Transcript

The game is over, Paul George money in the pain, but the postgame reaction has just begot Kawhi Leonard is so smooth in the mid range. This is Clippers locker Roo, a recap of today's game and a look ahead, your hope for LA Clippers basketball. And now your host, you sir, are a bad man, Adam Ousley, Clippers falling ot in Orlando, one sixteen to one eleven to the Magic. Welcome into your post game show. Coming up. We'll get your post game box score. They'll hear from the

head coach to Ron lou and we'll hear from the players. But first let's get back out to Orlando and back to your voice of the Clippers in Noah Eagle. So, Noah, how did you see this loss going down for the Clippers, Because to me, it comes down to long stretches without scoring the basketball in the second quarter and then going from the end of the third end of the fourth, and then the end of the fourth quarter they went three minutes scoreless. So yeah, that's part of it, no doubt about

it, Adam. But more importantly, I think there are a couple of things, and it's it's really been this main one has been one of the Achilles heels all seasons. Turnovers in that second quarter they started piling up and it allowed for Orlando to get a little bit of a rhythm. Clippers ended this game with seventeen turnovers. They had won in the first quarter. Orlando ended this game with thirteen turnovers. They had seven in the first quarter.

Think about that. For the final three quarters in overtime, Orlando had six turnovers and the Clippers had sixteen. That's the difference to me, because it just takes you out of your rhythm. The Clippers were playing with this swagger, with this rhythm in the first quarter guided them to an eighteen point lead,

but they didn't have it because they started turning the ball over. They get careless with the basketball, and that then leads to that scoreless streak, which they've had a couple of, not just today but over the last couple of games. But this is back to back games now against two of the lower level teams so to speak, around the NBA, in which the Clippers have had a big lead and they've given it up. And a main reason behind giving up that lead turnovers. And so that's what I look to more

than anything else, Yeah, up by eighteen. Kawhi Leonard finish is just four or fifteen, had a shot to win it at the end of regulation, came back in late in ot and just his rhythm overall still been off. But it was good to see him hit a couple of three parts. I guess you could say it was and look, the Clippers overall, excuse me, sorry, Adam. The Clippers overall shot it well from three fifteen to forty one for the game. But Toomb goes four of nine. Terrence

Man had a great game three of five. You know, he and a Vitza Zubots have been mainstays all season. They've been consistent just about all season and Zoobots once again sixteen and thirteen. Once he fouled out, it felt like the Clippers really lost a main component of what they were gonna do in overtime. But yes, it was nice to see Kawhi Leonard hit a couple of threes in this game. And overall, I just think that he's getting one step at a time better. Yes, but this is gonna take some

time, and it's gonna take a lot of patients. And like I said pregame, the good news is that we're only twenty six games now into the season after this one, still a long long way to go. Fifty six more of these, so there's a lot of runway left. But the Clippers gotta make sure that they are taking everything seriously. They're not underestimating any opponents, and it feels like they did that at some point tonight. Clippers will

play Game twenty seven tomorrow in Miami against the Heat. Tiptime for that one's at four thirty. We'll have your pregame shows starting at three thirty. Noah Ego great call is always say short travels. We'll talk to you tomorrow, Adam. You know it's always the same. Can't wait. Coming up next, we'll get to your post game box score and you'll hear from the head coach, Shron Lewis. The Clippers fall one sixteen to one to eleven in

Clippers losing a game where Paul George and Kawhi Leonard were available, played thirty or more minutes.

It was their second game back after missing some significant time. The team overall shot just forty one percent from the field, went fifteen to forty one from the outside. Thirty seven percent is decent from distance. It's about where they've been at on the season since they've had an uptick recently, but it's not great, and they started off much hotter than that. And the Clippers did have those seventeen turnovers Noah Eagle brought up post game, and they had

long stretches. You compile them together, thirteen minutes of just not hitting a field goal at critical points when the Magic were going on runs and the Clippers could not stop them. In the second quarter where the Magic had it to within three with a minute left, or G Jackson would score six straight.

Clippers up nine at the half, but then at the end of that third quarter, then going into the fourth, they went six minutes without a field goal, and then the end of the fourth and into ot three minutes scoreless and they would lose an overtime seventeen to twelve, where Kawai came in in the last minute as he just had one minute left on his minutes restriction.

Turns out it was thirty. Paul George came in in the final seconds to give the Clippers an opportunity for a three pointer, but they turned the basketball over, and quite frankly, that was the biggest story of the game. Turnovers at inopportunit times extra opportunities for the Orlando Magic, helping them feel good about themselves when they had just five wins on the season. The Clippers given their sixth Magic now six and twenty. Clippers dropped to fourteen and twelve.

Coming up next, we got postgame audio from Coach Lou and the players. Clippers fall in OT one sixteen to one eleven to the Magic. As you're listening to the Los Angeles Clippers radio help fall. You're gonna hear from coach Lou looking for player audio as well and William Updyke from Clips and Dip will be here. We'll do some clips and double dip. But to say, the least most disappointing, toughest, most difficult loss of the season for the Clippers easily. They had a day

of rest. Yeah, it was just game two with Kawai and Paul George back, and they struggled after PG looked to be in rhythm from the opening tip Monday in Charlotte. He goes three of twelve from the field, and mind you, Clippers up by eighteen in the first half because he started off hot with ten of his eleven points in the first quarter and he only took seven more shots the rest of the game. And the reason this is so

disappointing is because he and Kawai played at least thirty minutes. Kawhi hit the thirty minute mark, they brought him back late in overtime with a minute left. Paul George played thirty three. And those two are just four too talented to go four or fifteen like Kawhi Leonard did and three of twelve like Paul George did, and they both turned the basketball over at inopportune times. They combined for let me check the final box score. The final final official box

score Kauai with four turnovers, Paul George with four. Clippers had one turnover in the first quarter. They had sixteen the rest of the game the last three quarters. The Magic had I want to say six in the first quarter. They had just six turnovers no. Seven the rest of the way. So they cleaned things up. Clippers didn't. They both got up ninety five shots. Magic hit one more, but they also did some business at the free throw line and made twenty eight of the thirty one attempts. Clippers just

eighteen to twenty six hundred seventy percent. They've been around seventy two percent at the line this season. That's not great. They've been getting there lately. They're not knocking them down. They're struggling there. And three of them were missed by Moses Brown. Okay, a big man beats the zoobots, though miss some big ones in overtime after he had a huge and one opportunity and then went back to the line after he missed and the Clippers got the board

missed again. In a game like this, where the Clippers let go of an eighteen point lead and gave the Magic life a young team that had lost nine in a row, that I had lost eleven of twelve, had just five wins on the season. You give them some hope and some confidence at home. Yeah, they may nippet your heels and beat you, even in a game where Kawai and Paul George played over thirty minutes each. That's why it's so disappointing. And you wanted to see him build momentum off the Kawahi

game winner in Charlotte Monday night. None of that was to be. Terence Mann goes for a season high of nineteen and knocks down three three pointers in a losing effort. Just a lot of frustration in this one, because the Clippers had multiple chances to put it away and did up by nine at the half. They got back up by fifteen and the third quarter, but there were three deep scoring ruts in this one, scoring droughts like even California hasn't

seen it. In the second quarter, the Clippers went about four minutes without a field goal. It was a three point game where Reggie had a quick six point to end the first half, Clippers up by nine, but then in the third end of the third into the fourth, the Clippers went into a deep funk where I think it was about two minutes and twenty six seconds left. Terrence Man hit a three point in the third, and they wouldn't score again till the eight minute mark of the fourth quarter. That would be

the next time they hit a field goal. It was a Rowco two pointer with eight o nine left. From two twenty left in the third to eight minutes left in the fourth, they don't hit a field goal. And in between there there were some turnovers, and you still thought they were gonna pull it together because they showed a sense of urgency. Nicholas Batoum came in,

hit some big shots. Thought that was going to be the difference, a couple of big three pointers, a couple of dunks at the rim, really nice pass from Roco to him, and the Clippers looked to have control again. It was ninety seven eighty nine with four forty three left, step on

their throats and the game get to Miami. They couldn't do it. They went three minutes scoreless from the three twenty two mark on brutal and they lose an overtime after Kauai missed a fallow away fade away that was well off in regulation, and then Paul George had another opportunity. He heaved a three pointer on the right wing. He couldn't get it to go in regulation. Those

two don't start in two. Clippers are out there with rowcode, but tomb A mere coffee, Terrence Man and I eats a zoobots through the first four minutes until Kawhi Leonard comes back and they couldn't stop. Orlando, who had seventeen points in the five minutes of overtime, outscored the Clippers by five. Win by five one sixteen to one eleven eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy. We'll take a

quick time out, we'll come back. We'll hear from coach Lou, We'll get to your phone calls. William Updyke from Clips and Dip will be here as well. I know you're shaking your head right now, cliber Nation. I'm not sugarcoating it. That's the worst loss of the season. Hopefully, where's loss so far? Definitely, you get those minutes from Kawai and PG

when we don't know if either of them is gonna be playing tomorrow. This was one of those games on the front end of back to back, but you just gotta win coming off of what happened in Charlotte with the why game winner period eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. This is Clipper stock here on AM five seventy l A sports doctor sway is the name on my head of my game steal

cupping my leave step with the beats steal note is blocked by George. This is LA Clippers basketball. He is a one man record crawl the defensive man on the home of your LA Clippers Clippers for alinquish in eighteen point on lead in Orlando and losing overtime one sixteen to one, eleven to now a six win magic team on the front end of a back to back, tough one.

Welcome back in the Clippers Stock. I'm Adam Oslin eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six ninety eight seven two five seventy. We talked about the end of the fourth quarter. Clippers go three minutes and twenty one seconds without scoring a point. They were up ninety seven and eighty nine. You're leading by eight with four minutes left, all right, almost five forty three left. They missed the last or the last eight shots they

took. Five of them were threes. Look some of those are really good looks. Nicholas Batoum airballed a wide open three point on the left wing that I would have bet money would have made. It was a typical Nicholas Batoum big time three moment, and he missed it bad. And the Clippers just kind of unraveled multiple times in this game offensively where you put all those long,

deep funks together, those stretches. They went without scoring in a totals thirteen minutes of this ball game where they went without making a field goal against a struggling Orlando Magic team had lost nine straight, were four and nine at home. But you let a team hang around, cut into your lead, up eighteen, up fifteen, you turn the basketball over after only having one turnover in that first quarter, they have sixteen in the last three combined.

Well, you make it team feel good about themselves. They still have twelve of the best four hundred and fifty basketball players in the world and they can beat you. Let's hear from coach lou post game Clippers lose one sixteen to one to eleven and in overtime in Orlando to the Magic. I thought I went pretty good. I thought, you know, Bench came in was you know, played pretty well, and yeah, I just couldn't get the job

done. But I thought I did a good job just staying in the game, and you know posting Zoo Zoo got a couple of touches and got a one and another jump hug, you know, throughout the course of that, you know, and so they did a good job. You know, I just thought that once we got the lead, we just didn't do a good job of you know, playing the same way the guys to lead, and so they went to the blitzes and they went to heavy shrinks and loads on

Kawhi and them. But you know, we have seventeen turnovers with twenty nine points, and so we just can't give the team like this easy baskets. You know, it's hard for them to score. It gets our half court defense, but they got a lot, you know, off our turnovers and then transition. Sorry that I was just somebody much that that obviously made this limited. Seeing PG QUI REGI end of graduation, What did PG asked to

go into quilt. There's the final stretches of over time. Did they asked to go in for Yeah, they wanted to go in, but Kawily had a minute left, so you know, we try to save them. And like I said, I thought a mirror and zoo and that that group was in. I thought I did a good job, you know, just holding it down, and you know, unfortunately we couldn't get the win. And so they play well. Like I said, Moses is doing a good job. They're gonna play hard, They're gonna compete. They're long and athletic,

and you know they're blitzers. In that second quarter really changed the game for them, and we didn't handle it well hold it up really first quarter to five shots, ten points. I think he went took seven shots after that. Did you see that more as a factor of being deferentially in a good way where you can be more AGGRESSI not. I thought the blitzes that just trying to take him out of the game. Like say, scored pretty easy early on in the game, and Moles did a good job of just changed

up his coverage. Is going to the blitz and trying to get the ball out of PG and Coli'S hands, and so they did a good job with that, and even in the second half doing a little bit of the same. But PG was able to pick him apart a little bit in the second half with Zoo in the middle of the floor, you know, making a pass, Nico got a back door, a dunk, Zoo got a dunk, a couple of layups, a couple of threes, and so we was

able to do a better job with that in the second half. So you know, we got I gotta do a better job of get him in a better rhythm, you know. But they did do a good job, like you said, of just trying to take it out of his hands. Those Clippers seventeen turnovers we talked about and coach lu touched upon there too, turned into twenty nine points for the Orlando Magic. It's hard to win a basketball game when you turn the ball over that much. And the Magic had nineteen

points on second chance opportunities as well. They ended up sixteen offensive rebounds. Clippers had seventeen, but they didn't take advantage of them. They were just six of sixteen on those second chance opportunities, and they lose in overtime. One sixteen to one to eleven to the Orlando Magic. Coming up next, we'll hear from William Updyke from Clips and Dip after put up a downer coming off the big victory, the Kawhi game winner. He's back Monday night in

Charlotte and the Clippers have an eighteen point lead. You're thinking they're going to run away with this one. Maybe give their superstars rest instead. Those guys were pushing the minutes restrictions limit late in a loss and now they got to get right back after it. And we'll see who's available tomorrow in Miami against a Heat that's hungry and it's got been off to a slow start this year. It's not gonna be easy. More Clipper Stock. Next, you're on

AM five seventy el Sports Night seems the free mind at night. Some things will never change. The lonely loaners seems the free at mind at night and bed night. Last time that I was five chains on my neck, it was no sm on my Clippers lose by five and overtime in Orlando to the Magic. This is Clipper Stock. I'm outam Oslin to eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy or get to me and I follow Adam a see if we've got a player audio. But we'll get to your phone calls regardless.

But on the Super Secret Guest hot Line, we got our friend William up Dyke from Clips and Dip. We're doing some clips and double dip here even after a loss like this, will thanks for doing this tonight. What do you attribute this loss too? Mostly? What do you think was most responsible for the Clippers having an eighteen point lead and giving it away and losing it overtime? I mean it's turnovers and some of the difficulties defending without fouling,

especially there in the stretch once the Zubos fouled out. I mean, you know, Powell Bank hero was at the line to really finch this one.

I do want to say, though, I do want to preface this by saying like I don't want to I don't want people to get too caught up in this loss, because I feel like attributing this to the Clippers, like it just reminds me of I was like instantly got flashbacks of like two seasons ago, when everyone was making much ado about nothing about the Clippers clutch time stats when they had played like the least amount of clutch time minutes in the league and like to drop an overtime one on the road. I mean,

I'm not gonna lie. This one stings, especially just because of some of the great performances we've got out of some of our guys. But in the grand scheme of things, man, it is what it is. It's a road. You're playing a team that block what ninth straight like they got

a snap that streak at some point. It sucks that it happens against you, and it sucks in the way that it ultimately ended, but you know, it's kind of onto the next for the Clippers and for me personally well, especially especially sucks because the Clippers had Kawai and Paul George play at least thirty minutes in this one, and both stars finished with more shots than points,

neither had more field goals than turnovers. That was from Law Murray of the Athletic I just haven't seen them struggle that mightily together when they're out there on the court. They've been so good, and really after the first quarter, neither guy could get it going. Even in overtime when they brought back in Kawhi Leonard, they just could not find their offense, and there were

multiple times in this game. I brought it up already, but where they went through drafts of six minutes, three minutes, four minutes of just not scoring a fuel goal. And some of that is because the overs. Some of that maybe just shot selection and chemistry issues. But I'm curious to see what you saw out there from the two superstars, man, So I do want to start with the goods, like I do like some of these the minutes, especially late in game when we're running Paul George sort of as the

de facto guard. I like that lineup. I believe it was, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, But Paul George, Kauai, Nico Betune, Terrence Man and Viza Zubat I saw some good stuff. And I mean, look, man, I it was a close game. It was too close for comfort. There were multiple times where I did feel like the Clippers could have run away from this runaway with this one. But yeah,

it was some puzzling play from from both the stars. And you know, we talked about this too, right like when we were talking about previewing this game. I mean, there's a couple of young wings on this team that are ready to take advantage of a on this team being the Orlando Magic Core, as ready to take advantage of an opportunity and take advantage of an opponent, if you know, if they're caught kind of slipping. And I think we saw that from the Clippers, but I I ultimately, like,

I mean, Paul George after that first quarter like was so rough. But I you know, other than a couple of four threes, I I really I there wasn't a whole lot like those were shots that I felt like were makable Paul George shots, you know what I mean, Like I it's a it's so cliche, but it's it's a maker mis league and we just like could not buy a bucket at times when it counted tonight, and it's it's

brutal. It's absolutely brutal, and it sucks. And I know that like the you know, the headline from this is gonna be Magic strap that snapped their winning streak against Clippers with Kawai and Paul George. But it just wasn't their night. Was it just was not their night. And sometimes on a on a road trip, it'll happen. I do still like the way that they fall through this one. I like that even on the minutes restriction we did see Kawhi Leonard late. You know, It's just it's so many good

little things that were just offset by by so many errors. I mean, oh man after the game that the Tomb had that that inbound. It's just things like that, like where it h we talk a lot about on the podcast. You know, like sometimes in this development process or this this you know, championship building process, sometimes it does feel like one step forward, two steps back. Tonight was a two step back night. But it doesn't mean they can't take another step forward on this road trip. Yeah, see

in a five second violation was just bizarre. And but Tomb also airball a three pointer in the fourth quarter that was a wide open look after Kawhi collapsed the defense, and then the next possession Paul George miss badly on a good look from three. There were some of those shots as just did not go for them. And but two him overall had a really good game. He had sixteen points, hit four three pointers, hit some clutch shots. I never were to guess on that wide open one. Maybe it was a little

bit too easy for him, But those those he usually knocks down. Now there were positives. Roco got run. He played twenty five minutes and had his own five oh spurt in that fourth quarter that helped get them back the lead. I believe. It was finished with ten points, four of nine, a couple of blocks of steel. I thought Robert Covington pretty much looked like himself and everybody who has been, you know, screaming for him to get more minutes he did in this one. Yeah, yeah, he absolutely

did. Some of them were even with Moses Brown, who he appears to be running against at some running against in minutes in this one. But yeah, it was just it was just some of those errors, right, and I do some of those like critical errors late. I just I guess I do have to chuck up a little bit to fatigue and being on the road. But it was very much. It was just disappointing to see that kind

of undone. And I mean we haven't even talked about Terrence Man yet, who had just an absolute monster of a game nineteen nine and four in a losing effort, And it's just it's just tough to watch. It's a tough till to swallow, for sure, especially just not getting getting what you need out of your top tier talent. That's there's no way around it. It's

really really rough. But like I said this to me, like it's it wasn't as undoing as as some of the better progressions that we've seen in the limited times since Kawai and Paul Georgia's died, and they've rarely been this bad when they're both out there together. In fact, I think I posted their

record a little bit earlier today. I'm trying to look for that, but they've basically been on a sixty one game win pace when those two both play, So for them to be this uncharacteristically bad, yeah, there's seventy six and thirty three over all the Clippers when Kawai and Paul George are both out there, that's fantastic. Now I guess it's seventy six and thirty four, and this is the Clippers first loss of the season with Kawhi lent and in

the starting lineup, isn't that? Yeah it is. They were four and ozer. So a lot of outlier maybe effects and issues here that you throw out and say that's not the norm for this Clippers team, But ultimately it's still very disappointing because this was the one you felt like you really had to get with those two playing and knowing you're going into Miami tomorrow. Now they've had success there and they've had some improbable wins there before when they've been down

and out. We don't know who's going to be available, but we'll see. Well, appreciate you doing this to Nia little clips and double dip here on Clipper stop. My friend absolutely thanks. I hope that I hope that morale can get picked up on the fault lines because we need it. We got Morris and Long Beach coming up, so that will change everything.
