Io purtroppo non conosco molto l'inglese e cerco sempre di capire quello che mi dicono. Finora non c'è stato alcun problema.

Anselmo mi aveva detto che oggi sarebbe venuta una coppia di scozzesi a fare colazione. Sono entrati verso l'ora di pranzo e avevano l'aria stanca. Avevano anche moltissima fame e mi hanno chiesto di consigliargli qualcosa. Gli ho detto che facciamo una focaccia farcita con mortadella e burrata davvero strepitosa. Loro hanno fatto di sì con la testa e sembravano curiosi di provare la nostra focaccia. Dopo aver ordinato, si sono seduti ad un tavolino.

Quando gli ho portato la focaccia, ho chiesto loro se andava tutto bene. Da quello che ho capito erano stati alla sagra della vernaccia la sera prima. Avevano degustato diversi tipi di vernaccia, forse un po' troppi. Non potevano guidare per tornare a casa. E così avevano provato a prenotare un taxi. Purtroppo qui in zona non ci sono molti taxi, e quelli che ci sono hanno prezzi esorbitanti.

Avevano quindi deciso di dormire in macchina e stamattina non si sentivano benissimo. Ho consigliato loro di riposarsi e poi di andare a cena in un ristorante in città specializzato in bistecca. sarebbero sentiti come nuovi.

You know what I'm going to ask you here, don't you? I think alcun. Yeah, why is it non c'è stato nessun problema? We could also say non c'è stato nessun problema, but we have the alternative of using... alcun, alcuno, alcuna and they are different from the plural forms alcuni and alcune which mean several, a number of And in this case, when we use them in a negative structure with singular nouns, they are the equivalent of nessuno.

Maybe slightly more formal. Okay, va bene. So it's more common in the spoken language to say, oh, non c'è nessun problema. But if you want to be a little bit more formal, you can say, oh, non c'è alcun problema. Okay. Let's continue.

Anselmo mi aveva detto che oggi. Sarebbe venuta una coppia di scozzesi a fare colazione. Okay. Anselmo mi aveva detto so, Anselmo is the owner of the B, he is giving advanced warning to Lorenzo. Are we talking about having breakfast or are we just having to talking about you know having something to eat? Uh no, in Italian is having breakfast uh So it's a bit strange that they arrived uh around the lunchtime. Okay. Maybe it was a long flight. Maybe they were too deadline or something. So no entrati versolora di pran. So they came in around lunchtime.

See, and we in season one we came across this nice uh set phrase, avere l'aria plus uh an adjective, and the adjective has to agree as it is the case here with aria, so aria stanka. Avevano anche moltissima fame e mi hanno chiesto di consigliargli qualcosa. So every family means to be hungry. literally to have hunger avevano anche moltissima fame, they were also very hungry, moltissima fame, and mi hanno chiesto, and they asked me, di consigliargli qualcosa

to recommend to them something. It's quite a tricky one to pronounce. Okay. In as an alternative to avoid uh those uh two yeah sound and a very long um verb there. We could have said mi hanno chiesto di consiliare loro qualcosa, the more formal, indirect object pronoun, let's say. Yeah, good. Okay, so consiliare loro. Okay. So there is always uh a plan B. Gli ho detto che facciamo una focaccia farcita con mortadella e burrata.

Davvero strepitosa. Oh, a lovely word, strepitosa. Strepito is noise. Si, it's a noise, si. So, would strepitoso mean noisy? Yes, you could also use it with that meaning. I guess it's not. Very common, but probably in the literature, in the written language. I think I've also seen it in music. So when you're playing a piece. So I think you sometimes get the instruction play this strepitos or um noisily.

I don't know, cleverously. Interessante. It's so nice to see all those Italian words in music. Adagio veloce. Si, si. It's a nice way to practice the language as well. So, gli ho detto che facciamo una focaccia farcita. Quella tongue twister dire: facciamo una focaccia farcita. Ma è vero, non ci avevo pensato. Facciamo una focaccia farcita. So, I told them. Che facciamo that we make una focaccia farcita, a stuffed focaccia con mortadella e burrata.

U mortadella e burrata cheese, mamma mia, davvero strepitosa. So here we're not saying that it's a very noisy focaccia. No, it's like uh amazing, fantastic, out of this world, buonissima. That's probably the more common use of strepitoso, strepitosa. Sì, di fatti possiamo dire una notizia strepitosa, ho una notizia strepitosa hanno fatto di sì, con la testa, e sembravano curiosi. So they nodded with their heads. Far fare di sì or di no con la testa is to nod or shake your head.

E sembravano scuriosi di provare la nostra focaccia, and they seem curious to try a focaccia. In one of the previous episodes we commented on the fact that the verb fare can have so many meanings or functions in Italian so fare di sì literally to make of yes it means to nod with your head as you said so fare di sì fare di no

It sounds natural to say, ho chiesto loro se andava tutto bene. Sì, sì, sì. Sì, è più naturale direi in italiano. Va tutto bene, sì. Ok. So, from what I understood, erano stati tra passato prossimo, they had been... alla sagra della vernaccia La sera prima del So Vernaccia is uh an Italian wine. See, a white wine. Okay. So they were they had been at the Vernaccia Festival

Mm-hmm. And we already know what sagra is in Italian because in uh in uh the season one uh we spoke about la sagra del cocomero, so the festival so it's something so typical of Italian and I think Sagra is also an indication of the time of the year because the sagre tend to happen more often in the nice season, although there is uh scope for sagra. Eh. Avevano degustato diversi tipi di vernaccia.
