It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now here's Nick coffee. All right, we'll get the five o'clock hours started with some breaking news I think it was, you know, within the last hour or so uh UFC and the YOUM Center announcing there's gonna be a UFC card, a live US, live UFC event here in Louisville on

June the eighth. So we've got Derby one point fifty coming up on May the fourth, We've got a PGA Championship at Valhalla May sixteenth, at the nineteenth, and then of course now a UFC event that'll be on June the eighth. So good times here in Louisville. And I'm I'm gonna maybe do the show at the PGA Championship one day. That was what I was talking about before the show today. With the brass here at iHeart you're gonna vibe

golfers as they're taking swings. They probably swing the club. I wouldn't they like that. If there's one place that like it would be frowned upon to to do that kind of stuff whatever you want to call it, golf, it would be that Now UFC could be a lot of fun, right Derby Derby is gonna be fun too, So I need to I need to get some reps in I haven't. We didn't do any at basketball this year for vibe check and the opening the opening week, I guess there's a preseason game.

I mean, yeah, you're with me, right, Yeah. It was the only one we did. Yeah, and I thought about doing another one, but it just became it was it was. There was no vibes, you know what I'm saying. And the people that were there, you know, I think to them, they just love it so much regardless of

what's going on, they're gonna still go. And they didn't really fit like with what you know, it was gonna be hard to make that, in my opinion, really entertaining it all just because of the vibes surrounding everything. So, you know, it was you know, I'm looking forward to doing more of them and keeping it rolling along. But I've always said this, what make you know, whenever I end up being able to for those who

don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Before the Kinney paint aras started, I just decided I wanted to do something a little different when it comes to content and you know, coverage, I guess, and it really isn't coverage of anything other than you know, people that are at the games.

But I started doing something called a vibe check, which is interially like man on the Street interviews with people, and I've done it in a lot of places, the State Fair, the Louder than Live Festival, football games. I feel like there's I've done it on remotes before at different places that we've gone and do the show, and it is just a you know, four

to five minutes sometimes three minutes video that I post after. And there's so many conversations I have that don't end up in it because it wasn't much of anything, and you know, I know early on if it's going to be used, but I still at least continue to have the conversation briefly, just because it would be rude to to walk away like that and say, no,

you're you're not entertaining, see ya. And then also there's convers stations that are had three minutes on their own, but I only use maybe twenty thirty seconds on like two different answers. So the ones that I feel the best about are when people don't have a clue what I'm doing, who I am. Those who see it and like run up to it, those aren't very Like that's just harder to make that I think seem organic. Now you're

like really hammered. Then I can probably make it work and it could be funny, and it could, you know, probably be There was one we did where I it was Louisville Duke and football, and I still feel pretty good about it. But because it was a rainy cold, like not many people out tailgating because of the weather. I mean it was gloomy and rainy all day that day when they played duke and football, So you know,

I had to I had to dig deep. And I went back to where the college kids, the fraternities and the sororities tailgate at the end of the lot, and you know they were they were saw stuff and we made it work. But I like to mix it up. Do I of different types of folks to talk to. But again, when people you know, I do wonder at some point like is that just going to become like stale And it's so not me. Anybody who knows me, like has known me a lot, you know, for a long time, known me in my in

my life outside of this. Uh, they couldn't believe that I ever decided to do that. But I did it. You know, didn't know what to think, didn't know how it would go, and uh it became something fun and it became you know, something that that got a lot of you know, got got a lot of feedback, good feedback for the most part. But the second it feels like, you know, cringe to me, then I'm probably gonna have to hang it up. I don't want to do

that. Everything runs its course. Yeah, things run their course. And I think the different types of of I mean in reality, the different like different various places to do it with the different types of people, that's what

would make it really not run its course. Because if it's a different environment, a different atmosphere for like a music festival for you know, the State Fair was something I didn't even get to do one a derby last year, so you know it, I just think doing it before football and basketball games, Uh, I always feel like, you know, man, what like which direction am I gonna go? Like? But now that I think about it, football is always going to be There's so many people and it's you

know, tailgating. I mean, those are pretty easy to do because there's so many people that you encounter. There's so many more people that go to and you're walking around tail getting a lot or walking around the concourse when you

get into the stadium. Basketball games is a little bit different. But on on the basketball side moving forward though, I mean, there's gonna be so much enthusiasm and excitement that hopefully we have a good a good amount of them that are that are you know, worth doing next year, which I can't imagine we won't because again, there's going to just be built in excitement just

because this. I mean, we have no clue who's going to be on the roster, We have no clue how it's gonna how it's all gonna come together. But it's new. Pat Kelcey is going to continue to make sure the fan base is excited. He's going to continue and get to engage with the fan base and it's gonna work. And look, if they don't win, then there's gonna be criticism, but that's that's part of it and he knows that. So anyways, it is our number three here Coffee and Company.

Feel But Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. Been very busy throughout the show. Today, we'll get back into the football stuff coming up on the other side because Penny Boon, the running back who showed up to Louisville in

December after transferring to Toledo. He has hit the portal after a few months, and there was some controversy, if you will, in the last twenty four hours as far as what led to him, leaving some idiots on the internet claiming it's because checks aren't clearing, which I'm amazed how many people don't just believe anything they see and it's not like because there's a lot of legitimate well I don't wanna say fake news because I know what people think of when

they think of that, and you know, don't believe anything on the internet, like that's such a vague thing that just it sounds as if like anybody sharing legitimate information, that's just that's your go to to tell them that they're wrong, like you know, credible reporters and writers, you know CNN,

and I'm only using seeing a CNN because it's like a political thing. There'll be people that will just say, well, you know, just because it's on the Internet doesn't mean it's doesn't mean it's true, which you know technically is true. But these Twitter accounts that we talked about, you, I just cannot believe how many people don't automatically realize that there's no way that that's

a legitimate source for news. And even when it's quite clear that it's not like a legitimate outlet that reports on news, some of the things that they report, like, think about how unrealistic that is, and then think about where it comes from, and then you should just know like that's probably something that's not true. But anyways, the money situation, I think his sense deleted Penny Boone since deleted Instagram story confirms that he does claim that it's about

money. So we'll let you guys hear that and educate those as we were educated earlier in the show to understand what it means to stand on business. And we've been standing on business ever since John Right, We always stand, always stand on business, always about it's the whole show, always about the

bag. Yep. So real quick on the basketball side, So tomorrow starts a four day run for Pat Kelsey and his staff with visitors, and we've talked a lot about those guys and The big name is Jaden Quaintance, the five star top ten player who decommitted from Kentucky last week. He'll visit tomorrow and Pat Kelsey's going to have a chance to sell. I think we learned

right away this guy can sell pretty well. He sold us the day he was introduced as the coach, and he's been, you know, really kind of reading the room, reading the situation, and understanding what this job is in the first few weeks that he's been on the job. Now, obviously he hadn't coached a basketball game yet, but so far in regards to what

he can do to get us excited, he's doing exactly that. And just getting this visit, I mean, I don't want to sound like the guy that acts like just getting a visit means anything, because it really doesn't. Right, if you don't get a kid to actually commit, then the visit

really wasn't worth anything. But I do think given the circumstances with Louisville, Pat Kelsey being at this level for the first time, and Louisville coming off of two years where they were awful, I mean, just getting this kid to make his first visit since de committee in Kentucky it's not something you know that we'll look back and say, well, you remember when he got that visit from that five star kid who didn't come here. That was awesome.

But it is at least an early sign of things heading in the right direction. I believe. I still think Arkansas is probably gonna where it's gonna be where he's gonna end up. He'snna follow Caliperi, but we shall see the

other visitors getting here tomorrow. I mentioned this guy earlier a Bubba car tray or which I actually actually listened to something the other day of him describe him pronouncing his name, and I don't think I'm way off there, But anyways, he is a forward kind of like a hybrid big that played at Long Beach State lifelast year. And he I mean, he's similar in a way to Javon Hadley who committed yesterday, meaning that it's just a guy that can

do a little bit of everything. And last I checked, if you have you know, I think you're gonna need guys who really excel in certain things, like for example, Rain Smith. He's here as a shooter. He's followed Pat Kelsey from Charleston, and he's got I mean, his role on this team is going to be to knock down three point shots, and he's done a great job of it so far in his career. Let's hope he

does it here at Louisville. But you know, Treyor averaged twelve points, eight and a half boards, four and a half assists, shot fifty one percent from the field. Not a three point shooter, because again he's more of a big. He's listed at six to six, but I mean, I think you could actually play him at the five, to be honest with you, but this is a guy who had to think four triple doubles this past year at Long Beach State, so he will be a fourth year guy

next year. He's played college basketball for three years. So this is the exact kind of guy that you see end up as a not just a role player, but has a specific role with the team that maybe isn't an All American caliber player, but he's an impactful guy that can help you win games and make a deep run on the tournament. We saw it in March, so it sounds like Louisville is believed to be in really good shape for these young men. So we shall see. So the other name that's visiting tomorrow

that I didn't get to yet. I kind of just forgot about it. But Ali Khalifa, the big man from BYU, who has numbers that just I'm telling you, man, this guy has, in my opinion, a stat line you'll never see recreated. Because he plays nineteen minutes a game. He averaged five points in three point seven rebounds, and he only shot thirty eight percent from the field. Like that alone, right there is a lousy

stat line. Lousy And I'll say that if he commits to Louisville because maybe he's great here and puts up trip of what those numbers are, but that like five points three rebounds, thirty eight percent from the field, you would think when this guy hits the portal that he would be lowering, he'd be going to a lower level school and he would have to, you know, kind of take a step down. Well, no, he's being recruited.

You know, I feel comfortable saying this. Louisville has a level of interest in this is not just some like stunt because they're hosting him for a visit. He's also considering following Mark Pope from BYU to Kentucky and then he's also considering staying at BYU. But what makes him, I guess, a hot commodity is he's he averaged four assists per game last year in nineteen minutes as a seven foot, two hundred and seventy pounds center. So he's a really

good passing big, and there's value there. In fact, in nineteen minutes a game, he averaged more assists last year than I believe anybody anybody on Louisville's team. So there's value in a big that can pass the ball. But he doesn't really like he's again, seven fo two hundred and seventy pounds, He's not exactly someone that I feel like would really fit the style of play that Pat Kelsey has played at Winthrop and at Charleston, So to me,

it's still is a head scratcher. But he's going to be here for a visit unless that's been canceled, and I've not seen anything that would suggest that the visit's not happening. So then on Saturday, Boopy Miller, the Wake Forest guard, he's going to be here for a visit. Coraan Johnson, another guard who's transferring from Washington after a really good freshman season, I'm

sorry, sophomore season, he'll be visiting as well. And then on Saturday, Trey Townsend, the Oakland transfer who had a good game against Kentucky, but he didn't really hurt him. It was Goalkie who really ended the calipari ara I suppose, but Trey Townsend was a really good player all year for Oakland, put up big numbers like nineteen and eight. I believe it was

something like that. And he'll visit on Sathaturday, that is, if he doesn't commit elsewhere, because he's also visiting Arizona and Ohio State before then, and maybe he makes a decision. We'll see two dames I didn't talk about earlier that have already visited. One is Deonta Maddox and he is somebody that

visited Louisville this past weekend. He visited Illinois, and I think a lot I don't know, you never know if it's like people just it's wishful thinking, or if there's like intel that he was going to make a decision after the visit, but he didn't commit to Louisville, and then he visited Illinois, and I think a lot of folks thought that Illinois kind of became the leader there because he's from Chicago. Well now he's visiting Xavier as we speak,

and you know, I guess Louisville is still in the mix here. And then the other guard, Nick Boyd, he visited last weekend as well. I've not heard anything about his visit other than it went great, which every kid says that. But he's also going to visit San Diego State this weekend. So I don't know if the interest is going to fade between those two. But I wouldn't say that Boyd is like a high priority right now.

And with Maddox, you know, it's anybody's guess. I just saw one of the insiders for Illinois claimed that some believe that Louisville is the leader and some say that maybe their last of the three, and that Maddox has been a guy that it's been tough to get a read on. That's what

the Illinois recruiting writer for twenty four to seven Sports said. So he did like the tweet that Javon Hadley posted yesterday announcing his commitment, which I think had people assuming that that means he's excited, But I don't really think that could they think That could mean anything, right. That could mean like, all right, well they've already got a guard, so I'm gonna go elsewhere. Or it could mean like, oh wow, I'd like to play with

that guy. So I don't put much into that. So anyways, on the Kentucky side, there's a handful of guys they're in on. As far as interest level, it's kind of tough to know, just because for what it's worth, Mark Pope really is just a few days on the job. But the big name that entered the portal last night, this is a guy that will probably have his choice of any school. To be honest with you, that is Jeremy Roach, the Duke transfer who I guess is going to

be using his fifth year. He is the fourth best player in the portal according to CBS Sports, and it sounds like Kentucky Saint John's in Arkansas are believed to be the three schools that have the best chance of landing him. And I have no clue which way where he's going to go or anything like that, but it's got to make Kentucky fans like feel a certain way knowing that the guy who left has a way better chance of getting this kid than

Mark Pope. And that's not even like a criticis. That's not Mark Pope's fault, that's just the situation. So these are the kind of guys maybe not in the portal, but like you know, big name gets that, Like Cal don't lose many recruiting battles, right, he doesn't. And it's just it's got to be a weird feeling knowing that when you see Cali Perry in on a player that Mark Pope wants, Mark Pope's not going to get him nine times out of ten. And that's not Mark Pope's fault, that's

just the situation. Cal left for Arkansas. You hired Mark Pope. I'm sure he's going to recruit talented freshman, but he's also gonna recruit the kind of guys he's been talking about the last few days, which is dudes who will you know, die to put on the uniform. And I'm not mocking him in saying like that's corny, because I get it, but that that sales pitch like what Mark Pope is selling Kentucky as right now with him as the coach is not only different, it's just it's a night and day difference.

So like what made Kentucky appealing to younger players that dreamed of being recruited by Kentucky when they got to be you know, sixteen years old or whatever, or kids who were in the portal and they never got a sniff from Kentucky because they were late bloomers and went under the radar. And now they're transferring and their hot commodities. What they thought of Kentucky that dream. I mean, it's still Kentucky, but that's not what Mark Pope is going to

sell them. Doesn't mean he can't get players, but it's just such as it's got to be a weird feeling knowing that of that recruitment, like Mark Pope maybe last among Patino in Cali Perry, because again we're talking Patino, Caliparry, Mark Pope. And again that's not his fault, doesn't mean he's not going to be a good coach. It's just this is a process.

This is so different. But I just don't know if Kentucky fans, despite how much they love Mark Pope and realized that he's you know, he's hitting all the notes and really reminding them of that era that wasn't talked about a whole lot, not because anybody forgot about it, but the nineties era was not really prominently mentioned, and they have, like you know, they honored

those teams that won titles and stuff and brought them back. But like you know, Cal's not exactly you know, Cal is the face of the program, and he's the head coach. It's his program. He wasn't really propping up those teams in the nineties because you know why, because Patino coached him. So Pope's gonna really take you back to that era. And there's a lot of folks my age, older, younger that probably fell in love with

Kentucky basketball during that time. And it's gonna make you feel good. But you know, if he puts together a roster that on paper is maybe like ninth in the SEC which let's be honest, that's realistic here, and that's say in year one, they really struggle because of this process, this adjustment, not only for a new coach, new philosophy, but just everything about Kentucky is gonna be so different. Like will their fans be patient? They'll

be more patient because it's Pope compared to if it wasn't. But at the end of the day, like if they're not good and Cali Perry is next year. That's gonna be a disastrous situation. And it's not because they're gonna say, how do we let this guy lead? Maybe some people will say that because facts are facts, you can't rewrite history. That thing needed to

end. It had run its course. But just the way it played out, with Pope being the guy that you know, you never thought mean a week ago, you know what everybody was talking about, Scott Drew bringing his top two recruiting class with him from Baylor to Kentucky. Now you know, it's anybody's guess who ends up on their roster. And again that's not to

say that they're gonna have nobody. They're gonna go start, you know, bringing in walk ons because I think seeing other players commit to schools, seeing other rosters kind of getting close to being you know, somewhat finalized, and knowing Kentucky has two guys on their team, three guys, I suppose, like that's not ideal, but like there's nobody to blame, Like Pope was hired when he was hired, and he's hit the ground running, and I'm

sure it's consuming every second of what he's doing. But I can feel the antsiness from Kentucky fans and I'm just curious if if that will eventually shift to all right, what the hell is this guy doing? Who the hell will we hire? And that would, you know, be unfair, but I kind of hope that happens. I kind of do all Right, Well, we'll revisit the standing on business coming up here on the other side, so make sure you stick around. Also, Uh, I want to want to

get back to the text line. Some good stuff coming in there, and well, I'm gonna make sure this is actually a legitimate thing being said by Trillie Donovan. But somebody has sent in a screenshot on the text line about a potential staff situation for Mark Pope that I think would probably make Kentucky fans happy. So again, we got a lot to get to before we run out of times, so stick with us right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

All right, So, if you are going to put your house up on the market and uh list it, put it up for sale, move somewhere else before you do anything as far as that process, just make sure that you do it with Elan and Needland. I mean, it's a no brainer. But then again. You know, maybe maybe you guys are unaware of Eveland and Eland. I highly doubt that considering they've been doing this very successfully and that is helping people with the buying and selling process in real estate.

They've been doing it since nineteen seventy six, so they're gonna make it smooth. Just the thought of moving everything that comes with it, the entire process, I'm not even talking about it, you know, packing up boxes and moving. I'm talking just like you know, mortgages and paperwork and you know, just words like scrow and it just it gives me anxiety because you know, I don't like being I'm not really a grown up. I've been

able to kind of get by being like halfway or grown up. But none of that's a worry for you if you trust Eland and Eland, because they're going to help you throughout the process, make it as smooth as possible. And they're going to list your home for just one percent. That's right, they will list your home for one percent, which means you're gonna save a lot of money throughout the process. You'll end up keeping a lot of your hard earned money right there in your pocket. You can it can help you,

maybe you pay somebody to move for you. Maybe you I don't know, save it and go on vacation. So what I do know is Eatland and Needland. That's who can do that for you, So trust them. Eland dot com is the website. Five two five hundred is the number.

Again it is Eatlin and Eland tell him I sent you, all right, So I mentioned this before going to break And again I don't know how I mean, I don't know if this is one thousand percent true, but I will say, truly Donovan putting stuff out there on his discord, on his you know, his pay you know, behind a paywall or whatever it may be. You know, I tend to trust that, you know, he's

getting good information. And apparently what he has shared recently is that Orlando Antigua may not want to leave Kentucky. So this is what truly said that there is apparently a four hundred thousand dollars retention bonus coming up in June for Antigua. His wife loves Lex and he doesn't want to leave again, and neither his coach Antigua. So that would be huge for Mark Pope as far as just keeping some some level of you know, recruiting prowess on that staff.

Again, I would say that if that would work, you'd have to well, I don't know, maybe you tell coach Antigua to just do whatever to help get players, and you know, we'll we'll get them up caught up to speed on culture, that kind of stuff and whatnot. But you know Orlando Antigua going into a living room without John Kella Perry but instead Mark Pope and selling all that Kentucky can do for you and then mentioning that they want guys who would die to put on the uniform. That just doesn't add up

because it's so different. But if they could keep him, that would be a big addition for them. But I'm not sure if that's gonna end up happening or not, because there hasn't been been and any staffer is officially named to the Caliperry staff down in Fayetteville. But if you remember the reports were that he's taking everybody with him, well, maybe he wants to take Anti

when he don't want to go with him. That'd be a real shocker, though, if he tries to stay and not follow Cow because I mean, those two guys are really really tight, all right, So Diebler the coach that got hired at Ohio State. JA. I get him mixed up because there's two Deblers, there's two Deebler brothers. And the reason I'm bringing this

up is because, yeah, the Jake Diebler is the new coach. John Diebler is his brother, who, by the way, is the school's all time three point leader and he's a current He's currently an assistant coach for Thad

Motto, who he played for Ohio State at Butler. Well, they tried to, you know, he tried to hire his brother on the staff, but Ohio State said no because it was nepotism, Like nepotism laws guy in the way, and they're not allowing Jake Diebler to hire his brother, which, like I think everybody knows what nepotism is and why it's you know, something that has to be in place, just because it would be damn near impossible not to give favoritism to somebody that you are related to over somebody that

you're not. I mean, it could be done, but you know, it's just a you could think you're being objective and fair and not considering the fact that this person is your brother, your mother, your father, whatever. But like you don't know, you're unable to be truly to the core, objective and unbiased. But this happens everywhere, right, Like this is I mean you got Samson's son, yes, I mean a Pearl's son at Auburn. Yeah, I'm not sure. I feel like there's more to this.

In Ohio State, what have they ever cared about these rules? Right? I mean they must have There must be a personal thing between an administrator and the brother and this is an assumption obviously, But why else would they reject this. I've not heard of any family relative trying to be hired by the head coach who's a family member at a high level school where they didn't

let it happen. You know, Patrino hire his son's whole family. Patrino had two son in laws on the staff, a brother at one point and his son. I mean, Bobby did it, but in the end it was actually because Bobby couldn't get anybody to work for him for obvious reasons.

That was a big factor in it. But I just felt like there's something more to this, not that they know, not that they think Deebler the uh, you know, the better player and the guy that's an assistant and Butler is a bad guy or anything, but maybe they just don't want that youthful of a staff. I'm not sure, but I just to me that stood out because again, a lot of places you'd be like, and I don't mean schools, I mean the workforce, you'd be like, well,

no brainer, you can't do that. But it happens all the time, and college basketball in college football all the time. So I don't know. I will say this if you remember I went to and I'm sure not a lot of you remember because you don't keep up with my schedule, but I did go to Butler to watch Butler and Creighton play in February. The weekend I went up for the NBA All Star festivities in Indianapolis, and Hinkle was

great. Got a chance to stay after the game and go out on the court and talk to coach Baghee and my buddy Andrew Linz who's now working for fad Matas as a kind of a director of ops kind of guy. But it was good to reconnect with those guys. But also they let a lot of kids play, you know, just shoot basketball on the Hinkle court, and it's mostly like kids of of of the you know, children of the

of the coaching staff and things like that. We sat kind of with the with the I guess with like the parents of the players and the and the wives and family of the coaches. That was kind of where we were. Well, sure enough, Moose was in this real competitive not a basketball game, but it was basically two three year olds, you know, just trying to steal the ball from each other, running around, chasing each other around,

having a good old time. And I did not know it until my buddy Lenz came out and told me just so you know, your your son is competing right there with with with deebler son. So he came over to me and was like, hey, is this your son. I was like, yeah, that's you know, he's like he is he is picking on him, and I said, no, they're just playing. He's like, okay, well he's kind of awful. So I just want to make sure

he wasn't like hitting your kid. I'm like, well, okay, now I know that to keep an eye out for Deebler's son because he could be you know, could be a handful. But if you could find an article or story that references a similar higher being blocked like this one, I would

be shocked. Just interesting. But anyways, sticking with the highest state, I just want to give you some numbers really quickly here because we oftentimes talk about nil dollar amounts for players, and I'm still love to the impression that nobody truly has a real good idea of how much money is being spent. I think it's exaggerated what each player gets. I think players ask for a certain number and realize because let's just put it this way, the market is

going to determine what you're paid. And if you're asking for a million dollars and the best thing you're gonna get is four hundred thousand, which to me is still a lot of money for player, Like that's what you're gonna take, Like you're not gonna you're gonna hold out right, You're gonna take what

you can get because that's that's how it works. So I'm not sure we'll ever truly have the transparency that you know we have in pro sports, because this kind of is pro sports, but you know, kind of isn't supposed to be. But R. J. Young, who covers college football for Fox Sports, he put these numbers out earlier today. Ohio State Boosters reportedly

spent thirteen million dollars in NIL on their roster. So Ohio State the school that not only you would think has more resources than most if you remember one of the things that was brought up during the it's not like they fell off the face of the earth. They just started losing to Michigan. Like that's the ultimate difference in Ohio State, right, Like that's just the only thing that's changed in recent years. They're still doing the same thing, dominating,

winning at a high level. But Michigan's got the best of them. And they did lose to Missouri in that bowl game, but they didn't have some of their best players. But that's thirteen million. And again, they knew this was the year they had to be competitive. They had some players that were on their way out that said that, you know, ANIL wasn't really

in place for some of like the linemen and all that. So I'm emphasizing that because thirteen million is them spending more than they probably ever spent by a lot. And I say ever, like it's been going on for decades, it's still relatively new. But the Boosters spent thirteen million on ANIL Ohio State. They spent eleven point four million on their assistant coaching staff. They made some staff changes again, they're trying to not lose to Michigan anymore, and

they're pulling in all the reinforcement staff changes. You know they brought in was a Chip Kelly who's now there oc or did yes. Yeah, so you know, thirteen million for players, eleven point four million for new assistant coaches. Ryan Day's still there, right, yes, Okay, I guess Ryan

Day. You know, ten million is what he gets paid annually, which I guess that checks out considering he's you know, at a at a place like Ohio State, so just in one year and it won't be an annual thing, although I guess it could be, right, Like you know, your assistant coaching salaries are, I mean, like, for example, they're paying ten million year for their head coach, eleven point four for all of their assistants. So I guess that is kind of an annual thing you're gonna

pay. And thirteen million wouldn't be shocked if that's a number that goes up every year. So Ohio State, this is what they spent from top to bottom for personnel for football, thirty four million dollars for one team thirty four million dollars in a calendar year to put your team together. It's pro sports, I mean. But then again, like the way we have to go about it makes it at times feel like it's not. But is there a number that shows how much they brought in strictly ex as far as revenue.

They've been losing money in football for a long time. Wow, yeah, I mean as far as just the And when I say losing money, I mean, like you know, from what they generate as far as business. The money they get from their TV deal is way. I mean, it's going to cover everything, you know what I mean, that's true. And you get to keep in mind that thirteen million from nil is not a high

state. That's other people. That's not their money. So you know, I guess twenty one million point four on your just your staff altogether, that's probably not that different than anybody else. And also thirteen million, I wouldn't be shocked if there's schools that spent more than that, or are schools that had, you know, more money to give than that, because the schools aren't spending it. But it's uh, it's wild man. So it's clearly

an issue for some fans just because it's so different. I guess there's some level of purity that you felt whenever guys weren't getting paid. But there's there's no going back. I mean, in fact, it's probably only going to be even more evident that it's not an amateur sport. It's clearly pro sports, probably every year. But if you want to be good, you're the team you cheer for has got to be in this They got to be in

this space with nil and free agency, and they've got to excel. I mean, even if you're top dog, like for example, Yukon won back to back national championships and you know they're adding pieces as we speak. I think they landed a big man earlier today. So no matter how good you are, this is now the new world. This is now how it This

is just how it works. All right. Let's go to the text line five two six five three zero seven nineties the number if you guys would like to uh to text in this text says Nick, do you know who won the fight at the baseball game last night between the Louisville fan and the Kentucky fan? So I don't think it was a louis A fan in a Kentucky fan. I think it was. I wish it was just because not that I wish anybody would fight, but I think it would be. It would

be it would be such a story about this rivalry. At the Louisville Kentucky game that was taking place in Louisville, the baseball game, there was a fight that led to arrest and it was you know, big Blue Bob talking about Mark Pope being the man, and then you know, maybe Cardinal Cardinal Danny had enough of it and started started talking smack and letting him know that, you know, Pat Kelsey's the man. Like that would be childish and

you know, unnecessary, but would it shock you? No. But I think it was a Louisville fan and a Louisville fan they got in a fight and I don't know why, so I'm not even really sure it was a fight. I think, you know, it just ended up. And I

saw the video which didn't show a fight. Maybe the fight happened prior to that, but there was just a video where you had like cops on the concourse there at Jim Patterson Stadium, you know, settling down a contentious scene there'll be some kind of like some sorry for the for the long pause there, there's going to be some kind of situation that makes the news this summer where Louisville because it's because the rivalry is the derby, could be the rivalry's

back on, you know what I mean, Like it's just back because we're both starting over. And clearly they don't fear Louisville right now, and Louisville, I mean, I don't know if any Louisville fans truly ever feared Kentucky, but like if you did, I get it. They dominated, and Cow was a guy who would go get really almost any player he wanted more often than not. Well, now like that's not who they are anymore,

so should be fun, but again I don't condone violence. All right, quick break, we'll come back on the other side to wrap this thing up on Sports Talk seven ninety. That's right, we are wrapping things up here, and as soon as this show ends, I got a jet out of here and head to my son's baseball game two games a week, which you know, he loves it. I love watching him play. He's having fun. But he's three years old, so I feel like that's you know,

it's a big commitment, but hey, you got to start somewhere. And so far he has loved playing any sport, which has been fun for us, no doubt. Last year, I remember you were nervous about how you would act about Moose playing baseball. So you've got a year under your belt as a dad baseball dad. How are you feeling this year? Well? I love it because he's he craves to be coached and like wants to get better. He's competitive. He asks me all the time, like how he

did, how his swing was. And it's not just because he wants his dad to say you did great, because like he wants to get better. He loves it. But as far as my worry about, like you know, letting instincts kick in and maybe being like that crazy parent, I mean it's they're not really they don't keep score, so like it's it's not there yet at three years old. But you know, I I don't think I'll have any issues because I know myself and I'm not somebody that ever calls any

kind of scene. That's just so not me at all. And I don't mean say that to brag. It's just that's not in all my personality. I'm not somebody that whatever seek confrontation or anything like that. But you know, I hear other parents, you know, and not even just you know some parents in this league where I'm like, i mean, come on,

they're three, Like what're we doing here? And then there's other leagues going on at the same place that have older kids playing, and I mean it's pretty common you get like not fights, but just I mean it's what there's one thing to be into it and like cheering on and yeah, yeah,

you know, like that's there's nothing wrong with that. That's awesome, but it's just like you know, yelling at umpires and you know, just kind of like parents of other teams, like they're on the other side, right, like one bleachers for this team, one bleachers for that team, and you just like feel the tension that like they don't like each other. And

that's just weird to me. But then again, like it's how it is, like who's your your your favorite player and anything is going to be your kid, right And it's not something you can just not be into, I think, but I used to before I you know, became a dad.

I've been a dad now for a long time. But when my daughter was young, when my son wasn't born yet, that's when I started to think, like, you know, how am I going to react well now, Like you know, if my kids didn't play sports at all, I mean, it might make me sad for a minute, but like you know, Vinetti's told me that one time, and it was great advice because you know, he thought that would be the way with John and football and all that.

But like you know, you love your kid regardless of what they want to do. And to go because I gotta go to this game. See you guys tomorrow.
