Alex our White lawyers to Distracted Driver dot Com and you know, they of course are our postgame show sponsor and we will have the postgame show this evening. But again big thanks to Alex for having us and hopping on. Also Eric Benson, it was really cool to hear them, and you guys heard. You guys heard a lot of it when it comes to just sort of the background

and how they wanted to help out. And I realized whenever they were explaining it to me, how I just took it for granted that you know what, when I turned sixteen and I had a driver's license for the first time, I had a car, my father handed down one of his older cars to me, and I didn't have to worry about when I started working or started my adult life, like what am I going to do

for a vehicle. And there's so many people out there that aren't fortunate to have that, including those that are in the foster care system that are clearly at a disadvantage than most people. So a really good cause. And you know, not to be corny, but I feel like we've never with trust me, I'm not making this political, but we are clearly very divided right now as a country, more so than I can ever remember in my lifetime. So I feel like the sentimental good stories of you know,

reminding us that there are a lot of good. There is a lot of good out there when it comes to people that are doing kind acts for others. That hits a little different now than it ever did, just because again, if you turn on the television, if you pop open the Texic or the toxic wasteland of social media that you know, you're reminded more often than you're more often reminded how crazy we are right now at times, not everybody, but obviously like it's you know, it's it's

I'll put it. So, I'm just ready for the selection to be over. But what I love hearing is that whenever they do, meaning Eric and Alex explain to other you know, partners essentially right, those who can help get them a vehicle up and running that maybe needed some work because it's a little bit older. They're willing to help, and it sounds like they don't even hesitate to say, yes, that's a great cause, we'd love to help out like that.

That's again, to go back to what I said a moment ago, those kind of stories are are always worth sharing, and it's always nice to be reminded that there are good people out there doing good stuff to help others in need. But it just seems as if it it it it's needed more now than maybe it's ever been so. And also they've got Matt Hoffman is as Eric mentioned he was going to pick him. I thinkt gonna pick hm up from the airport. So yeah, they've got their

big event tomorrow, the the Rad Revival. And if you are somebody like myself who loves the eighties and nineties, then I mean this is this is your event, so uh yeah, it'll be uh tomorrow at Paristown Hall. And I think I may have figured out a little date night for me and the wife, which you know, we don't get enough date nights at least not as much

as we used to. So all right, let's uh, let's let's dive back in here to uh to to the football side of things, and we'll have the pregame show coming up here at six point thirty to get into you know, the Boston College matchup specifically. But when it comes to the Colin Lacey news, I would say that is you know, his decision is clearly an unpopular one in the eyes of most people. To be honest with you, I mean, if you're a Louisville fan, this is certainly

not news that you were happy to hear about. I'm sure, although if I was gonna, if I was forced to maybe provide a silver lining as far as a potential positive here, I would say that if he comes back, then you know that's a win because this year, like if you told, if you told, let's let's put it this way again. I'm not trying to act like anybody that's upset and just turned off by this new world of college athletics where players can do what Colin is doing,

Like I totally understand it. But if you said to a Louisville fan after the loss to Miami, when you essentially realize you're two and two in league play at this point and you can still have a good year, no doubt, like I think they could go beat Clemson and if they do, hell yeah. And I've never been somebody that says they've got to go to the AEC Championship annually for it to be viewed as a as a really good season. So if I would have said

after the Miami loss. Look, would you put Colin Lacy on the shelf if it meant you had him healthy all next year and he gets that year of eligibility. I don't know how you would answer it, but I would say yes. And it's not because I'm writing off this year as if it just doesn't matter anymore because they've lost three games. But he's a really good player, and I think you you know, not to say you'd be just fine without him, because clearly he's a valuable guy.

But I think this would have been a lot different. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you know. We're learning ourselves how we react to this because it's all brand news, So I don't know how I would react or how others

would have reacted. But if it was a hey, he's still dealing with some nagging pain discomfort from the collarbone injury and the surgery to where in order of him potentially getting hurt again, he's just gonna get healthy and utilize the loophole if you will, that he could come back for an extra year if he doesn't burn the full year of eligibility. I would have said, yeah, I mean that makes sense. Now he still might come back

to Louisville. But what he's doing is knowing he's got options and knowing he's got the ability to go put some more money in his pocket. And it's again, I get both sides of it meeting. I get why fans are bothered by it and turned off and thinking that, you know, the college sports landscape that they grew to love is now not what it once was. Like, I get all that, but I also get it from his perspective.

And what I mean by that is, you know, these guys are employees now and this has turned into a lucrative job that you can only do for a few years for a lot of these athletes. So seeing them prioritize their own needs and you know, relentlessly pursue the best possible opportunities for themselves and their immediate family, that shouldn't be a surprise. It's new. We're not used to it. But if you really think about it from that perspective,

I think you would do the same thing. You know, because what Colin Lacey's doing is really I think I think with the overwhelming majority of the American workforce would do. I mean, he's got a chance to extend his career as a college football player and make more money that could potentially I don't want to say it could be life changing money, but I think Colin Lacy rather it's it here, it's at Louisville, his first job, whatever it is after football, and I don't know, maybe maybe he

does play in the NFL for a few years. Maybe he plays in the NFL for a long time. But I would say unless he uses his NFL money and invest it in like a business that's booming, whatever career he would get in after football, Like let's just say he's a practice squad guy for a couple of years and then he realizes he's going to have to find

a career post football. I'd be willing to bet that next year, if it's at Louisville or if it's elsewhere, he'll make more money in twenty twenty five playing college football than he probably will at whatever that job is that he does after football. So like it it is.

I don't want to say it's full for him to not take advantage of it, although I kind of believe that, but again, to say that it's foolish to not quit on your team, like they just sound so off and it is so again, it's you know, what I think the NCAA should do here is make some changes to this rule about red shirting. That rule exists for different reasons.

And what I mean by that is the reason they started letting you play a fifth year if you only played in it at maximum at the MAXI amount of four games, like it doesn't count as a year of eligibility. They did that because guys were on the depth chart at second a third string for two years at times playing one snap in one game and two three snaps in the second season in different games, and that would be half their college career like that. You know that

didn't make any sense. You know, this used to be there used to be a saying for that, and you know, may rest in peace. He's passed away recently and it's very sad. But Steve Kragthorpe, like there used to be a thing where oival fans would say you got crackthorped. He would burn years of eligibility without even thinking like, hey, we're terrible, We're going to have three or four wins. Why are you playing, you know as true freshmen on

special teams and wasting a year of eligibility. I don't think the insteadly made that rule change because of Cragthorpe, But it was intended to not burn an entire year for young guys who got their first taste of action on special teams and then never played again. It's not necessarily meant for guys that are doing what Colin Lacy's doing. But again, right now, as the rule stands, he's taking

advantage of it. And again I wish I had answers to the nil component, And I don't, meaning like I don't know if he got paid up front, if he's still owed, much like I don't know the stipulations of his contract. But as I've said the last couple of days since this became a big story, there's nothing in a contract that states that he has to do anything in regards to playing football. Because they're technical was still not allowed to pay for play. It's probably a contract

about marketing appearances. And maybe he sticks around and does his marketing appearances till December, viniets the portal and dips and goes out where Like that's also a real possibility that could play out. All right, we got a break coming up here in just a moment, But I did not expect this to get as much interaction on social

media as it did. But I posted this earlier today, and yes I did take this idea from a UK account that I don't It's called Rare Rookies and I only know of this not because I follow Rare Rookies. But KSR was talking about it the other day and I saw Matt's cliff that he posted on Twitter where somebody put together a just a graphic that showed the headshots of all I guess the former Kentucky players that

have transferred that are still playing college basketball today. And it hit me that for Louisville Man, with the turnover they've had just in the last few years, there's so many guys that you've probably forgotten about, like you don't even remember. So I put up all the there's sixteen guys that I posted that played at u of L in the last three years that are still playing college basketball. And again it doesn't have I mean, some of the

pictures don't have the name of the team. Some do, but it doesn't have a name, it just has their face. And there's some guys that I completely forgot about. But I mean there used to be, like you know, there used to be a back and forth between Louisville fans, and I used to do this with my buddies, like, hey, name the most random and easily forgotten former Louisville basketball or football player, like a guy that you know, you would never think of until somebody brought it up, like,

oh yeah, that guy was pretty good. That won't be a thing anymore because they'll be endless amounts of guys who you don't remember at all because they were there a year and transferred like everybody else does now. But this was a wild run where Louisville, of course, was in a situation from a basketball standpoint that we hope

they'll never be in again. We never thought they would be, but that's why you've had, Like there's a lot of roster turnover now in college sports because of the new rules, but with Louisville, it's been insane on the basketball side, just because of the obvious situation where they've you know, they've been they were terrible for a while. But Dre Davis, I bet there's people listening that did not realize Dre Davis was still playing college basketball. He's at Old Miss

matt Cross, remember that name. He was at Louisville, transferred to actually started his career at Miami, transferred to Louisville. Then he went to UMass to play for Frank Martin. Now he's a fifth or sixth year guy at SMU. Fabio Vasilli played here for one year for Kenny Payne. And the conversations about some of these guys, I mean, you know, it's another one of those flashbacks to like, Wow, can you believe we did that? Can you believe we hired Kenny Payne? And then like tried to, you know,

act like it wasn't the worst thing ever. I mean again, I realized pretty quickly, but like we talked ourselves into oh yeah, Fabio Basilly, he's the guy, He's the answer for Kenny Payne, and clearly that didn't work out. Devin Ree showed up here, played for a year in Kenny's first season. Shooter from Mississippi. He's now at Louisiana Tech. Camari Lands remember that guy, and this is crazy Kamary Lands. He's now at Middle Tennessee State. So he played at

four different high schools in high school. He's now played three different played for three different schools. In college basketball. This guy's played for a new team for seven straight years. I mean that's insane. He was at Arizona State last year. Now now he's at Middle Tennessee State. Roosevelt Wheeler he's at East Tennessee State. When he transferred from Louisville ended up at Richmond or a No DCU, and then now he's at Etsu. Jalen Withers a sixth year senior who's

at North Carolina. And then the others are guys that played here recently, like within the last year, so like Tyler Johnson's at Wake Forest, Caleb Glenn is at FAU Jalen not Jalen, But what is his name? DePaul helped me out here. He's a local kid. Why can I not think of his name? JJ Trent, I don't know why, why I completely blanked out like that. And then Dannalo Danalo Javnovich, like you may don't even know who that is. He played here last year and he's now at Milwaukee.

And then Curtis Williams, he's now at Georgetown. Good shooter from last year's team, Trey White is now at Illinois, his third school in three years. Dennis Evans remember the seven foot ten guy I mean, he wasn't that tall, but he looked like it. He's now at Grand Canyon. Sky Clark is at UCLA. And then who else was it? Mike James is at n C State. And then and then also check this out, Brandon Helly Haffield. I forgot to even put him in this list. He's also at

n C State. Also, Austin helped me out with this earlier. I forgot about Kron Davis. He is now at Louisiana Lafayette. And then this is a name that I would be shocked if if you're a doallhard little ven you remember this name. But if you're not, and you casually follow you,

you probably don't know who this is. Gabe was Knitzer, So Gabe Wiz Knitzer was here for I think a year or two and he transferred to Ohio and he decided not to not to use his fifth year, so he you know, he didn't take advantage of the COVID year. So anyways, hope those guys have a good life and a good career the rest of the way. But man, it's nice to have a fresh start here for louisvill Hoops.

All right, we got to get to our last break, we'll come back here on the other side, put the finishing touches on a game day edition of Coffee and Company, fuel by Thornton's coming to you live from Alex R. Why Lawyers, the offices of Alex R. Wright Lawyers to Distracted Driver dot Com on Sports Talk seven ninety. What a week it's been here with Coffee and Company. I'm sad that it's coming to an end now, I got to wait till Monday to take in the experience that

is Coffee and Company. Nope, you're in luck tonight. In fact, at six point thirty, we'll get started with the pregame show kickoffs at seven thirty, and then after the game comes to an end late tonight, you have an open invitation and I encourage you all to join me on the postgame show presented by Alex R. Lawyers to Distracted Driver dot Com. Certainly appreciate them for having us out

here today. But I'm I'm I'm picking up on the vibes that Alex was was was putting out earlier in regards to just optimistic because I and again I don't think I've been. I mean i've been I've been critical and I've been uh, I mean, I don't think I've been overly animated as far as like losing my mind over you know, I mean me being overly negative. Really wasn't even the Kenny painnair. That was more so just like me acknowledging what was happening. It wasn't even an opinion.

It was just the reality of the situation. And then I would get I would get hot whenever people would try to like act as if we weren't witnessing what we were all witnessing. So I say all that to say, like, I'm just I'm just frustrated because I know this team has the ability to be better than the record shows, and I think tonight is the night where it's not

going to move the needle nationally. If Louisville beats Boston College by a few touchdowns, because you know that's that wouldn't be a shock because I think most people view

Louisville as a better team. But if they were able to win, and I don't mean about three touchdowns, but if they win and they look good doing it, they play clean, put it all together without you know, a bunch of mistakes, that could go a long way for these guys, this team, and it could really put them in a good mental place as they head down the stretch here and you know, the final four games of

the season. Crazy, how quickly the season's gone by. All right, Well, we'll take a thirty minute break essentially for the for the for the for the pregame show that's getting ready to start here at six point thirty. And then again don't forget postgame show will start as soon as it ends, and we will talk to you tonight. This has been another edition of Coffee and Company, Phil by Thornton's Again. Big thanks to Alex R. White Lawyers, to Distracted Driver dot Com for having us out today.
