It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now, here's nick coffee. All right, let's rock and roll hour number three, the five o'clock hour. If you were joining, if you were listening at the end of the four o'clock hour, I'm just kind of blacking out a little bit and not even sure what words are coming out of my mouth, because that's what the I mean, that's what the intoxication has done to me. And the intoxication is that of the Pat Kelsey momentum.
Here as today, Honestly, Phil, today's the first day for me where I have I have truly, you know, felt something internally as a fan that I really forgot about. Because the vibes have been good since the guy was hired. We could tell right away he's somebody that you know is going to succeed here. He will die trying, he's not going to be
outworked. He value he values what this is. And you know it's not somebody that you know you had to beg to come here, right So and again, because he showed us quite clearly in his introduction to us, I guess our introduction to him. It is press conference. I mean he could sell, and so far he's been doing a pretty good job selling what he can do for players, the type of program he wants to run, the
style of play they're going to play. And you know, obviously Louisville, right, he's been doing that pretty successfully at Charleston and at Winthrop, and no disrespect to those universities, but louis is different, and Louis's got resources, and in ile resources are very important and Louisville has those. Pat Kelsey has those at his disposal and it's it's paying off so far. So not to get the five o'clock hour started, you know, with the exact same
thing we've talked about for a good majority of the show. But it's you know, it is what it is. So again, it is coffee and company and we are fueled by Thornton's. Make sure you guys sign up to become a member of the Thornton's Refreshman Awards program. If you haven't already,
you can do it at refreshing Awards dot com or download the app. It's free and you'll save money at the gas pump and take advantage of all the great perks that come with being a member of the Thornton's Refreshing Awards program. All right, so we'll get to some NFL Draft stuff coming up here a little bit later on, because I want to take a look back at some of the crazy things that have played out on Night one of the NFL Draft,
And for example, the grass mask. If you remember Laromy Tunsel, you know, somebody hacking his Twitter account during the draft as he's sitting there in the green room and you know it's him with a you know, a gas mask, but you know, just marijuana smoke in it, which you know, this day and age like with that, I mean, still gonna be a bad look as that's happening while you're being drafted. But also you know, marijuana even that you know, four or five years ago whenever that
was, it's not looked at now like it was then. But the NFL Draft has given us with the power of social media and uh, you know all the things that come with the draft, we've had some really you know, surprising moments that I think a lot of people have probably forgot about. So we'll get to that coming up a little bit later on, but let's dive right back in here. So the the big news today, and it's not you know, I think it's is it? Is it okay to call
it big news John that I think everybody all think big development. Yes, that's right. He's the brains of the operation here. That's the company man, mister John Alden. Talk nice to him. He it's developed the the development here with Jaden Quaintance's recruitment. Because within a week, just keep in mind, a week ago, I guess on Friday. Was it Friday or Thursday? I know, I think yes, a week ago today, I think he got here. And then his visit was really just Friday. I
don't know if he left Friday night or Saturday morning. But at that time you just felt like you're in a good place because, hey, his first visit is to Louisville and doesn't mean they're gonna get him. Maybe it's just because they know Louisville apparently has money. Maybe you know who knows. But the visit goes well, and then I just expected him to probably end up at Arkansas. Well, we find out earlier this week Arkansas they're not in
consideration. He will not follow Caliperry there. That was the biggest stunner of this entire thing I thought, just because this is Cal's top freshman that he had coming into Kentucky. He's never gonna not build a roster, not with all top freshmen, but he'll build. He's going to continue to try to build a deep class, meaning he's not going to only take three freshmen because
he wants transfers. He's going to take as many great freshmen as he can get, regardless of you know, their ability to impact the game being lacking in recent years. So there's no chance. I believe that Arkansas pulled out and Cal didn't want this guy for whatever reason. He didn't want to follow Cal. There don't know why. So then Memphis they enter the picture. They're going to get a visit. Well, then we find out earlier today
that that visit is canceled. He's not going there. And I do believe those on the Memphis side, those that cover Memphis basketball, that were initially saying it was postponed, they are now within the last hour or so claiming that it is canceled. And you know, there's no there's no visits, there's no visit schedule for him moving forward. Now maybe that changes, but
you know that that's a big development. Because that leaves Louisville, and then you have folks that cover college basketball rivals, twenty for seven Sports and Trillly Donovan, which I just still feel silly saying that name is somebody worth citing, but I think we have to. He has proven to be somebody that is very well connected. And there's a part of me that has always thought,
well, you know, he can be wrong. He can he can say whatever, and it won't come back to him because it's a persona you know, clearly there's a real person running the Trillly Donovan discord and his social media accounts. But you know the real you know shame that you'd get if you you know, show a lack of journalistic integrity or getting something completely wrong or troll like whatever may be. Like, it's not going to hit the same as if it's somebody that everybody knows that you know, they work,
they work for this company, this and that. So again it still feels weird, But I think Trilli Donovan's brand is now and it's a brand that's booming. He has thousands upon thousands of people that sign up to pay, I mean they pay to sign up to be in the discord. That he has, which is like a forum based kind of thing. You said it best the other day. What's the best way to describe it, like it's I said a few different things. No, I said a chat room.
I don't remember exactly what we what we landed on. I've never used discord for anything, but I've downloaded it and I've been to the dark side, which is which is not the dark side, but I kind of feel like it's like dark Web. It's like we're going to the dark web to get really good inside info that really isn't anywhere else. So, you know, either way, he now is clearly going to try to maintain credibility because it's benefiting him. He's making I would imagine a lot of money from this.
So if he starts just you know, getting stuff wrong and saying stuff just to you know, generate attention, it would quickly turn to where people would say, Okay, this guy, you know, he's just this is just a stunt, right, He's he's just guessing. So the fact that he now claims that Jaden Quaints is going to come to Louisville, not saying it's done, it's but he that's his prediction. I mean that means something to
me. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my end here, I am, you know, a person that goes by the name of Triuie Donovan, who nobody knows who he is. The fact that him predicting something has me this excited. Maybe it is a little bit of a reach, but that's where I'm at as a Louisville basketball fan that has been desperate to be this excited, to have genuine hope. It feels great. So who knows. Maybe they don't get maybe they don't get Jaden Quayens, but if they do, that's
a big deal. And the player that they landed earlier today, I kind of you know, I hate this for for the young from Long Beach State who goes back Cater tray Ora and I need to figure out if it's tray Or or tray Ora. So I've heard it pronounced before, not his specific name, but the same last name, and I've heard it as Trayore. Yeah, I got to look at the there's a good way to find out here. Yeah, So you know that I'm gonna make myself sound even dumber
than I usually sound here. But you know that thing that's like at the top of at the top of letters and you know an accent mark. Yeah, like that, wouldn't that be where it's a tray ora instead of a tray or depending on where it's at, Yeah yeah, if it's on the last e, then it would be tra a. Well it's not there, is it anywhere? No, then it might be, but it could just be the you know, like not every not every like that wouldn't show up
on some on some like web pages. That's true just because of you know, content managed like the CMS, the content management system they're using, whatever they're publishing in like you know, for example, you could see a Google search that would show that would show that would not show it. Then you
clear on the actual story and it could be there. So either way, cater Tree or is what I'm gonna call him until I find out that's not his name, and then I'm gonna tell I'm gonna call him whatever he wants to be called. Because this guy is special. And again, anytime I start talking about this guy, it's not just what I'm saying, it's how I'm saying it that makes me appear as if I'm describing a player that was
created in a video game. But this I'll put it this way. As much as I do think he's really really talented in a good get for Louisville. More than anything, he's I mean, he's just rare six foot five, but he averaged twelve points, eight point three rebounds, and four and a half assists per game to go along with a steal and a half and a block and a half per game. I thought, just looking at his numbers as far as blocks and rebounds and link that that he's a big but
he's really not. I mean, I don't know what position you would play him at, but he's an above the rim kind of guy, freak athlete. Non his motor doesn't stop. Built like a I mean, he's shacked, looks like a linebacker. So great addition, and I hate that the news of Quaintance has kind of overshadowed that a little bit. I don't think anybody's doing anything other than celebrating this, this edition of Trey Or. But you know, there's just something about a five star phenom freshman that even if
you get a transfer that's proven to be really good. I think you know, if you get a top five freshman and a top five transfer, clearly you're getting a better player with the transfer, and fans would be to you know, would be excited. But I think the intrigue of the unknown because you've never seen what this five star phenom could do with the next level.
There's a different level of celebrating, if that makes sense. So the potential edition of Quaintance would be I mean, it would be a real big statement by Pat Kelsey in his you know, first month on the job here at Louisville to Trey or tray or if you guys will let me nerd out a little bit on some numbers here and again. These are numbers courtesy of the Best Wager on Twitter, a really good follow for sports betting stuff analytics.
If you really like to be a basketball nerd like I like to be at times, this just really, I think puts in perspective of just how rare this young man is. So at six foot five, he led the country in block percentage for players that were six foot five or shorter, Like, nobody blocked more shots than this guy that was six y five or shorter. Only five guys had more dunks that were six' five or shorter, and
only ten players that were six five or shorter had more offensive rebounds. So he plays extremely big for his size, can go above the rim, and I wouldn't be shocked if he's one of the guys that next year. Just maybe doesn't lead you in any particular stat but he might play more minutes than anybody. So a really good addition that came out earlier today from Long Beach
State. And then who knows, maybe we're on watch now for for Chucky Hepburn, the Wisconsin transfer who hit the portal I think about a week ago, and at that point all sides pointed to Louisville being the destination and I really didn't, you know. I was happy to hear that, but I didn't really know why. I didn't know if you know, there was any connection, and I still don't. But you know, last night, whenever Ty Spaulding of Rivals broke the news that he was on his way to Louisville
for an official visit, you know, that made it real. And he's visiting right now. I've not even heard of another school involved with him, to be honest with you. And he's a really good point guard, a guy that can run your team. Has been productive at Wisconsin for the last couple of years. Took a little bit of a light not a lighter role, but just didn't score as many points last year because aj Stores for Wisconsin
became you know, the man he ended up transferring to Kansas. So this is somebody you know, he's again he can run your team, but I feel like having a point guard that can really set the tone for you defensively is is crucial, and especially for you know, Pat Kelsey style that if you go back and look at you know, his his teams at Winthrop and and Charleston, you know they were they were mostly you know, where they
really excelled was offensively. You know, not to say they were all terrible defensive teams, but they were a much better offensive team in every way than they were defense. And that probably will be the case here at Louisville for him, because I can't see him doing a whole lot to change that. It's not that they're not going to try to play defense, but you know, if you can outscore a lot of teams and your defense is good enough,
maybe not elite, then you could be a pretty good team. So a lot of things developing in the last really since I mean since he since he got hired. Honestly, I mean you landed Terrence Edward Junior pretty early in the process. We had him on the show earlier this week, if you guys want to go out and check if you want to check out the podcast for those that missed that interview. But they had a bunch of visitors on campus two weeks ago, I think it was, and that was really
the first big weekend for Pat Kelsey. And then he followed that up with another round of visitors this past weekend, and there'll be more visitors on campus next week. So you know that that here has been the I think most here has been the biggest tell as far as a potential commitment coming from a transfer a guy that visits, the visit appears to go, well, you don't hear of any other visits scheduled, or you don't hear of any other
visits you know, actually happening. And at that point, I think you could be on watch where you just kind of sit back and you know, you wait and see doesn't happen, and it has it has happened. Oh wow, is this I missed this? Now I feel like I'm maybe getting God or maybe I'm you know, just Okay, it's happening, and I'm late to this. This happened, you know, ten minutes ago, roughly actually longer than that. CHUCKI Hepburn He's committed to Louisville. It's happened.
Thank you for those that sent that to me on Twitter. I mean, I've been refreshing like crazy, trying to see if, you know, if, if, if we'd get some news to pop, and sure enough we did. Chucky Hepburn has committed to Louisville. Looks like that was broke by Sham's Cherania. So here we go, another one in the mix for Pat Kelsey. You want to get nuts, Let's get nuts, folks. This
is uh. Let me just let me just collect my thoughts here really quickly, because you know nothing, there's nothing to add that I haven't already said. Now, it's just real that Chucky Hepburn is is coming to Louisville. But I think now you've got a really good foundation. I mean, if you just go look at the guys that they've added right now, You've got Terrence Edwards, Junior, Ali Khalifa Hadley from UH or yeah, from Colorado. You throw in Carn Johnson, Hepburn of course recently, or I feel
like I'm missing one of them. So again, you're not, you know, you're you're not, You're not done yet. But all those pieces up to this point, I mean I call it the foundation, but like maybe you know, when I say foundation, I'm more so mean that it's you know, like that that's your core and you're just gonna go add some role players. But I mean, you know, you still have some room to
go add some really good players in the portal. I mean, I don't think there's been anything that's happened up to this point that would, you know, make the visit for Osciborn next week. Not happened. Now, maybe he commits to Kentucky when he visits there first. But this is exciting. John. I'm trying, you know, I'm trying to be professional here.
I'm not. You know, if I wasn't on the radio, it wasn't as if I'd be you know, running around ripping my clothes off, you know, running down town Louisville naked, you know, because it's not it's not to that level. But I'll just ask this go back to when Pat
Kelsey took the job. If you knew then that nobody would be back, like you'd have nobody back from last year's team, wouldn't you say at this point, knowing what you know now, that like he's exceeded expectations by a long shot, because I feel like if he just had a few players at this point and they were good players, you'd still have people, you know, worried and wondering, you know, what's going on, because you're gonna always have that. But also, I mean that would be understandable. All
right, let's let's do this. Let me tell you guys about the fine folks at Etland and England because that'll let me, you know, collect my thoughts here before we go to break and come back and keep this thing rolling along. What a busy, busy twenty four hours it has been just tracking this letsvel basketball stuff. But again, Eland and England, that's who you need to turn to when it comes to buying or selling your home, a
full service residential real estate brokerage. And they've been doing it for a long long time since nineteen seventy six, as I've mentioned. And one of the things that one of the many things that separates them from I guess so called competitors is that you know they're going to do things throughout this process to make
sure you save as much money as possible. Throughout the buying and selling a home pros you know, you know, the whole process of putting your house up for sale and then you buying a new house, and by doing that, they list your home for just one percent because you know, they know they can do that and it's still be a very beneficial, uh, you know, transaction for them as a business, but also it's going to save you a lot of money. And what's that going to do for you?
It's going to help you. It's going to make you never want to trust anybody else when it comes to this process of buying and selling a home, and you're going to tell other people about it because you know that's that's how this works. Word of mouth is the best way to uh to really grow your business. And I won't claim to know what others are doing, but you know, I don't. I don't think there's many that will they'll that'll
list your home for just one percent. And when they do that, of course, it goes up on all of the sites like Zillow, where you know, folks look and are trying, you know that, are trying to find a home, So Eatlin and Needland, whether you're buying, selling, maybe doing both, because that's usually how it works. They'll be with you
every step of the way, making sure it's a smooth process. Because to me, you know, the whole moving, everything that goes, everything that goes into moving, to me just just seems like a headache and a hassle. But no not when you go with Eatlin and Eatland, they're gonna make it as easy as possible for you and again help you save money. So eland dot com is the website E D E L e n dot com And if you want to give them a call, you can do that too.
Five two, five nine nine, It's twenty eight hundred, right, quick Break, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being late on that news about Chucky Hepburn. I think I realized what had happened. I kept I kept refreshing, but I was on the for you and not you know, the actual timeline. So I love that it happens. All right, quick Break, don't go anywhere, keep it locked right here on Sports Talk seven ninety that's right, Coffee and Company rolling along here about thirty minutes left. Appreciate you
hanging out with us, so believe it or not. Another development to share. So Jaden Quainton's we found out earlier today, has had canceled his visit to to Memphis, which led to everybody assuming that Louisville was was next in line, and you know maybe meaning that you know, not next in line.
I suppose maybe just the last one left. But that has since changed, as Eric Bossei of twenty four seven Sports says that Quaintance will now visit Arizona State on for tomorrow and he could be rescheduling a visit to Memphis maybe
next week. So it doesn't change anything in regards to to Louisville, but you know he's still looking for I mean, I have no problem in saying this, and I you know, this will probably this will probably be something let's just say, which this isn't reality, but let's just say this is how college athletics is for the foreseeable future, like for the next ten years, where the portal is just like this and in il is just like this, and it's just an absolute you know circus, which it's just it's not
sustainable, right, But let's just act like it, you know, in a world where it would be sustainable. I think losing a player or you know, and I don't mean transferring, I mean maybe losing a player to another school who you wanted in the portal. I think chasing money. Wanting money will be used is like the thing that makes you feel better about it. Well, he just wanted money. He's just chasing money, which I
mean, I don't know. I just have a feeling that that will always be what is used to just make people accept the defeat a little bit better. And I'll bring that up to say, like I'm not going to you know, talk out of both sides of my mouth here. If Louisville was able to land Jaden Quaintance, let's be real, it would be about money. It would. I would hope that it's not the only thing, but like that matters. So I would imagine what he's doing now is seeing if
there's other schools that'll offer him more money. And I don't know the amount of money that Louisville has has arranged for him within an IL package. I don't. I have it hard. I have our time believing the one point five million to two million is just I just don't see that as realistic. Don't know though, I mean, that's just you know, no clue. So maybe Arizona State has you know, some resources where they could throw something
at him, penny hard away. We know he's got an il money to use, so maybe he's just waiting to see if he gets a better, bigger offer, and if so, he'll probably end up at that school. If not, I would say Louisville will probably get him because I feel comfortable in saying that they've they've made it very appealing to him when it and and you know, when it comes to money. Let me read some of the responses here from from folks reacting to the Eric Bossi news here on Jade and
Quainten's this is a guy I named Mike. He just needs to put himself on eBay to go to the highest bitter at this point, I mean, like, is that a joke? Is that an insult? Like that? That's what this is now? So I mean, I just I don't know.
Louisville may eventually lose players because of money, and I don't mean and they already have them, sure, but I mean maybe because you know they can't afford to pay what somebody wants or because you know, they just don't want to pay what this player thinks he can get elsewhere, and he has proof that others will pay more money, so he goes there. So like
it's going to happen. But like I just as much as this is still new, I mean, I think that's you know, not to be a psychologist er, but I think that's how people are going to cope with not getting players. Like that's all Kentucky fans are saying about Jaden Quaint's when they're not even involved in it, like they've been out for a while, it
seems. I mean, there was a brief moment where it looked like they were going to be involved, but that got shot down within a couple of hours when the Mark Pope in home visit just you know, got canceled and isn't happening. I guess maybe because it was their guy for a while. He was committed and signed with him. But if you know a kid is coming to you for money, you're fine with it. If you know he's not coming to you and it's because of money, the hell with that guy,
That's just I don't know. I just think that's it's crazy. But then again, this kind of stuff, right, it makes us crazy, doesn't it. All Right, So when it comes to when it comes to the Kentucky side of things, there is an update that I think is worth sharing. So right now, Kentucky has a visitor on campus as we speak, and that is Oklahoma transfer otega Oway. He's also considering Texas A and m Oregon. But it sounds like he could be committing any moment to Mark
Popek Kentucky. And then also a really good transfer at point guard hit the portal, I believe yesterday, maybe the day before, and this would be this would be a big time I mean, this would be a big time get. That's davey On Smith who put up some big numbers, had five triple doubles last season for Utah. He's going to visit Kentucky this weekend. So another visitor I believe. Yeah, the transfer from Stanford Andre Stojakovich,
son of Pages Stoyakovich. He's down to Kentucky, North Carolina and col So you know, it wouldn't be a shocker if they start piling up some commits because they've had visitors as well. So we shall see. But do you see it the way I do, John, and if you don't, it's totally fine. But like, I just think the money thing will will be in it. Like you didn't want the kid if he's all about money, but if you know that he committed because you had the deep pockets, then
you celebrated. It's just going to be where you know, I agree, and it replaces the old They're just going to play for this guy because they'll get to the NBA, specifically John Calipari. That used to be the old excuse and that mean and that was real. Same with Duke. Yeah, so Kansas one thing that does make it, you know, to you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna assume that there's nothing that'll be done to college basketball to make me not love it, because that's how much I love it.
I mean, I don't want things to change a whole lot, but clearly things have changed a whole lot. But you know, for me, I'd be surprised if, like I you know, if this becomes something you know, not as important and something I don't care about as much due to the fact that these guys don't really care about like the school, which I'm not really sure how much. I mean, if you play somewhere for a while, like Peyton. Steve was a good example. Peyton and steveham made I
mean this this is his home now. You know he was going to live here and raise his family here, and he started a business here before he even got on Pat Kelsey's staff. I don't think that was something he ever thought what was gonna happen. So, you know, he played it for four years, won a national championship like that's that doesn't happen. That's not gonna happen anymore. It can, but it'd be extremely rare, I think.
So Peyton can't help but love this place. It's a part of him and he has, you know, really cemented himself as a fixture and a part of the Louisville basketball history because he was one of the one of the leaders on one of the three national championship teams that this program has had. So you know, the fans who really do value players that grow and you know, I guess you know, spend three four years like that's just not
it's just not probably going to be happening very often anymore. And if that changes how you enjoy it, then you know, I feel for you. But This is all transactional now, like nearly every bit of it, and I don't maybe I shouldn't say all, because I'm sure there are some other
factors. But with coaches, it's always been transactional, right, Like it's there's We've seen coaches stick around for you know, four or five years and have success, say some things along the way to make you feel as if although they never lit'll never leave here, and then they do because again like they don't. They don't have the passion and the emotional investment in the school and the program like you do because it's been a part of your whole life.
For them, it's a job now. Because it's a job, you would think they put everything into it and really really care about being successful because you know it's their job. But at the end of the day, it's a job. It's transactional. And now I think that's the way with players, and you're gonna see guys bouncing around all the time, and I get that some would be, you know, bothered by that. But one thing I don't understand is the criticism of money. If you can go make money,
wouldn't you do it? I mean, to me, money is one of those things that, like we all know, is a big motivator in everything we do, not only because you know you're greedy or something, but because it matters. It's your livelihood. And I think we're college basket. I mean, there are guys in college basketball that know they'll probably never be longtime NBA players, so this is their chance to really you know, cash in and if they leave your team to go make more money. I get
that. You know, essentially you got dumped, right, that's how you view it. You got you got rejected, and that doesn't feel good. But if you were in their position, you might or you probably would do the same thing. So I don't know. I mean, I I see so much of the well the college sports is ruined with you know, the two things, the portal and nil. And you know it's changed a whole
lot, there's no doubt about that. But one thing I'll say is that so far for me, when you watch college football on a Saturday afternoon, or you're watching college basketball on any given night, when you when you just take in the product, you know, between the lines, I don't see
a big difference in anything. You know, In fact, I think you're seeing better basketball because you're seeing guys stick around in college longer that maybe aren't going to be NBA players, but you know what, they'll stay two more years in college and make good in I on MyD money, and you know, because that gives them more time to stay in America before going across the
pond and really never knowing what they're getting themselves into. So you know, that's what keeps me thinking, like, that's what makes me feel like, Okay, yeah, it's different, but overall, like the actual you know, from the actual sport itself, like when you consume it and whenever it's got eyeballs on it, I haven't seen a huge, you know, drop off or anything. And in fact, viewership is up in both college football and basketball since this happened. And I don't know if it's due to to
this portal stuff and players making money. I mean, you could make the case they would have nothing to do with it, but it hadn't hurt anything just yet as far as you know, the product that is college basketball and college football. And I mentioned those two specifically because you know, those are the ones that people seem to care about most, and those are the ones
that you know have the most eyeballs on them, right. I've now got myself just you know, refresh and NonStop because I was very late to the Chucky Hepburn news. So if you guys missed it, Chucky Hepburn wisconsint point guard who got here last night on visit, has committed to Louisville and he started one hundred and three games at point guard for Wisconsin in the last three
years, twice named Honorable Mentioned in all Big Ten. You know his numbers this past year, I mean they were impressive for a guy that you know is a is a point guard average none points, really impressive, assist to turn over ratio better than three to one. Not a great shooter, but he didn't take a whole lot of them. But I think forty was it forty thirty nine from three in his sophomore year when he actually averaged a little
bit more points than he did this past year. So he's six two, one hundred and ninety five pounds, you know, considered to be an elite defender and leader, which you know, if you start I mean, and you can tell me this, John, I mean, if you're starting at a at point guard in the Big Ten as a freshman that I mean that that's a that's a good sign, right, yes, I mean I always think of Jogi Ferrell for me, for Indiana. He was a Felter Flafe
starter and he started for four years. I mean, not that I know we've already had that conversation where you're not going to get the four year guy anymore. But that's definitely a good sign for for Hepburn. So eight of the thirteen scholarships have been filled, Hepburn And then you go, I guess
we'll start with the guys that have We'll start at the beginning here. Terrence Edwards Junior was the first off the board, and then the two I guess, well, the guys that followed, Pat Kelsey from Charleston, Rain Smith and James Scott, who, by the way, those guys just get completely forgotten about because you didn't have to, you know, wait and see what they were going to do. Was quite clear they were gonna come here.
And but those guys will play. I mean, Rain Smith's a really, really, really good shooter, a guy who like he's got a he's got a weapon. Uh, and that's what he that's that's that's what he's on the floor for and that's you know he can he can. He's a really good shooter. Not just a guy that you know, he can shoot it off the bounce. He's a guy that can get you know, can find a spot in transition. The way they ran him off screens at Charleston was
really really intriguing. And you got to keep in mind if he's got some you know, the good pieces that are already in play here, you know there's gonna be a tension on some other players like Korin Johnson, who's is really smooth guard, and Terrence Edwards Junior. So I could just I could see Rain Smith getting you know, spotting up and you know, being a marksman. So again, Rain Smith, James Scott, and Terrence Edwards Junior
were the first three I believe. After that, it was Javon Hadley who committed from Colorado, Ali Khalif of the BYU big Man who is believed to be red shirting, and then it was Cooran Johnson earlier this week, earlier today, Trey Orr from Long Beach State, and then CHUCKI Edburn So coming together very nicely, and you know, I don't think that this means like, hey, anybody else is going to be a role player. No, I mean I think I think two more of these scholarships could end up being
guys that are big additions. Right, You're gonna have the Utah State transfer in next week following his visit to Kentucky, you know, And really there hasn't been an addition yet in the front court that would make asibor not want to come here. Now Again, I don't know. Maybe he is a lot to Kentucky, like everybody has said, we'll have to wait and see.
But he's one of the best players in the portal. And then I haven't even mentioned this yet, but there's a seven footer going to be visiting this weekend from Stony Brook, and I don't know a whole lot about him, but I know his name is Keenan fitz Morris. And he's already visited to Paul Northwestern and we'll be in for Louisville this weekend. So not a super productive guy, but you know, a seven footer can give you some
more, you know, some more presence in the front court. All right, quick break, we'll come back on the other side to wrap it up. It is Coffee and Company. We are feel about Thornton's right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety. We have very little time left, which you know, usually it's just clock management, which I guess that's the case today, but the never ending updates, and you know, the news wire essentially
for Louisville basketball is just taken over the show. But tonight is the NFL Draft, and we'll have all day tomorrow to react to what happens tonight, and we can also go back then and look at some other crazy things that that that has happened over the years, some of the things I'd forgotten about. I mean, I mentioned earlier the grassmask bong from Laramy Tunzel. That was one of the more recent things that happened that as an all timer,
I forgot about the Vikings missing their picks in two thousand and three. This isn't that crazy, but at a time where the Saints completely traded away their entire draft just so they could have one player, and that was Ricky Williams. So you know, I I'd say it'd be a big shocker if the first three picks are not in fact quarterbacks. That's what everybody seems to believe
is going to happen. And I wouldn't do it. But hey, I'm not somebody that you I would never claim to be somebody capable of, you know, evaluating these kind of players to you know, to know who would be the best, I'll I'd say Williams and Daniels, the two quarterbacks they will be taking one in two. I mean, those are probably your safest bets at that position. But from there, you know, it could see Drake May having a decent run, but I don't know if he's a franchise
quarterback. I certainly don't think JJ McCarthy is. And there's just something about the NFL and the GMS and the owners that just get so enamored by the quarterback. And look, I know the quarterback position matters a whole lot. It's super important, and you need a really good one to win at a high level. But some of these guys, to me, you can just you could say, like, I'll take them in the fourth or fifth round.
But you know, if you've got the if you've got the number, if you've got the number eight pick and you are the you know the Vikings, which I think have the pick courtesy of the Falcons, you know, why would you you know why would you take JJ McCarthy or another quarterback that is a bigger risks and would why wouldn't you just go get you know, Rock Bauers, who's going to be sitting there available, who's a really really
good player? Like the NFL, given how many players you have on the field, and I know how important the quarterback position is, but it should more often be just about okay, especially I guess when you get to the you know, rounds two through seven, I suppose like just go the best player available, right, The longevity of guys in the NFL really in't that long anyway, at any position for that matter, certainly running back, where you could just like, look, you never know, you might like,
you might love the guy you have for the next two years, but when he's gone, you know, you drafted a guy who you took in the first round that could be, you know, a superstar. But anyways, you guys, enjoy your night. I'm gonna do the same, and we'll be back at it tomorrow right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
