Transcript

Get your fall. It's time to react La Clippers Basketball. This is Clippers Talk all the chat, reaction and analysis hosted by Adam Oslay. You know he's feeling good. Take the show with you anywhere you are and baby, get the podcast. I'm the iHeart Radio are and now your host. He makes everything happen. Adam Mosland. The Clippers payo Mas to Sweet Lou Williams

with a throwback twenty seventeen twenty eighteen type of victory. They were undermanned, they were shorthanded, but that heart and hustle was there and they got it done in San Antonio with a ninety eight to eighty five victory over the Spurs. Welcome into Clippers Talk. I'm Adam Oslin to eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy is the

phone number coming up. You'll hear from the head coach t Lou. We'll talk about Sweet Loew Williams now being back home in Atlanta with the Hawks and the Clippers bringing in Rajon Rondo. Tolmair Azarrely from Clutch Points will also be here for analysis. The Clippers gave up just thirty points to the Spurs in the second half of a game where they didn't have Kawhi Leonard, they didn't have Marcus Morris, they didn't have Sergebaka, and they did not have Patrick

Beverlely or Sweet Lou Williams. They had nine guys available total. They ended up playing eight and everyone made a huge impact. That old slogan, it takes everyone, it takes everything for this Clippers team back during the twenty seventeen twenty eighteen season. It rang true tonight on a night where the Clippers shot just thirty eight percent from the field, but they did go thirty eight percent

with some timely threes late because they started off cold from the outside. They ended up hitting thirteen of the thirty four three pointers, but just an unbelievable defensive performance when they were down some of their best defenders and guys weren't hot

until Reggie Jackson dropped sixteen points in the fourth quarter alone. He did all his damage in the first quarter with twelve points, in the fourth quarter with sixteen points, finished with twenty eight points, a season high for Reggie Action Jackson. Stay Reggie and he has all season long. This guy's on a veteran's minimum. He and Nicholas Bazoum both absolute bargains for this Clippers team.

Per usual, Nicholas Batoum would hit a timely three pointer near the end of the third quarter, also to start that third quarter where the Clippers were down six of the half. Paul George, who did struggle with this shot overall just ten of twenty eight. He's still working through it, but finished with twenty four points and thirteen rebounds, tie to beat to Zubots for the team

lead in rebounds. Tonight. You know who was right behind them, Terrence Man with even though he went just three of ten from the field, he went off for I want to say, eleven points or ten points or eight points. It was eight points in that third quarter alone. Was playing downhill, was getting to the free throw line, brought that energy, and even though multiple guys were not shooting the ball well, they didn't let it affect their game or their defense. This is something head coach t lou has been

stressing. When we're not making shots, we can't let that affect every other area of the game. And it had been for the majority of the season. Defensively, they had been up and down, they were a middle of the pack defensive team. They were twelfth though coming into tonight's game thanks to the way things have turned around defensively post All Star Break, in fact, since the All Star Break. And I put this out on Twitter at follow

Adam a on Twitter if you want to get to me there. But they've only been giving up, including the game where they gave up one thirty five to the New Orleans Pelicans when Telu had to get this team's attention again. Even with that game in there, they've only been giving up one hundred and four points per game. That would be best in the league if they did that over an entire season. The New York Knicks they give up one oh five, giving up one oh four per game, it's exceptional, especially during

the majority of the stretch. They haven't had Patrick Beverley, they haven't had Sir Chebacca tonight, no Marcus Morris either, no Kawhide Leonard Afiza. Zubats was a freaking beast as he has been, But to have four blocks in one quarter. In that third quarter where the Clippers held the San Antonio Spurs to just thirteen points, Big Zoo came through four blocks one quarter. One of them ended with a Nicholas Beatum three pointer in the corner, the one

I mentioned earlier. Sam Zia, our technical producer, was waiting to get that sequence. He was looking for perfection from a highlight. Tonight we finally got one because the other blocks, I don't know if they led to layups or multiple possessions ended in turnovers. Over All, though, the Clippers just ten turnovers, just eight last night, and they survived the San Antonio Spurs only having seven when they had sixteen last night. I told you they are

the best when it comes to taking care of the basketball. They proved it tonight with just seven. But the Clippers were just hungrier defensively, giving up thirty points total in the second half, out rebounding the Spurs by almost twenty. They ended up out rebounding them by eighteen. When you're under man like this, when you're facing adversity like this, it just shows your character and

the way this team has been built and the chemistry on the court. They've won four in a row now, and they did so tonight without four starters. They are building. They are starting to turn that corner because their next nine games are back at Staples Center, and there is work to be done

with this team. Lou will tell you, I think he's been eyeing this opportunity for this long homestand when there's only twenty seven games left in the regular season, because there's a lot they can work on, there's more of his offense that they can install. They're gonna have seventeen straight days where they are sleeping in their own bed at night in Los Angeles. That's gonna do wonders for this team that already looks to be very different defensively than they were in

the first half of the season. But of course, earlier today, Sweet Lou Williams was traded to the Atlanta Hawks for Gen Ronto, and I have a lot of thoughts on that and what gen Rondo is going to bring to this team, but it became it became official about two hours ago. But I do want to pay my respects to Sweet Low Williams, who made my job even easier and more fun because I've been with the Clippers since he has,

and he has brought some memorable highlights. And if people want to talk about that tonight eight six six nine, eight seven two five seventy because Sweet Low Williams. He's the underground goat forever. He is a Clipper legend. He is a fan favorite that helped bridge the gap between the Lob City era and the two one three connection we have now with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

But just last night he made a little bit of history himself. Here was sweet Lou Williams, and here was him hitting a career milestone, and here was his last shot as a Clipper once again. Lou Williams one bucket away from fifteen thousand career points, holds at the four side, week, puts it between his legs, cross over on Jones, get the screen to us left from two bots, Williams the pump fee the jumper from twenty oh Yeah, Lou Williams fifteen thousand career points for the underground goat. Look.

Lou Williams helped carry this team through some difficult times, especially in that twenty seventeen twenty eighteen season where he led an underman Clippers team sound familiar to a winning record. He had a fifty point game with the Clippers. He had thirty six points on their thirty one point playoff comeback against the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs. Of course, he had multiple game winners and a Clippers

jersey while winning two six Man of the Year awards. The underground Goat is forever a Clippers legend and will always be a part of this turnaround for this franchise as he helped lay the foundation as this organization continues to build towards winning that first championship. So thank you, Sweep Lou Williams, and we'll welcome in Jen Rondo coming up next. You're listening to Clipper stock here on AM five seventy LA Sports. What is by every moment all season long? I'm

their official cool Why letard sends it back home? But the Clippers still knock? Come in here, no boardman. Tonight, but the Clippers went for a season high fifty seven rebounds. They win by thirteen in San Antonio over the Spurs. Welcome back into Clippers Talk. I'm adam Osland to eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. Coming up, you'll hear from coach Lou on tonight's victory. The Clippers make it four straight. But also obviously

earlier in the day, Sweet LEEUW. Williams was traded to Atlanta for Genronto, you'll hear from the head coach. We're looking for more postgame audio plus tomare Azzarlie from Clutch Points will be here. But I just I wanted to send love to sweet leew Williams because when you have a guy like that who could just get incendiary at any time, and during that twenty seventeen twenty eighteen season, the Clippers had no business winning forty two games, Lou Williams helped

carry them to forty two wins and a winning record. He had, I want to say, five games of forty plus points or more. Had his fifty point game up at Oracle Arena against Kevin Durant where he had a twenty seven point quarter. So he will always be remembered fondly here with Clipper Nation. But re Gen Rondo he offers a lot. He's five months removed from starting six of six from the field in Game six against the Miami Heat and

the Lakers close out victory to win the championship. He always finds a way to step up in those big moments. Everybody was doubting eat Lakers fans were doubting re Gen Rondo and everyone else was because of how he performed in the regular season at times, and he finds that switch and he flips it. And they have been looking for a playmaker and this is somebody they were interested in. Last I thought they were going to get him. He goes to

the Atlanta Hawks. The Clippers eventually get their man. So it's a bittersweet day. We say goodbye to sweet Loew Williams, who goes back home to Atlanta on a contender on a team that's on the rise, a good, solid team that's in the playoff hunt, and who knows how far they can go with sweet Loew Williams there. But gen Rondo was a need. This was something the Clippers, a need they had to fill because this will make life so much easier for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, especially at the end

of games. Yes, we gen Rondo. He's thirty five years of age. Five months ago he was one of the most important players on the court for the Los Angeles Lakers during their playoff run. And he's been doing this his entire career, going back to the Boston Celtics days. When I think of gen Rondo in the playoffs, though, there's a series that is a little bit underrated that people don't talk about enough because they didn't go on to

win at all. But back in twenty eighteen of the New Orleans Pelicans, he was with Anthony Davis then and Drew Holliday and they made a run after they either swept or won in five games in the first round over the Portland Trailblazers who were favored, and Rondo and Drew Holiday just wrecked, completely dismantled whatever CJ. McCollum and Damian Lillard were trying to do. Their perimeter defense was elite, and gen Ronto stepped up shot over forty percent from three in

that series. So when people say, well, can you take those bubble numbers into account with his shooting last season, he's done it outside the bubble in the playoffs before two eight, six, ninety seven, two five seventy. Richard and Monroe via what's up? You're on Clippers top with Adam Oslin

Hey, Adam. First thing is the return investment in Reggie Jackson has been phenomenal, just like with Nick. And that's what people to talk about during trades and stuff, was you couldn't get well Reggie cost to have him here. No think Rondo that's going to turn around and make Reggie better. You

Richard is gonna make everybody better. And there's more court time freed up for Luke Kennard, who I truly believe they have to maximize his talent this season if they're going to win a championship and he's been more in rhythm lately obviously had the eight for eight ridiculous game, but same with Terrence Mann. It often offers more court time and more shots up to two guys that are going to be needed at times in the playoffs. They're gonna have to make their

mark with them. But yes, for gen Rondo makes the game easier for everyone. The other question I have is do they go against the cap space and can we utilize that from one of those open spots. That's a good question. I'll look that up or I'll text Eric Pinkas you may have some insight on that NBA cap ology. Let's go to Jose and south Gate. Jose, what's up? You're on? Clippers? Stop with that. I'm

awesome. June twenty six, twenty nineteen, Sweet Pepper Lou was on Warehouse shoe store on Western the block away where I grew up from he met all the VIP members, I mean we whatever, you know, the at bost first to meet him, and he had somewhere else to be, and he waited for everybody else that was in line to meet him. At that time.

It was either get a picture or a signature. So me and my girl and okay, you know what, my girl got a signature for my son, and me and my son got a picture with lou I'm looking at that right now, like, let's go Louise. Thank you yesterday Adam right, gain't even I didn't even get the half we wanted to stay. But let me say this to Adam, thank you, to Noah, thank you to Rob Lawler, thank you to all everybody else want to know. Oh

they brody on what's the Clippers radio station? They want to know what good things have to stay. We have to say this. Ever since Tylo showed the zoo box, can't post the writing stump. He's being dunking everything. Karen shout out state, y'll just turns man. He's learning under crit Lamely

or Patrick Beverley. Now on the rondo, do you not understand Let's go clip Jose and Southgate, thank you for the phone call and the enthusiasm and positivity there as always, But it's not even just what Gen Rondo can do on the court for this team. Even if he's only playing fifteen to twenty minutes a night in the playoffs, he'll be playing critical minutes at times,

but also his leadership. He has a relationship going back to his Boston days what the head coach Tlu Everybody always says, and it's a cliche and an old adage that a prototypical point guard is an extension of the head coach. Oh, Gen Rondo's gonna be that in spades. He's gonna know exactly how t Lou wants this offense and defense run out there, and he's been a great two way player throughout his career. But I know it's a hard day

also for Clipper Nation because we're always gonna love Sweet Lou Williams. What's cool about this team over the last few years is even when guys get moved, even when you love those guys, you can continue on following them a little bit I have with Tobias Harris, and they're easy guys to root for because the Clippers have been bringing in all these high character players, and there's no difference with what happened today with Sweet Lou Williams. I'll continue to track him

and see what he does with the Atlanta Hawks. They won't match up against the Clippers the rest of the season, they've already played twice, but guys like him, I remember following Jawan Evans after we left the Clippers Ty Wallace. They just find these high level character players who are also great competitors, great people too, And that was something our last color spoke to CJ and Alhambra. CJ, you're on Clippers stiff without hm Oslin either, so listen.

I really wanted to give a grade for both the night's game, as was the transaction, but before I do, I want to apologize for last night not in the right state of mind. I shouldn't have been talking to anybody, let alone on the phone. Hey, who am I to judge? It's all good water under the bridge, CJ. Hey, all right, Well, all that being said, tonight's game was an a a considering that we didn't have the claw Twin Morris ninety four feet, mister Patev and

Ibaka, these guys answered. These guys played like last night, A well balanced game, and it was both inside and outside and it was just exciting. But I think really what it came down to was that it was the inspiration of Lou Williams that really pulled some of our younger guys like Terrence Mann through. And you know, sweet Lou is a guy who I really think, you know it is probably the fifth best player that this organization has who's

laced it up and dressed in the uniform. Now, all that being said, I do want to get to the grade on the transaction, and I gave it some I had a knee jerk reaction at first. I gave it some primatic thought. I was trying to be objective and I'd say a as an, a big fat fail. Why is that horrible? This was? This was horrible, CJ. You can't just say it's all right, I

will. This is a guy who's sixteen hours before he's bounced records his fifteen thousand mark career point, on top of which he was the second of two players to be a third winner at Best sixth Man, and the first was Jamal Crawford, another former Clipper. Clipper excuse me, and just like Jamal won it twice while suiting up for the Clippers, and c J that's not going anywhere, that history that's still with the Clippers. Those are all moments

we can celebrate. And last night in some ways was poetic that he got to his fifteen thousand point as a Clipper because he played his best basketball with the Clippers. I get all that, but here comes the big rub, Like, here here's the insult. For insults thirled upon the injury was one, we not only gave up lou Will, but two second round picks. We see the biggest insult. The biggest insult was who did we get?

We got Rajan Rondo, CJ. We got we got a two time NBA champion that just made a huge impact for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. Just go back and watch that footage and look at what gen Rondo was able to do throughout the playoffs for the Lakers. He was arguably their third most important player behind Lebron James and Anthony Davis. At times, Ksep had his moments as well, But gen Rondo is that steady leader on the court that

has been there and done that. And I understand some people are upset about the mood or upset about the move and are in a mood, but you gotta give it time. You gotta let it marinate a little bit, because

I know there's that type of reaction when you're emotional in the moment. Because of all sweet loew Williams has meant to this franchise, the Clippers are trying to win a championship this season, and to have someone like gen Rondo on the court to unlock the best versions of PG thirteen and Kawhi Leonard is huge because the difference between Jen Rondo and Lou Williams, well, they're two very different players. But I'll say this, when Jane isn't scoring, he can

still find other ways to impact the game greatly. And that's big. And the Clippers have needed somebody to keep them in sync offensively, and I think he's going to be able to do that. We'll take a quick break, We'll come back. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy tough day. I know, Clipper Nation, but I'm telling you the Gen Rondo's gonna help this team. He has the pedigree, he has the resume to back it. Up. I know

there's some Lakers fans upset today too. In fact, I heard their head coach Frank Vogel saying, well, outside of when he's playing US, I'll still roof for Rondo so much he meant to that team. That's how you know it was a good move. Eight six, six, nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy or get to me at follow Adam A Clippers win by thirteen. They make it four straight. They're coming back home Saturday night to take on Doc Rivers in the Philadelphia

seventy six ers. More on that too. You're listening to Clippers stock. I'm atam Mosland and this is a five seventy yel a sports snagger, Paul George. This is the official home of your LA Clippers. Don't miss a moment of Clippers basketball all season long. The Clippers time traveled back to the mid nineties and they held the San Antonio Spurs to eighty five points. Tonight,

they win ninety eight to eighty five. Without Kawhi Leonard, without Marcus Moore's, without Pat Bab or Sir Jebaca, they still find a way to get it done. Paul George finished with twenty four Reggie Jackson led them with twenty eight points, sixteen of those in the fourth quarter when five of ten from distance, the final three he hits, and we'll try to find this audio for you, but he's fading away in the corner and it's just a

thing of beauty and he's had all the confidence in the world. Catchen shoot. Reggie is a real thing. Bail out Reggie is a real thing. When in doubt, let Reggie Jackson bail you out. Here was that three pointer with Noah. You go on the call now eight to shoot, working on peartle on the far side, corner, five to shoot, step back quarter three. Oh, Reggie Jackson, the dagger, the mood ball. The prayer was answered. Reggie Jackson going eight of sixteen. But it's the

moments of when they need him most that he seems to step up. I'm thinking back to when the Clippers came back down eighteen in Miami, when they were shorthanded that night. Two Reggie Jackson. And it's not just him. Patrick Patterson gets the start tonight because they're down so many guys, and Pat pat goes three of three, just add water and his shot was wet. He had seven points a mere coffee off the bench, played twenty four minutes. He's a couple of three pointers. Also had a nice pass to Pat

Patton the third quarter for an easy bucket. Also had a huge throwdown off of his own steel. This team, I said, it reminds me of the twenty seven twenty eighteen Clippers team a little bit tonight because they were really undermanned at times. Then two they didn't have Terrence Man, as you could say under man. But now with Terrence Man, things have been a little bit different. But there were some of those vibes tonight from this Clippers team.

And it was just apropo with Lou Williams being traded today to the Atlanta Hawks for Gen Rondo, But it reminded me of those times times where sweet loew Williams should have been an All Star that season was leading the Clippers, and we thank him for having his best years with the Clippers and giving us so many of those memories. We can talk about those, and let's also talk about Jen Rondo and what he's going to be able to do for this

team, because I think he takes them to another level. He adds another dimension that they were missing offensively. Yeah, it's great that Kawhi Leonard and PG thirteen have both turned into much better facilitators. But now you have that traditional floor general out there, and he's gonna make a huge difference down the stretch in playoff games where you're executing in the half court a lot, and it comes down to little things in a seven game series when you're seeing a

team over and over again. And Jon Rondo is one of the smartest players in the league. Even when he's not out there, he's thinking the game. This is a future head coach. By the way, He's reunited with one of his old assistant coaches in t Lou. Welcome back in the Clipper stock. I'm at a Moslin to eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy still to come to Homer Azari and we'll get some more of your phone calls. Morrison long Beach, what's up? And my brother let me tell

you them. Two people can come back to the Clippers family and get a standing ovation. Chris Paul and brother Lou Williams. You're right, Lou Williams gave us the best you know, the guild team is going to follow some kind of way today. It's a business, but I think it feels the right way. We sent him to a place he's familiar with, a team where he can win, okay, and I think he's gonna do real well there. But in terms of Rondo, Rondo has been in He's a quarterback.

The only thing we want to be concerned with it, if there's any any concerns, is that everything works out in the locker room. If that works out, look out America. Now you don't know what I'm gonna take away from this game, Adam. I have never seen this in my life. Nobody has shut down San Antonio thirty points and a half. Now, I've seen a guy go off with thirty points in a quarter, but that was too much. What am I saying? The Clipper defense is lethal?

I mean unbelievable. And if you was in Vegas, if you wasn't nobody gambles. But if you was in Vegas and they told you the surgery back up and Kawhi Lynard are not going to play tonight and they just thanked them the previous night, you say, well, the Trippers gotta lose tonight because they're gonna show some price tonight. They beat in San Antonio, and they

not only shut them down, they beat him even worse. Although the disparity and the points was this big, but thirty points for a half, that's embarrassing in the National Basketball Association. It reminds me of a Mike pro Tello team when he was twenty coaching back in Cleveland. When the score is like fifty five fifty four for the game. You know, this was incredible. So their defenses was happening, and that's what you need if you think about

winning that trophy because everybody could score. Look look at Brooklyn they because everybody could score, but can you stop somebody? So anyway, it's a good day for the Clippers. Have put you later, Morris, thank you for the phone call. As always, Yeah, I thought the defensive mentality that t Lew has been talking about so much, we're seeing it now consistently and they have a chance to have to put together a consistent run back at Staples

Center or as they're at home for their next nine games. But speaking of coach lou Let's hear from him post game after the Clippers win ninety eight to eighty five, All hard all hustle. This was a team victory, but a team that was shorthanded and everybody played a role in this one. Here was coach Lou speaking with the media. Hey, coach, what are you What are your thoughts on the effort tonight? You know, the team coming

out shorthanded and getting to win whatever was great. You know, anytime you played a good team and elect the Spurs and you shoot thirty eight percent from the field, score ninety eight points and still in the game, it just tells you about our effort and intensity. All the defense tonight we led missus shots, you know, getting away of us, you know, having a deefenessive mindset, and I thought of deepness, carrious the whole night. And

obviously kind of a bitter sweet day to see Lou go as well. Just what are your thoughts on I'm watching him sleep? You know, very bitter, you know over the last two years, just having a chance to be around Lou and now knew of them far, we always spoke, but to have a chance to actually be around him for two years and just seeing the person he was and what he meant so much to his team in the franchise.

Just tough, letting him go. And like I said, if you get a guy who's you know, three times six man the year and scored fifteen thousand points, most of them up a bench, and just you know, his contributions to this organization has been, you know, so incredible. And you know, this is the toughest part of the business, like I said, especially for me being traded a few times and knowing how that is. You know, so you know, we're gonna miss Lou dearly. You

know, I hate to see him go. Big part of what they've done here the last four years, you know, with him being a part of it, and you know, but what he's done with for us the last two years is I've been Thanks Charley. Next question from Andrew Graff, Go ahead, Andrew, ird to develop on that. Just what was it like in the first quarter you look down your bench to make your first sub and

LOUI wasn't there, Like is that just an yeah, it is. It's actually we talked about it a half time, you know, I said, we knew we were right now, you know, Well, like I said, he's gonna be missing for everything ball and not just basketball. I just think him as a person, That's what I love the most. You know, he's a great basketball player, just him as a human being and what he stood a board, how he always brew some morale in the team,

you know, with everybody around him. That's what's gonna be missed the most. Your relationship with Rajion. Obviously it's people who know about the Boston era. Did it go back even earlier than that, it can where you connect with him before you started coaching in Boston. Well, I've new him, you know, you know through KG because you know, KG being one of my best friends, and you know when the first went to Boston, being able to support them and get a chance to meet you know, Rondel early

on. But my four years of coaching there, he was pretty much my project, you know, doctor, you know made me stay on him and you know, so he's like my little brother for the most part. And just watching him grow and machillas about the years as a player and as a person, as a father, as a human game. I'm it just great to see. Thank you time. There was the head coach Tulu talking about the trade earlier. Today, Sweetlee Williams goes over to the Atlanta Hawks.

They bring in Rajon Rondo, a two time NBA champion, who absolutely is an orchestrator out there on the court. It's a beautiful thing to watch him run in offense, if you will followed his career, wherever he goes, they get better offensively, but specifically in the playoffs in big moments where he also hits frequently big shots. Eight six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. We'll take a quick break, we'll come back. We'll

have Toma Azarreli on from clutch points. The Clippers win their fourth straight. They down the San Antonio Spurs ninety eight to eighty five, and game two of this two game mini series, Clippers are eight no in the second game of back to back this season. Give him those back to backs in the playoffs. Okay, that'd be weird, but I don't know. There's something about this for the Clippers. Even with at Kawhi Leonard in this one, even without muk no serge, no pad beev, Clippers get it done.

They overcome more. Clippers talk up next right here on the M five seventy LA S fours letter there he erased it at the rim by never had a chains. This is LA Clippers basketball. On the official home of your LA Clippers. You're Los Angeles Clippers win in San Antonio again. They defeat the Spurs ninety eight to eighty five. With the starting lineup of Terrence Man PG.

Thirteen, Reggie Jackson, A Viza Zubots and Pat pat Patrick Patterson, they are able to win the second game of a back to back again eight. Knowing those situations and earlier today they upgraded their playoff rotation. Remember at the end of Game seven, after what happened in that series. I can't even remember myself, but I think it was the Denver Nuggets last year in

the second round of the playoffs. I don't want to get too deep into it, but remember postgame, Kawhi Leonard talked about needs this offseason and wanting to get smarter out there. Well, they just brought in the Bobby Fisher of players and Rashaun Rondo a court general, a floor general out there for the Clippers. It's been in need of theirs. We've taken calls on it all season long, and they got their guy, and I got my guy on the line. Right now, Telmara Azarrely from Clutch Points is joining the

show. He is one of my favorite analysts for the Clippers and reporters Tomaa. Before we get into the Rajen Rondo move to bring in here and Sweetlee Williams going to Atlanta, let's talk a little bit about how the Clippers got one of the most incomprehensible victories of the season where they had no business beating the San Antonio team tonight, but they just found a way to get it

done. Anyways, you know what, before the game, I was talking to Justin Russo and I told them, this is the game they're gonna win. I told them I was there a heart of Shi winning in this game. I decided feeling that even without Lou, even without Kauai and Marcus eventually out, this team just has guys who step up. And it's I don't know how to explain it. They just some guys who who step up, know their roles and when an opportunity like today presents yourself, like Terrence Mann

starting, you know you saw you had a double double from him. I think there's four double doubles in the starting lineup despite missing four starters. So it really tells you how deep the Clippers can be when they're clicking on all cylinders. And I mean, honestly, they weren't even clicking on all cylinders today. But I think they played well enough as a group, especially defensively, to get it done, to get the Spurs. I mean, holy

stan Antonio. The eighty five I've points was was certainly impressive. I think what impressive the most today was you know, Paul George, even though he didn't get the free throw a lot, a lot. I believed he had about nineteen shot attempt in the paint nineteen twenty eight to win the paint. So, you know, the paint attacks and the antities on getting into the paint that Tyler had been talking about. It one of the guys that's been talking about. Even with Kali, Marcus Leu, Pad Surge all gone,

that was still there. They were still putting an emphasis on getting inside and punishing the San Antonio Spurs. You know, we saw Zoobots. I think he took about it was it four free throws. You know, we really made them paint and started at seven offensive rebounds. It was just it was

just a collective effort for everyone. And I think it's just up though that Miami game, and you know, I can't even remember because They've had so many impressive games without starters that I don't remember the other one, but I think Miami has two of them. Yeah, you're right, effort, I can't remember. The effort was there, the will, the desire, and that heart for the Clippers. You mentioned the offensive rebounds from a beat to

Zoobots having seven. The Clippers as a team had fourteen. That's how they were able to win a game where they only shot thirty eight percent from the field. Plus they were able to take care of the basketball. But defensively they've been so good post All Star Break. Now have they had a breakthrough on that end? Has the message been received from coach t Loo to this team? Now? Tell Mary, do you think they've turned the corner? H Yeah, I thought that after last game. I thought after after they

beat down the Spurs yesterday, thirty point blowout. You know, it looked like that was three. You know, that was three in a row, three pretty solid games all around. I know, you know, Charlotte's been playing well, Lionel was playing really well. I just I just think it's a matter of effort, and I think, you know, the Clippers, it's tough. You know, usually during the season that January February three All Star right after All Star schedules kind of off. You just you're started just

going through the motions. You're not really playing at one hundred percent because you know, especially for a team like this, you're built to the playoffs. You're getting ready for the playoffs. And I think just like we saw last year after the All Star break, they've just turned it up. And I think we're seeing that right now. This team is is fully capable of turning it on with or without guys out due to injury. I think it's exactly

what we saw. I think, you know, ty Lou has had a couple of instances where he's lit into the team, and we've seen him come to the postgame press conference I want to say twice now where he's just been living. After the Pelicans game and after the first Memphis game, those were two of the times. Those are the maddest that I've seen ty Lou hit the dup exactly, and so so I think, like you said, it's really starting to click in their heads, like, Okay, this is this

is a though time. We really got to start putting pressure on on our opponents and in the standings, the second seat, maybe in the first seat is there for the taking right now. I mean, I think they're more concerned about playing well and playing as a unit and getting healthy. But you know, the second, maybe even the first seed, is the after taking. You just gotta play well, you know. The rest of the ta care of itself. So I think t Lewis preaching has finally got in there.

I think it's been there, but it's taken a few games to sort of click. And I think now we're starting to see it. We've got a nine game homestand coming up a huge opportunity to capitalize, but it depends on health. So all right, tell me, Eric, got about a minute and a half left here. As you mentioned, the Clippers on the three seed, just a half game back of the Phoenix Suns for the two

seed, but they make the move to bring in Rajon Rondo. What were your thoughts when you saw that go down with the WOJE bomb earlier today? I mean, initially, it's been it's it's it's a bit disappointing because you know, I've covered the Clippers for about five years now, and you know most of these use were Lou Williams, and he's always been, you know, a cost of a professional. You know, always a great guy to

talk to, always open to chatting basketball or non basketball. On the court, we've seen what he's done multiple times, six men a year, you know, all time leading bench scores. So that was great. Look, I'm I think I need to see something from Rondo to see how this team sits together. I know everyone says things the playmaker. I'd be curious to see how we messures in. You know, he knows ty Lou again, a relationship with him from Boston, so I'd be curious to see how how

they messed together. I think he'll take some time. But look, if we gotta playoff Rondo, the Clippers might get in good shape if they If they get that, so we'll see playoff Rondo seems to be a real thing. There are jerseys with playoff Rondo out there. He is Tomair Azarrely at Tommair t O M E r A z A r l Y follow him on Twitter. He covers the Clippers four clutch points. Tomare thanks for doing this

tonight. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me on night. Doing eight six, six, nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number before we break, because I don't want him screaming at me Saturday. Quickly, Jeff and Tarzana, you got thirty seconds, Adam? Would I ever scream at you? I think you just did. No, that's just my normal voice, Adam Love. I've got to give the Clippers really good credit tonight. To be four players down, actually five, to win a game against

San Antonio at on the road is fantastic. The other thing is was Kauhi out of the game tonight because he couldn't play two games in a role. No, he's been doing that. He just had a foot injury that popped up. All right. What would happen with Marcus Hors Marcus Morris had a right calf injury? All right? When are they supposed to get Beverly and and Bacca back? Jeff? You know I don't have those answers for you. Hopefully sooner than later. Okay. I was you know what, I

was not happy about the trade of Lou Williams today until TJ call. Then I got really happy because you realized how wrong he was and how wrong you must have been earlier. No, I wasn't wrong, but what I was thinking is the power off of the bench. Rondo is Ron is a very smart player, like you said, but he's also a coach killer. Dinny get kicked out of the Dallas because you couldn't get along with That was the only time there was an issue between him and a head coach, and he's

back with a coach and they have a bromance in TLU. Come on, Jeff, Clipper Nation, believe me if you took my advice when they brought in Pat Pat or Nicholas Batoum. I think things worked out there. It's gonna work out with for Gen Ronde, all right. Before we get out of here, I do want to thank the Clippers organization. Noah Ego, Brian Steam and Ralph Lawl are back here in Burbank. We had Samza get

well, Big bro Jake. Until Saturday, with the Clippers back home for nine straight home games, They're taken on Doc Rivers in the Philadelphia seventy six ers tip time at seven pm. We'll have your Clippers countdown show at six pm. I'm at a moslind We'll talk to you then
