It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now, here's Nick coffee. All right, let's get it started here. I mean, the show started an hour ago. If you're just now joining us, you are late, but it's okay, better late than never. What I mean is, let's get hour number two started on a beautiful well. I think it's actually gonna get gloomy. It may be gloomy now as we speak, but it was nice earlier today. It's supposed to

rain tonight, but Derby season is certainly is in full effect. It just feels like Derby time and it doesn't feel like it's about to happen, you know, like we're not. We're not. We're not at Derby Week yet, but Derby vibes man. I was asked a few times by folks I met over the years, you know, through through work, you know, through you know, through through this. Honestly, just people I've gotten over the years that have come on my show, and you know, people I've

I've interacted with along the way. People who aren't from Louisville that move here. They don't understand why Derby is such a like Derby season is such an awesome thing to experience as a louivillion and a couple of times I tried to like explain it and put into words like why it's awesome, what makes it awesome, examples certain and I couldn't do it. And it's something that I now have just decided to tell people, like if they don't know, you

got to be here like you. I can't put into words why it's awesome, But Derby season in Louisville, I love it. It just always feels like the party's going on for like a month, and you know, we have to work, but we're not really working, right. I mean we are technically, but when you know you've got events and all the stuff that comes with Derby, like you know, it's almost like even though you're working,

some people take off work. But it's just it's awesome. I think it was the Business First a Louisville Business First editor to put this tweet out. The uh put the tweet out. I don't know when it was, might have been last week, but I just saw it come across my timeline on Sunday, and I mean, he's exactly right, and that is that like right now probably even starting late last week, it's like the official beginning

of let's talk more after Derby season. In the work in the workplace, right like, if you've got clients, you're talking to you you know, you're you know, doing business whatever. It may be a lot of work stuff where your email and talking to people like you can kind of just like

we'll regroup after Derby. And I love it. So if you are not from Louisville but you live here and you're new and maybe this is your first time being around it, you know, enjoy it, take it all in, go to all the events, the chow wagon, I mean obviously the track itself, you know is awesome. Going to Derby is not an easy thing to do, but it's something you should do once, I think. And then of course there's now, you know, the week of Derby.

I mean I think every year, you know, there's a day that becomes like the new popular trendy day, right like it used to be Derby. Well now Derby's kind of its own thing. It's like as big as the oaks. And then last year Wednesday to me seemed like you know, the ultimate day. Who knows, maybe Tuesday of didn't they have something called five oh Tuesday last they did. You're right, You're right, So I just think you know anything you can. People who are not into horse racing like

myself, I mean, I love everything that comes with Derby. I really don't care that much about the two minute horse race, although you know, I watch it and I really enjoy learning about the you know, the stories of how the trainers and you know ended up with a chance to run into Kentucky Derby. Like that stuff's cool to me. But the actual sport of horse racing is not something I know anything about, to be honest with you, and I could be wrong here, but I don't really feel like in

this market we're really exposed to the sport of it. We're exposed to the event that is Derby, and it's a humongous event. So despite not being horse racing fan and not really caring a whole lot about the sport itself,

I love everything about Derby. So it's something that is a Louisville native, lived here my whole life, Like you know, I care about It's part of what makes us unique Louisville. So when they do an event that feels like it's our day, like people are going to be more energized to go. But I just I've learned this as somebody who I mean, I've covered the Derby for our team here at iHeart on h As for the last gosh last eight years. This will be my eighth Derby, I think. And

I go to Oaks every year. I've been doing that since I was a teenager. And now that I can go to the track week of just because you know, I have credential and you know I used to do my show when I was on Mornings, I would do my show backside there, so you know, I just have learned it, like no matter what you do to make it local, Like it's such a big event that there are people that come from across the world, not just for the Derby, they come

for the week. Now there's also people that fly in on a private jet day of the Derby and make it a day and they've got the ability to do that. But yeah, it just hit me yesterday just you know, hearing more and seeing more billboards up around town about the events and and whatnot and Derby seasons awesome. So excited to partake in some Derby events. Love going to the chow Wagon a lot of good people watching there, some really delicious but awful food, you know, like it's great, delicious, but

it's not good for you. But shout out to Derby season Derby one fifty two, by the way, which you know, I don't know what's going to be a whole lot different than one forty nine or one forty eight, But just to be able to say Derby one fifty, I mean that alone just makes it feel like, well, this one's different. It's one fifty all right. It's Coffee and Company. That's us. We are feeled by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety nit Coffee. That is me the company

man, mister John Alden alongside. And we had a very busy first segment of the show today because there's a lot of things that right as the show started we're developing, and we'll reset that coming up here in just a moment. But I do want to remind you that coming up at four thirty, we're going to chat with Terrence Edwards Junior for future Louis of a Cardinal who

has decided to transfer. He made his decision earlier this month. Former James Madison star was the sun Belt player of the year before deciding to hit the portal, and of all the pieces they've added, and I think nearly every one of them, in fact, all of them are are piece is worth being excited about. But you know, this is a guy that has you know, he's been a star. And not to say the other guys that

have committed here won't do the same thing. But I do think because he committed a little early in the process, it's not that people are forgetting about him. But he's a huge He's a huge piece thus far, and I wouldn't be shocked at no matter who they end up adding from here on out. I still think Fats, which is his nickname, We're gonna find out why that's his nickname. I still feel like he's gonna be a key piece to this team next year in the debut season of the Pat Kelsey era.

All Right, so we'll start with the Jayden Quaintans update that came out from twenty four to seven Sports Eric Bossei, I believe put this out right before the show started today, and I'm happy that he did because one, it's somewhat of an encouraging update if you're a Louisville fan, and it's a good update if you're a Kentucky fan, and it gave us something to kind of dive right into. So Jayden quaint and he's not going to consider Arkansas.

They're out of the running. Which I mentioned this when we first discussed it. If you'd have told me twenty four hours ago that you'll have an update on Jaden Quaintance's situation by three o'clock tomorrow, I would have guessed that it means he's going to Arkansas. Well, no, he's actually not considering Arkansas. So there's no I mean, I'm not seeing anything in this report that

tells you why Arkansas is not in the mix. But it went from everybody just assuming that's where he's going to end up because he was already committed to cal Cal goes to Arkansas. Arkansas has a lot of money. It just to me it seemed like a no brainer. But they're not going to be considered. And he did visit Louisville, which they're still being listed. I think the visit itself, knowing that it went well, means they're in consideration.

But now Memphis is in the mix and there's a visit I believe this weekend that Quaintans is going to make to go see Penny Hardaway at Memphis, but Kentucky has now entered the race here. Mark Pope today is having an in home visit with Jayden Quainton. So you know, if you're if you're a Louisville fan, you're still alive. You don't have to worry about Cal

in Arkansas. But Memphis and Penny. I feel like Penny's done really well at getting just about maybe not any high school senior that he wanted, but getting a lot of them. In fact, there was a stretch there where he was getting guys over over Cal. I think, I mean, I feel like there was more than just one being James Wiseman. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was just James Wiseman, but I think it's I mean, I think it's fair to say that it's a good update for both fan bases

here. You know, we'll see if Kentucky can, you know, can regain some ground here. But Kentucky, I'm sorry, Cal and Arkansas. It's still just normal. I just can't. I'm going to continue to probably say Kentucky and Cal. But now when we talk Cal, we're talking Arkansas. But you know, the fact that they're not involved at all is a

good thing for everybody around here as far as I'm concerned. As far as when we get update, I don't know, Like I just don't think you're gonna see that many top tier programs get in the race here for a quaintance, because despite him being a guy that something could you know, he could be the number one pick in the draft in two years. He's sixteen years old, he's already pretty polished, but yet nowhere near developed as a full I mean, he's going to get so much better, and yet he's already

despite being sixteen years old or a really good player. But the interest in freshmen is just not what it used to be, especially late in the game when you only have maybe a little bit of an il left or maybe a scholarship or two, and you want one piece that's specifically going to help you for next year. I think you're going to see coaches want to stick with the portal but making a mistake about it. That doesn't mean this kid couldn't

make a huge impact for anybody next year. And I certainly hope that it's at Louisville, but we shall see. I mean, if it comes down to Kentucky, Memphis and Louisville. I mean, maybe we get an update that is vision sooner rather than later. All right, So some other things to discuss here as far as you know updates. Uh, there's more names entering the portal for Louisville football post spring and optics. You know, not

great. I think it's still natural for fans to see a guy they were really excited about that committed and transferred to your program in December, to then see them leave four months later. I think again, human you know, human instincts take over. You're bummed, you were really excited, you never saw them play, and now they're leaving, So you're sad, and I

get it. But I hope that eventually we will in fact learn to just you know, understand that guys moving around in college sports is often as they as often as they do, you know they I mean that there's there's not going to be people that you can just blame for that. I mean, if you want to blame the kids, go for it. But you know, I don't mean, like, you know, attack them on social media. But I'd say, to be honest with you, they have the right

to do whatever the hell they want. But I also think that it's I mean, they're the reasons they're leaving nobody else right, Like, no, there's no checks that are not you know, getting cleared. Uh, you know, there's nobody that's being misled. I just think most coaches surely will tell a transfer you got to come in and compete, Like I doubt there's

ever an arrangement that that you know you're gonna be. Cause if you talk up a guy, how much you like him, how much you think he'd thrive in your system, and how he'd be a huge piece for you, that may be you know, some of these that may be a tell for some of these kids that you're telling them they're going to be they're going to be the guy, But I maybe they don't understand that, like it's just a foregone conclusion that like you're going to have to earn it. Like if

you're practicing and you suck, you're not going to be. And I'm not saying that's anything with these guys, like that these guys were terrible, but what nobody wants when they're Like when when you're in the portal and you and you are being pursued and obviously you want to find a landing spot that's best for you. I highly doubt that you know in your list of things that are most important for you on your search for a new home, I highly doubt one of the things listed is I want to be a part of the

depth. No, you want to be a part of the of the core. You want to be a guy that is a key contributor that plays a lot of snaps. And I think Jeff Brohm hit the portal like most coaches wanting to add depth. These guys don't want to be depth, and they went through spring and they feel like they're going to be depth. So Wesley Walker, a defensive back who transferred from Tennessee, re entered the portal just

like Tyler Baron, who was a big git. I mean, he was somebody that really impacted Louisville's rankings in the transfer portal rankings because he was a very productive player at Tennessee and good, good player. He didn't get hit the field during springbolt from an I understand injury related. Don't know what the injury is, but he bounced and Wesley Walker did play, and you know he was a part of the depth. He was not a key guy and

that's nobody's fault. I mean, I guess it's maybe his fault because he wasn't as good as maybe he needed to be to be a key guy. But spy, look, I've never played a snap of college football at that level or any level for that matter. That may surprise some of you, I know, But is it like a foregone conclusion when spring raps that, like you mean, like that you know where you are on the depth chart? Like I think the depth chart clearly is I mean, in fact,

do they even have depth charts? I mean, obviously you're seeing who's getting the one reps. But I think, you know, I just maybe I'm wrong here. I just don't know if that's if that's you know, if that is you know, a definitive Okay, well now I gotta leave because there's no way I'll ever be a starter here. Like if not, then

like do something about it. And I know it sounds, you know, like something a Louisville fan would say when you lose players like this, But I also think it's a reasonable conclusion to come to, and that is that, you know, maybe it wasn't even about just the depth chart. Maybe they just realize they're playing behind. Like, if you're a Tennessee and you're you're making an impact there in the SEC, although Tennessee's not really known for,

you know, having a good defense. But if you're making an impact in the SEC on on defense and you transferred to Louisville in the ACC, I'm sure you are thinking you took a little bit of a step down because you know of the almighty SEC. But if you're thinking you may have a tougher time getting reps because there's some good players here, like, that's probably gonna hurt your pride a little bit. And I'm not saying that's what these guys did, but by all accounts, it's not NIL related. It's not

that they think the team's gonna stink. It's just because they you know, specifically Wesley Walker Beharon never played, so I don't know if I mean, I don't I mean, I'm not sure where he would have been, but he just decided to leave because he could. And there's nobody Like again, I don't know who you can be mad at, Like, I don't know who, I don't know who you blame. You know, Penny Boone, you know he was here and I think he just assumed that he would be

anointed as the guy, and he wasn't. I think they still would have loved to keep him. But now he's he's gone, and it sounds like Kentucky and Joe w. J are is likely as likely options here. And here's what's you know, here's what's wild to me. It's like, if you think you, I mean, if you if you're worried about being able to, I guess, secure the lead backspot at Louisville. I mean at Georgia You kidding me? I mean Penny Boon, Let's be honest. Couldn't

I mean he couldn't. He didn't succeed at Maryland. Fine player there, but like he put up big numbers and became a very notable player via the portal because he went down to the MAC level after being you know, solid at best at Maryland. I think he's gonna go compete and win, like win reps at Georgia and look at Kentucky, he'd have a better chance. But Kentucky added an offense at Ohio State running back in the portal, uh

in the in the in the at the end of the season. So these guys have the ability to make these decisions and they should, you know, And you know, as much as I think it's weird, and it's just all you know, when I say weird, to see a guy that transfer it in in December be leaving four months later without ever playing a snap is just like it. It's it's stupid. It is what it is. But the end of the day, they have the right to make these decisions about

their career and that's and that's what they're doing. Also, another name to keep an eye on in the portal that is not football related, but but basketball uh Ugo. I'm not going to butcher his last name on Yinso I think is his last name, but uh is Ugo is is the shorter version of his first name. Correct, Yes, Ugana and Yinsu. I think I said that correctly or is it close? It sounds good, okay Ugana and Yensu Ugo. Uh He hit the portal after a week ago declaring he's

all the way in on the on the NBA draft. Maybe he got humbled because he's now going to transfer and stick to college basketball. It sounds like and Louisville. According to Jamie SSHAWV on three Sports, is the first, it's the first player to reach out to him, So that'd be a good addition, I think, just as far as giving you some rim protection. You know, I remember watching one Kentucky game where he bawled out and I'm pretty sure it was Florida. I'm gonna look it up here because if not,

it's just gonna drive me crazy. But you know, he it was the game where Kentucky lost on the they lost on the uh not on they lost in overtime, but it was like, I don't know if it was a buzzer beater, but there was a shot made by Florida in the innerregulation that took it to overtime. But yeah, so in that game, thirty three minutes, thirteen points, sixteen rebounds, and eight blocks. So I

don't think he had another game close to that. But he's a seven footer who can block shots and you know, offensively, not a whole lot to work with, it seems. But again, you're going to you're gonna see Pat Kelsey pursue guys that have a stat line that you're thinking, what are

we doing here? But just remember he's building an entire team, and teams need depth and role players and to be fair, like UGO's a guy that you know, I don't know what his interest is going to be because obviously he had a lot of hype coming out of high school, but in two years, I mean, he never really materialized for him. So you know, I wouldn't prioritize him if i'm Pat Kelsey. But you know, if you could add him, I think he'd be You know, you get thirteen

scholarships to use here. I mean, technically six of them are now accounted for, but I don't think that'd be a bad addition at all. All right, let's do this. Let's take a quick time out here. We will come back on the other side and chat with Terrence Edwards Junior Louisville. He's transferring to Louisville hasn't happened just yet, but we'll get to know him a little bit, talk about his decision to come to Louisville. And I

want to ask him what his first impression of Pat Kelsey was. High energy, clearly, But you know, if you don't know him at all, and like you know you're meeting him and you know you've never even heard his interview, just know he's the coach at Louisville was previously at Charleston. Like you know, you probably would think like, wow, this guy is on which again I would imagine leaves quite the impress. All right, don't don't go anywhere, keep a lock right here. It is Coffee and Company and

we are fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. It's right Coffee and Company rolling along here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciate you hanging out with us, and we now welcome in a guest here, a future Louisville Cardinal Terrence Edwards Junior, the transfer from James Madison. Can I call you Terrence or do you go by fat or fats? I gotta I gotta know about the nickname Terrence. The nickname came about when I was like a young kid,

I grew up. I was I was fat when I was growing up as a kid, and everybody used to just call me fat, and my parents just stuck with it and it just got around. So more people just call me fat. But I prefer either Terrence fat. It really don't matter to me. Okay, but you're clearly you're not fat anymore. So I'm assuming when people do learn that your nickname. They always want to know they you got to tell that story a lot. I'm sure, Yeah, for

sure. I hear that every every time I get someone always asks me get around someone who knows me for real. They always ask them where I get a nickname a from? And I just have to tell them the same story every time. It's clearly stuck. So I want to start with your first impression of Pat Kelsey. Obviously, once you decided to enter the transfer portal,

obviously a lot of schools very interested in bringing you aboard. And you took the visit to Louisville and clearly liked what you saw, like the pitch. But you know, Pat Kelsey's a guy that we're still learning about here in Louisville, and he's, you know, I think we learned from the jump, very very energetic, always on. You know, what were you What was your first impression when you had your first conversation with Coach Kelsey.

I was most impressed by by like what type of guy he was, as far as like like things that doesn't have nothing to do with basketball, you know what I'm saying. His staff and the guys that you have around in the program have been with him for a long time, like he' ga, like he's he's He's played for coach Pat Kelsey, So you know, I can tell that he keeps he keeps in touch with a lot of people that that played with played for him, and that's played around and just just just

been in his program. He always bring them a board. So that's the first thing that stuck out to me. And and I'm familiar with coach Pat Kelsey, so that's why it was a kind of easy decision because I used to play against him when he was at Charleston when Jamu was in the c A a two years ago, so I'm familiar with his style. You know, I played against them, so they familiar with my game. They seen me when I was really really young, when I first came in to college.

So when I met those guys on campus, and I can just tell that they was decided. And one thing I do know about coach Pat Kelsey is that he's going to win. And I have one more year of eligibility, and I wouldn't want to put my trust in nobody else but him as

far as the winning so and becoming a NBA prospect. So you mentioned a connection that may that a lot of people may not be familiar with, which is the fact that before you guys at James Madison made the switch to the Sunbelt, you they were you guys were very well familiar with one another, right like you. You were aware of the way they play as far as style, the way he coaches, and obviously he was familiar with your game,

uh and very impressed. But you mentioned, you know, he's he's gonna win, and uh, that is that is what he has said every chance he gets when he talks about this opportunity that he has here at Louisville. He's won everywhere he has been. But you know, Louisville is coming off of a of a really bad year and this is a brand new team.

I just think it shows a lot of faith you have in him to, you know, be the first guy to say, look, I'm all in, let's let's see how this team kind of kind of comes together. Did you do you have any idea as far as you know some other I'm not going to ask you to to name names or anything like that, but as far as you know style of play, Like in the debut season of

Coach Kelsey, how do you think you guys will play. I assume it's going to probably be pretty similar to the style that we saw at Charleston. Yeah, for sure. And we're going to get out a run. And the most thing I'm more most excited about is it's kind of not a style, but it's just dog. You know, you have to be a dog to play for Coach PK. And I've seen that in the in the past, and just the guys you have on his team, I think you really have to be a dog to play for him. So I just can't wait

to brain that. I can't wait to bring that to the Louisville culture. And and and get and and get with Coach PK and we get all the guys on board, and and everybody just wanted and and stuff like that. That's what made me want to play for them. Like when I got around them, it made me want it. It made me want it more. Yeah, I think that's that's infectious, isn't it right? The competitiveness, you know, guys who want to compete and get better and challenge each other.

I mean culture. At times, it sounds like a corny thing to some people, but I'm sure you know, as a veteran in college basketball, Like that's that's super important. Mm yep, it's super important. I think that's that's kind of the main thing when you when you playing college basketball, because you know, you college basketball have a lot of outside noise, and but if you build a culture within the team and and and in the coaching staff, it can it can actually be something great. And I've just

seen that just building building what we built here at James Madison. So yeah, I can't wait the to be coach Bob By coach p K and his staff and and he made it, he made it really clear on my visit that we're gonna win. We're gonna win, and and and I've seen it in his eyes, his body language. Everybody knows it's a big task coming in a littleville because they haven't had really have been been successful in the last

couple of years. So we are just ready for the challenge. We're we're going at it head first, like we're not saying we're just gonna win, like we're I feel like we're gonna win, Like we're gonna win when games for real, and and we can't wait to prove everybody on what we can do at a high level because I feel like all of us share that same edge. He's coming from Charleston, I'm coming from gm U, So I feel like everybody is saying sharing the same ads. It's far as moving up

playing in the Power Floud Conference. So yeah, it's very exciting. I can't wait. Terrence Edwards is our guest here joining us on Sports Talk seven ninety future louis of Cardinal the transfer from James Madison, the reigning Sun Belt A Player of the Year. So I know you're you're from Uh, you're from Georgia, and obviously you've spent the last four years or so at JMU.

But let's just go back in time. You know, five six years ago, if somebody would have mentioned the city of Louisville, Kentucky, what would come to mind for you? Have you visited before? Did you know much about it? Obviously it's going to be your home, uh for the next year, and who knows, there's a lot of people that play here, even if it's for a year or two, that end up deciding to

make it home, you know, when they get finished playing basketball. But you know, years ago, if somebody would have brought up Louisville, what would have come to mind for you. A great a great a great school, a great basketball program, you know, like growing up, I've always seen Louisville Lee eight win the national Championship final fours. So a lot could have came to five years ago about Lolville. That's one of the school that you know, it's hard to not see what they're doing. Sure, you

know what I'm saying. Even even if you're you can be across the the country, you will always know how good Louisville is in East sports. So you know that's yeah. So I was gonna ask you when when you look at the the production that you had at JMU in the last few years.

Uh, you know, obviously very productive. Again, your stats speak for themselves, but is there something about you yourself as a player, something about your game that you you know can't necessarily be seen on the stat sheet, maybe you can't even see be seen in highlights, Like maybe something about you that you know you want fans to know about before they get a chance to see. On the floor of the season. I'm always happy. I'm always

happy for a teammate. Always. I love to give teammates confidence. I love chearing for my teammates. So my teammate hit a three in a game, I might jump up and down and and just just go a while, like you know, stuff like just I just love to to to amp up the next guy. I love that. That's one of the biggest things I like about myself. I intentionally don't do that when another teammates score. It's just something that that just happens. I'm yeah, it's just naturally. I'm

just always happy for the next guy. You know, That's something that doesn't pop up in the statue. That's just something that I have to do with type of person you are. And I feel like that's why I get I do what I do on the court, because I'm always happy for the next person. All Right, So let's just you know, throughout a hypothetical situation here, Let's say you know, there's some guys listening to this show that have Louisville in mind. They may want to transfer here to their being pursued.

What would be your message to those guys again, hypothetical situation. You know, if if, if, if in fact, you know they were listening and you wanted to tell them why Louisville would be a great option, what would you say, We're going to win. We're gonna win, and we have to. We have the best fan base in the country to bag that up if when we win. So when we get to win and everybody is going everybody's gonna know, everybody's gonna feel it, and and everybody's gonna

fear it. So it's better to get on board now than then then then wait when we ask you, we started doing it, and you're gonna look back and wish you wanted to be a part of it. So that's the message I got. All right, Terrence, I got a few quick, rapid fire questions for you. These are just you know, this is just questions that will let us get a chance to know you a little bit better. What's the last show that you watched all the way through? Like bing

series. I don't know if you watch much TV, Netflix, Hulu, that kind of stuff. What's the last show you you watched all the way through? Probably Power Goes. Okay, that's Stars, right, I'm familiar, haven't seen them yet? Good stuff? Yeah, good stuff. Great, It's just a lot of action. It's just I just like it, all right. So favorite your favorite meal? My favorite meal is probably friar rice. You can't go wrong there. That's good stuff, all right.

So when you were when you were a kid, you know, growing up, probably hoping to be in this position that you're in now, an accomplished college basketball player with one more year left at a big time school. What players did you maybe not pretend to be, but maybe try to emulate a little bit. Guys you really looked up to when you were when you were younger. Probably Sabad Napier and Sabaz Napier and Grayson Allen. Okay, those are names. We're familiar with those both, uh, well, acc Guy

and Grayson Allen. But I was Sabaz Napier in the old Big East days in the American Conference. It was somebody Louisville played, uh played played pretty pretty frequently. What actor would play you in a movie? Probably mm, probably we like uh, I like Martin Lawrence. Okay, Martin Lawrence is absolutely hilarious. That's a great answer. Yeah, he's to me, he's one of those guys and nobody would say he's not funny. But like when people mentioned sort of you know, those that are in that lane, I

feel like he doesn't get mentioned enough. Mart Lawrence is hilarious, you know, not only a stand up. But yeah, no doubt, no doubt about it. That about so I know you again. You were at James Madison for the last you know, four years, and and you know you're heading to Louisville. I'm sure you get to go home to Georgia, you know, as much as you can. Obviously you're you're very busy, but I'm sure you've been back and forth whenever you get the chance. But whenever

you are away. What do you miss most about where you grew up in Georgia? Probably what I miss about the area I grew up like. Probably the rec center that we had, like near our neighborhood. It was just that's where we did everything at We played football in the grass, like we're going to team and play basketball, just back and forth. For all they switching sports playing baseball, it was fight at Rice Center for sure. Well,

Terrence, I appreciate you making time for us. I can't wait for you to get here to Louisville. And I know Pat Kelsey's going to get this thing turned around and envision you being a big part of that. So appreciate the time, and we'll see you here in Louisville soon. Yes, sir, I appreciate you. All right. That's Terrence Edwards Junior. Fat that's the nickname. Really good conversation there. He gave some really good answers

that you know, had me excited. As far as the competitiveness. You know, a guy who you know wants to compete and he knows that's the culture that Pat Kelsey's had at his previous employer, Charleston. And I'll admit I forgot about the connection there where they they're familiar with one another, like this is a guy who knows what Pat Kelsey's about. They were in the same league for at least a couple of years. So good stuff there, right, will take a quick break, come back on the other side to

wrap up the four o'clock hour and keep this thing rolling along again. Coffee and Company. Philbeth Thornton's on at Sports Talk seven ninety I tell you the transfer portal is insane to keep up with. I really mean it. And during that great interview, I mean, I don't know if you guys enjoyed it. I enjoyed the conversation. Hopefully you guys did as well. With Terrence Edwards Junior. One of the additions to the Louisville basketball program courtesy of

the Transfer Portal. But the young man we talked about yesterday who is a teammate of Karin Johnson's at Washington, Wesley Yates red shirted this past year due to an injury. But he is a former top forty guard from Texas. He's visiting seemingly right now. He's posting stuff on Instagram, and the belief

is that he will follow Karan Johnson and commit to Louisville. And then a name you know that I did not expect to see appear as a you know, a candidate for Louisville is the you make sure I've got it right here? Good Luck? This is this is good Luck? Do you know what? You know what I'm talking about? His name is good Luck and he's a transfer from Texas, I'm sorry, from Utah State, and I think

Kentucky's just been believed to be the likely landing spot for this guy. A sober great I want to say good Luck still, I mean either way, Okay, wait a second, his name is great, his name is just great. Well, his first name is Great, his last name is good Luck. I mean, they're both. It would be easily to just they're

both not in typical names obviously. Yeah, great Osubor. So he's a really good player, and he is somebody that again you never really know what's true anymore when it comes to the you know, online stuff about guys that are in the portal, but you know, the connection I guess would be that you toss state. You know they you toss state and BYU maybe they

played each other. I'm not really sure, but seventeen point seven points a game, nine rebounds was a really really good player for Danny Sprinkle last year. I believe he might have started his career. Yeah, he started his career at Montana State and was pretty good there, but really had a great year in the Mountain West. And again I believe that that Kentucky and Washington because that's where Danny Sprinkle ended up. We're just assumed to be the two

potential spots for him. But now Louisville is involved and they're going to get a visit as well as Texas Tech. So he's going to visit Kentucky April twenty ninth through May first, and then he will be in Louisville also on May first through May third, which I mean they're gonna get the visit that you know leads up the Derby, so he'll leave on the fourth, which is you know, Derby Day. But if he's in Louisville, I mean, he's gonna be Louisville on you know, Oaks and Therby and whatnot,

which can't hurt Louisville's chances. But I think this could end up being you know, the real you know, if all the visits end up happening. I think this could actually come down to being the first real battle between these two schools. And Washington is clearly going to be a factor as well. That's where his coach went. Maybe that's where he ends up. But a really good player. Another one to add to the list of you know,

potential additions to to both rosters Louisville and Kentucky. There is another update on Jayden and Quaint's because you know, I guess that could technically end up being the battle, right if it's if Memphis is no longer involved, maybe it comes down to louis of Kentucky. Well, things could change. But now that visit that that Jadan Quaints was expected to have with Mark Pope is now

not happening. So I don't know if that means they're out of they're not in consideration, but the visit is no longer going to happen, according to twenty four to seven Sports. Therefore, maybe it's Memphis and Louisville. And I have no real reason to just believe Memphis is going to get him, but I do. Maybe it's just because I don't want to give a hopes up. And you know, Memphis, they usually get really highly Penny usually

gets really highly regarded freshmen. But you know, is the bag, you know, the same level, right, Like Memphis has money because of their connection to FedEx, FedEx of course being headquartered in Memphis. But I don't know. I mean, I I Louisville may not be wise to spend an insane amount of money for a sixteen year old, but let's just say, and again, if you're also guaranteed two years out of this guy though, right, yes? And no, because he could transfer him. Yeah,

that's true. So you know, there's there's that. But I mean, I get the sense that Louisville can pay what really anybody would pay for a

freshman. Now, if they get into a bidding war with somebody, that's you know, in two three million dollar range, because they're superstars of college back there, they're already superstars in college basketball, and like their productions there then you know, trust me, I'm not trying to say that that Louisville could outbid anybody for any player, but I think it really just comes down to what they're willing to pay for a freshman, because I think it's quite

clear that the value there is not what it is compared to a proven college player that has hit the portal, that knows what they're worth and knows they're not going to be getting an NBA contract that has a bunch of millions guaranteed to it.
