The game is over, Paul George money in the pain, but the postgame reaction has just begun. Gohi Leonard is so smooth in the mid range. This is Clippers locker Room, a recap of today's game and a look ahead on your hope for LA Clippers basketball at now your host, You, sir, are a bad man, Adam Ousley. Clippers lose this time in Memphis by a final score of one oh eight to ninety four. Welcome into your post game show. Coming up your final box score. You'll hear from the
head coach in the players as well. But first back out to FedEx form with Noah Eagle. Noah, it felt like the end of that first quarter, there was a huge momentum shift and that's where the game changed. How did you see it playing and simple? This game was lost in the final fifty four seconds of the first quarter. And it's why we talk about finishing
quarters strong. It's why we've talked about it, and we've been very up front of how paramount that is, how imperative it is for the Clippers to find a way through whatever end of quarter wos they've dealt with all season. It's because of games like this. You look at this game and you say, Okay, if the Clippers just continue to keep their foot on the gas at the end of that first quarter, they're off twenty plus going into the
second. That's a lot different than being up thirteen going into the second. And that's where this game completely turned. Memphis takes control in the second quarter. They outscore the Clippers thirty four seventeen. They lead by four at half, and then without Kawhi Leonard and Eric Gore and the rest of the way, it's just the Clippers didn't have the firepower they were expecting to have and the firepower that guided them in the first half. You know, Eric Gordon
was a plus seven, Kawhi Leonard was a plus twelve. Those were the guys that were making an impact. They combined for twenty five points, and neither of them played more than eighteen minutes in this game. Neither of them even reached eighteen minutes in this game. So I just look at it and I say, Okay, if the Clippers had finished that first quarter a lot
stronger than they did, what if? And I think that's what you're going to look at this game and say, because it clearly could have gone very differently even without those guys in the second half, if they just taken their taking care of their business in the final fifty four seconds of the opening frame. So tough one, tough one to swallow up. For sure, It's
not the end of the world because the Clippers aren't chasing the Grizzlies. There was no real feel that they could catch them for that second seed or anything like that. But it hurts in the sense that the Clippers are trying to stockpile every possible win that they can and a win like this would have done wonders just to help solidify them inside the playoffs and outside of the play in
tournament. That's a big deal. We know last year the Clippers were eighth in the West and they didn't qualify for the playoffs because they didn't get through the play in. You know, this is a Memphis team that knows all about the play in just from two years ago. It allowed them to get into the playoffs. So it can be a good thing, it can be
a really rough thing. But for the Clippers, they're trying to get into that top six, not only secure a playoff berth, but also secure a week off heading into the playoffs, which is necessary for this team as they try to get guys like Paul George and now it looks like Eric Gordon healthy. But I just look at this. It's okay. It's a tough loss,
no doubt, but Tomorrow's a huge game. Tomorrow's a game that if you chose between the two coming into the day, obviously you want to have both, but if you had to choose between the two, the New Orleans game is the one that matters a little bit more because New Orleans is trying to chase the Clippers. They're gaining steam on LA, a team that the Clippers have already lost twice two this year. That's the game that, if you could choose, the Clippers need to find a way to pull it out.
And so we'll see what they can come up with tomorrow. On the second out of the back to back. We saw it with some of the starters today didn't play the minutes that we would normally expect. Of course, Kawhi Leonard only plays eighteen, but tomb twenty three, Westbrook twenty six, Zubus twenty five, Terrence Man only played nineteen minutes in this game, Adam, and they're gonna need him in all his glory tomorrow. Mason Plumley only
played thirteen minutes, Roco only played seventeen bones, Thailand played twenty. Those guys are gonna be ready to go, and they're gonna be potentially more in rhythm tomorrow. They've got to find a way to make an impact in the big, easy, huge game. I'll play in to stay out of the play in, or I'll play out that they can't find themselves in that play. And once again, this Clippers team in tomorrow's game, it's gonna have
huge playoff ramifications. Tip time for that one in New Orleans is at five thirties. We'll have Clippers count down your pregame show starting at four thirty. Noah Eagle, we'll talk to you tomorrow. Great call is always my friend, Adam. I gotta wait what twenty four not even twenty get away twenty hours, twenty two hours for you. That's coming up next. We guys, your final box score. Clippers losing Memphis one oh eight to ninety four,
and you're listening to the Los Angeles Clippers Radio Network. Clippers lose one oh eight to ninety four in Memphis to the Grizzlies. They split the two game mini series. Welcome back in this is your postgame show. I'm atam Moslin coming up on the Patriot AM eleven fifty and just a bit, we'll have Clippers talk. Eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty eight seven seven
five two zero eleven fifty is the phone number. Clippers end up shooting under forty percent from the field, at just thirty eight percent from the floor eleven of thirty five from distance. That is thirty one percent from three after they had shot fifty one percent from three over their last four ball games. They did compete on the boards, lost the rebounding battle by just two, lost the offensive rebounding battle by just one. But this was a game where the
Clippers were up by twenty in the first half. It was thirty four to fourteen in the first quarter, and they let go of the momentum they were carrying heading out of the first into the second quarter, where there was a seven oh run in the final fifty four seconds I think it was to end the first quarter by the Memphis Grizzlies. They would turn that into an eighteen to two run. That was the difference of the ball game. Clippers got down by four at the half and fifty five fifty one I believe, and
then no Kawhi Leonard to start the second half. No Eric Gordon to start the second half. Clippers got blitzed in third quarter, lost it by ten. They were even in the fourth quarter, but doesn't matter. They end up losing one O eight to ninety four in Memphis to the Grizzlies. Coming
up big game tomorrow in New Orleans. Huge Ball Games standings Wise will update you on that coming up next, as Memphis has beat the Clippers eight of the last nine times, including that play in game last season, that would keep the Clippers out of the playoffs. Huge ball game more Clippers post game next right here on the Los Angeles Clippers Radio Network. Clippers lose one O eight to ninety four in Memphis to the Grizzlies in a game where they led
by twenty in the first quarter. No Kawhi Leonard in the second half. All reports say that he wants to play tomorrow, so playing on a back to back, although he played just eighteen minutes and didn't play in the second half of this one. Clippers down by four heading into that third quarter. They would end up losing by sixteen. Clippers in New Orleans tomorrow. This is a game with playoff and seeding implications. New Orleans right now is a
game and a half back of the Clippers. Clippers still currently in that five spot. Golden State is playing the San Antonio Spurs. They're behind the Clippers by half a game right now. The Clippers do have the tiebreaker over them currently because of their division record, but if Golden States should go on to win later tonight, they'll have an identical record to the Clippers. Clippers again have that tiebreaker, but they don't have it against the New Orleans Pelicans,
who are a game and a half back. New Orleans is won six of seven, including a win over the Clippers just about a week ago, and they've won eight of the last nine contests as the Clippers. So monumental, pivotal matchup tomorrow from New Orleans. They tip off at five thirty. We have your pregame show right back here at four thirty outside of Los Angeles.
We are leaving you until then. Coming up on the Patriot AM eleven fifty, we'll have Clippers Talk eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty outside of LA. Well, the three point party was over this time in Memphis, as the Clippers shot just eleven
of thirty five from distance. They lose one oho eight to ninety four to the Grizzlies in a ballgame they led by as many as twenty in early in the first quarter. Welcome in to Clippers Talk. I'm at a Moslin to eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty is the phone number if you'd like to get on. Coming up on the show, we'll hear from the head coach and hopefully some of the players,
plus Charles Mockler from Clips and Dip will join us here. Tail a two quarters, tail a two halves, however you want to slice it. The Memphis Grizzlies started this game off looking like a mess in that first quarter. I want to say they had seven turnovers in the first twelve minutes of the ball game. Let me check that here, But it was the Clippers
who then gave up a seven old run to end the first quarter. After yes, Memphis had eight turnovers, make it in the first quarter to just three by the Clippers, But there were warning signs to end the quarter. Were after leading thirty four to fourteen with I want to say, just about a minute left. It was thirty four to fourteen with a minute fourteen left after Mason Plumley knocked down his second free throw, and then Memphis went on
a seven oh run to end the quarter. So the Clippers go from leading by twenty to just thirteen, answering the second at a score of thirty four to twenty one, and Memphis kept it rolling. I believe it turned into an eighteen to two run where the Clippers went a six minute stretch where they scored just four points. The backups didn't look the way they did on Wednesday
night, to say the least. Russell Westbrook didn't look the same. We didn't expect him to go five for five from the outside, but he finished with just four points on two of eight shooting oh three from three, and the momentum swung back in favor of the Memphis Grizzlies where they are raised a twenty point deficit in the span of five on court minutes, and a lot of that was then the Clippers turned the basketball over in the second quarter after
having just three. They would have seven turnovers in the second quarter after just three in the first. Give him Memphis extra possessions. And when you can't set your defense, well, they're gonna have problems on that end. And
when you can't set it, it usually means you're not scoring. And that's what the Clippers weren't able to do early on in the second where they ended up getting out scored thirty four to seventeen in those twelve minutes before the half, they found themselves down for at the half it was fifty five to fifty one, and then to start the third quarter, there was no Kawhi Leonard.
There was no Eric Gordon. Sounds like Kawhi after playing eighteen minutes in the first half, well, he wants to play tomorrow, and so they're saving him for the second game of this back to back to hopefully play his usual minutes around thirty six. But none of us were aware of what was going on. Obviously, the Clippers started Terrence Man and Norman Powell. I believe it was it was Russ Norm Terrence, Nicholas Batoum and Visa Zubots to
start that third quarter. Haven't got word on Eric Gordon if he was also being little managed because they're on a back to back, and if he'll be playing tomorrow in that game against the New Orleans Pelicans, or if he suffered an injury. Looking for information there, but that definitely seems to be the case with Kawhi Leonard. The last time he played a back to back was April eighth and ninth of twenty twenty one. Obviously, coming off the ACL
this season, they were going to take it slow. It's been a process. His goal was always to get back to playing back to backs. There's one more at the very end of the season against Portland and then against Phoenix. This is the second to last back to back, and tomorrow is a huge ball game against the Pelicans, who have had the Clippers number to say the least. They beat them eight of the last nine times. They just beat him a week ago last Saturday in downtown Los Angeles. They beat them
to keep them out of the playoffs last year. And they are currently a game and a half back of the Clippers, and they have the tiebreaker. Clippers right now on the five spot in the West with four games to go, they're a half game up on Golden State as they're currently taking on the San Antonio Spurs. They're in the sixth seed. Clippers do have the tiebreaker
over them. The only two teams within striking distance that they have the tiebreaker over currently in Golden State because of division record and the Lakers because they won the first three games of that divisional series and have one more to go next Wednesday at Crypto dot Com Arena. Where else would it be. But that's
going to be a big game tomorrow though it starts there. Clippers have to find a way to slay the dragon, to beat a team that has been able to get the best of them time and time again in the New Orleans Pelicans and Brandon Ingram, who just had an outstanding performance last night in Denver. He's been on one. Hopefully Leonard will be on him. Last time
out. It was Marcus Morris starting against him last Saturday. Obviously, Muke he's out in health and safety protocols right now and is out of the starting lineup as Nicholas Batoum is the starter now at the four. Didn't have a great game oh three from the outside, and after going sixteen of twenty two and three games the last two games, he's really struggled, just one for
eight from three after that. Heater or of shooting over seventy percent over a three game stretch sixteen of twenty two from distance, but he only hit one last time out, when the Clippers shot sixty percent from three Wednesday night against this Memphis Grizzlies team without Kawhi Leonard the entire way, they had unbelievable shooting performances from Russell Westbrook on five to five from Robert Covington going seven for seven.
Those two combined to go oh of four from three tonight. I knew there'd be a regression to the mean I told you coming into this one in the pregame show. You can't expect that to happen again. They have to find other ways to win. In early on up twenty, it looked like they were the scrappier team, getting to loose balls, taking care of the basketball, getting boards of Visa Zubots had nine and four. I want to say in the first quarter it was dominant. He finished fifteen and fifteen.
Good game for him, my player to watch. Had five offensive rebounds, but didn't get much help. And the Clippers were missing open shots, missing some good looks shots at the rim. And when two of your best replayers in the first half don't play in the second half, I'm talking about Kawhi and Eric Gordon. Kawhi finished four of nine with twelve points. Eric Gordon finished with thirteen points on five of ten shooting, hit a couple of deep
three pointers in the first half. They don't go in the second half. I don't know if that was a culture shock for the rest of the guys, because they came out really flat to start the third, got down double digits quickly, easy for me to say, battled back. But then heading into the fourth, he could tell the momentum was all in favor of the Memphis Grizzlies by that point, and even though some of the backups gave it a ride at the end, gave a great effort when it looked like the
game was over Clippers at one point, we're down twenty two. That's a forty two point turnaround after being up twenty to then being down twenty two. Some of the backups, like Musa Diabate, moon Mere Coffee, they played well. Rocco I think was still out there, but they couldn't get it quite to within striking distance. But send a little bit of fear into the
Memphis Grizzlies. They put some of their starters back in, including job Morand, who didn't have a good ball game again four of eleven, ten points. I know he had thirty plus against the Clippers on Wednesday, but he had eight turnovers. The guys who killed the Clippers though, Desmond Baine, who didn't play on Wednesday, he had twenty two. Jaren Jackson Junior, he didn't have a great game nine and eight off the bench, though a
former Clipper in Lukenard seventeen points, five made three pointers. Four of those came when Memphis was making their run end of the first into the second quarter, so he did some really good things for them, and the Clippers end up letting go of the rope, give up a twenty point lead, and then don't have Kawhi Leonard and Eric Gordon to start the second half, and they end up losing by sixteen in Memphis. They get the split. They
had to get one of them. They did. They got the one Wednesday night in a valiant effort without Kawhi, without Paul George Norman poet was his first game back. In that one, he ended up finishing with sixteen. Looked better, didn't have a turnover after having four Wednesday, six of eleven, shooting two of two from three. Struggled. They'll still miss them easy ones that he normally makes. Clippers just didn't have enough and they're gonna have
to figure it out tomorrow against the Pelicans are waiting for him. They're not on our back to back. The Clippers are at the rest disadvantage as a team. They just haven't been able to figure out and crack the code of but I'm hoping with Kawhi Leonard maybe extra motivated after they lose this one, and he only plays the first half. And look, it typically comes down to the medical staff making these calls on how much a player can play, and this was unusual, no doubt, to play in the first half and
then shut them down on the second half. I don't know if I've ever seen that before, but I guess better to have him some than not at all. That was probably the logic there, and he did help them get up by twenty backup though got blitzed and they went with some four guard lineups, two different ones in the second quarter. That we're minus thirteen four guards out there with Mason Plumley and they just got annihilated by the Memphis Grizzlies.
So Clippers got work to do, no doubt. But I's know what Eagle likes to say best far about the NBA, You lose one typically have at most a day or two to respond. Clippers don't even have that. They have a chance for redemption though tomorrow it's coming that soon, less than twenty four hours away. Now let's start things off with Javier and Lahabra Heights. Javier, you're on Clippers talk here on the Patriot am eleven fifty without of
Moslin. What's up Javier? What's up at him? Sorry if loose reception, I'm here walking here in lab Heights, So on my loser reception by breeze real quick, stay still, real quick. I'm puzzled. I I don't understand how you play Kauai. I mean, what did the Clippers think that they're gonna be up by fifty? Said, hey, Kawhi play We'll be up by fifty a half and then we're good and we'll get you from next game. I mean they should just not play them Adam at all,
just not playing him and game ready for tomorrow. I mean the game tomorrow. That's the most important game of the whole season. Like you said, he should have just rested him and said, you know what, which is gonna stand for the next game and that's it. But no, they play him, Like what do I mean? What do you think? I mean, Oh, we're gonna be up by fifty and we'll set him in the half and we'll win the game. Well, to be fair, they were up by twenty in the first quarter. With him, they were up by
twenty. I just he was a plus twelve in his eighteen minutes, so he obviously helped. Yeah, he helped. Look, I understand the logic though, ho year of you know what message doesn't say so the rest of the guys. Now, we got to finish the game without him, and I don't know, I'm still looking. We got coached post game, all y'all coming up. I know he was asked about it. We'll see. You know how much of this was according to plan or they were just kind
of going off a feel. I don't know, but hey, they did get up by twenty, and Kauai wasn't the reason they started to give up that lead. The backups came in. They didn't have it tonight. Yeah, but like you said earlier, it's it's it's it's a mental You go in the second half like, where's Kawhi. Oh he's not playing. It's
just it's just a whole different approach for the players. But well, it's not like we haven't seen starters get pulled to start a second half or early in a third quarter before by coach Low when they just weren't playing well, we have seen that before. Yeah, we have, we have. I just another thing too, Adam, I've noticed we're up. You said twenty, right up by twenty and then minute. This coaching staff they take some adjustments in the second quarter. Boom, you've go on to run. I
don't think it was so much making adjustment, Adam. He didn't make no adjustments whatsoever. He had a four man rotases, he had four guards. Yeah, I'm from I mean you could have had. The problem is how quickly they got ambush there. Those four guard lineups were minus thirteen and three minutes. They pretty much had no time to adjust back. It was over, the damage was done. Yeah, it was a rough, rough stretch.
They gave up that lead far too quickly. Yeah, lasting, Adam, Tomorrow's game that this is honestly, like you said, this is a must game. Little win tomorrow. Oh my god, take out a win tomorrow. That's all I gotta say, Adam, thank you for taking them they do. I'm with you, Abier. I appreciate the phone call. Eight seven seven, five, two zero even fifty will take a quick time out here. Clippers give up a twenty point lead in the first quarter.
They lose one O eight to ninety four in Memphis to the Grizzlies. They're in New Orleans tomorrow against the Pelicans, who have the tiebreaker over them. Clippers game and a half up on them, but they have not been able to figure this team out for years. We don't believe it's Ian Williamson's playing, he's been out, but Brandon Ingram has been on a tear and they
just beat the Clippers. Our crypto a week ago. More Clippers stock next here on the Patriot EM eleven fifty brand new sports I always is a guitar, or is a sports car and my MASERRADI sports car got noms. Been through all that kill Look back, Clippers lose in Memphis? Is that why we got Billy ray On one oho eight to ninety four to the grizz And after being up twenty at thirty four to fourteen in the first quarter, they
were outscored ninety four to sixty the rest of the way. After they started the game four of eight from deep, they went seven for their next twenty seven from distance, and that was all after they took that twenty point lead. Welcome back in This is Clippers talk here on the Patriot am eleven fifty. Look, I see the logic both ways when it comes to not playing Kawhi Leonard in the second half of this one. On one hand, you say, we take as much Kawhi as we can get. Any Kauai is
better than none out there. But then the argument is, well, how the rest of the team going to adjust to that when they know Kawai was playing that well and they had a twenty point lead, and all of a sudden they're down by four going into the second half, and now they're not
going to have them because they did look flat. On the other hand, how much responsibility is on them the rest of the guys if that was the plan going in and we'll hear from coach lou in just a little bit, you gotta be prepared for it. But I get it, Clipper Nation, you're frustrated after this one. People are calling it mid game load management. Kawhi Leonard though expected to go tomorrow against the Pelicans. That's the most important
thing. Let's go to Arthur and la Arthur. What's up here on Clipper stock without I'm Awston not too much at him. I wouldn't I didn't have good vibes coming into this game. Based on what I heard from Coach Lou and the pre games who still pass along annoy Eagle, you could tell them that Tie is not quite a You're not quite a young man anymore. He's a few years younger than me. I'm I'm almost fifty years old, and I've been a Clipper fan since they weren't San Diego when they had twin later.
And I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol that comes with age. I don't. I don't have the same body I had in my twenties. You could and with Tyler about the civil rights well he could. He should have learned about that when he was in college, and he was in college and Nebraska in the late nineties after when I was. It's not that he didn't learn about it. I think he was talking about how he experienced and
how things were different. Just being there. It's a different experience. And in all the people who told me about it as a kid are now gone, so we shouldn't know. In the first half of our lives, we didn't have Google, we didn't have YouTube, we didn't have Wikipedia, and we didn't have that in the early in the mid eighties, so it's not like we we grew up with silver with silver spoons in our mouth. As
far as technology and information goals, information wasn't like. I don't think the civil rights movement in any way was new to code flu It was just the location they were at going through the tour, it hit a little bit different being able to experience and stand in some of the places the iconstant Yeah,
both my parents would deceased and they lived through that. They were they were adults back then, So yeah, doesn't can pass along about the noa eagle to kill coach lou But again again, first the game goes, No, I didn't have good vibes about it anyway, And and what's the prognosis on
Eric Gordon? Is he gonna play tomorrow? And idhood, I don't know what we're looking for an update on that, Arthur, but we're gonna hear from coach lew And just a little bit now, you said you didn't have good vibes going into the game, what about when the Clippers were up twenty in the first quarter, But no, I knew they were gonna lose and lose that league because they on the road to That's another thing that you don't
know. I've been probably mentioned they when you on the road, you have to you know that, he say, run through to tap even as it is the first quarter. Well, Arthur, I appreciate the phone call. Look I mentioned it on Twitter. I said when the Clippers are up twenty, I said it, Grizzlies are gonna make a run. The Clippers have to continue to play this level of defense. Though shots come and go.
Your defensive effort has to be solid, has to be consistent, and you got to stay locked in on that end because coming out the defensive mindset was there. They look great. Let's say they had five steals on the first quarter. That can't be right though, because they only ended up with five. This was a game though they had a command of But at twenty point
lead in the NBA doesn't mean what it used to. If anybody knows that, it's Clippers fans because of how many comebacks they have had over the years. Now down by twenty, let's hear from coach lu though post game. But before we get to that, let's pause ten seconds. First station identification here on the Patriot AM eleven fifty. This this LA Clippers basketball AM eleven fifty KiB Los Angeles, an iHeart radio station. Clippers were up by twenty.
They end up losing one O eight to ninety four in Memphis to the
Grizzlies. And here was coach was speaking with the reporters post gap. I thought, our turnovers, you know, in that second quarter, and then you know, also you know, not being able to get stops defensively, like they were able to score easy and will and a lot of them op our mistakes just turned the basketball over, inbound the ball, rebound the ball turning over, They getting lay ups and dunks, and so we didn't do a good job with that and handling that, and so they was able to
get back in the game. But you know, we still had a great opportunity, Like we was only down for at halftime, and they're a good team and a number two team in the West for no reason, and so we had to keep up compulsion, continue to keep playing. And so we do. It's gonna make a run. We know it's gonna be that fast.
But you know, we put ourselves in a good position. We just didn't do a good job just finishing the game, you know, taking care of the basketball, taking good shots and then getting stops on our other end in the second and third quarter. There was was it something they were doing that you just wanted making shots you normally make. I gotta go back and watch it. But I think I thought a few times over penetrated, didn't make the right pass. I thought our turnovers really hurt us. And then
we didn't make some shots as well. So those three things together a bad combination. When we got us for three three pointers night game, just losing traffic game. I gotta go back and watch it, you know, but I think some of us, I've seen a few of those game playing mistakes. You know, we didn't do a good job staying attached. We didn't do a good job on the stack when he slipped out, we didn't communicate that he got an open three, and so you know, those things we
gotta clean up and get better with. And so you know, a lot of a lot of focuses, you know, own job, which I thought we did a good job with him trying to slow him down, but then everybody else got going, kind of had some big games. So you know, big game for us tomorrow. We gotta be ready to go three on. I don't often you been in a game, we'd be allowed twenty seven percent of shooting up with three and then the moon. But I don't look pro digits. I don't know. I mean, was that all to you
now? I mean, you know, the biggest thing for us, Like I said, we didn't score the ball like we're capable of doing, like we did in that first quarter, and that, you know, that hurt us. You know, this team's going on scoring one hundred and eight points at home. You could you could live with that, you know. So
we didn't do a good job scoring the basketball. I thought we had a great first quarter, and then after that we got a little stag that then we turned the basketball over and then we didn't just continue to keep getting to our next actions like we did in that first quarter. The team man russ it last thirteen about three minutes. Did you see what, folks, as you see? I thought pace. I thought scoring on the floor, and
that's you know, that's where we would looked at. And so we didn't do a good job of taking advantage of apple lots in with that unit, especially scoring on basketball, and then it was hard for us to get stops as well, and that's what allowed them to get back in the game. Do you feel like the team should think like more Jared's than the middle there and really influence might gets to see like there was a lot of those extra passes that didn't details made many shots, a lot of tough of any quality
shots. Yeah, I mean some shots we passed up, like you said, And then we talked about their heavy nail teams. So the floor pass is gonna be wild upen to drive it, and when Jared comes across the help, we gotta be ready to make the right pass and right play. And uh, we know they sell out, you know, taking away that corner pass on the excess and so the the the high quadrant is gonna be
open. And we just didn't do a good job, like you said, of reading the game and reading the defense like we needed to, and like I said, when we attacked the paint, you know, we're a totally different team. But making the right play as well, which I don't think we did a good job all tonight. Oh well, what do you feel like the second quarter? What you feel like all the team do all to execute all the defensive league. I thought we did a good job with job.
I thought we really did a good job with just trying to slow him down, and he's a hit of the snake, you know, And so I thought we did a good job with him with that band and Luke get Get going a little too easily. But you know, if I can take anything away from the game, I would say, you know, just doing a good job, one job, because he's killed us in the past.
There was Coach Lupo's game Clippers losing Memphis, and he's right, you know, this game was lost by them not hitting shots and going through scoring droughts. You hold Memphis to one oh eight, you should win that game. But the Clippers only scored ninety four. They shot thirty eight percent from the field, thirty one percent from three, just attempted eighteen free throws. Memphis wasn't great scoring wise. It was what the Clippers weren't doing by just playing
in mudd at times and not making the right basketball play. As coach lew was talking about there, and as far as the four man lineup, the rationale was having Bones, Norman and Russ in that lineup for pace and scoring. Obviously, they were not successful in those three minutes that they had out there in the second quarter, and they got blitzed because you know, defensively
they're gonna give up some points. The hope is though, that they're able to do damage and outscore the opposition on the other end, and they had a really bad stint. Clippers lose after being up by twenty one o eight to ninety four to the Grizzlies. Huge one coming up tomorrow in New Orleans against the Pelicans, who were just a game and a half back of the Clippers and have the tiebreaker over them, and they have brandon ingram b I
coming up next. We'll get back to your phone calls eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty. Well, Charles Mockler on from Clips and Dip right here on the Patriot AM eleven fifty. This is Clippers talk. That's time that my neck. It was us anniversary of his death. Clippers fall in Memphis one oh eight to ninety four
to the Grizzlies in game two of this two game mini series. Clippers on the back to back, they'll beat in New Orleans, taken on the Pelicans tomorrow. Got an update for you on Eric Gordon, who coach lew was asked about post games, said he didn't know his status, but he left the game or didn't play in the second half because of right hip soreness.
Kawhi didn't play because apparently a minute's restriction. And I just saw this from Andrew Greiffe of the LA Times. Norm Powell and Russell Westbrooks said they weren't aware Kawhi would play only the first half, so it wasn't something they could prepare for. Russ said, I don't know if anybody knew, but that was something that Kawhi and the medical staff figured out. But no, I
didn't know. In the audio that we had post game from coach lew we didn't hear a question regarding Kauai, I believe regarding the situation with him just playing the first half eighteen minutes and not playing in the second half because he wants to play on this back to back because the Clippers again are in New Orleans in a huge ball game tomorrow against the Pelicans. All right, let's get to Chuck Mockler from Clips and Dipped does the podcast with myself and Will
Updyke. Chuck, how did you feel about Kawhi playing the first half and not the second half? In this one. I know a lot of Clipper Nation is left scratching their heads about this move. I mean, as we all should be. This was more I mean, it was a very weird thing to happen in a very weird season for the Clippers, and it happened to happen in you know, there's five games left, so scratching their head. I really, I'm kind of speechless about it, to be honest.
It was I mean, your quote set of all the guys that melis was going to happen. Tyler seemed a little frustrated in the postgame presser. I think a lot of us feel for that, because I don't know, it was kind of clear this wasn't the plan from the start, because why would you play the first half just so you could set out the second and play again tomorrow. It just doesn't It didn't really add up from the beginning, and I don't know if it ever will, but it's I think it's a
kind of microcosm of the season for the Clippers. Apparently, Tylu said he does expect Kawai to be able to play his full workload tomorrow, so I guess he was pressed on it. But yeah, it's it's tough to understand this one. Look, I think you'd say better to have Kawhi Leonard play some than not at all, because they were up twenty with him. He was a plus twelve out there. He wasn't the reason that they gave up that lead in the second quarter, and it wasn't like they were up twenty
at the half. And then he doesn't play in the second half and they got ambush like that. He didn't play early on the second quarter, and that's where things swung back in favor of the Memphis Grizzlies. When did you see this game turn though? I mean it was a three guard lineup, but real quick, I know he was good in the first half, which is great, But the taking him out thing, it's just tough because it
was so sudden. So I think that leads some Clippers fans minds to worry a little bit, which I think might be just fair, given again the oddity of just having him play the first half. But where I think everything kind of went wrong was a three guard lineup, which makes sense. I was trying to pivot from probably a game plan that he made a whole game for, So I think it was a three guard lineup. The turnovers were brutal as well. It was just the tone was nice for the first you
know, first quarter it was great. We had a good defensive intensity. But then it just slipped away. But to him, didn't have his best game. I don't know, man, it kind of fell apart in all the usual ways. Yeah, the Clippers had just three turnovers in that first quarter. They end up with eighteen, so they had fifteen the rest of the way. They had five of those in the second I want to say
six more of them in the third quarter. Offensively, you know, they weren't good enough on that end, because Memphis still only scored one oh eight. It gets the Clippers offense that let them down. They're three points shooting. They've been so red hot. Okay, you expect some regression to the mean, but they started off this game well from the outside, and then things just crater for them and they end up shooting thirty seven thirty eight percent
from the field. The ball movement didn't look the same, even though they did have twenty six assists. I don't know if coach Slew said there was a nasty flow to the ball game. We've heard that used to describe the Clippers offense a few different times over the last week. But you know, it just didn't look like the same team, especially Russell Westbrook and Robert Covington and Nook. They weren't going to go twelve or twelve from the outside.
We knew that going in. They just had really poor offensive outings compared to what we saw Wednesday night. Though. Yeah, and it makes sense a little but though right we were going against a more fuller Memphis Chrisley squad. You know, you look at that first quarter. John Rant scored what not very many points. He didn't really finish this one on anything, you know, super incredible stat line lines. But I mean, when you have this
many jumpers and you have a cold night, this is what happens. Like the process to get these jumpers is good, but when it when the shots aren't falling, I think it looks a lot worse. So, like you said, ball movement in the first quarter was great, And yeah, it's just you need I mean, we need with Paul George out, we need someone, you know, we need two or three guys to kind of make one Paul George and then another guy to step up. And it just didn't
happen tonight. Terrence Man also add an off night. He was one for seven. Bones Highland, who has been so good over the last four games, for fourteen, He was a minus twenty out there. I still like the fact that he got fourteen shots up in twenty four minutes and attempt at
seven three pointers. This kid is fearless. Look I've said this before, but if the defense of effort is there, if he's not turning the ball over much, they've got to be able to find some minutes for him because there is something there that he taps into that this Clippers team really needs.
Yeah, I think Law Murray tweeted it how there was going to be ten guys playing for kind of nine spots tonight, and I think that's gonna light of fire and make Bones kind of go for it a little harder in these last couple of games because Nor I'm still is trying to get worked back. I think he probably has you know, the spot over Bones right now.
But Bones is really efficient in a couple of games before this. If he can tap back into that and kind of help us turn it around in these final four games, I mean, that'll help him see some time in the playoffs for sure, and this Pelicans game tomorrow, it's like a playout type game, like to stay out of the play in you got to win this game. And brandon Ingram has been on a tear and they've dominated the Clippers last few years, including the play in game. They've won eight of their
last nine games. And they just played Saturday, different Clippers team though obviously no Marcus Morris, and they were going right at him early in that first quarter. I'm hoping this time, because we talked about it in our preview on Clips and Dip, that Kawhi Leonard's got to be on brandon Ingram to keep him from getting him rhythm earlier on the ball game, because once he gets one is hard to shut him down. Yeah. I mean, if Kawhi Leonard it's kind of hard to say this a little bit, right,
but I mean, Kawhi Leonard he didn't play that second half. The medical team seemed like it was a good idea. He's gonna be fully rested. We need inevitable Kawai tomorrow on both ends. You're totally right, He's got to be on BI. He's got to make it difficult for him right from the jump. I love what Nick Latune did tonight in the first quarter with his defensive intensity since he's been in the starting lineup, that's really raised when
the game has started. But I mean, all eyes are gonna be Kawai tomorrow night after what happened today, So we got to hope he's at his very best. You know, the time there were eyes on him for the
wrong reasons with that poor possession laid against the OKC thunder. He came back the very next game and went thirteen of fifteen with thirty two points, and it looked like and I know he doesn't hear any of these things, but some of the press clippings or what some people were saying about Dort putting him in the door tar chamber may have been caught on Kawai's radar because he was unreal in that ball game and as inevitable as he could be thirteen or fifteen
from the field. So I'm hopeful Kawai can bounce back with a huge, complete game, and coach lou did say he expects him to play his usual minutes tomorrow. Tip time for that one was at five thirty. We got Clippers campdown at four thirty Clippers in New Orleans taking on the Pelicans. Chuck, appreciate you doing this tonight, my friend. Unfortunately after a loss this time. But it's in the contract. What can we do about it? Hey, I gotta get Simil to take a look at that thing. Maybe
I'll be on the morrow after they win. Okay, I'm down for let's do it. Here is Charles Mockler of Clips and Dip Pod does it with myself and will update. Clippers lose tonight in Memphis one O eight to ninety four. Kawhi plays just the first half, held out in the second half to get ready for tomorrow's game. So the Clippers got one going against the Pelicans, one of the biggest games of the season until the next game. You know, that's how it goes. Right now, there's four remaining.
It feels like a postseason started early in the NBA playoff positioning. Everybody's aware of the standings. It is imperative for the Clippers to get this victory over the Pelicans tomorrow. More Clippers stock Next, we'll go back to your phone calls. Eight seven seven five two zero eleven. Fifty eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty. It listens to the Patriot AM eleven fifty, Clippers
fall in Memphis one oh eight to ninety four to the Grizzlies. I'm at a Moslin This is Clippers talk here on the page at AM eleven fifty. You remember when the Dodgers are playing on five seventy were over on the Patriot A M eleven fifty eight seven seven five two zero eleven fifty is the phone numbers. Morris clears your throat right for the song. I'm gonna you know I did have one, but I'm gonna tell you something. You're right.
The playoffs have already started. Yeah, have already started. Adam Still was a brilliant man. That playing thing was. Man, I'm telling you there's got a lot of cities excited because normally you'd be out of the mix. The playoffs have already started. It's something you said at him. You gonna stole my thunder. It's about momentum. We had it going on in the first quarter. I was at the pizza places with my wife. When we was there by twenty, I said, this car, honey, we're gonna
beat the traffic because we got this. But the only thing that's faster than the NBA is a hockey park. I mean, the game moves real quick. And I'm gonna tell you something. Don't nobody shows right from the Los Angeles Skippers. They don't store more games, stole more games than anybody in the NBA. They don't stole games in Portlands, they don't stole games in Dallas. It's just out of the territory. And I'm gonna tell you something.
How do you think Memphis felt? How do you think Memphis felt being the only achievement in the NBA to lose the fifteen point in league going into the fourth quarter. Well, and I'm gonna take we in trumpling a little bit. But as long as we got Kawhi with the attitude of I'm listening to no doctors, I'm playing the best, the attitude and the spirit we need, we're gonna be all right, Adams, the NBA in the West, it's tough, brother, but we're competing and it ain't over until it's
over. So we better be happy that we in the mix because a lot of cities ain't in the mix. Okay, So there it is. Let me let you go, Adam. Let you let some some pressing calls come on in leading Morris, thank you for the phone call. Look, the truth is the expectations we're gonna win the championship this season, something that Clippers can still achieve, but they have underachieved during the regular season so far. There's no doubt they might win as many games as they won last season without
Kawhi Leonard at all, with Paul George only playing thirty one games. So I understand the frustration and why people are a little bit discouraged, and why Kawai not playing in the second half of this one and the teammates apparently not knowing the plan or if there was a plan, we haven't gotten clarity on that. I get it. That couldn't count for guys all of a sudden have to change up the way they're playing, the roles, the mindset out there. Okay, I was going to defer to Kauai. Now I got
to be more of a scorer. That's tough to deal with. Now they got the split though in Memphis, and I expect Kawai to put it on a master class tomorrow against New Orleans. I just do he gets up for big games this way he does. He's a killer. He has been one of the best clutch performers of his era, and right now with the Clippers hanging on by a thread in the five seed currently, but Golden States up at the half over the San Antonio Spurs, and they're just a half game
back of the Clippers. And guess what I told you about it at the trade in line. The Lakers made some great moves and they are currently just a game and a half back of the Clippers. Now, Clippers do have the tiebreaker over them, but the Lakers have an easier schedule coming up outside of having him to play the Clippers. They got Utah a couple of times, they got Houston. They do have to play Phoenix, as do the Clippers, but that's the last game of the season. It's possible the Suns
have already wrapped things up with them being solidified in that four spot. We'll see Clippers still have something to say about that. Suns, by the way up early on the Denver Nuggets, who don't have Nicola Yokis tonight in Phoenix. So a lot of shuffling happening in the Western Conference currently. But I can't go through the season not warning you when there were bad signs and red flags along the way for why the Clippers are only at forty one wins and
why there are only four games above five hundred currently. I gotta be honest with you, it hasn't gone according to plan whatsoever. Do they still have the talent to get it done. Of course they do. But tomorrow's game against the Pelicans is gonna say a lot about this group. They've beaten the Clippers eight of their last nine matchups. They took them out in that play in tournament last year, and the Clippers did not have Kawhi Leonard in that
game. They didn't have Paul George either. Tomorrow they'll have Kauai. We're hoping Eric Gordon's okay because he's been very good, especially from the outside,
stretching the floor for this team. But these guys got to step up and put together their best performance forty eight minutes of locked in defense along with executing their offense, getting two feet in the paint, kicking it out, making the extra pass, turning down good shots for great shots because New Orleans can score with the best of them, and Brandon Ingram has been torching teams,
including the Clippers. You look back. He's having one of those ascensions, one of those moments where you're seeing the growth of a young player in real time. Because he's still just twenty five years of age. It's felt like he's been in the league forever, originally drafted by the Lakers, but he's still so young. And you just look in the month of March and he's getting twenty seven per game on fifty three percent shooting from the floor forty percent
from the outside. Last few games thirty one points, twenty six, twenty nine, thirty two, thirty thirty two, twenty six, thirty one. Clippers got to make a statement, and it's got to come early, no easy buckets, Everything contested, and hopefully Kawhi Leonard as the primary matchup against Brandon Ingram. He did eventually, but it was too late in the first quarter, as the Pelicans already got hot in that victory over the Clippers a
week ago last Saturday. First it was Marcus Morris trying to guard him. Kawhi eventually got on him, but then others like Trey Murphy, the third who went ten of twelve from the outside, got really hot and they shot sixty two percent from three against the Clippers. That can't happen again. Clippers can't get out rebounded by the Pelicans forty five to thirty one, and the Pells were a plus ten on the offensive boards. That can't happen again.
And that was a game where the Clippers had nineteen turnovers. They were great in the first quarter, big reason they led by twenty and they took care of the basketball today, but then the wheels fell off. There just has to be a laser focus tomorrow. Treat it like a playoff or a play in game. To stay out of the play in. Clippers and Pills tipping
off tomorrow at five thirty. We will have your pregame show right back here at four thirty as the Dodgers will be on AM five seventy LA Sports later tomorrow night, so we'll be on the Patriot AM eleven fifty Before we get
out of here. I do want to thank the Clippers organization. Noah Eagle, Brian Seaman, Ralph Lawler, big brother, Jake Warner, head engineer then a Stagustino statistician to the stars, Katie Newton, our producer, and Katie we got music for your Katie's Casual Corner Now because it's photoophs plan. What's your question tonight before? It's a really easy one. Like you you watched basketball growing up, right, I did? Who was your favorite player as a kid like that? You were like, yes, m I don't
know if I should say this you were a kid, you were. I didn't love the team, but I loved this player because the way he shared the basketball, and that would be Magic Johnson and sharing is caring. And I loved the fact that he gave the Clippers of itza zoo boss for Michael Muscala. There we go. But you know I grew up in NorCal. Yeah, I was a King's fan. There's no conflict of interest there. I haven't been a Lakers fan ever, but Matgic Johnson was my favorite player.
Just love washing him play with that joy. Clippers got a good one though, in Russell Westbrook. Right now, let's hope you can bounce back tomorrow too. Good question, Katie. We'll do it again tomorrow starting at four thirty with your pregame show Clippers Pelicans. I'm Adam Oslin. We'll talk to you then.
