Syria Raid, Hong Kong Fire Aftermath

An Israeli military raid on a village in southern Syria this morning has killed at least 13 people and injured at least 24 others. It's the deadliest attack by a foreign nation on Syria since the ousting of former dictator Bashar al-Assad last year. The Israeli military says it was there to capture two members of a Lebanese militant group.

Officials from Hong Kong's anti-corruption agency say the arrests include two directors of a consultancy firm that was advising on maintenance work at the complex. Currently, 128 people are confirmed dead, and as many as 200 are missing. CNN's Hanako Montgomery has more information on why the fire spread so quickly.

They have said of course that this apartment complex was under construction at the time and it was encased in this mesh net, bamboo scaffolding and also this highly flammable material called polystyrene. Now authorities have said that when the polystyrene caught

fire it caused the windows in the building to break and then the fire then spread inside one building from floor to floor and then of course because the bamboo scaffolding was then also on fire the debris from that was also spreading from building to building Authorities are also saying that fire alarms in all eight buildings of the complex weren't working as they should at the time of the blaze. UPS says a fleet of its planes will stay grounded during the busy holiday season.
