Parents mature once again. He's Clippers Talk. I got calls on Clippers Talk, immediate reaction and analysis to today's game. That's what he's capable of, hosted by your pre and post game voice of the LA Clippers, Adam Osler. I'm sure you, Bubba please, will be playing basketball in Pelican Bay
when I get finished with you. Yeah. The New Orleans Pelicans had the Clippers offense lopped up in Pelican Bay as they scored US eighty nine points and lose one thirteen to eighty nine in New Orleans to the Pelicans for the fifth straight time. Welcome into Clippers Talk. I'm Adam Oslins. Eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy. Eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number coming up, hoping to hear from the head coach
in the players after. Quite frankly, I don't like saying that, but it saves me from saying other things right now. A disappointing loss for the Clippers coming off their magical twenty five point comeback. They had one two in a row. They had some renewed spirit out there in that second half to be able to come back down twenty five was seven minutes left against a team with Nikola Yokich, just a third time all season any team had come back
down twenty five or more, fourth largest comeback in franchise history. You got the thirty one point come back in the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, the twenty eight point come back against Boston, the twenty seven point come back against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs back in twenty twelve,
and what happened Tuesday night. So we thought there was a chance that it would bleed into some better play offensively after they had a miserable first half Tuesday night, which is twenty eight points into them putting together a more complete game on offense. In New Orleans, it's been a house of horrors there. It's been an unbelievable one sided rivalry right now, if you want to call it that. And the Clippers only had thirty four points in the half
after having just twenty eight in the first half Tuesday night. Tonight, just thirty four, and they once again had nothing going for them offensively, and it pretty much ended up that way. Some of the stats are skewed. They got things going a little bit in the second half. They had it to within thirteen five minutes into the fourth quarter after being down by twenty four heading into the fourth quarter, but they were down nineteen points at the half,
and New Orleans pretty much kept them at Bay Pelican Bay. They did. They were good enough defensively, even though they are twenty fifth in that area on the season. This isn't the Denver Nuggets, who were middle of the pack defensively. This is a bottom ten defense, and the Clippers scored eighty nine points and had just thirty four in the first half. New Orleans also just twenty fourth offensively, yet they got up one hundred and thirteen points.
The biggest difference between this game and what we saw Tuesday night was the Clippers played forty eight minutes of defense against Denver. Denver only had forty one points at the half. In that game. The Clippers kept themselves alive gave themselves a chance to come back because they leaned on their defense. New Orleans had fifty three points at the half and a thirty four point third quarter.
The Clippers shot fifty five percent in the third quarter after being down by nineteen at the half, and they still lost the third quarter by five points. That's disappointing is the defensive side of the basketball. It's more so about effort than scheme or who's available. And we just saw them play forty eight minutes a brilliant basketball, really defensively Tuesday night, holding the Denver Nuggets to eighty five points a very good potent offense, and on the season, Clippers have
the fourth best defense. Otherwise the record would be a lot worse than twenty one and twenty two right now. But this is game forty three and we're still seeing this up and down play from this from this Clippers team. And I can accept some of it because of all the guys who have been out. That of course, is the biggest reason for this, the underlying reason.
And the Clippers are still seven and ten in games without both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George this season, and of those seventeen games without both of them, Nicholas Batuma's miss nine, Luke Nard is miss seven, Reggie Jackson has missed four, and Marcus Morris has missed two. They've had eighteen different starting lineups. Only team with more, I believe, is the Los Angeles Lakers, with twenty one, but they've had one of their big three available for
the most part this season. Clippers haven't had Kawhi Leonard all year, and now Paul George has been out for sustained period of time and we don't know when he could return. We don't know when Isaiah Hartenstein could be back. We don't know when Luke Kennard could be back. He's been in health and safety protocols for I wanted to say over twelve days now. We're hoping for the best with those guys, but to act like the calvaries on the way
and that can give them a shot in the arm. Just knowing guys are on the mend and they're coming back. We don't know that. We don't know if they're about to turn the corner and play more consistent basketball because they
have more consistent lineups out there. What's been consistent is the fact that the Clippers I've been a bottom five offense all year long, and I never would have aspected that even with this many injuries because of the way they played offensively last year where they also had injuries, not to this extent, but it led the league in three points shooting at forty one percent. They started this game in the first half two for eighteen and choked up just looking at that
box score where they were that bad from the outside. They were miserable Tuesday night from the outside. They've finished ten for thirty four there a little bit better, but on the year, they're shooting thirty six percent from three.
Now that is slightly above average. More physicality allowed out there in the NBA, more teams playing harder defensively because they're allowed to, and the new Wilson ball has I think created some fuzzy math with the percentages from the outside like we haven't seen a few years, but teams have been adjusting to it,
and the Clippers have as well. They were shooting I want to say they had a fifteen games stretch recently where they were shooting thirty eight thirty nine percent from three, which is a lot closer to what we saw all of last season. But it's such a big part of their game, the drive, kick swing, turning down good shots for great shots, and we just haven't
seen enough of that consistently all year. And yeah, would you have to rely on Reggie Jackson being more of a playmaker instead of playing off the ball I think that's affected him. He's had a rough week and a half. Outside of that fourth quarter he had that was brilliant against the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night. He's been shooting about thirty percent the last five games and he had another tough one two for eleven, one of six from the outside, just
five points. A Mere Coffee who has been a breath of fresh air. It's so many ways for this team, and it's not just about the scoring with him, but after having twenty one points and eighteen points in lead them in scoring wellieve it or not, the last two games, but that also tells you no one has scored more than twenty one points now the last three games. But a Mere Coffee had been really good the last couple of contests. He was just two of seven with this scoring. He's still had five
assists, he's still had a steal, he's still had six boards. But it's come to that point where they need more scoring from him, and that says something about the state of the team and just where they are offensively and where they are with bodies available to coach lou to try to get the scoring up. Putting up eighty nine points, it's just tough to look at after just having eighty seven against the Denver Nuggets, after having still just one oh
six when they took down the Hawks, that's not great. One oh eight before that against the Grizzlies, eighty nine before that against the Suns both losses and other loss were putting up just one oh four against the Timberwolves before that. So they've been consistent, unfortunately in a negative way offensively all season long. Thank goodness, the defense was there to rely upon, but it wasn't
there tonight in New Orleans, Clippers were down big early. Twenty eight to fifteen was the score after one, and I think New Orleans had it to being up nineteen in that first quarter. Clippers came out flat and I don't know if there was enough ball movement and Guy's attacking. They only had twenty eight points in the paint. Pelicans had fifty, and then New Orleans Pelicans. I don't know if this is a franchise low, but they only had
six turnovers leading to four points. That was something else that saved the Clippers Tuesday night when they were down twenty five to Denver. Denver had twenty turnovers in that game. That got the Clippers back into it those extra possessions, and they actually really took advantage of them. Tonight. The Clippers had fifteen turnovers in New Orleans, took advantage of that with twenty three points. Josh Hart getting behind the defense, and nobody's slowing down the basketball. That happened
a few different times. So yeah, not a great performance, say the least not great, Bob. Clippers lose one thirteen to eighty nine. Coming back, we'll get to your phone calls eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. I don't know what it is the last time they beat the Pelicans was a year ago to the day, January thirteenth of twenty twenty one. They've lost five straight to this team now, and I want to say they had zion for one of those games, maybe two. Brendan Ingram's a
baller. Of course, you just hit a game winner the other night from three. But for every reason, the Clippers have trouble in New Orleans and against the Pelicans in general. They lose by fourteen. They'll make it more than that. It was by twenty four season, down by as many as twenty eight. More. Clippers stock next here on a m five seventy orts back to more LA Clippers Basketball Act Defense the offense for the Clippers on the
official home of your Los Angeles Clippers. Stuck up in the spot making club. He fall in the sleep you want to fall with the old Peakstein the Creek Tchin Clippers only took one hour, but it steels like nothing cool about it. They lose in New Orleans and the Pelicans one thirteen to eighty nine, a team that has been eight thorn in their side. Clippers losing by
twenty four. We're down by as many as twenty eight, coming off a two game winning streak, big time victories against Atlanta against Denver, down twenty five. But we've seen this pattern. Clippers get a big win against the Nets on the road, they come back laying egg at home against the Timberwolves. They beat the Celtics before that in Boston, lost to the Raptors after
that. So couldn't get make it a three game winning streak. And yeah, you want to say the Pelicans are scheduled loss just because they have some juju, some some weird voodoo. They're used on the Clippers every time they play them. Just give them credit that they play well. And they are bad matchup for the Clippers without their wing help, as no Eagle pointed out
earlier, without guys like Kawai and Paul George Brandon ingram feasts. Jonas Valanciunas didn't have his thirty seven points but still hit a couple of three pointers, set the tone early and finished with eighteen and and I reading this right sixteen boards. Clippers were outrebounded fifty seven to forty six, thirteen to five on the offensive rebounds. In that category, the Clippers, they've struggled there all season long. It's it's more than a pattern, it's more than a trend.
We're more than halfway through this season. It's hard to just write off some of these things now and say, oh, it's an outlier, it's just one of those nights. Now. It's just a tough stretch with so many guys out, And they could use Isaiah Hartenstein a bad way and Luke Kennard and those two alone whenever they can come back, could be the difference the Clippers getting back above five hundred in the near future. But right now
they're twenty one and twenty two. Clippers lose one thirteen eighty nine in New Orleans. Welcome back into Clippers stock. I'm ata Moslin eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number, Javier and Lhabra Heights your first up tonight. What's up? Javier? Hey? What's up? Adam?
Adam had a question here if Paul George doesn't come back, because you know there's there's rumors out there today he's not coming back this year, and if that happens and then Kawhi doesn't come back, I would I would, you know, honestly, I would some of these veterans and just shoot for next year. I mean you could get something for you know, younger players, for Morris Bledso and Ibaka. I mean, that's gonna help us for next year. I mean it just we cannot. I mean with all those
two players, Paul George and Kauai, there's no way. Even though let's say we do make the playoffs, we're not gonna we're not gonna get out in the first round now with two you know, we need to two players. So I'm just thinking at the trade day line, we should be sellers. I mean, we just well just shoot for next year. I mean, let's see what happens. First, we don't know that that is the
case with Paul George. It was reported by far about Essen Shari. He said he spoke to multiple sources within the Clippers, and Paul George has not been reevaluated yet. I'm quoting him. While there is a chance he could potentially miss the season due to surgery, nothing can be determined until at least his next evaluation. So I think a lot of people are just trying to
be first instead of trying to be right. They're making educated guesses that, well, if it is the UCL and he has to have Tommy John, yeah he would be out for the season. But we don't know that to be the case the case yet. So I appreciate the phone call, Javier. We got somebody else online here. We'll screen your call in just a bit, but let's go to Morris in Long Beach. Morris, you're on
Clippers Talk. You know we need that positivity tonight. I want to say too, if the reason why the Clippers have a problem with the Pelicans and they've been fooling with their gumbo at them, if they let that gumbo alone, they'd be all right. And you know, we're halfway through the season. I'm gonna tell you something. The NFL has got the playoffs going now.
Nobody remembers the regular season, nobody. I want to give us a shout out to the NBA for weathering us through this these legal aerosol passages and giving us these games and some entertainment and whatnot to doing a pretty good job. You know, a lot of things aren't a successful with disappointing convinces. The Clippers are, okay, So but when now we getting into the second season, I'm gonna take what's gonna happen in this playoff because this is weird,
weird year. You remember that year when an eight be to one. I think Baron Davis was part of that. Yeah, so we believe Warriors team took down a sixty seven win Mavericks team back in the first round in two thousand and seven. Okay, I'm not saying that's what we're gonna do, but I am saying you're gonna see that. Because what's more important now, Believe it or not. We always say this every year and every sport health but it's really serious now. Because Phoenix can run into something, go
all of us can run into something. So we gotta take a look at you know, what things look like when we get to like April and June and stuff like that. So you know, the Clippers are doing good, a lot of good teams, a whole lot under five hundred. So we're gonna keep our heads up, hopefully good health. And your first caller that I was talking about trade, you know, he was right. You got to give him some props now if it looks like we're gonna lose our top
two. Nobody wants to be a general manager. I'd rather be a fan than a general manager. And that's the truth. You've got to be ruthless, daring. You're be a general manager. You're a general manager. You gotta get that some thought. Though. He's right. We could take those two guys you know who are hurt, they're not worth anything to us now and let somebody else bank on their promise of the future and we can get something right now for this year. So that's that's not just something we've got
to consider. We're gonna be fair about it. And thanks for this time, Adam. All right, Morris, I know, at some point, if it gets that dire with their two superstars both not being able to come back front office. They will leave no stone unturned. They've always had an eye on the future while still living in the present. And Lawrence Frank Executive of the Year for the twenty twenty season. He's brilliant. Jerry West,
Trying Rad and Mark Hughes, Michael Winger. There's no salary cap when it comes to the front office of the coaching staff, and Steve Ballmer has invested heavily in those areas and it's paid off in big ways. So I'm not concerned. I'm not worried about it. They'll make the right moves if that time comes. We're not there yet, and so I just I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves quite yet. Joshua in La, Joshua, what's up here on Clipper stock with autamas and how are you? I'm
doing what you I'm good, Joshua. Tough loss for the Clippers. What do you think of the ball game? Yeah, well, I'm a lifelong fan of Clippers. I'm sixteen years old as in La, and I'm just really wondering why we continue to us all the worst teams and we step up in those big moments in those big games and I'm wondering if that's a tendency we're starting to see here, if that's a good thing or a bad thing. And then my last question is, I'm not really sure about the specifics
of Kauai and when are we looking for him to come back? Joshua, thank you for the phone call. I don't think Kawhi knows when he could come back right now. It's about when his body is ready, when he's healthy enough. It's still early in the process. A lot of the projections say, at best, we're talking marsh after the All Star Game. That's what a lot of the people are speculating about. If the Clippers are in
contention. And there have been some reports out there about this Kawhi Leonard's way ahead of schedule, and we knew that he was doing box jumps explosive movements back in October November, and then Chris Haynes came out with a report a couple of weeks ago. And this is just about a week ago, but far about essent. Shari really had that first for SI now and the bleacher
report that Kawhi Leonard was ahead of schedule. But the main thing that you know, I really took from and that stood out to me was Kawhi Leonard at Media Day talking about how the reason why, or the reason would be for taking less money this last offseason when he could have waited gotten more, taken the Supermacs contract this upcoming summer was because he wanted to come back and play, and having that money secured would be the difference to testing your body
and going back out there earlier. So there are a lot of positive signs in that direction for Kauai, but we just don't know how his body's going to respond to the treatments, to the rehab, to the surgery. He had a serious injury partially torn acl With the injuries he's had before, and this is a long term investment for the Clippers with him and Paul George,
you don't want to rush anybody back in a situation like this. As for your point, Joshua was talking about the Clippers playing down to competition at times. It's felt like that this season. They have had some tough losses. It's not just the Pelicans, it's the Kings. It's Okay See as well, but they do seem to get up against the best opponents and that can be a bad habit, so can getting down big before you make your run. And you wonder forty three games in if they built too many of these
bad habits, and they're gonna be tough to break. But we've seen this Clippers team bounce back. We saw it after the losses of Grizzlies recently. They lost bad on a Saturday, came back on Sunday and beat a desperate Atlanta Hawks team, and then came back down twenty five against the Denver Nuggets. So they still won two or three. They have a chance to get one in San Antonio, who has taken a game from the Clippers so far
this season. And they're a team you can't underestimate, even without Tim Duncan and the hall of famers they used to have, because they still have a hall of fame coach in Greg Popovic. And they play hard, they play smart, they don't beat themselves. Clippers have a lot this year. Right, we'll take a quick time out, we'll come back. We'll hear from the head coach. But first let's pause ten seconds for station and entivocation.

eighth spot currently in the Western Conference. Welcome back into Clippers Talk. I'm adam oslind to eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy of the phone number. I just tweeted this out at follow autam Ay. But in the new year, I want to say, it's seven games so far, and Reggie Jackson is in a deep
shooting funk. He is thirty one for ninety five, that is thirty two percent from the field outside of that fourth quarter he had and it was heroic for the Clippers to come back down twenty five Tuesday night. He just hasn't found any rhythm with his shot, Clippers overall and shooting funk. It's not just him. Marcus Morris recently has had a rough time from the outside. I just saw this from if it was and your grive. But remember Marcus
came back from health and safety protocols. He was on a tear. In fact, he had scored twenty or more and ten of thirteen games his last thirteen until the last three games, it was my player to watch because I was thinking, Okay, he hasn't gone three games without being in at twenty
or more in such a long time. He was due. But after making forty one point six percent of his threes in his first six games since returning from protocols, his last three games from three Marcus Morris three of seventeen.
So sometimes you know baseball hitting is contagious, slumping is as well, and I think it's happening with the Clippers because if one guy isn't making shots and he's your number one option, you could say he or Reggie Jackson, the defense can load up on them and make life even tougher, or they can play off of him, and so there aren't guys that are open that there's an extra man available to you because somebody's getting double teamed. And that's been
a problem I think a lot so far those Clippers. When you have somebody with the gravity of Kawhi Leonard or Paul George out there on the court, it makes life easier for everyone else. When those guys are gone, everyone else is getting less open. Looks all right. Let's hear from the head coach post game Toronto, lou after the Clippers losing by twenty four in New Orleans to the Pelicans. Here he was speaking to the media. I don't know, I wish I had to answer. You know, they they played
good. They know who they go to, who they go to. Guys are like I said, they played the right way. They played fast, with paced. If you turned the basketball, if they really capitalize in transition, and I think, you know, Hard does a good job of pushing that ball and creating havoc, especially in transition. So you know, we're not scoring to basketball you shoot, you know, thirty eight percent and twenty nine from three. You know, you're always gonna be in transition defense,
so they's gonna take advantage of that. Outside of that, just defensively, you know, I thought we try to do a little everything, just nothing work tonight. You know, on defense, we try to switch, we try to blitz, try to zone, and they just kind of had it going. So we didn't have a lot of pop, especially when I was starting unit, you know, three, four, eleven, fifteen, so you know, I'll started un to go three for twenty one from three. You know, started the game, it's gonna be tough to win. And
I just didn't have a lot of jews tonight. Why do you think that is? Uh? I mean, this is a standard rest game and for the rest of the month, you don't have really anything better than this. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, you have that has those guys, but it just looks they looked slow, looked pretty old tonight, and she didn't have a lot of pop, you know, and so that that happens, you know, we, like I said, we tried everything I thought. Our young guys came in and played well and kind of cut the
lead and gave us opportunity to get back in the game. But you know, when our starters from start to finish, they went to the advantage of us. It looked like the stints in the second half is for our rotations and lineups, they were rather extended, like get the first unit a long run in the third quarter and then the fourth quarter that units they got the lead down at thirteam, but they kind of stayed out there, and yeah, I mean, you know, when you're down by that many points,
you know what you don't want to give behind. Just trying to see if that person they can get us back in the game. And if it's still a twenty point game, you know, when everybody to come out, you know, it's hard to get him back in. So we were just trying to see if we can you know, cut into that lead at all. And like I said, we had a couple opportunities, but we didn't make a few shots and the game kind of got away from us. Jay got to play in the first half the first time in all season. Wools the
fools to play and just giving him a shot there. And what did you see from you today? Oh, because you know with a mirror he was on a minute restrictions, so we couldn't run him into the ground. They're playing forty three minutes out of the night, and so Jay was gonna get opportunity to play. You know, I thought he came in, did some good things and to like have some real, you know, NBA minutes in
a meaningful game. You know, I probably did a good job. So you it wasn't really fair because it's only his first game, his chance if you get his feet with but I thought it took advantage opportunity. And there was Coach lu post game after the Clippers losed by twenty four in New Orleans and the Pelicans. I love the fact that the Clippers being down by as many as nineteen in the first quarter alone, Coach Lu said enough is enough. He took out the starters, he put in the young guys, he
put in the backups. He went deep into his bench. He was trying every possible combination for the Clippers to find some of that pop, some of that juice. Some of that energy, a spark, anything to get them back into it. Jason Scrubb was one of those guys. Unfortunately though New Orleans, and we heard this Tuesday night where the Clippers guys were asked post game, if you could see it in the eyes of the opposition when you're coming back on them, if they'd know it, because the Clippers have this
reputation of coming back and you can break teams spirit their will. They're confidence well, while the Clippers were driving, have all the confidence in the world in situations like that. But he can work the other way too. A team that had won four straight against the Clippers and the New Orleans Pelicans, Yeah, they probably felt pretty good coming into this ball game. They can't
lose against the Clippers. The pattern, this trend. Clippers just gotta put their foot down and stop it. I don't know what it is about New Orleans, but I think that was the first question to coach Lou Possibly everyone's kind of scratching their head and wondering why they can't beat this team.
