Talk seven nine day. Now here's Nick coffee. All right, ladies and gentlemen, let's get it started. The well, the show started a while ago, but we're starting the five o'clock hour. This is where we mean business. I mean we mean business and do our best all throughout the three
hours of this program. But you know, five o'clock's when you know it's it's when we're coming down the stretch and I like to get everybody caught up who's just now joining in, and also you know, set the table for the final hour here and we're continuing to take in the new era of Louisville basketball with Pat Kelsey hasn't coached a game yet, he's only been here for a week, but he continues to uh to get fans excited in a variety
of ways and Louisville right now. And it's look, it's this is a little I wouldn't say misleading, but you know it's not worth a whole lot as we speak, as most players in the portal haven't picked a school yet. But with the two guys he brought with them from Charleston, Rain Smith, who, of course, I mean he's somebody that you kind of just
not that you forget about him, but he followed. There wasn't there wasn't a race, right, It wasn't like you had to really just kind of, you know, sit back and see who he was going to pick. I think it was pretty obvious when he entered the portal. It was the day that Pat Kelsey was getting the job. So nonetheless, it it's still a good addition. And then you throw in James Scott, the young freshman, and then now Terrence Edwards Junior Fats as they call him, who committed
yesterday. Right now Louisville has the second best portal class, And again I understand, like that's not really worth a whole lot, given how early we are in this process. When's the last time Louisville could reference like a ranking about something and feel good. So I'm not going to knock anybody for really just going above and beyond here when it comes to embracing this new era and the good vibes that have come with it on you know, just a week's
time. So John L. Davis is the transfer we've talked about throughout the show today, somebody who will probably end up at Michigan with Dusty May, but at Louisville, according to On three, is in the mix here and really appears to be in you know, good shape essentially. If it's not Michigan, looks like it's gonna be Louisville. So we'll see what happens. And I don't really think there's any pressure to get him, because again him
following Dusty made of Michigan just seems like the most obvious thing. But as we've mentioned, you know, Michigan is one of those schools that has not been able to really kill it on the portal because they apparently don't have a great nil situation for basketball and it's not an easy school to transfer to. Again, two of the best players in college basketball this last season, Terret
Shannon junior and Caleb Love, both transferred to Michigan and couldn't stay. Caleb Love was this past season, and it was because of an academic thing he couldn't I mean, I think he had his four year degree at at North Carolina, but somehow he couldn't get into like their graduate program or something.
And then Terrence Shannon junior, he transferred to Michigan two years ago and ended up going to Illinois because I don't know if it was an academic thing, if it was money, and I know the money thing is an issue because Michigan could not compete with a bunch of schools who wanted Hunter Dickinson and he was able to go to Kansas and make a lot of money, money that
you know, Michigan couldn't I'm sorry, Yeah, Michigan couldn't match. So it's going to be hectic when it comes to the portal for I think some weeks to come here because Louisville's got a lot of spots to fill and there's countless players available. But the other name that we've talked about here and there, there's no real update, But I know Pat Kelsey was in to see him yesterday, which I think is you know, a good sign making the visit to go see him, and then I'm sure they're hoping to get him
on campus for a visit. That is the Toledo transfer Dante Maddox Junior, who again other schools involved for him are some of the best schools in the country. So I think Trillie Donovan is the one who put it out there that Louisville is is the believed leader for Maddox junior. So good, good momentum, no doubt, some other things that we've brought up here and there because it's breaking. It was breaking news throughout the show. One Eric Musselman.
He's leaving Arkansas. He finally got out of Fayetteville, which has been trying to do for quite some time now, and he landed probably a place where he's really comfortable. LA. He's from the West Coast and us. He's a good job. They're now heading to the Big ten, and he's a good coach. So I'm not trying to do anything to take the shine
on the attention away from our man Pat Kelcey. But I said it over and over throughout the coaching search in even when Louisville was in season still and we knew they were going to make a change, they just hadn't done it yet. I didn't understand how Musselman wasn't like the top guy for just about any job that opened up, because he wanted out clearly. And he's a
hell of a coach as results speak for themselves. And I think there's some off the floor stuff, not to say he's some you know, criminal or a terrible person, but you know, there's some stuff that comes with the Muscleman experience that I guess administrators would want to bring into their university. But USC got them a good coach. So now Arkansas's open. And Arkansas invested
in basketball in a major way when they hired Eric Musselman. I mean, I don't know if they gave him like a huge but they invested in him once he got there, if that makes sense, right, Like you think he had two different contract extensions and raises because he started winning at a high level, brought in great players. They went to the Elite eight twice in
to Sweet sixteen. So Arkansas cares about basketball, and I think they were kind of reminded that they've got a huge fan base that will support it in a major way when there is success. They just went so long without having success. I mean, they were phenomenal in the nineties and then once Richardson moved on, I mean they just they didn't They were not relevant really at
all until Muscot there. So the belief is they're going to go after Chris Beard, and I think that'd be a good fit for them, to be honest with you, all right, it is Coffee and Company. We are fueled by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Don't forget if you sign up for the Refreshment Awards program, you're going to save money every time you get gas and you can have a weekly discount of up to twenty five cents
per gallon, which that adds up. Man, that's a good deal on gas, which, by the way, I feel like every time I go to the pump it gets more expensive. So take advantage. Sign up. You don't have to have a Refreshming Awards membership to take it. To take advantage of all the good food options that they have. But they've got the new hot honey chicken items that just are I mean absolutely delicious. So I've
said it for a while. They there's others that have stepped up their game when it comes to gas station convenience store food, but it's because my friends at Thornton's put the pressure on them. They change the stigma of that stuff and they'll never be able to compete because not many I mean, in fact, nobody can compete with Thornton's. That's how that's how great they are. So we appreciate them, and again sign up to become a member of the
refreshment awards program if you haven't already. All right, so let's switch gears here real quick and go to the nil stuff, because we know louisvell is off to a great start since Pat Kelsey got here. I mean the Rick Keeber campaign where he's gonna put up a million dollars once Louisville raises a million dollars, and I mean that's two million to work with, which for the
most part, I mean, that's that's all. I mean. I don't believe some of the numbers you hear about players as far as what they make, but you got to keep in mind the collective resource is more so to I guess, disperse within your your roster. Right, if you're a big name, like for example, DJ Wagner, he had an NIL deal with Nike, right, I'm not sure if they got a return on that investment.
Might have been a wasted investment if I'm being honest with you. But that has nothing to do with the collective for UK, that's just that's that's a brand, a company that's willing to throw some money at players like Kenny Kenny Payne. I don't know who. It was a lot of his maybe his basketball connections is I don't know who. I guess it couldn't because that
would be against the rules. But Kenny had his own NIL resources to get players like Sky Clark, Trey White, a lot of the freshmen that signed. But a lot of that money didn't come from the collective, So you know, there's other ways to do it. So again, I don't want to act as if when you see these campaigns from different nils, a different schools and you see the amount of money that they've raised and what they have, that's not all the money. So I'm not going to act like Louisville
being in this shape. In this shape means that you know, nobody can compete because again we'll never get full transparency on what kind of money through NIL each program has. But with all that said, clearly Louisville is killing it right now, and I would never indicate that Kentucky doesn't have the resources to compete at the high level when it comes to money. But the optics of their current La Familia in Iile collective, and I know we just talked about
this the other day, might have been yesterday. They're trying to raise a million dollars they have under fifty thousand dollars at forty eighth and forty three dollars right now, which is not good, and it's starting to get some attention
from those who covered Kentucky. Like the Cat's Pause, which is part of twenty four seven Sports, they put together something just kind of highlighting that they announced this initiative and raised over thirty five thousand dollars in the first twenty four hours, which I believe when they launched it they'd yet to, you know, lose to Oakland. I'm trying to see if there's a date on this website, but it doesn't look like there is, at least from what I
can see. But I'm pretty sure this was announced right before NCAA tournament action and they raised a bunch of money then and then since then not much money at all. So yeah, this is from the Cat's Pause, says the Kentucky Law Familiar initiative raised thirty five thousand dollars in the first twenty four hours.
In the nineteen days since there, it tells me how long it's been, so roughly three weeks since then, they've raised less than fifteen thousand dollars, so comparatively speaking, again, this does not mean Louisville has way more money than Kentucky when it comes to nil overall. But Louisville did a campaign that launched I Believe on Monday, and they're already over half of a million dollars from just fans donating money. So the optics of it, again,
it just is it's an odd look. But then again, like Kentucky fans, it's such a weird marriage. Man, it's it's it's a divorce that is inevitable and they just won't pull the trigger and move on. And I kind of get it, because this would not be an easy thing to do in any aspect, even if you had the money, you wouldn't be easy to do. And you got to keep in mind if somebody you if you rely on outside money, meaning not money that's coming from the athletic department,
from like revenue. I'm talking like nil people. Rich folks will give you money to help out if you if they give you a big chunk of money, you know, Let's say say one person gives you twelve million to go towards the third what was it thirty three million or something to get rid of cow. Let's say one person gives you twelve million. That's not a good thing for you. It's nice that somebody has that money to give you that, to give you that and help you out, But that person that gave
you twelve million, they're going to think that they're entitled. I mean, it's just a It's not an ideal situation in any aspect, but it also is something that I feel like a lot of people just believe should happen, because again, it ain't working. Cal doesn't seem to like it there, he doesn't seem to like his fan base. I don't believe he's truly going to change like he says he was going to. And Kentucky fans they're gonna still support and want it to work out, but like they're over this dude.
And yet Cal won't leave because he's making too much money. He's too stubborn. And with UK and Mitch Barnhart, I mean, I just I think the belief that I'm just just my gut feeling. As far as Barnhart, I think he knows Cal is undefeated in the offseason, never lost wins the off season. Every year, he will gas up his team, He'll add some guys. He's got good freshmen coming in already, I'm sure he'll do. He'll hit some guys in the portal and he's built for next year,
Yeah, exactly. And then they'll they'll put you know, there'll be some videos of these freshmen dunking in an empty gym with their shirts off, and it'll be shared millions of times in Kentucky will claim, oh man, we're gonna be and I'm not. I mean, yes, I'm kind of mocking you, but like I get it, what are you gonna do not
want your team to be good? So I think with Mitch looked, the best, you know, the best scenario is to just ride it out, avoid paying thirty three million, avoid trying to get a coach that could match the you know, match count. I mean, look the easy, the obvious statement from fans who want Caliperry gone when they are asked who you want him to go get and they'll say this, anybody that can beat Saint Peter's
in Oakland, And I get it, and you're right. But then again, like Cal also has in those two seasons where you got bounced and embarrassed and those look, this is what makes college basketball crazy. That matters more than anything but it wasn't as if you missed the tournament because you had an awful year. You had a two seed in the three seed. In those
years, the years weren't bad. In fact, even though Kentucky has really high standards, I have a hard time thinking that a two seed and the three seed would be viewed as a regular season that was anything but successful.
So I think it's you know, I think Mitch knows they're going to win the offseason again and fans will get excited, and then you just hold out hope and maybe once again you're holding out hope until March, because again this past year, they had some rocky stretches, right, I mean, they really didn't turn it on until at the beginning of February and looked like they could potentially miss the tournament just because they weren't beating any of the good teams
they were playing. And then they turned around and got a three seed. So I get it when it comes to like the risk assessment, it's probably the wise move for Barnhart. But either way, like Kentucky fans, I just think they have hit a level of like at least right now, and again I have a hard time thinking they won't buy in and think they're going to be great again next year, but right now they're just kind of like they're over it. So this cat's pause post about the thirty five thousand dollars
raised nineteen days ago and now only fifteen thousand rays since then. Here are
some of the comments. It's from Scott lat Familia doesn't hang banners, pretty simple, Ladies of BBN, which, by the way, totally a dude running that account all right right, like Ladies of BBN if you go to the Twitter account at Kentucky Hot. I don't know if he still does it, but at one point, like it's just a bunch of like hot girls that are Kentucky fans wearing UK stuff nice And I think at one point like admitted it was a dude and like didn't have the self awareness to realize you
look like the ultimate like horny dude online. Wow. But yeah, it says, which which doesn't make sense. Rather or not someone likes cal we should all still want to be in the best position to get the best players. What's wrong with them? Hashtag BBN And that's where I think you kind of feel helpless because if he's the coach, what are you gonna do not cheer for your team? No, like Kentucky fans, I think feel helpless right now when it comes to basketball because of that. They're not going to
not root for cal in the team because it would be unnatural. But I think you've you've never been this low as far as just thinking there's going to be a big breakthrough to get back to the early days of Caliperry. Let me see here are some uh see if I can find some more of these, more of these comments here, this is uh let's see, Well I just had him pulled up here. Let's see, there were some good ones
and I should have favored them on the platform. Here it says when you have the best players in lose in the first round, people tend to lose hope. Yes, like money is here to buy players. Well, Cali Perry had some really good players this year and they lost to Oakland. So again it's like, why would I invest money whenever he already gets great players without my money. He's gonna get great players, and I'm gonna be let down again. This is a great one from Aaron. He says, I
missed the old days when people cheated behind closed doors. Like real Americans. This is from Allen. I don't think Cal really understands how angry fans are. Rick says, losing to Oakland will do that. Don't you think, Matt says, making zero changes in the staff and fans are beyond tired of the piss poor performances for a nine million dollar a year coach, don't see this getting anywhere. Not to mention to me, Nil isn't let's see who
can pay the most for players. It's ruining. Well, I think he just kind of like blocked out a little bit and just started hitting buttons on his phone because it really went off to deep end there on that tweet. Let's see. And then there's a lot of people, like a lot of lovel fans commenting about how their their match program right now is like killing it,
which is true. Let's see, let's see a lot of people just expressing their their disliking of Nil. This is from Antoine, who says he's going to send all his NIL contributions to the women's basketball team and not to cal h. This is from Travis. If Cal would have let have would have got let go, it would have raised so much more. And that's I think that's probably the truth, isn't it. Wow, Like, I
mean, crazy thing to think about. I mean, Cal's clearly a really good coach that you know, from from a longevity standpoint, He's had a good careers in the Hall of Fame. Like I know, in the rivalry, we like to clown him, and I love being able to because now, I mean, it's not a rivalry thing whenever you mentioned their embarrassments in the tournament, because it's a nationally known thing that they've lost to those two teams in the last three years and they've just clearly slipped a little bit.
But overall, like the guy's still a good coach that I'd say down the line, many years from now, he'll still be remembered as one of the
best that ever coached. Certainly not the best or even in that top elite tier, but you know, something new, like let's say Kentucky went out, Like if they would have got Scott Drew, I don't know if he's a guy that really, you know, would mean he's kind of I don't know, he's kind of Mitch Barnhardt, right, Like Scott Drew would have just been an extension of their athletic director, which last I checked, you
know, has never ever seemed to be energized in any way. So I'm just trying to think of a coach that would have been a higher that they would have, that they would have been excited about. Like maybe it's Will Wade. I don't know enough about his personality, but if they could have hired somebody that because again I'm aware Kentucky would never go to the mid major
oute like little did trust me. I know that. But let's just say there's a coach that exists out there that it was at a Power six program, that was at a good job having success. Chris Beard. We'll say Chris Beard. Let's use Chris Beard and act like he didn't, you know, get arrested in Austin if he gave some passionate plead to the state about nil the way Pat Kelsey has with the five or two circle. You know how much money they would have raised. I mean, I don't know what
it would have been. I mean, maybe it would have been more than Loisll, maybe it'd have been right on par. But like they would have had because again, there's something about just it being new and a new in that excitement and also just understanding that this is now an important thing. You have to have a collective that has a lot of money to share. You're
not going to get really good players. But what makes it, I think even harder for callous that there's never a scenario where Cali Perry could look at his fans and act as if you got to give more money because I need better players. Dude, you have NBA players. I mean, it's insane the amount of NBA players the Cali Perry has had at Kentucky. So even when he lose, I'd say maybe three times has he lost in the tournament? In it been because what are you gonna do? You just don't have
you don't you know, you couldn't compete. Well, you could compete, but you know, like for example, when Kimba Walker beat them in the final four in twenty eleven, like that was Kimba's tournament man. Nobody was stopping him. But when they lost with John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins to West Virginia, that went a talent thing. Kentucky was way more loaded than West
Virginia, not even close. Wisconsin really good Wisconsin team, but you know there's dudes on the bench for Kentucky that are NBA All Stars right now, Auburn in the tournament, Kansas State once in the tournament. Actually think when they lost to Kansas State last year, those mean as drum Tank said, they got dudes. They lost to Kansas State a couple of times. Yeah.
So the one that they lost to in the sweet sixteen, that was when Sister Jean she wrecked the party and that bracket opened up to where Kentucky had their easiest draw because it ended up being actually, no, it wasn't I think sister yeah, Sister Jen and Loyola was in that same bracket. But what had happened was Kansas State ended up having to play UNBC because Virginia
lost to them, and then Kansas State gets to the sweet sixteen. Not a good Bruce Weber Kansas State team, and Kentucky chokes in that game. Forgot about so when it comes to just like you know, hey, man, we got to get nil because man, our team needs players, and you know, the coaches can't pay for them, the school can't pay for them, so we got to do our part. I do understand at least some of the Kentucky fans saying like why why would we waste money. We're
gonna get players regardless, and he's just he's gonna let us down. So anyways, let's take a quick break. We'll come back on the other side. Keep this thing rolling along. A lot more to get into before we say goodbye. So stick around right here on Sports Talk seven ninety from the Fox Sports Studios in Los Angeles. Here's getting ready for a big Final Four weekend and the men's and women's tournaments. News from women's basketball as LSU guard
Hayley Van Lyth has entered the transfer portal. It's the second straight year she's in the portal. Last year she transferred from Louisville to LSU. Now she's looking for another school to play with. Van Liz, by the way, did not enter her name in the WNBA draft for the twenty twenty four selection process. Erica Musselman is leaving Arkansas to be the new men's basketball coach at USC while in the NBA, Julius Randall will not return from his shoulder injury
this season for the next. He's set to undergo season ending surgery and will need five months of rehab. The Tigers beat the Mets six to three, in game one of a double header today in Queens, New York. Has started the year zero to five, Tigers in the eleven inning win improved to five and oh they are playing game two of a doubleheader as we speak. The Texans redid the contract of wide receiver Stefan Diggs, making him a free
agent at the end of the twenty twenty four season. Broadcasting from the Tri County board dot Com studios, this is Sports Talk seven nine Day now back to coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. I think I just beat the buzzer, didn't I, Austin. I didn't walk back here in the room until like right as soon as the uh yeah, right, as soon as the break was in it as soon as it
happened. So this is silly, but I'm just going to share with you because the reason I was out of the studio the entire commercial break is because I was chatting with, you know, the colleagues, the other professionals here, they're the real professionals, actually, Ian Vertrees, who's doing this thing over on eight forty whas with Terry Miners, you know, like Paul Miles. I mean the hardest working man in show business who's sharing the news like
no one else can. But we were just shooting that, you know what about Louisville basketball and you know what's going on. Obviously they're doing their show. I'm doing mine. So it's been a long time since, you know, we just would chat about Louisville stuff. And it's about good stuff so as far as bad. So, uh, yeah, it's exciting times, no doubt, all right, so the uh, let me just make sure I've got that. Yeah. So this is something that I didn't really given
much thought, but I feel like the ANSWER's got to be yes. For the person who asked this question on the text line. Is Tyler Shuck the transfer quarterback for Jeff brom who started his career at Oregon, they end up
at Texas Tech and is now here at Louisville. Is he the oldest football player at ever played for Louisville. I doubt he's the oldest football player to ever played, but I cannot imagine there's been other quarterbacks for Louisville that have you know, I mean, and I think the belief is that he's going to be your guy this year, probably start and hopefully he really really thrives when when healthy and playing for a guy like Jeff Brom. But I think
he's going to be twenty six this year. Like there's no scenario we've had a starting quarterback that old, right, I mean, I can't remember, I don't know who. I mean, that's almost unheard of nowadays, though you can get COVID really made it to where, I mean, got an extra year, So you've got like it's not even that. Ten years ago, being a sixth year senior was unheard of, Like it was extremely rare. Now it's not that rare at all, to be honest with you,
like it it's not super common. But you know guys who got injured or you know, maybe they only played very little, like for example, JJ trainor he's been at Louisville four years, he has two years of eligibility left. He got hurt this year, and I think he's got to go through the waiver process, but he'll get it because he didn't play much. He'll get a fifth year for the red shirt, and he'll get a sixth year because of COVID. So, like, you know, guys can do that.
So that would make you if you come out of high school at eighteen, That puts you, what twenty four? So I don't know what is I mean this will let me just make sure. So the reason this has come up is because Tyler Shuck. Of course again, you know, he's the quarterback and spring ball's going on, but he's getting married this weekend and it's during spring practice, so like he's going to be I think they have the Saturday off they already did on the schedule. But this is a This
is from Jody Dimling's article at Cardinal Authority. Let's see, I'm trying to find the quote here, because yeah, we already told the coaches, I guess talking about his wedding. We already told the coaches, hey, we have this little thing. We told them we could move it, but we definitely didn't want to. And it worked out great because we were going to have a Saturday off during springball. Of course I didn't want to miss any
time. But you only get married once, I hope you can. Hope hope you mean that, young man, because unfortunately a lot of people don't get married once. They get married a lot more than once, you know, or maybe they don't get married at all. So congrats to you and your fiance who you know, are getting married. I think her name is Jordan, and you know, hopefully you guys have a long and happy life, and hopefully your first year marriage is memorable, not only because you guys
are together and you're you know, you're the first year. It's the honeymoon, right, but hopefully the honeymoon is a memory. And I don't mean like the trip. I mean the honeymoon early stages. It's not just great and memorable because your love birds and you're starting your life together with the rings on the fingers, but it's also because you're lighting up the scoreboard for Jeff
Brom. I mean, I hope that that's but it is funny though, like there are people commenting on this like not a good look, that this is his priority during and I like, I don't think people who say that
are lunatics, because again, getting married is a big deal. But you know, I just doing this whatever you want to call this, yap in my trap for three hours a day, and you know, being somebody that does cover you know, college sports to some extent, now, I've learned to humanize and I'm glad I have that ability to and that's not like I have some ability that nobody else has, but like you know, being around
some of the coaches and stuff over the years. Not to say we're all close personal friends or anything like that, but like, you you know, wrong with this dude gett married. He's not doing it on a Saturday when we play Kentucky. He's doing it, you know, in the spring, which a lot of people get married in the spring. So as to him.
But to answer your question on the text line, I would imagine, I would imagine that he probably is the oldest quarterback we've ever had here, But I you know, I could be wrong, and I'll double check on the age. He's either gonna be twenty six or he's gonna be twenty seven this year, I think, or maybe maybe he's like twenty five. Either way, it's still on the older side. But uh yeah, congratulations to those two love birds. When I was twenty six, I was working at
UPS for like my fifth year. Let's talk about that. So there's a new trend on TikTok where there's a two picture TikTok if that makes sense where it you know, you've got to swipe to the right to see the But people are showing pictures of their parents getting married at like twenty one and twenty and then you know, a swipe left here, I am opening my Easter basket at thirty one years old at my mom's house, Like, what do you I mean, I don't think there's any right or wrong way to do
it. It's really just personal preference. But clearly the previous era, you know, folks that are kind of old enough to be like our parents, it was much more of a normal thing to get married and have kids, you know, really young, like early twenties, and I don't know what led to that not being as common, But again, you know, I don't think it's a good or bad thing. I think it's just whatever people prefer. Like I got married when I was. I got married in twenty
eleven, so I guess I was. I guess I was twenty one. A way I was older than that. Wasn't I twenty one? No, let's see here, I'm thirty five now, two thousand and two, yeah, so thirteen years ago. So yeah, roughly around that age. And I didn't feel that young, but I was young to get married. I mean I've been married for you know, coming up in young Yeah, well, thank you appreciate that. I'm not old, but I'm not young.
Here's the thing. I think having two children, one that is eight, another that is three, being married for thirteen years coming up, this may like that's not young. But I'm also not fifty. I'm thirty five. Yeah, so I don't know, Like I guess, I was still part of that older generation that did it at a younger at a younger age.
And I wouldn't I wouldn't trade a thing. But you know, if I was thirty four, thirty three and I was single with no kids, lived on my own, but I had kind of the same life and career, you know, outside the family stuff. I mean, I think that would be considered to be right. I mean, to me, I think nowadays that's not uncommon, you know what I mean, Like, how old are
you now? Thirty about to be thirty one this year, and you've got you're in a serious relationship now, so you know, congratulations to you. I've been out of the dating game. In fact, I don't know if everyone's ever really in it. And you know, I've been with my wife since we were fresh out of high school. Yeah, so I mean, I wouldn't understand anything about dating this day and age. But not not only do I do. I appreciate my wife and the life we have together.
I couldn't imagine it without her. But seeing some of these numbers in this Daily Mail article about like dating right now, like it makes me even more so appreciate that I found somebody that puts up with me and you know, feeds me, and you know, takes care of me, and she's the adult in the relationship. You imagine a young nick coffee on like dating sites or hinge or hinge is hinge for like? Is that for no hinges? What I met on my significant when a tender is much like the hookup culture.
I mean, I guess all of them sort of. All I thought hinge was for the other side. Now the hinges, the it's it's the app meant to be deleted. I don't know if you've ever seen where they had a little fuzzy h and then like blows up, like every time it shows, like the little people matching and getting together and the little hinge thing is saying goodbye and it blows it's it's that's it's brilliant marketing. You know what I was thinking hinge was, what's that grinder? Not the same thing,
right, No, No, grinder. I guess grinder and tender can sort of kind of be this, but grinder just depending upon what you're looking for, yeah, right, which you know, your preference you're putting from
that side of the green, you know. But this this says this is the article said, there's there's a delusional calculator that I don't know how they put it together, but it kind of tracks when you put out what you're Yeah, it's your preference calculator, and it just tells you how insanely hard it would be to find exactly what you're looking for, which I'm not sure anybody ever finds exactly what they're looking for. They find it and realize,
oh, this is exactly what I needed, and this is perfect. But it reveals how picky people are. So let me just give you a quick example before we get to a break. So let's say you're a dude and you want to you know, and you you're in your late twenties or something twenty twenty six, twenty seven. Let's say you want a data woman between the ages of twenty five and thirty five who does not smoke, she's not obese, is at least five feet tall, has a decent salary of fifty
thousand dollars at minimum, is college educated. Once kids, you were looking at a zero point six eight percent chance of finding that person because there's you know, not as many women out there that are that fit that stand. And again, what really made me go there is that I feel like that's
a very normal thing. Like I don't know about the money thing or the height, but like what was described there, like that's not I think that's a pretty base level as far as what you you know, everybody has their own preferences, but you know that age range, doesn't smoke, is not obese. That's not saying they're in super great shape, but like obese is a different level. And then you know college educated. You know, I don't know why people would care about that other than you know, if somebody
got a good job, good career. I'm not I wouldn't be worried about that. But you know, I'm not trying to scare those in their late twenties and thirties as far as finding somebody, but man, like I would not want to be out there right now one because, like I wouldn't even I wouldn't know how to talk to a woman. Wow, other than like, hey, hello, you listen to sports radio. We think about Pat Kelsey? Yeah, what do you think about pack? That'd be my go
to line on a first date. How about that Pat Kelsey guy? What do you think of him? So I consider us both lucky. We have found someone to share a life with and we don't have to worry about it. But man, as you know, maybe this is just a reminder of people that they should potentially, you know, not really have such an identified standard and maybe just kind of, you know, go with the flow. You may meet yeah when you get especially on those dating sites, And what
I've learned is you just you listen. You're already just kind of on the I wouldn't say desperate side, but you're there for a reason. Anyway, Those things cannot be good for mental health. I mean they really aren't, trust me, I swear they can't be. You just got to find your person and see how you connect. Then you just can't be picky picky picky before you even try out the menu. You know, did this just turned into the Doctor Phil Show? I think they just did good stuff. Some
single people out there listening and they're not losing hope right now. Yeah, you'll find somebody, you'll find your super Just let it happen, right, Don't be so specific about what you want, just kind of, you know, go with the flow. You may meet somebody and say, man, this isn't this isn't what I thought I wanted, But man, this is what I need and it's gonna be great. Have fun and hang out.
That's right, quick break, we'll come back and basically say goodbye. Actually we're gonna have more time than we usually do, so let's take with us
right here. On Sports Talk seven ninety how back to Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's On Sports Talk seven nine day, we were talking about how Louisville quarterback Tyler Shuck is just going to be a lot older than the majority of the In fact, I'd be willing to bet you probably won't see a guy on the field for Louisville or any of the opponents this year that'll be older than him. And I don't bring it up to be critical. It's just you know, it's it's rare, but also his age is rare to
be that old. But you can this may end at some point as far as you know, people being able to take advantage of a fifth or sixth year because of COVID or an injury. I mean, I guess the injury situation could happen. But if you look at the amount of players in the in the final I mean, right now, I'm just let me find this this breakdown because this probably won't surprise you, but right now, the starting five for the final four teams, there are twelve seniors, six sophomores,
one junior, one freshman. So college basketball players are sticking around in college basketball more because of nil and it's not just because they're holding off on the NBA or they're not NBA prospects. You gotta keep in mind there were dudes who'd play college basketball that knew they weren't going to the NBA, but they'd leave after two years because they wanted to start making money overseas or somewhere.
Because you know, the longer you stay in college not making money, I mean that's four years potentially that you are going unpaid when you could be earning a living to kind of start your next life after basketball, right what a lot of us do for a job we can do it till we're older, a lot older. You're a basketball player, an athlete like father, Tom's going to get you at some point. So yeah, just Pat Kelsey.
I would imagine there's gonna be a lot of guys that he adds on this roster, and there's a lot of spots that he still has to fill. And I think a lot of them will be guys who've been in college a few years and maybe they never would sniff the NBA draft or anything like that, but they're good players, and you know you can win with those guys. I mean, look at the tournament. I mean Mark sear is the best player for Alabama transferred started his career I'm not even sure where, very
low level school. The other really good player for BAM Mcgrant Nelson, he transferred from I believe SAA South Dakota State. Maybe we all know DJ Burns, but did you know he started at Tennessee then went to Winthrop. I mean, so there's gonna be guys that you're not that familiar with, and maybe their numbers aren't going to really jump out at you, and they played at a lower level, but it does not mean it can't work. Out in a major way. All right, you want that N I T action,
and I don't you. I can tell everybody's been listening all three hours here, just waiting for me to give you the N I T. And I play tonight, and I'm gonna give it to you because right now, I mean, this Seaton Hall team, they're getting disrespected. I'm taking Seaton Hall plus two and a half. Have everybody's all over like our buddy Billy
all you know, cream cream Abdul Jabbar. Yeah, I mean, look, he's he's a good player, but you know, people are falling falling in love with the gimmick of him just being you know, a good player that has an interesting look compared to other college basketball players. And I give and he has a lot of credit. They're a good team. But man, this Seaton Hall team they got some dogs. People forget that they actually or one of the two teams that beat Yukon this year. Three teams to
beat them, and they beat them bad. So the trio for Seton Hall, Kadari Richmond, Ray Davis, Alamir Dawes. I mean these guys are all averaging fifteen points or more per game. And I think Sheen Holloway is going to thrive as an underdog, and he knows they're underdogs. They're actually on the road. This game is played up at Hinkle, So Indiana State fans this is a huge deal to them because this winning the NI t for
them. Would it not be the biggest accomplishment for Indiana State's program since Larry Bird played there? Has to be right, so you know they're gonna be a lot of fans there. But I think overall, Seton Hall's just talented dogs defensively, and I look, I'm not even saying that Indiana State being favorite is out of line. I just really like the spot that Seton Hall's in here because again their trio that I mentioned former Louisville player Drey Davis being
one of them, Like they're all playing really really well. I know Evansville and not Evansville. Indiana State is going to score some points. They're really good offensively, but I think Seaton Hall's team knows that that's the challenge and they're gonna they're gonna thrive. I mean, maybe an ugly slowed down game compared to what you've previously seen with Indiana State throughout the tournament and the n I T, I should say, but yeah, I like it a lot.
So Seaton Hall plus two and a half and we'll see, we'll see what ends up happening. But it is crazy because Indiana State's coach was offered this job and he couldn't take it because of the situation where he's already signed with Saint Louis. But he would I mean, he clearly agreed to still coach Indiana State and the n I T despite you know, him clearly leaving. It's not public, but like everybody knows, but what he had done
that if Louisville offered like they wouldn't have been able to tell him. I mean, I don't know what they told him, but again, he had the job, was his to turn down, meaning he had an offer, So I'm curious did they all There's no way they would have allowed him to do what Saint Louis is allowing, right because you know, imagine not having
this week. And it's not just because Pat Kelcey and the early results in regards to like the players that he's added to from Charleston and the and obviously Fats who committed yesterday, but think about the week and the money that has been raised with n IL like you know, not to say another coach wouldn't be able to maybe do something similar, but it would have been late all
things considered. So anyways, we're out of time. Everybody, enjoy your night, Austin, have fun in Philly, give him hell at WrestleMania. And thanks for having me on this week. Ye it was a great time. You did a great job and I'm sure we'll be back doing it again. Let's do it. Take care everybody,
