Clippers work their magic in Orlando 96-87

There are only seven left. They needed this one after a loss in Cleveland yesterday, and they were able to beat the Orlando Magic at their own game. They want to pull you into the mud, into the muck. They want to drag you down with them, drag you down to where their field goal percentage is because their defense is that good and the Clippers only shot forty four percent from the field, but they hit so many big shots when they had to and their defense was even

better than Orlandos when it needed to be. And the five offensive rebounds big time. Just an incredible victory. And Kawhi Leonard struggled with his shot because the Orlando Magic will do that to you. Eight of twenty two. Typically you say that's an off game. It is. I'm okay with it because he got to twenty two shots. He didn't see that he was three of thirteen and curl up and go in the feudal position, because Kawhi would never do that. He's a top seventy five player. Ever,

this is what he does. Continues to believe in the next shot. Remember the game and the game winner against Sacramento he had. He was off that game, but he said the Kobe line, I'm going oh for thirty before I go ohver nine, before I go over ten. I'm gonna keep firing. He believes in that next shot going in, and his first two buckets of the fourth quarter were crucial. He had eight of his twenty one in the fourth.

Some came during inconsequential time. You could say that runout with the dunk as I Vista Zubas gave it to him in transition to put him up. I think by ten game was in hand. But not those two buckets to start the fourth quarter. Not that tough fade away over Franz Wagner and then the little baseline righty push shot tough from Kawhi. This Clippers team overcame some shooting slumps in the ballgame. We expected it to happen. First quarter, they go about three minutes and fifteen seconds without a

mad field goal. They're down by six heading out of the first quarters, twenty eight to twenty two. But something interesting we saw, and this is how I knew there was a different level of sense of urgency from coach Lou. Kawai came back in late in the first quarter. Drew Ju Banks had a really bad turnover. He and coach Lou had a conversation. He got pulled. Kawai came in with a minute left in the first quarter, after it had already come out. It doesn't ever come back in

again this time he did. Still started the second I think played the entire second quarter. Started the second with the Clippers down six. Zuu batoum dj Kawhi, Bogie and Zoo started to get to work. When the Clippers took the lead, it was big Zoo in that second quarter. Zoo gets here's a bucket and is staring down the Magic bench. I think he was getting into it with Mo Wagner, former Laker Michigan guy, brother of Franz on the bench. He's out with an ACL injury. Sucks, but

I think they were talking some junk. The Euros. Is that what so? Brian Shaw says. They call themselves and Mo Wagner German. They probably have some history. I don't know how much how friendly it was, but if Eata zubats a little fire under him, then he gets a putback and one the next possession down to put him

up thirty one, two thirty. The Clippers would end up on a thirteen to two run after Viata Zubatch drew a foul in the second quarter, went to the free throw line hit both and the Magic were in a deep funk. They had just two points. Midway through the second quarter. The Clippers defense clamp City traveled. It was incredible. The Clippers ended up getting up by nine after what would be a fourteen to one run at forty to thirty one. Orlando went one for their first thirteen shots.

Way went one for thirteen to start the second quarter from the field with five turnovers. Incredible, but then the Clippers gave it back after being up by nine. Hardened turnover Corey Joseph three after they had missed ten straight threes, hard at his float blocked Han's field goal. Now it's forty to thirty six. Done turnover, Ben Caro layups seven tozer magic run. Clippers only up by two. Kawhi misses the three. Casey p three and just like that, the

Clippers are down forty one to forty. They were up by nine minutes later, quick run by Orlando. The Clippers ended up trailing by two after a Chris Dunn three pointer at the very end of the first half that would end with the magic sixteen to five run, and the Clippers are down by two after leading by nine in the second quarter, forty seven to forty five at the half. But Big Zoo was perfect in the first half.

He was five of five and Carlo and I on the broadcast literally as they're about to get back to action to start that third quarter, they're like you know, might want to give it to a Viza Zubots. He hasn't missed a shot. He got the first bucket, the first opportunity with a hook shot to start the third quarter. It's forty seven. All Clippers, though, would get down fifty three to forty nine. After the Magic made a little bit of a run and the Clippers had back to

back turnovers. VERSU was James Harden, then it was Kawhi. Leonard ben Carro got a friendly role. They were down fifty one to forty seven. They had a possession where Kawhi missed zoo offensive rebound. Then Norm gets blocked by Wendell Carter. Then done missus a three. They had extra opportunities. They couldn't do anything with it. Wendell Carter Junior hits a jumper. They're up six timeout, Clippers out of the timeout. Norm quick layup going right. It's fifty three to forty nine.

Then a done Steele to Zubats for a long floater fifty three to fifty one. Another stop in Kawhi ties the game at fifty three as he went to the line. The Clippers ended up going on a nine to oh run. It was critical after Kawhi was fouled on a floater. He went to the line, went one of two. It was a nine oh run for the Clippers. But this was one of the biggest moments of the game. There were a few of them. When it's a tight contest like this, when it's a low scoring affair, it makes

every possession so critical. I love a game like this, not all the time, but I love it once in a while. I'll tell you what change after we pause ten seconds for station identification. Here on the Patriot AM eleven fifty.

Franz Wadner goes through the UH Charity stripe and Harden and DJ had an animated conversation. But at the end of it they dapped each other up. They did their cool handshake. I love seeing it because at first I was a little bit concerned Harden was telling Derek Jones junior or something.

It was all good afterwards, good leadership. It's a three point game. Anthony Black would miss like the next three shots for the Orlando Magic, but Harden misses a three and DJ has a huge put back dunk to make it sixty seven to sixty five Clippers. After that little conversation between those two, van Harden gets a floater Goaltending's called sixty nine sixty two Clippers. Franz would floater to floater the other way. It's a five point game. Harden

got blocked, Franz layup. It's a three point game. You can say it's just a three point game. In a game like this with points at a Premium. It felt like a six or seven point lead for the Clippers heading into the fourth, up sixty nine to sixty six. It was just three points, but remember they were down two heading in to the third quarter, so they went plus five and James Harden just had some great plays there down the stretch of the third when Kawhi went out.

Now Kawhi comes back in to start the fourth, starts with Franz Vogner missing a three. The Clippers have but toom Kawhi, DJ Bogie and Norm out there. Norm gets a layup going right, and I'm starting to get excited because because mister fourth quarter for this team, as he has been the last two seasons, scores their first points of the fourth and he would end up with nine of his twenty one points in the fourth. Franz gets a layup. Then DJ hits a three off a quick feed from Kawhi Leonard as they were moving the ball beautifully, seventy four to sixty eight. Derek Jones Junior big shot. But the Clippers were starting to get in foul trouble. I was worried. They picked up two fouls the first two minutes of the fourth thought they might get into the penalty early. Kawhi, though, then hits a fade away over Franz Wagner tough, tough shot, unguardable. Clippers are up eight. Ben Carro comes right back with

an a one five point game. Now Kawhi floater on the right baseline over two seven point game. Kawhi gets a block on Franz on the other but the Magic got it to go after an extra opportunity. The Clippers were just in an absolute dog fight. Harden comes in for Kawhi at the eight minute mark. He misses a layup, Bogie gets to steal on Ben Carro, and norm then gets the easy layup. There was from wild turnovers back and forth and just chaotic sequences like that. The Clippers

are up eighty to seventy five. Now in the fourth, not the third, it feels like a third quarter score. No, it's the fourth in this defensive heavyweight battle. Now you get the Bogey steal on ben Caro, and Bogie takes it the other way and knocks down a like I'm

putting this on my shoulders right now. I know I haven't hit a shot, but it's my time, and I mean man, Carroll was in transition, Bogie is backing up, and it looked like James Harden with the countless strips he had in this ballgame, like it was permeating throughout the team, like Bogie said, Oh, it's that easy to get a steal. Now it's my turn. I'll get one on Ben Carroll. And I think that ended up in a normal layup. But then the very next possession it

was Boge getting that three pointer. This is one I'd like to see again. I got a check and make sure I got this sequence right in the fourth quarter, because it was wild, guys, I'm telling you. At eight to seventy five, they called it a Bogie block on Ben Carroll at least on what I saw. So it was his block. What should have been an easy two that would have brought Orlando to within one, or it could have been an in one another one for Ban Carrow.

Instead it's a block from Boge in transition backing up against Ban Carrol, an incredible play, and instead the Clippers getting easy one going the other way from Norman Powell. So we're talking about a four point swing. Now they're up eighty to seventy five. Anthony Black misses, Bogey gets the rebound, brings up the floor, no pass needed. He's gonna take that three point shot and hit it with six forty five left to put them by eight, their

largest lead at that time. Incredible, incredible from Bogey. He's been one of my favorite players for a long time. I'm biased, I know, but I love seeing it. Now. We got done, Norm Hardened, Boge and Zoo bots out there. Bogie misses a three, Ben Carro miss, Zoo rebound, Harden floater. Lead goes from eight to ten. Corey Joseph quickly hits a three pointer, seven point game, hard and bad turnover and Wendell Carter Junior gets the steal, gets into Franz

layup from KCP. Five point game. Starters back in at the four thirty six mark for the Clippers. Now, I saw some people on Twitter that were Hayden on Chris Dunn being back in, But I think it worked out just fine with the starters late in the game to close things out. They get back in. It's a five point game. Zoo miss is a spinning floater, but the Magic have a miss on the other end and Kawhi Leonard gets a board. Underrated part of this ballgame underrated

part of Kawhi Leonard. He had eight rebounds, not easy to come by when Big Zoo has twenty. In almost another twenty twenty game, he had eighteen inch twenty, but Kawhi was flying for some of those rebounds. James Now misses along two, Chris Dunn gets a tip out for another possession, Nor misses a three. Done gets another tipout, another offensive rebound, and this time Norman Palell hits the three, huge shot put him back up by eight. Ben Carro now loses it off the strip from James Harden going

down the lane. James Harden quick hands Kawhi would miss, but if Hesa Zubos got the board and was fouled, goes one of two Clippers up nine. Then Done gets a crazy deflection, but couldn't come up with the basketball as he is slipping sliding onto the court next to Franz. Couldn't get it. Magic ball. Wendell Carter Junior, easy two headed dunk. Done, then throws a pass a little bit too low to Zoo. It's broken up and there's a foul undone Joseph to the line. Five point game. It

wasn't gonna be easy. Norm draws a foul the other way hits both seven point game clutch free throws by Norman Powell. Don't discount that stuff. We've seen the Clippers miss too many big shots at the charity stripe this season. Harden gets another strip on Ben Carro. It goes off of his knee and out of bounce. I think that was the one I was thinking of originally done misses the three. Ben Carrow misses a three, Harden gets fouled, goes to the line. The Clippers end up putting this

one away, even with him going one of two. As so, why had a runout dunk where a Visa Zubos was looking for him in transition and a ten point lead in the game like this felt like twenty and the Clippers go on to win by nine. Kawhi would knock down two more free throws at the very end. Ninety six to eighty seven was your final quick time out. Zubach got deposition on a switch. He was calling for the ball, pleading for it. Uh, Harden didn't give it to him for whatever reason, but he drove, you know, so Zubach got out of the way and Harden drove. As he was driving, Zubach got he got pissed basically, but then in a split second he just says f that and he just runs to

the rim. Harden ends up making the layup. He didn't have to give a putback or anything, but you know, he just sprints it back into it. And that to me was like that's life. You know. Sometimes you fight hard for a good position, you don't get it. You get pissed, but you just quickly bounce back. You quickly get back into the play and boom. You know, you stay positive. And that's what the Clippers have done. Man,

they just fought. That was a very uh micro you know, micro example of what you need to do as a team and as we do his people in life.

and Powell hit that three. I mean that really kind of gave him a little bit of comfort right there. But he also had that one tip and it went all the way to the back court and Orlando only had like three seconds to put the shot up.
