Parents bad as pure once again, he's Clippers Talk. I got calls on Clippers Talk, immediate reaction and analysis to today's game. That's what he's capable of, hosted by your pre and post game voice of the La Clippers, Adam Osler. Just like looking at the sun, you don't stare at it. It's too risky. You get a sense of it, then you look away. Alright, all right. The Clippers then go blind. They hold on after leading by as many as thirty nine, they win by four over
the Phoenix Suns one thirteen to one O nine. Welcome into Clippers stock. I'm Autam Moslin eight six six ninety eight seven two five seventy eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number coming up you're gonna hear from the head coach and the players post game. I believe PG already spoke
with the media. We are efforting that audio for you now. As bad as the Clippers were in that fourth quarter where they were outscored by twenty two points and Ish Wainwright had a twenty point quarter, like he's Paul George where in his first game back against the Utah Jazz, and that twenty five point come back. He had that twenty point third quarter. The Sons made it
interesting. They didn't quit, and we talked about it early in the fourth, you know, with eight minutes left, Clippers only up by nineteen. Now it was thirty nine. They shaved twenty points off that lead. If it was the other way around, we'd be saying the Clippers still have a chance on this one, and the Suns most certainly did even without their big three, DeAndre cp three, Devin Booker Crowded didn't play in this one either, and they made it dicey for the Clippers where they had to run through
the table a little bit. Robert Covington Roco came through with the big three, as did Isaiah Hardenstein, who I don't know if he hit his first three in the first half as a Clipper in this game, but he did hit one in the first half. And the Clippers led by twenty nine at the half, and we're playing spectacular basketball, especially considering they just reimplemented Norman Powell back in and for the first time he played with Paul George. And
that's when the Clippers made their big run. In that second quarner, they went on a twenty one to oh run as The Phoenix Suns didn't score in the second until it was a Landry sham At three pointer and it came at the six fifty six mark, so they went over five minutes without scoring. Clippers held them to nine points in the second I believe that's the best mark
they've had against an opponent all season long. Holding them to thirty one in the first half certainly was, and it was the worst first half the Phoenix Suns had all year. Now, they didn't have their main guys, but the Clippers were just getting guys back. And to see Norman Powell come in late in the first quarter, he drives towards the basket, shows that ability
to get downhill to put that pressure on rim. His first bucket is a layup and then he hits a couple of threes and he started six of six, had fifteen points in that second quarter, had seventeen points in the first half, finished with twenty four points in just twenty three minutes. That is a huge takeaway from this ball game that Norman Powell not only did he come
back, he came back and hit the ground running. He was back to playing like Norman Powell, who is one of the better second or third options you can have in this league. For the Clippers to have him as a third option, a two way player like this who fits in the mold of Paul George, of Kawhi Leonard, somebody who wants to play defense, made his mark in the league playing defense, and then the offense came to him,
just like Kawhi Leonard. Paul George's offense came a little bit earlier, but he was still under the wing of Danny Granger and guys like that in Indiana. But Norman Powell is a bucket. He can score at all three levels. He makes it look easy, and he has that burst, He has that juice, that athleticism to get to the basket and get easy shots and put pressure on the defense. Where he attempted ten free throws. Paul George eleven Clippers don't win this game without getting to the line. Well,
they attempted forty four free throws total. They hit thirty five of them, and in the fourth quarter they were not scoring many buckets. Katie Newton, our producer here, noticed this. Midway through the fourth they had only hit three shots. It was the free throws. That was keeping them around and keeping Phoenix just enough at bay. But they outscored the Clippers forty eight to twenty six in that fourth quarter. So there's something to be learned from this
game. As well. As the Clippers executed in that first half, they had a letdown in that fourth quarter now that starters weren't in the backups were and they struggled. They had just to slew a turnovers after they really took care of the basketball in the first half, just seven turnovers in the first half. They had ten in the second half, leading to twenty six points. After they did such a great job in that second quarter turning over the
Phoenix Suns over and over again. First it was Roco, then it was Paul George with two steals, then it was Nick Batoum, and the Clippers were capitalizing on all these turnovers. They turned those eight turnovers in the first half to sixteen points during that five minute stretch where the Phoenix Suns went scoreless
and the Clippers went on that twenty one to oh run. It was the defense, suffocating defense, the type of defense that makes Clipper Nation want to call them hashtag wingstop because with all these interchangeable players, and guys who are positionless players, especially on defense, like Roco, Marcus Morris, Paul George, Nick Batoum and Normal and Powell Now and Terrence Man had a mere coffee.
It's unbelievable. I've never seen a team with this much versatility, with this many two way players, Guys that can beat you in a multitude of ways, Guys that have very few weaknesses. Now, some guys find their roles like being three in D players like Robert Covington. They don't have to be ISO scorers like Paul George. Not everybody's a superstar like that. He
has no weaknesses in his game. But what I love about guys like Robert Covington, and he said this yesterday at practice, he brought up the fact that I can take the burden, the scoring burden off the shoulders and the defensive burden off the shoulders of Paul George. Especially I shouldn't say the scoring burden that's going to be on Paul George, but what he does defensively makes the game easier offensively for Paul George. Because Roco, he embraces taking the
toughest assignment. He wants to guard the opposition's best player, and Paul George. I don't know how many times he's had teammates like that with the Clippers, Yeah, because he's played with Kawhi Leonard a Ton. But to have Roco accept that challenge, to have Batoum accept that challenge. Norn Powell can guard one through three at an elite level and at times can guard four and five and emergency situations when he needs to. Terrence Man at times has guarded
all five positions out there and has been successful. A Mere Coffee We've talked about him being in that mold of Nick Batoum and Robert Covington, A three and D type of player who has some wiggle. Can you get to the basket too? Remember that three week stretch this season where I want to say it was mid January, A Mere Coffee was their best player. He was
the most consistent player out there. To have this much versatility paired up with a coach that is willing to tinker and find the perfect positions that will make his squad successful, that is just hand and glove, the right fit and this Clippers team, their versatility is one of their strengths, as is their resilient nature. But are we a little bit concerned with what happened in the fourth quarter? Maybe we saw what happened against the Bowls. They were up
by sixteen, they let that one get away late. You don't want to be a team that can only come back, but teams come back on you as well. You want to make sure you close teams out. Now. They had done that the last couple of games against the Pelicans and then in Milwaukee. But tonight they got a little bit of a scare from Phoenix, ended up not getting burned. They still win by four, final score one thirteen to one. On nine, we'll take a quick time out here on
Clippers stock. We'll come back. We'll get to your phone calls. I see TGS and Morris are online eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six ninety eight seven two five seventy. I'm out a Moslin. You're listening to Clippers stalk. You're on a five seventy LA sports. Take it it didn't go it back. I'm a hawk, s Sam, you're listening to Los Angeles Clippers basketball. He goes all the way to the ram, but sky scraping jam. This is the official home of your La Clippers.
I don't know, but today Slippers hold on no bucket from the doll no small. They win one thirteen, so one O nine after leading by thirty nine, but over the Phoenix Suns. I'm out a Moslin. This is Clippers Talk. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy talks a little bit about Norman Powell and
his return. Understandably, he was fantastic tonight six of ten, but started six of six at fifteen points in the second quarter, finish with twenty four and twenty three minutes. But Paul George had ten points in the first six minutes of the first quarter. He finished with nineteen and got to the free throw line over and over again. But the high level passes that he made tonight, the kickouts he made just his playmaking, and we've seen it since
he's returned. And we should also say congratulations of Paul George. He reached the fifteen thousand career point mark. There's only one hundred and forty four players who have ever scored that many points. There are sixteen active players right now. Fifteen thousand points congratulations of Paul George. But it wasn't a scoring that
wowed me in this one. It was a kickout pass to Norman Powell in the first half, underneath the basket, one to Marcus Morrison the third quarter, a pass ahead to Terrence Man getting in transition his vision, and that's something they worked on since he's been a Clipper but a lot last year, that playmaking. That is the one area that he could still improve in,
and he's good. He's definitely not flawed in that area. But he can also raise his game with his passes, with his dishes because they load up on him all the time, and the Clippers have shooters everywhere and guys that are unselfish players that are looking for the basketball that are also making the game easier on Paul George, and he knows that and he wants to reward those teammates, and he did so tonight. He was a plus thirty one.
That was the plus minus high for any Clipper in this game. They led by as many as thirty nine. They win one thirteen to one on nine. Let's go to Morris and Long Beach to start things off here. On Clippers Stock Morris, what's up. It's amazing how three guys can change the destiny of a team. I'm talking about Paul Covington and Paul George. Unbelievable. And I'm gonna tell you something. I don't care what happened in the fourth quote. I saw the game. I don't care who's the Clippers played
tonight. It didn't make no difference wherever the Clippers players. They were gonna lose. They were gonna lose with these guys. These guys are ready to play right now. I mean the other day, it was the Milwaukee game. It was the Milwaukee game. I'll never forget this. They showed the camera on Tyrone Lou. I think I shared this with you, and Tyrone Lou looks like he found a whole lot of money but didn't want to tell nobody if he knows he's got a team now. I know he's got a
team now, and I think the NBA recognizes it too. And you do. Like the pretty Gold breaks people's hearts, the boys heart. Sometimes somebody gonna get their heartbroken in the first round. You watch what I'm sharing with you. I'll talk to you later. Double all right, Morris to get there. The Clippers have to win. Well, they win their first playing game, that would be the seven eight matchup, they'll be in the eighth spot. It looks like they'll be playing Minnesota, but it's not concrete yet.
But if they won that, they would become the seventh seed. If they lost that game and they won the next one against the winner of the nine ten playing they would become the eighth seed and take on the Phoenix Suns. So a big game and a variety of ways tonight for the Clippers. Tags and Walnut, you're a Clippers stock without Aim Awsome. What's up, Gray, Adam? What's up? Great to see Norm back on the court. You can almost play devil's advocate whether you wanted to bring him off the
bench or start them to bring him off the bench. He can, you know, help you know what really matters, Tags, those closing lineups, that's what matters most, or the lineup to get you back into a game if you're down, and Coach Lew's gonna find those combinations and rotations. Yeah, I agree, It's just we used to have. I mean, we had that habit of getting down early on in the with our starters sometimes. So I guess he could always plug in Norman if he wants a little earlier.
But I was just gonna talk about a Roco when we lost Pat Bev. I feel like if you had to find a replacement, Roco would be almost that fit at what Pat Bev gave. I mean, they both play, like you know, with their hearts. They both played great defense, excellent defense. They both make those timely threes and and what's underrated is that they always end up to end up finding that loose ball, Like if you're up one and you miss and they're like ten seconds left. You know,
Pat Bev would always find that loose bawn. Roko does the same thing. So time the offensive rebounds too, Yeah, he always finds those. And those are game winning players that Pat Bev used to, you know, provide us. And you can see that in Roco and it. And the good thing is is I'm pretty sure we have his bird right. So it doesn't hurt to have an owner with deep pockets and pay him a little bit more and keep him a Clipper for a long time. But I'm hoping that Roco
makes All NBA Defensive team. This here, what do you think he should ninety steels, ninety blocks, he's been a menace. He's been even better as a Clipper. It's hard to make as much of an impact with that Portland Trailblazers team because there were just too many holes on the defensive end. There are too many leaks. He can't cover them all up. It's a whack a mole. And as good as he is on a team like that, if you only have one good defender out there, one really good defender,
it's hard to make as much of an impact. But on this Clippers team, they play five guys on a string. The defensive saved them for the majority of this season. Now there's been some slippits recently. Coach Lewis talked about that, but since Paul George has come back, he's really set the tone on that end. And he had three steals and two blocks in this one. The Clippers had nine has a team. Hardenstein had a couple of great blocks in this game. Speaking of coach lew we'll take a quick
time out, we'll come back. We'll hear from him. After the Clippers hold on. They were up as many as thirty nine. They win one thirteen to one on nine over the Phoenix Suns and then there were two just two more games, game eighty one and eighty two, both of them coming up this weekend. When don't you know what this Clipper schedule this season? They would end things off with a back to back against Sacramentum and against Okay.
See, they still have an opportunity to finish this year above five hundred. They have the current record. They've had ten straight seasons of winning basketball, but trying to get to eleven. I heard from Zubot's post game with Noah Eagles say that there's a goal of nurse and then they'll have an opportunity to do so. Coach lew up next year on Clipper Stock on Amp five seventy ELI Sports, Timahawks Slam. You're listening to Los Angeles Clippers basketball,
ram Us Sky scraping Jam. This is the fish a home of your LA Clippers. Don't like it, don't glam playing in the hell. Money to pay down for my dog that's locked in the bang when you hit the break to you whip money. Come on, Clippers, make it three in a row. They win one thirteen to one on nine over the Suns. They led by as many as thirty nine and they were close to having a five
game winning streak. They've won four or five. That lone loss came in overtime against the Chicago Bulls in a game they led by as many as sixteen. Paul George wasn't able to play an ot he was on a minute restriction tonight. Norman Powell returned on one made the most of his minutes though. In twenty three minutes he had twenty four points and started six of six from
the field. And it's just so smooth with it, like Paul George effortless makes it look so easy out there, getting shots up and getting by defenders. And I can't stress this enough of how much he's in the mole of a clipper. Well, he won a championship with Kawhi Leonard in twenty nineteen in Toronto, and they've got a great culture there too, and those guys play both ways. But he hung his hat on his defense to start his offense came around and now he's got a bag. He's got a bag of
tricks. He's got a lot of different moves he can beat you with. And to be playing off of Paul George now and we're still hoping, obviously for Kawhi Leonard, but we don't know he was at practice but was just shooting around by himself early before practice yesterday. But this team, they're building things the right way. The team building by this front office has been damned near perfect. I think they're the best front office in sports. MAT's with
the best owner and the best head coach in the NBA. And now they got the roster if they can't get healthy. I said this on Twitter. Who's a more dangerous seventh and eight seed you've seen? Okay, yeah, the Brooklyn Nets you could say that as well. This season. It just so happens both of the most dangerous teams at the bottom of the standings that we've seen because injury influenced records. That's what it's been with the Clippers.
But they're still forty and forty somehow. Paul George's only played thirty games, but Toomas missed twenty so games, twenty or so games, same with Marcus Morris, Kawai hasn't Kway hasn't played in the game all season, and they're still right now at five hundred with a chance to finish this season over five hundred for the eleventh straight year. Longest streak in the NBA. Let's hear from coach lu though post game Clippers win by four over the Suns and downtown
Los Angeles here, who's your head coach? How do you feel like Norm made it on it tonight? He made the day. He feels good, no injuries, the way you play was good, and just see MBA attack the basket, make shots and just have good to see him on the floor.
Is there anything in particular as far as who he was playing with that you felt particularly encouraged by or I got to look at the film and check it out, but you know, still kind of messed up because Luke was on the floor, so trying to figure out our lotations once Luke get back. Luke gets back and so but like seeing him on the floor with PG and Reggie, you know, a little bit was encouraging and just not just gotta get him caught up on the plays and just how we want to play
when he's on the floor. But you know, like you said, you can seek to score the basketball at ease and get to the free throw line, get to the basket and make his open shots and sot of just encouraging to see on the floor midway through the third quarter. Even when you were guys were up by thirty nine, there was a couple offensive possessions where you didn't look happy, like I remember specifically Reggie through an alley with to PG. You were not happy with the set that they ran, even though you
know the lead dwindled. Do you kind of look at a game like this where you won, but there's also a lot of things that you can take from it to kind of preach to the guys. Really, and I thought we played a hell of a game, you know. I just think, you know, we gotta do a better job just running through the finish line, you know. And you know, being up thirty nine point six, team's gonna continue to keep playing, you know, Monty Williams, you know, coach of the Year on the job. He's done, So the guy's
gonna keep playing. But you know, if we'd got our starters back in the game, of course, you know, it probably would have been different. But I wasn't bringing them back, So you know, just play the right way. You know. We we came out of time out three times, we ran the wrong play, was in the wrong spots, you know, So those are things we got continue to stay focused on even when we were up big big, So just can never relax because you never know what
happened. You know, we were down thirty five and came back in one, and you know they were down thirty nine almost came back and one you know as well. So you can never relax in the NBA. You know these the players are too good, the coaches are too good, and soon as you let your guard down, things like this happened. So it still learn learning experience from that standpoint. But you know, the first three quarters, you know, I d see some good things. You know what our
team can be. And now we got to incorporated Luke and just kind of see what our rotation is gonna be and what it looks like come Saturday. A couple of minutes, you ran Nico, Rocco and pg together for a couple of minutes, and again, what did you make of them? I can't remember, I not really can't. I know, I'm serious, I gotta watch it. I really don't remember. But I wanted to get to norm pg Roll called Nico and Marcus one time, but we didn't get a
chance to get to that. But what what tried out on Saturday? And just kind of see how it looks. How's Luke do you do? You know it is this gonna be like a any idea? Aston just be a one game thing, I think. And so he had two days off, and it had today, which is three and then two more. So it's five days off and hopefully he feels better about them. Okay, hey, coach, try do you think you guys handled the physicality day prop tonight? I thought we were good outside of the fourth quarter. You know, I
thought they'd got a lot of offensive rebounds. You know, beyond Bo was physical his physicality in the fourth quarter. But the first three quarters, I thought we did a good job of just you know, rebounding to basketball. They missed some shots, one scoring nine points in that second quarter, so it's gonna be some offensive rebounds that they get. But I thought physicality was
We did a good job of helping their physicality pretty well. What would you say you was concerned about the way you guys finished to you need to finish to go across the tape. I guess how do you do that? What do you talk to your players about the last year we had in you know, they haven't played together a lot and you know, I think you know with team Man, you know, playing a point, they got him, pressured him a little bit, and so we really couldn't run the offense.
But we want to run the offense, and they got they did a good job of just getting into us and I'm pressured us and so we didn't handle that very well. But you know, I mean, once you get normal PG or Reggie back on the floor, that could easily change. But we're gonna bring our guys back, and they took advantage of that, and so you know, that's the learning experience for our young guys as well. Continue
to play through the game. You can't relax, can't get comfortable, and like I said, you know, Money's gonna you know, a hell of a job of building that culture over there, and you can never give up. You know, you never know what's gonna happen. And like I said, that's why he's my culture the year this year. It's not just about learning from failures. You can learn in victory too, and Coach Flew they are talking about them runs through the tape. Don't be like Kenny Smith,
be like c Webb on the NBA and TNT. If you guys remember that moment, Clippers win one thirteen to one oh nine. They went by four after leading by as many as thirty nine on the Phoenix Suns. Clippers win one thirteen to one on nine over the Phoenix Suns after leading by as many as thirty nine. I'm out of Maslin. This is clip or stalk. I just saw this quote from Norman Powell and came back and at twenty four and twenty three minutes said it's regarding if they have
enough time to build up that chemistry quote. We have a pretty veteran team. To plug in me and PG and get us back up to speed and healthy, I think is going to be really easy, and mentioned the depth, reminding him in the firepower of the twenty nineteen Toronto Raptors that won at all, and I think it's a good lesson and what this Clippers front office has done with putting together guys that fit. If you look across the hall, and I'm not trying to pile on the Lakers do that in my NBA
reports, but that's a different Adam. They had guys like Anthony Davis played forty games, Lebron played almost sixty. Westbrook played almost every game, and somehow it didn't matter. They didn't even make the play it. Clippers are forty and forty and Kauai hasn't touched the court. Yes, I mean figurably speaking, but Paul George has only played thirty games. Norman Powell has played four and he looks this good. And guys have come back and jailed that
quickly. It's because they fit together. There's chemistry, there's games that mesh So credits at the front office and coach Lou we're putting guys in the right position. Clipper's next game coming up Saturday against the Kings and downtown Los Angeles tip time six thirty. We'll have Clippers countdown at five thirty before we get out of here.
