Transcript

Got your fall. It's time to react to La Clippers basketball. This is Clippers Talk. All the chat, reaction and analysis hosted by Adam Aslan. You know he's feeling good. Take the show with you anywhere you are, and baby, get the podcast. I mean iHeart radio. While and now

your host. He makes everything happen, Adam Ousley without Damian Lillard. Paul George just wanted to remind Portland fans of what they were missing with his own version of Dame Time Lillard Time. PG thirteen scores ten points in the final four minutes. The Clippers come back down six with two minutes to play, and they win one thirteen to one twelve in the Mota Center in Portland,

over the Trailblazers. Welcome into Clippers Talk. I'm Adam Oslin to eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number coming up here on the show. We'll get to your phone calls. I think Jeff and Tarzana just called in which says that private number. Jeff Wood, my friend Charles Mockler from Locked on Clips will be here. We'll have postgame audio, hopefully from PG thirteen. I'm guessing

he went on T and T after this big victory. You'll also hear from coach lou after the Clippers do it again the comeback clips. They did it against Detroit the other night while they were under manned, without Paul George, without Kawhi Leonard. Tonight they do it without one half of the two one three connection as Paul George puts on his best performance I think so far in the Clippers uniform, at least during crunch time, as he scores ten points

in the final four minutes. He was that good. He finished with thirty three points. He's now been scoring thirty or more and six of his last seven games. The Clippers are seventeen and five post All Star Break, and they just made it two in a row. But they've been one of the hottest teams since the All Star Break. Now they've been playing their best basketball when it's required. And also, no matter who was out there, different

guys stepping up. It was Reggie Jackson against his former team in Detroit. I thought also late in this one, Nicholas Batoum was fantastic. He and the fourth quarter started things off with a dunk He had a jumper, he had a tip in shot off a miss three from I want to say Reggie Jackson, who would hit a big three pointer in the fourth quarter. And Nicholas Batoum also had a fantastic, beautiful pass a lib pass for an alley to DeMarcus Cousins, who had his best game so far as a Clipper,

had eleven points and six boards and just thirteen minutes. So Nicholas Batoum haunts his former team. Reggie Jackson did it against the Detroit Pisteds. But the Clippers are just finding ways to win. I'm telling you. I said this earlier this week, but there have been games lately that they have won that I think they would have lost earlier in the season. Adversity reveals character,

and they've been through a lot of it. With all the injuries going on without Kawhi Leonard tonight, and he's going to be out for a week, he's going to be reevaluated as that foot injury will be reevaluated in a week. It's a little bit concerning, but the Clippers continue winning anyways. Oh and by the way, it's not that concerning because the head coach came out pregame, I should remind myself t lew And said, they're being precautionary.

They're being overly cautious because they want to make sure at Kawhi Leonard is as healthy as he can be going into the playoffs. And we are just twelve games away from playoff basketball with your Los Angeles Clippers. But I just really admire the way they've been fighting. It's reminiscent of the last few years of the transitional phase in between lib City and the two one three connection, the

twenty seventeen twenty eighteen season, the twenty eighteen twenty nineteen season. Now they have a much more talented team, even with guys out right now, when you have a superstar like Paul George, those teams were doing it without an all star. They got superstars now. But they've been developing this going back to the midway through that third quarter. Midway through the third against the Atlanta Hawks, down twenty two, tlou pulls the starters. Yeah, we've talked

about this story before, but Nicholas Batoum said it. Something was born out of that. Something changed after that. They have been forming their identity since then, and I think it is just being a resilient basketball team that refuses to lose and does not give up even when they're down six with two minutes left in a ball game like they were tonight. Incredible comeback against Portland who played great. Yeah they did. Didn't have Damian Lillard. They didn't have

Yusuf Nurkic. CJ McCollum is an absolute killer. If you watch that Game seven between the Blazers and Nuggets a couple of years ago in the playoffs, it wasn't Damian Lillard who pulled them through to get them to the Western Conference Finals. It was CJ McCollum. He hit all the big shots late. He also has some Dame time in him and hopefully Damian Lillard is back soon. There have been so many guys missing right now, so there's an all

first team that is on the bench right now. Throughout the NBA between Lebron and a d and Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have been injured at times and unfortunately the ACL tear with Jamal Murray, Brooklyn has only had their Big three in seven games playing together so far because of injuries and now Damian Lillard with the Blazers Donovan Mitchell with the Utah Jazz. It's been an incredibly unfortunate year when it comes to bad luck with injuries with teams, and everybody's been having

to deal with it, some to more drastic extents than others. But these two teams that played tonight have certainly been through it and still are. And I thought Portland played a really good basketball game. They still scored one twelve, and they actually outscored the Clippers by three in that fourth quarter, but the Clippers were down four going into the half. And in that third quarter, Jon Rondo was just absurd. He had six of his nine points.

He had one of the best assists you'll see all season, just to a wraparound pass with some spin on it to get past a nest canter to his teammate for an easy layup. It was just stupid rabbit out of the hat type stuff, as Noah Eagle put it. But he got in transition and crossed up his man and got a layup, and it looked like Boston Rondo. Maybe it's hyperbole, but he's looked to have younger legs since he has joined the Clippers. You know, while we have a moment let's pause ten

seconds for stationed identification. Here on a five seventy LA Sports, this is LA Clippers Basketball, A five seventy KLAC Los Angeles, seven KYSR HD two Los Angeles, and iHeart radio station. Hope Safe Harbor covers that too. But Gen Rondo has hit the fountain of youth, as has Nicholas Beatum this season, Pat pat at times with big throwdowns. I don't know what's going on with some of the old older guys, including even someone like Kawhi Leonard.

He's just twenty nine, but he's looked better overall, even dealing with this foot injury. He had the big two handed alley oop on Sunday against the Timberwolves that he had to go up and get. Paul George had one of those in this game on a set play in the first quarter, I want to say, or early second quarter, on a lob from Jen Rondo. They got bounced. They're an older team, but they've been showing off that bounce here and there. But Rondo's got it too. He played twenty

two minutes tonight. He had an incredible offensive foul that he drew on someone who didn't even have the ball. Paulas Jefferson ran into him and he drew that foul. It was special. It was a heady play, only something for gen Rondo would be able to pull off. But this Clippers team, it's coming together chemistry wise, through the injuries, through the adversity they've been overcoming at all, and that can make you more battle tested for the playoffs.

That's what they need. Paul George, He's been under so much scrutiny. He's had so much unnecessary hate his way by the NBA fans who just want to slander him on Twitter and try to get retweets and likes by putting his name out there. They do it all the time, and it's completely undeserved, sometimes way out of line. But I saw the other night ESPN, and it was in the game in Philly where they lost by three.

They put up that graphic showing where he's been in the fourth quarter or at the end of games, and he hasn't shot the ball well in certain parameters, and they didn't really explain it very well what that stat actually meant, and in context, it didn't include playoff big shots that he had hit. It was just regular season and it was just a feed into that false narrative. I would say he's been up and down in the playoffs, but he's

been up. He's had big playoff performances. Everyone just remembering that Game seven from last season. I think he had thirty three in Game six against the Denver Nuggets tonight. For him to come through the way he did to pull this team across the finish line, it was a special performance from Paul George. He gets to thirty three, but it's not even just getting ten points in the fourth quarter. All ten came with about three and a half minutes

left. They're down five, and he's going right to the basket over and over again in transition, getting layups, not getting fouls called, and then he finally does, probably because he had earned it by then. Finally Scott Foster throw him a freaking bone. He goes five of six from the line, but he had to hit those two to put the Clippers up one to get this victory by a final score of one thirteen to one twelve. And that thirteen is in there because it was PG thirteen if you're into numerology or

anything like that. But it was just appropriate that they win by that scores. PG thirteen steps up late and all that scrutiny about Clippers and clutch time. They've turned that narrative around. Right before the All Star break, they had some bad moments against Washington, against Boston, against the Brooklyn Nets. I think that game in Brooklyn was near there. Although PG thirteen had an

amazing corner three late in that game. Still there was a lot of talk, a lot of talking heads that were coming at the Clippers neck about them and crunch time. Well, lately they've been amazing at fourth quarters and they're

peaking at the right time. Isn't that what you want? You learn those lessons during the regular season, and then you just continue to build and then eventually you get better because of all that, all those difficult times you went through, all that adversity, that verity that you faced, and you hope you're ready for the test come playoff time. Right now, outside of injuries, the Clippers look to be there. With twelve games to go, twelve

games left in the regular season, They've been tested. I feel like they have passed a lot of these tests recently here the past couple of weeks. But what a performance from PG thirteen. All right, let's check this out. Let's see if it's Jeff. Since I don't have a screener, I'm running everything tonight. Mourn me, Jeff and Tarzana. You're on Clippers died without of males, and I think it's Jeff? Is it Jeff? Of course it is? Who else would it be? Thank goodness? I mean

consistent as consistent as Jerry West was. Yeah, you're a real mister klutch when it comes to calling in only on after victories by the Clippers. But hey, all right, well let's you know what I could cut. You know, it's like, do you know the story on Jerry West? Right, Daddy? He would sometimes six to his stomach when the Lakers lost all those championships to Boston. He didn't want to He didn't want to be someplace.

And when they finally won against New York, I believe he had a quote because he didn't have his best series that they had to overcome me, the guy who won a finals MVP while his team lost before. He was such a perfectionist. He was so hard on himself that even after they were remember that nineteen sixty nine when they lost the series. Ye okay, you know, Adam, I have a lot of sports knowledge. It's been around a long time, so not a profession like Jerry West. Jerry West is

one of the greatest players. I never think that guy gets all the credit that he deserves, not only as a great basketball player and a great human being. Look what he's done for the Clippers, Yes, sir, I mean with Steve Bamber and turning that team around. And you know, I knew the Clippers were going to win today because Charles Barkley predicted them to loots. He did this recently too, Yep, he does. I love Charles, You're a funny man. Would I would make a lot of money if

I bet against him. But you know, they were so clutched today. And it's not just Paul George. It's guys like Nicholas Betoon, Reggie Jackson, and they've really put a really good team out there. And now even another thing happen when you come to think that now players not only want to play for the Lakers and the Knicks, a lot of players would sign with the Clippers now because of the way the organization has been turned around, and

that you can't say twenty years ago when they had that different owner. And I am so proud of this team and no matter what happens, I will be a Clipper fan to the day they die, to the day I die, and I hope before I do, the Clippers won a championship. That's one of my dreams. Jeff, thank you for the phone. Call me too. I concur and it's Jerry West, It's Michael Winger, it's Trent Redden, and it's Lawrence Frank. You're president of Basketball Operations. Speaking of

someone who never gets enough love, Lawrence Frank has been brilliant. This front office has been brilliant. Steve Ballmer has changed the culture completely, and yes it has turned into a destination franchise. Something special though, has been going on with this team this season. It just feels different than last year.

It feels like they've melded together some of that grit and grind from a couple of years ago with now having a team that is filled with a lot more talent, but they still have that mentality and they still have that attitude or you gotta play for forty eight minutes no matter who was out there, and different guys stepping up each and every night. But Paul George was unbelievable down the stretch. That was one of his best performances that I've ever seen in

his career. All right, coming up next, we will get some more of your phone calls. I'll screen him during the break. Eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Clippers win one thirteen to one twelve in Portland over the Blazers thanks to PG thirteen, who had ten points in the last three

and a half minutes. What's a victory? Clipper Nations? You're listening to a M five to seventy l a sports n My Wanders got my wonder with crisis in all this crisis, Saint Nevin knew work nice ss check depatments. Well, I've been on nice What is every moment all season long? On their officials? Why letters sends it back home of the Clippers still not come in here? Sus sus susan, I'm sorry. Well, I wouldn't take

doubt for their Clippers tonight. Paul George would not allow it. He has ten points in the fourth quarter, all critical ones in the last four minutes when the Clippers were down six with two minutes left in Portland and they go on to win one thirteen to one twelve. Welcome back into Clippers Talk. I'm out of maslind eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number coming up in this

very segment you will hear from coach Louis. Let's get to the phone calls. Fools movie, Joe and North Hills. You're on Clippers Stop with Adam Oslind. I just kind of post malone for you. What's up, Joe? Oh yeah, I feel good about them having come from behind winn. There's there's something about when you have a lot of those wins. You played better in the playoffs. You play better under pressure. You you believe you can come back when you're down in the playoffs and and and you're off and

down in the playoffs because you're you're playing tight game. So I think that's good for our heads. And Paul George is playing, was playing in that zone like Kauai was in when he was playing for Toronto. I just I'm a happy man. I need my buddy boogie. Tonight was played like he was actually an NBA player instead of an old man trying to play in the NBA. Well, Joe, I thought Boogie looked really good. Eleven points, six boards, but three offensive rebounds, and he was bullying guys out

of the paint and boxing them out and playing to his size. And that's all they need. They don't need a lot. And hopefully Serge Ibaka's back sooner than later. We'll see, but Boogie Cousins has been a great pickup. He's on his second ten day right now. We'll see what transpires moving forward. Let's go to CJ and Alhambrah. CJ, what's up here on Clipper's side with that? I'm astin. Yeah. First of all, when a night just celebrate. I know it was a little touch and go tonight.

First of all, it's for twenty. Happy for twenty brother. I hope you had your weight steat tastey edible before the show. Do I sound like it? Well? You know, well, man, I see how you do do it post game. You gotta be on a cloud nine after a win like this though, regardless you're way up. You know what. Hey, look, if you did or didn't or will or will not, I'll take one for you. Maybe I did already, who knows, But look, Tonight's gay Man really just was awesome because, first of all,

we broke Lawler's law. We allowed Apartment to get into the triple digits and we show them what's up. Second of which, throughout this entire season, we have really sucked in the clutch and in the last like four minutes where we are down by just a few possessions and we actually broke through tonight, and thanks to PG for that defense. Offense wasn't really all there, but

our rebounding really pulled us through. I think it was the rebounding that that really kind of saved us, you know, So that in itself was awesome. So YEA for tonight, YEA for four twenty. I know, I know, I'm anxiously waiting for Ibaka to come back. I know others are, others are well, but I think Morris has solidified himself as the starting four. It's his spot to keep, and you know Vacca could join. Yeah oh no, no, no, no, Morris needs the four spot

as a starter. He's back in as a starter that was announced that has nothing to do with Serge. You mean a visa zubosh Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no, no, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I meant getting to see a CJ. You see what happens? Well, look at you, look at you, Adam. No, but but seriously, I think Morris deserves the starting four. He is starting. I think Marcus Morris is the starter. He was named the starter that had nothing to do with Serge Vacca. Oh five, Well we'll lay off the animals.

Well, you know what, one last thing was, one last thing before I grab another one? All right, all right, Yogi Ferrel, not really feeling that, not really feeling that, CJ. You know what else you are with a CJ. You know what else you aren't feeling gen Rondo? You want me to pull that call? And you want to know something, I think he deserved the sub of the game today because of just that one crazy assist. That was real nice, CJ. Thank you for

the phone call. All right, let's hear a post game. Let's uh, let's find her our sea legs here a little bit. I believe we have coached lou for you post game after the Clippers win one thirteen to one twelve. Let's see mystery post game? Sound all right? Can complaining? All right? First question go to Tomare, Yeah, they talking guts on the wind. Where did you mean you guys shot some thirty percent from the

from three only? In terms of what did you think the biggest I guess the most important area that led the Knight's win was I thought just being resilient, you know, not giving in. We had all the chance to give in, but our team, you know, we just kept fighting. You know, we kept scrapping. We didn't want to lose that game. And you know, this team has been finding ways to win all year, so

that was just good to see some great contributions. I thought, you know, that second half of Nico and Reggie Jackson really took the challenge on CJ and and Pal you know who really hurt us. It took the challenge in every regard. I thought Cousins came in and did a great job. Offensive, were just making some good passes. I'm scoring eleven points I think he had, So it was just a total team win. But the biggest thing for me is just being resilient, not giving in and just keep competing.

And PG was special tonight. You know, I thought he really control the game. I thought down and Stretch really took his time, got other guys shots and got all the guys involved, but also brought us home by scoring the basketball as well. I'll move over to Law. First of all, we're watching them on the broadcast, and it looked like you were really animated when the game, right, when the game ended, right when CJ missed that last shot. Was there any explanation for or I don't know, it

seemed like you were yelling at somebody or something. I can't remember. I was mad. I can't say I probably getting fined, but I mean, I have to thought. We played to the officiate, you know, all night, and it was like a playoff game, you know, they you know, both sides were physical. Wasn't a lot of food throws, and you know, you know, like I said, just kept playing through it. And that's what I was pretty animated about. But you know, we

kept fighting. You know, we didn't complain. We got some tough calls, you know that happens throughout the course of the game, but we stuck with it. And I was probing about guys for that. We'll move over to far By. Hey, coach, what have you seen from PG in these in these last seven games? And he's averaging thirty two points on fifty five percent shooting. Uh, what is there anything that stood out to you

the most in these last seven games you've seen from him. I mean, it's what he was doing all season, you know, before the injury. So you know, he's back to playing at a high level. You know, you feeling better, and you know he's been doing this all season, so it's nothing new. But like I said, he's been carrying us. You know, I'm being out I think three or four games, but you know, PG has really stepped up, you know, and made his teammates

better, but also scoring the basketball as well. Tonight, had eleven rebounds, you know. So I'm just doing everything the complete game tonight, and we needed every bit of it. Kay. We move over to justin Russea. Hey, coach, how would you evaluate the team's defense tonight? Overall? I mean McCullum scores twenty eight, but he takes twenty six shots. Carmelo has eighteen on eighteen. Were you thrilled with the defense? We're kind of in the middle, kind of in the middle. I got to go

back and watch it. You know. The only shot you know, thirty super seferent three and forty four from from the field, so that usually equals equals a pretty good night. But I thought they scored a little too fast. It wasn't too keleysed with our communication, our switches. They got a couple of shots in transition, we didn't give matched up. So you know, just those things, you know, we've got to continue to keep getting better at. But the biggest thing for me is just communication. We've got

to get better with our talking and communication out there on the floor. To deepens a side, O, Hey, Andrew can goad You had said when when region was added that you know, obviously it's gonna there's an acclamation period. But at one point to night he was at think plus twelve in his first fifteen minutes. He threw some some seeing I passes kind of where is is he farther? Is he farther along? I guess in picking up things,

picking up guys tendencies. Then maybe you even expected or is this about where you thought he might be. I mean he's been asking a lot of questions, you know, PG Kawai and the guys just what don't want the ball delivered? You know how they want it. But I mean, if you see just how he gets PG on the full of backdoor layoups, you know, Kawhile's back door layups, getting some easy baskets, and you know, when you score like PG and kauhi are, you know, it's good

to get some easy baskets. You know, kind of opened up the basket for you. And Ronald's been great with that, you know. So he's always talking to those guys, and they watched film together on the plane. You know, so just adding Rondo, like I said, having a quarterback on the floor has really been valuable to us. Can move over to Mason, he coach, what did you make a boogie as sort of like a

hub in the posts and the second unit? It seemed like you only have one assistant, but it seemed like every possession started with a boogie post up and then the balls swing around the court. Well, in the first half, I saw they were they were double teaming him every time we touched it. So we wanted to try to use that to our advantage in the second half. You know, if they're gonna come in double just stay space.

You know, Pat Pat did a good job of depthing on the backside, and Luke Knar had a couple of shots one he turned down a Nico gotting shot. You know, Ronald was able to catch him going on one of the swing swings. So there's double team the post. You know, we want to try to put two in the basketball and then play from there because we know, like I said, book, he's a great pass or out of the post. He's unselfish. But also he was able to go to

work when they played the one on one. It's American gay. Yeah, Ty, you talked about Rondo sort of adjusting, asking questions and seeing more guys like the like the ball and all that, but like, have you seen guys maybe like try to adjust to him and his you know, his timbo. I know i've's this before, but how have you seen that progression go along as you guys have played more games. Yeah, I mean it's

going well. You know, like I said, Ronald's catching the ball, you know, one or two steps in front of a half court home initial outlet. So he's always talking to guys, encouraging guys that run the floor. And the more we run the easier, the more easy baskets gone we're gonna get because guys got to protect the rim first, and that's what's opened up our three point shot and you know, offensive to night and we spent one hundred and thirteen points. But I thought we did a good job offensive

and sharing the ball. I thought we got some great shots that we didn't make and that's gonna happen, but to stay with the game plan and continue to keep going and keep fighting, and we did. So. It was a great way of horse gets a team that's you know, playing tough and playing hard and still play for playoff positions. So there was your head coach.

Cheelu postgame talked about his team battling just finding ways to win games now and Portland they're trying to make sure they don't end up in the play in tournament this season like they had to be in last year. They got worn out just trying to get into the playoffs. They're currently in the sixth slot or in the sixth seed position in the West. They would be mashed up against the Clippers who are in the three spot currently and don't know, well,

you know what, I'm not even going to tempt fate there. I just hope everybody gets healthy for this playoff run everybody. I know that's not going to happen with Denver, but you want to beat everybody at their best, and it would be a fun series seeing the Clippers take on the Portland Trailblazers in the first round with the star power you'd have out there all right. Coming up next here on the show, Charles Mochler from Locked on Clips

will be here. We'll get back to your phone calls eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. Tay, just hold on, We'll get to you. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number, Paul George p G thirteen came through late and the Clippers come through with another win. They win one thirteen o one twelve in Portland over the Blazers. This is Clippers Talk here on Amp five seventy l s fours in the hollow, double up will player man this event laid down. They didn't know

me ninety one, but didn't know me now I'm the young La. What is baby? Every moment all season long on their officials good why letters sends it back home of the cliff base. Still not come in here? What twelve to one oh seven, La down by five one minute remaining in the fourth quarter. George top of the key weaves his way through the deep fence, down the mid of the lane all the way to the Ramedy fakes at

home. Pg. Thirteen's got two boards, got twenty nine overall and the Clippers are down three, one twelve to one on nine Morris with a rebound George on the front court quickly down the right alley. George of the rim bakes at home on the left hand Pg. Thirteen, getting it done in the clutch. Thought he was fouled as well, but he brings it to one, one twelve, one eleven with thirty three point six seconds remaining and Terry Stotts calls it time out for Portland. George of the mid court logo

nine seconds left, moved to his right. McCollum picks him up. George down the right alley all the way to the rim, and he felled. Paul George will go to the free throw line with four point eight remaining and a chance to give the Clippers a one point lead. Narrator says he would

Noah Eagle on the call there Pg. Thirteen, with the comeback helping the Clippers to a one thirteen to one twelve victory, with him having ten points on the fourth quarter down the stretch they win in Portlands one thirteen O one twelve. Welcome back in two Clippers stock. I'm at a Maslin coming up. We'll get back to your phone calls. You'll hear from PG thirteen post

game eight six six nine eight seven two five seventies the phone number. But joining the show right now is the man in charge, Charles in charge, Charles Mockler, who does it for Locked on Clips. Charles, Thanks for

doing this. That's one of the best games I've ever seen Paul George play, certainly in a Clippers uniform, but it was big for the Clippers, and I thought it was also big for him to have a moment like that leading into the playoffs with just twelve games left here in the regular season. Yeah, first of all, thanks for having me. And yet we're watching Paul George have his best break as a Clipper, right. I mean, he's been absolute unbelievable. He almost brought us back against the seventy six ers.

He hit clutch shot after clutch shot and then some clutch three throws tonight. This is the perfect time to be building towards what we're gonna see, which is gonna be a you know, for the Clippers version of it, a healthy lineup going into the playoff, and yeah, he's just speaking at the right time. It feels like, what have you loved most about genre Rondo? Because there's a lot to love even though a lot of Clipper Nation they had to do a U turn, I had to do a U turn.

I had to put four reverse the motion of me a little bit better of me. I'm not going to pretend like they didn't. So you've been You've been Rondo? Oh? Interesting, I have. And I'm happy about it though, because I'm thank the Clippers are winning. So has he brought just different elements you didn't think he still had in his game? What is it? What is it about his game that has surprised you? I guess with his play as a Clipper, I don't know if it's surprising, but

it is surprising. Actually, his passing is somehow better than what I thought it was going to be. I was really you know, that's an aspect that even if you weren't super excited about Rondo, had to be you know, conscious of for sure. But he through just some absurd passes to Paul George, saw you throw one on the baseline that just had some kind of a bunch of English on it. He's able to kind of pass through guys and Cole huffs that is on Twitter. But he's able to pass guys open

like a quarterback, which is one of the crazy things. He hits guys in stride a lot, and it's just been it's been very helpful. We'll see what happens in the playoffs. I hope playoff Rondo shows up or just consistent Rondo, but right now, I mean, there's not a whole lot to not like. Tylu has also used them very well, which I think is helping Matt situation out too. He's Charles Mockler. He covers the team

for Clipper Nation, but does so on Locked on clips. Follow him on Twitter at Charles m O c k l e R. Somebody else who I thought got a little bit of revenge his PG thirteens on that revenge tour, and not really because he had great years in Portland and he left to go to Charlotte. But it's always there's a little bit more juice going up against your former employer, as our friend Bryan Steam would say. And Nicholas Batoum came up huge again down the stretch. I believe he had six of his

eleven points in that fourth quarter. His only assist came in the fourth a lab passed to de Marcus Cousins. But he brought this type of energy from the beginning of the season and it just continues. He has gotten better, even though he's older. Now. I saw somebody say, of course he does this against Portland's night, but it's like, well, he's been doing this all season long. He's been coming up big with big plays all season long. For the Clippers. It's that and it's I mean, it's the

unselfishness. He wants to be the glue guy, right like him and Marcus Morris are somehow on this symbiotic what's the fantastic teammates wave like, which is great and yeah, you know, but teams start a little bit low. But he's been in the legal one time. He knows how to get back into a rhythm. He's not gonna stop making effective plays even when the shop bart falling, and when they are, it's just a bonus and a bonus for the whole year for the Clippers. The best bat minimum contract, I

mean obviously this year, other than maybe Reggie Jackson. Yeah, that's that's the thing. The Clippers have two of them. And Reggie Jackson hit another big three pointer in the fourth quarter that had people freaking out. He did it obviously against the Detroit Pistons, where he won that game. Down the stretch. He hit a big three against Philly that has been overlooked because they ended up losing that game by three. But he's been so amazing considering that

Pat Bev has only played in about forty games this season. Reggie Jackson, I think you said this before, maybe on this show, but he's been the de factos starter basically just because Pat Bev has been out so much, and Reggie has absolutely been a part of what's been special about this Clippers team

all year. He is our defacto starting point guard. The playoff minutes are going to be interesting, depending when Patrick Reckerley comes back to full strength, but I think Clippers, I mean, we can't be too worried about it. Right Like, he's shooting great from outside, he's making good decisions for the most part, which is probably people's biggest gripe from last year. But he's really tightened all that up and he's been I mean just fantastic all the

way around. So we just got to hope it keeps up, because part of me does keep thinking that this team might come back down to earth in some way, but we just kind of hope it doesn't happen all at once. It never happened with the three point shooting. I mean, I know

they didn't shoot great from there tonight. I think it was the first time they won or they were one in four when they shot underneath thirty percent from distance, and they were there tonight just twenty eight percent from three on eleven of thirty eight. But they hit some timely ones and somebody else who I

thought gave them a real boost. And I don't know what side you were on with them signing to Marcus Cousins to attend day contract, but they needed some beef, they needed somebody else in the paint, and I thought his effort was spectacular fighting for rebounds tonight. Especially. Yeah, we were pretty I mean over on Locked On Cliffs, we were pretty excited about Boogie.

It seems like this is the first year that I've ever heard Lawrence Frank talk about vibes, and he's talked about that with Rachel Rondough he's rogal Rondo and Boogie cousins. So from that perspective, it's a great sighting. Guys who want to be around each other play better. It's just how it works. And I think Paul George said we saw vintage Boogie tonight, which is funny. Like if he if he's going to be the third center or fourth whenever

Search comes back. It's a great position to be in. He brings a good energy to the locker room. He was laughing at Scott Foster tonight. Everyone like him. It's it's great. You want to endear yourself to Clipper nation. That was it. He is Charles Mockler again. Follow him on Twitter at Charles mc k l e r. He covers the Clippers for locked on Clips. They have you covered each and every day. What a responsibility to have to paud every day, but he does it and he does a

great job. Charles. Thanks for coming on Clippers talk to night. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me and happy holiday. Let's go Clips. Let's it go Clippers win one thirteen and one swell they come back late in Portland. PG. Thirteen was out of his mind down the stretch or you know, just playing like he has been in the last couple of weeks. If more Clippers talk coming up next, we'll try to get to you or try to get you PG thirteen postgame audio, We'll get to your phone calls.

I got a couple of the screen here eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. I'm out of Oslins and you're listening to Clippers talk here on AM five seventy l a sports fussing the bead stomach. I trained my hopes. This is LA Clippers Basketball co Why Leonard is a destroyer of worlds? Right now on the official home of your La Clippers way way way up. Yeah. Look, I got enemies, got a lot of enemies, got a lot of people trying to draill my energy to trying to take away.

Clippers win one thirteen to one twelve in Portland over the Trailblazers. PG thirteen goes to work down the stretch, re enters the game at the six minute mark of the fourth quarter, has ten points in the last four minutes. Clippers were down by six with two minutes left, and the way he scored just go into the basket over and over again. He hasn't been getting a great whistle all season long. Yeah, it's been frustrating, I know

for Clipper Nation to have to watch him get hacked multiple times. But finally he was rewarded and would knock down both free throws to give them the one thirteen to one twelve victory. Welcome back into Clippers Talk. I'm at a Maslin eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. We do have Paul George audio coming up here, but first let's go to Greg Inventora. Greg,

welcome back to Clippers stock. How are you, Adam? You and Noah are so much superior in your coverage pregame, postgame and call that to the Lakers guys that I just want you to know that it's it's strikingly better in all regards. That's very kind. That all right. Secondly, you know, I don't know if anybody's said this before, but I see Paul George as a Clayton Kershaw having great seasons during the regular season, doing everything

right, and then not coming through in the postgame and the postseason. And I think this is going to change this year. I've been listening to carefully to Paul George this year, how he's performed, and I think he's going to break through and the Clippers are going to have a great postseason and Paul is going to step it up and actually become did he name himself playoff Paul or whoever named him that he is going to end up being that at him, I think, Greg, thank you for the phone call as always,

longtime caller here on Clippers Talk, one of my favorite voices to listen to, So compliment your way as well. Greg. There was something interesting that PG thirteen said recently and I never would have thought this, but that foot injury it changed something about him. He said he had a breakthrough because he knew he just had to go out there and ball and give it his all, no matter if he's hurt or not. It seemed like, I don't know, he was peeling back the layers a little bit and giving us some

insight into the psychology of a superstar. And since then, I mean, how can you argue he's been playing his best basketball. I know he says it's not his best of his career, and there's a pretty high standard when you're talking about a guy who's been third in MVP voting before third and defensive player of the Year voting before, but he's played his best basketball of the

last couple of years now. He did say that before we hear from PG thirteen post game tags and wallnut tages here on Clipper Stop without Hi awesome. Hey Adam, Before I ask you my question, how shocked were you the PG got that call at then? Because I thought he got felled on the two previous drives. And I think that's why you got it. I think, I'm sorry. I think that's why he got it because he finally passed the threshold of whatever they were looking for to give him that call late.

But you're right, because they often swallow their whistle late in the game like that. Right. I'm gonna ask you about Reggie Jackson and Zoo book. There are substitutions in the fourth quarter. What you thought about it? I think I think Reggie came in with about like four minutes left Toronto, And do you think that was more just for a normal sit down Toronto or do you think that they were kind of slacking off on the d and Ty thought

that they wanted to add a little bit more shooting on that end. And for Zoo, they brought him in probably with one minute left. I know in the fourth quarter they went small. I don't think Ken and his Cantra was playing, But they also went small on the second quarter and they had Carmelo guarding Demartha's Cousins, and I think Cousins scored a few baskets. So what do you think was the reasoning why of not playing Zoo in that fourth

quarter as well? I don't know if they were trying to get a different look, if they were experimenting a little bit. But when he came back in with a couple of minutes left, he came in at the one fifty three mark. For Terrence Man, I forgot to mention this Pg. Thirteen had a great pass to Zoo for an easy one. And as for Reggie Jackson, yeah, he came in about the four and a half minute mark, can immediately hit a three. Stay Reggie, stay ready as he always

does. But there were some interesting lineups tonight, like DeMarcus Cousins playing next to pat pat Patrick Patterson, the Kentucky guys out there. We've seen this before, but maybe a little bit of tinkering from TLU. But when they had to figure it out, when they had to perform late, the right guys were out there. T Lou continues to press all the right buttons. Here was PG thirteen post game after the Clippers come back down six with two

minutes left. I think we got Paul George audio all right, So pool on second, hey, PG parents on the one night. A lot of has been made, obviously about the team's three point success this year, but you personally, is this the best she felt in the mid rain with your pull up game? Late? I've been a mid range player in Indiana, you know, because of the shoulder problems and OKC, I struggled in the mid range and I might just shoot much last year, So love late,

this is the best I felt in the mid range. Okay, we'll move over to till mir Hey, Paul, congrats on the wind one of the You know, it was some more news today about the George Floyd verdict came down. I wanted to know what your thoughts were on a considering you know how active you, you and some of the players were in the bubble last year activated, you know, speaking out for social justice. What was your reaction to uh the news today? Uh? I mean I was happy they

made the right decision. I spoke about it public game. You know, they made the right decision and for the nation, that's a step in the right direction. We'll move over to the law. Well, I remember earlier this season we asked about picking up the pace and you said that, you know, it's not really the team's DNA based on personnel to really push the pace all the time. Felt different at the in those last two minutes, you guys are down six, you were drawing fouls, scoring layups off of

even the three that CJ mccollin made. I mean, can you describe what those last two minutes were like with the ball in the hands, having to take this game away from the Blazers. Uh? Yeah, well, I mean the addition to Rondo, you know, improved our pace overall, but just dough that stretch. I knew we had to play a little faster.

We had to attack when their defense wasn't sad, and you know, I just wanted to put pressure on They made big shots type his thing, you know, for a team that's that's making shots to come down to score on. So you know at that point that that was my my my thought process was just to play faster and just be aggressive on the other end, We'll move over to far By. Hey, PG, congrats on the win. After the game, you had spoken about how you know your goal is to

get a ring for yourself and for the franchise. What does it mean to you? You know, knowing that if you guys do win a ring like you are the first person to bring it to this franchise like it is a It is a very high level of immortalization for a player to be the first. You know, what does that mean to you? Oh? Man, it means everything. You know, it means everything and to you know, just be uh. You know, remember with this special group to be the

first to bring a championship to the Clippers. This is an amazing locker room and it's amazing group top bottom, from staff uh to players. You know, it'll mean everything to do it. Being from you know, so cal being a California kid, you know it'll be an emotional uh, you know moment in a moment, I'll you know, never forget the moment. I'll cherish. But you know that that's what drives me. That's honestly what's driving

me and what's fueling men. Move over to Miriam, Hey, Paul, what do you make of Boogies contributions tonight, it seems like he's sort of finding his place there. What did you make that? Yeah, I think book is finding his way. I think he's uh, you know, we're getting flashes of vintage Boogie with this, you know, play making ability,

scoring ability, stretch the floor knocked down a three fo tonight. I think what uh, you know what what you know we will you know, I think what will be most impressive about his game for us is he automatically draws double teams. You know, you can't really guard him one on one because he has so many moves and he's a score. You know, you know it's not a score. I'm a block. So I think, you know, he's instant offense for us. Dumped the ball down for him, and

he's a playmaker at that point, makes the right place tonight. I thought, you know, we had great looks, great shots off his passes, and then he took care of his matchup. So I thought that, you know, Boogie was was was great tonight for us, and it's just good to see him get another game winner's belt and uh, you know, more confidence with this group. There was PG thirteen post game after he willed the Clippers to a victory where they really had no business winning down six with two

minutes left, But that's just what they do. That's what this team has been doing this season. But it was great to see Paul George come through to that level, ten points in the last four minutes and the two game winning free throws to seal it for the Clippers. They're right back at it tomorrow night. No rest for the weary. They're taken on the Memphis Grizzlies

from Staples Center. Before we get out of here, I do want to thank the Clippers organization, Noah Eagle, Brian Semen, Ralph Lawler back here in Burbank, Zach o'caldy until tomorrow night, back at Staples.
