next year, I think as far as what we know now, I'd say it's justified, just because they've they've added some really good players in the portal and they bring back some good players, including you know, Hunter Dickinson. All Right, so this is a

really sad, sad situation here that is almost unbelievable. But if you remember a few weeks ago, Javon Porter, the former NBA player, he became I believe the first player in like eight years to be banned from the NBA. And you know, he did the ultimate thing that you can't do as a professional athlete. That's bet on your team to lose that you play for. He did that among other things. Right, this guy I think had

a gambling problem. You know, maybe he would say he doesn't. He just likes to gamble and he had a lot of money, so he did it. It was just entertainment. But you know, you can't do that. And I'm not even sure if this is viewed as a NBA making an example out of somebody, I think it's not. They're not. They're not going harsh to make an example. If you bet on your own team to lose while you're playing in the National Basketball Association, they are going to bang

you for life. Like that's not an example. That's just what's going to happen. And you can't be surprised. But man, the Porter family has had a rough month. Obviously. Michael Porter Junior is the most notable Porter brother. I would say, given the fact that he's an NBA player and a good one at that, was a big time star in the college game, and because he had a back injury, he was somebody that when the

Nuggets took him. I think at the end of the lottery he might have been later than that, but when they did that, it was viewed as a big risk. But you know, if in fact he's healthy, it could be a huge payoff because at one point some people thought he'd be the number one pick in the draft. Well, I think at this point it's

clearly been a big payoff for them because they just want a title. And obviously, you know, Jamal Murray and yok h are the two man, I mean, those are the two best players for the Nuggets, but Porter Junior is their third best player and he's really good. But the other brothers, I mean, we mentioned Javonte Porter who ended up getting a a you know band from the NBA. Well, then within two or three days of that happening, I believe either the youngest brother or the young one of the

younger brothers. I know he's a younger brother to Javante and to Michael Porter Jr. He got sentenced to I believe. Let's see here, Yeah, Coben Porter pled guilty and was sentenced to a prison sentence, sentenced to prison. I don't know how long his sentence was, but he had a dui. He played at Denver University, where his brother, of course plays for the Nuggets. Well, he was a I think a freshman for Denver the university basketball program. He got a DUI and ended up killing some one.

So he pled guilty and is going to prison for I'm not sure how long. And then last night Javon Porter, who is a transfer uh he transferred from Pepperdine to Loyola Marymount this offseason, he was arrested last night for a d UI. So, I mean, just a rough, a rough month or so for the Porter family. And you know, I mean, I don't know if like his fam I don't know anything about his I know his dad was a former coach and I think it actually been a former player.

But there's a lot of siblings. I think there's a bunch of sisters too, and I don't know how many of their are. I don't know how many Porter kids there are, But just think about that, in a month's time, one guy banned from the NBA for betting on his own team to lose, one brother sentenced to prison because of a DUI that killed somebody, and now another brother who's currently playing college basketball gets arrested for a dui. I mean, that's that's crazy if you think about it. All Right,

So seth Town, do you remember that name John? I know it sounds familiar. He's the guy who quite literally is eligible for a ninth season of college basketball nine season. Started his career at I think it Harvard, transferred to Ohio State, transferred to Howard, been all over the place. Well, he actually is eligible for a ninth year, but he has decided not to use his ninth season of eligibility, which would have been a record. I mean, when did this guy graduate college or high school? I mean,

let's look it up. I mean it's probably somebody who came out like when, like guys like Donovan Mitchell did. Yeah. So he he was born in nineteen ninety seven. That's when I was born. So that's crazy, is it? Really? That is crazy? So he started, Yeah, this guy in twenty sixteen. In twenty seventeen was his freshman year of This dude's the same age as me. So yeah, yeah, So, I mean, and he played at Harvard for three years. I'm sorry.

He was at Harvard for four years, but in twenty eighteen nineteen, in twenty nineteen twenty those two seasons he did not play because he was injured. I don't know what his injury was, but he did not play at all. Well. Then he transferred to Ohio State for his fifth year, played there and played in twenty five games, averaged like four points a game. Then the next year he played or he was at Ohio State but could not play because of an injury. So in twenty twenty two to twenty three he

took the year off, didn't play. I don't know he did. I don't even worry. I don't even know if he's in school or not. Well. Then last year he ended up enrolling at Howard played there one year and what you know, averaged I think you might have been the player of the year in that conference. So because he's only actually played in four seasons and all the other years he's missed because he either sat out or he was injured, he could get the fifth year, I guess because of COVID.

Like it used to be, once you start your clock, you got five years to play four and if you wanted to get four and six you had to apply for a waiver, which they would give you right like if you were somebody that had a medical red shirt or you you know, or maybe you just didn't, you just took a red shirt season. It was pretty clear you could you could get you know, there was an exception they would make well I don't know how, but apparently he would have been eligible.

Again, that's probably just because the NSAA doesn't have any ability to make any rules, right, I mean they can. You know, this dude would have been a twenty seven year old playing college basketball if he played next season. It's crazy. All right, Before we take a quick break, let's take a look at some of the more some more of these random celebrity siding. So I've asked listeners and asked social media to let us know who's the

most random celebrity siding that they've they've encountered during Derby Week. Rather it be this year, probably years past, doesn't have to be somebody you saw with somebody who ran into in Louisville during Derby Week and you clearly knew they were here because of that. This is Let's see, somebody mentioned Polly Show yesterday. We got another person saying Polly Shore. I guess he was making his way around town. Dave Chappelle on four Street that's what Charles says. That's

a good one. Dave Chappelle's not random, he's super famous, but running into him and like if you just randomly saw him, like in the crowd at four Street, that would be super random because he's super famous and he's pretty private too. This is Dean Adam, says, Dean Norris, who is Hank from Breaking Bad. He got a private tour at Slugger during Derby Week, and I guess Adam worked at Slugger. That would be I mean

to me that somebody. And Dean Norris has been in a lot of stuff, but I of course as somebody who you know, like many love Breaking Bad. I only think of him as White's brother in law in Breaking Bad, but he's been in a lot of other stuff too. He's actually in

the spin off of a Better Call Saul. I actually think he's one of those guys that I just just so like, there's a lot of people you see in a show or various shows, maybe various movies, and like you know, you've seen them in a bunch of different stuff, so like you you know, you know their range. You're probably well aware that the person that you see in real life when they're not on camera is much different than

the characters. For whatever reason, Dean Norris, I can just I cannot see him being anything other than the guy who is again Walter White's brother in Breaking Bad. Speaking of that, Greg says Shooter McGavin showed up to a Derby party he attended. Shooter McGavin may in fact be one of the I mean, his real name is Christopher MacDonald and he's been in other stuff too, But I don't know, I can't there's other celebrities that have done it,

but I can't think of them off the top of my head. But what I'm getting at is they lean into the role they're most known for and they kind of just stay that person their entire life slash career, and it never runs out. That's such an iconic movie, Happy Gilmore, that if you're shoot, if you're always in characters Shooter McGavin, you're probably gonna always have people showing love because you know, that movie's awesome and that's a funny

character. I mean, I don't know if there's a more notable character in Happy Gilmore. Obviously Adam Sandler. Happy Gilmore himself is the is the movie, but like that movie's not the same without without Christopher McDonald, who again played Shooter McGavin. Like Screech, remember Screech from Saved by the Bell.

That's somebody that you know. I don't think he wanted to be tight cast, but I think at some point, like he became well, if he was going to stay in the limelight and get booked and be you know, notable as a celebrity, he needed to be Screech powers like in every way. He actually passed away not that long ago, which was really sad,

and he'd fallen on some hard times towards the end of his life. I believe, all right, quick break, we'll come back on the other side, finish up the four o'clock hour, figure out what the hell's going on with Ken Spencer, and then give you another Derby profile before we hit the top of the hour. It's Coffee and Company. Phil about Thornton's right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety Did you see John Keller Perry's house is up for sale. I did see that. Three point nine million dollars, five

bedrooms, eight bathrooms, nine six hundred and fifteen square feet. He bought it in May of two thousand and nine for one point eight million dollars that that'll be on the market for a while, won't it. I mean think so well, just because just because it's there's not a big there's not a whole lot of people that are looking for a house. I wouldn't think that that are looking that's the range just because that's a lot of money. It

could be wrong. Maybe I'm maybe I'm the only one that just considers that to be an insane amount of money for a you know, for a a home. But would you want to live in a home that that you knew, like a famous person lived there? Would it matter? Would you care? Like if you like the house, would or would you would you like the house more if you knew somebody famous lived there? I think it depends on who the famous person is, honestly in your connection to them. Yeah,

I gotta be honest with you. I'm really weird about my home. You know, we have guests over all the time, but people who I don't know, like being in my home was very unusual, right, but it never rarely ever happens. But I wouldn't want to know who lived in my home before, Like, I know who we bought the house from. But the only time I ever saw them was that was at closing and it

was one of the two. Uh, it was the woman because the rest of the family had already moved, I believe to Colorado or something like that. So, uh, there's not like I'm it's not I mean to me, I just when I'm in a home, I want to consider it just to be my home. And if I like randomly see somebody that's like an acquaintance that that you know, used to live in my house, I'd get over it, Like I wouldn't think about it. But I don't, you know, am I making sense? Am I sounding like a crazy person?

Yeah, I've never thought about those kinds of things, but I can see why that would be weird. Yeah. So like the two houses, in fact, the three houses we've lived in, I'm pretty sure each of the owners that we bought from were the first people to live there, which you know, there could have been five different people lived there and it wouldn't have really mattered. You know, once you're there at your home, you don't

think about anybody else. But when we would go look at how which we only did that really whenever we were moving the first time, and we took forever we were an apartment lease was running out and we knew, we you know, we just got married. We needed a home. We didn't want to renew our lease. But like I wasn't about to just pick a house that's the best of the bunch, Like I would have renew the lease for six months before I buy a home that I don't like. We could not

come to an agreement. My wife and I we just were you know, there was houses that she felt she really liked, and I'm like, no, you don't love it. You just want to get out of the apartment, and this is the best option, Like, we don't want to live here. So finally, randomly a house came available and wasn't even on the market like as far as Zillow, but we knew somebody that knew somebody that was putting this house up for sales. So we went and looked at it,

made an offer that night, and we moved in there. And then the next time around, you know, I've mentioned this before, my wife just got a wild hair and decided she was going to look at houses on the internet. She liked one. We bought it the same week, like it's she makes these impulse decisions, and I'm glad she did because I love where we live now. But what I'm getting at is the whole process of

looking at houses. When you like are in somebody's home that lives there and it's not like a new build or they haven't already moved out, and you're like in the room, like knowing it's somebody, I just feel weird, like it makes sense, like knowing they're just not home because they know somebody's walking around their house. Like that's weird to me. And when we were selling our house and we had somebody come and look at it like that.

You know, it's not that I think they're gonna be like a perv or something, and it's not that, you know, I feel like I'm being violated. It's just weird, you know, because if they're gonna buy it, they may be inclined to, you know, really give it a test drive, if you know what I'm saying, right, Like, you know, just open up every door and look under everything. I mean, just you know, so I uh, I don't know if i'd like to. I mean, if it's if it's a celebrity and it's not because it's like

the former Kentucky coach. It could be you know, it could be Chris Mack, which I know him, so that would be even more weird. But just you know, it would take a while for it to wear off. If like I know the person somewhat regular, somewhat well that like used to live for I'm like, well, this is where they used to hang out, Like I don't know, just I'm weird. We've discovered that long ago. When it comes to that, did you guys look a bunch of

houses before you pick yours? We looked at I believe like four or five, So it wasn't too long of a process. Was it like when you knew you knew? Or was it? Yeah? We actually almost bought a house in Bartstown first, but thankfully we did some digging and realized that the area we looked at wasn't a very good area. Like you didn't want to live out there? Yeah? Would you have worked here if you lived all the way out there? That That was my biggest issue with it. I

was like, I don't want to commute for nearly an hour. Yeah, Barstown's a nice area. Yeah, which is crazy because I think Bartstown has been somewhat put on the map nationally because of all the crazy circumstances with Crystal Rogers and Jason Ellis and all that, and but yet it's actually a at one point it's I think during this it's actually been tabbed as like one of the most beautiful small towns in America. Isn't your wife from there? Yes,

she went to high school there. I thought, all right, we'll take a quick break Quebec on the other side, get the five o'clock hour started, chat with our man Jeff Greer, get you some more Derby profiles, and uh, we'll finish strong because it's my last hour of the week here before I get out of here for a long Derby weekend.
