Transcript

Time for a postgame. Look, it's your LA Clippers. This is Clippers locker Road breaking down today's action with the pre and post game voice. If you're LA Clippers, they're locking in every game every night. Adam Osland Clippers fall in the preseason finale one O three to ninety to the Denver Nuggets. Without Kawhi, without Paul George, without Russell Westbrook, they were more than competitive. It was the tie ballgame at the half bones Highland finished with twenty

five points, but left the game in the third quarter. Looked to be a left ankle that was turned, but all reports so far as saying not serious. Why so serious? We're glad it's not serious. That's what we're hearing. LA Murray's posted that and Andrew Griefe of the La Times. So

the Clippers go too and two in the preseason. The regular season starts next Wednesday, right back here at Crypto dot Com Arena, where the Clippers will be hosting the Portland Trail Blazers. More on that and much more with Carlojmenez postgame next right here on the Clippers Audio or LA Clippers Basketball is on the two one three Era continues. You're listening to the LA Clippers on the LA Clippers Audio Network. Clippers Paul in their preseason finale to the Denver Nuggets the

regular season less than a week away. They're right back here at Crypto dot Com Arena. Taken on the Portland Trailblazers in the home opener. Welcome back into your postgame show. I'm Adam Oslin. Still to come your final box score and will Updike from Clips and Dip will be here, but first rejoined

the show. He's your radio voice up the Clippers in Carlojmenez. Carlo, I know it ended on a sour note with Bones Highland because of that left ankle that was turned, but it doesn't sound or doesn't seem to be too serious. And he was phenomenal in his twenty four minutes. He scored twenty five points efficiently, was also getting the others involved around him. He was the catalyst. He was their offense tonight without their big three. He was

unstoppable. And this Denver defense, which is very good around the rim, looked like it had every hole against it. I mean, Bones Highland had no issue not only getting to the rim but finishing around the rim like you said among a flurry of dark blue uniforms all day. He was excellent for the Clippers, and all you can do is hope that he's ready to go. But man, that Sankey unit with Highland kJ Martin also played well today.

Nine points off the bench for him. This is a group that's very, very dangerous, and you just the Clipper was once again at him as we begin in the regular seat and you say this is a deep, deep team. Yeah, depth not at a premium. With the Clippers, It's obvious to everyone that they are one of the deepest teams in the league. So if there is a chance Bones isn't able to go next Wednesday, we don't know that to be the case yet, but they have more than enough

to make up for that loss. I thought there was some good performance otherwise. Iviza Zuba's defensive patrolling the paint. He and Mason Plumley were very good.

We talked about that moat they were building around the basket early on the first half, and you could just tell the difference when those two were out of the game late in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets felt like there was blood in the water and they started feasting on the interior but it just shined a light more on just how well the Clippers were with that interior defense early on the ballgame. Yeah, Mason Plumley had two blocks and ran the break

a couple of times today, which was impressive. I think you're right, and it felt like once Plumbley went out of the games, Ike Nagee had four dunks where no one was around him and he was right at the rim. So you like what you see from Plumbley from each Zubots something Kawhi Leonard has talked about openly, the fact that you have a guy like Plumbley, who would start on a lot of other NBA teams, is your backup big. Not only does that alleviate stuff for Zubots, but what it gives you

on the offensive and defensive end is huge. And Mason Plumley, you mentioned Adam a guy who wants to be there, he said when he signed with the Clippers for that one year deal. In his ten plus years in the league, he's only had two teams that have talked about championship in the preseason.

That is an honor to be able to be in that conversation, and he brings that veteran presence to this team that you love to see underneath the rint and look defensively, only giving up one zero three in a game in today's NBA, that's not a bad number at all, and that's with a twenty five point fourth quarter from the Denver Nuggets, but holding Jamal Murray in

check. And I know it's the preseason, but the effort we saw, and we talk about Bones Highland and what he was able to do before turning that inkle on the offensive end, I felt like some of the things we talked about in the pregame with that effort defensively, he needs to give out there, regardless of him being slight of frame. If he just plays hard on the defensive end, he's capable. And I thought he did a very good job on Jamal Murray on a few different possessions. Yeah, he was.

He was excellent against Jamal Murray. Jamal looked uncomfortable all night and he finished one for six from three to three for eleven from the field. This guy he's gonna get it going. But to get those numbers out of somebody who just came off a Finals performance where he averaged twenty one to ten. The only other people to do that at him are Magic Jordan and Lebron so

good. See, yeah, that's good company if you ask me. And Terrence Man and Bones Hyland had him twisted around, had him struggling from outside the arc. I think this was a Clipper team that came in and felt the challenge of being a second unit facing the defending NBA champs with most of their starters, and stepped right up to it. And if they don't shoot four for twenty four from the three point line, we might be talking about a different result today. Well, and shots come and go, and it's

been an issue so far in the preseason. We'll see if that has any carryover whatsoever to gain one of the regular season. But I'm just not as worried about the shooting. This team looked to be developing an identity throughout the preseason, throughout training camp, and regardless of who was out there tonight, and obviously the big three were missing, it looked like Clippers basketball on how they want to play. You mentioned how they've been getting up and down in

transition, but also defensively. They were just so much more active in these four games really than what I saw in consecutive games all of last year where they just couldn't figure it out on that end. Yeah, the points off turnovers, the second chance points, the fast break points, all hustle stats, and the Clippers have thrived in all of those. And Adam, if you think this is a fast pace, as we heard in the interview earlier, head coach Heron lu said, I want a little faster. My guys

are run a little more. And I'm just excited to see what that looks like because clearly, I mean, it's been working for this Clippers team. There were bottom of the NBA and pace last year, and they see the success. Teams like the Sacramento Kings have, Teams like the Denver Nuggets. I mean, Nicolie Ookisch would catch a rebound and throw a full court football pass and they would have a bucket in the blink of an eye off a mad Clipper bucket. When you play a little faster, it opens everything up.

You get more rebounds because teams have to retreat back, they can't send all five guys to the glass. It really makes it easier on offenses. So excited to see how things continue to work with this fast paced Excited that this team has for the most part taking care of the basketball. I mean it, Seventeen turnovers today is not great, but they haven't thrown it away too much throughout these first four games, and they'll continue to try to be

able to take care of the wall with that fast pace. And five of those came late in the fourth quarter. There was some sloppy play. Some different lineups out there can lead to that, just lacking that continuity, But

I agree with you the overall play from this Clippers team. They're starting to gel, They're starting to figure out how they want to play in the approach they need to enter the regular season with the word we've been hearing all season long, really since the season ended against the Phoenix Suns last year, but a more serious approach to the regular season is something they need. So full sweet ahead Game one Clippers taking on Scoot Henderson, Anthony Simons and DeAndre Eton

and the Portland Trailblazers next Wednesday night. Right back here at Crypto dot Com Arena tiptime at seven thirty. We got your Clippers pregame shows starting at six point thirty. Carlo Jimenez, great call throughout these four games, looking forward for it being real now and the box scores tallying up and these stats counting for in perportunity for the rest of time. Then Clippers start things for real next Wednesday night. Looking forward to my friends, We're gonna have some fun.

Let me tell you, we're gonna have some fun. I wish Wednesday was tomorrow, but it's Friday, so can't come on. Friday is not the worst. Come on there until next Wednesday, Carlo, talk to you, then talk to then Adam coming up next your final box score. Clippers fall one o three to ninety here at home in their final preseason game to

the Denver Nuggets. And you're listening to the Los Angeles Clippers audience. They want to bring a banner with them to the into adult more LA Clippers Basketball on the LA Clippers Audio Network. Clippers fall in the final preseason game one O three to ninety without their big three. More than competitive against this Denver

Nuggets team, met him at fifty three points at the half. Things started to slip away as the Denver Nuggets seemed more intent leaving their starters out there, getting a little bit of positive vibes with their starting unit, and it was a little bit deflating for this Clippers team to see Bones Highland, who was the star of the ballgame with twenty five points in under twenty five minutes, leave with that left ankle being turned. But it sounds like good news

on that front. And we're still waiting from a quote from coach lou but multiple reporters saying that it doesn't seem to be a serious injury for busy Bones Highland. Again, he finished with those twenty five on ten of fifteen shooting, but more importantly, the type of shots he was getting was against the starters for the Denver Nuggets. I'm talking about taking Jamal Murray to the basket, going after Aaron Gordon after he had blocked him earlier in the ballgame.

Bones Highland, fearless, went right back after a man a move got to lay up on him, went around Jamal Murray again and put a floater over the top of Nikola Jokich. This guy is wise beyond his years. His play in this preseason. You want to talk about a player developing and seeing some tangible growth in real time, I feel like Bones Highland has been that

for the Clippers here in preseason and in the training camp. He is starting to show some things that really make everyone believe he can easily be this Clippers backup point guard, and he is a point guard, not just a scorer out there. He also had six assists just one turnover, was making the game easier for everyone else. When you don't have your great two way superstars, isolation players that can create for themselves, you kind of have to develop

a new offense. And the Clippers were running a lot of pick and roll looking for the big men diving towards the basket and a Vista Zubats and Mason Plumley, but also bones Highland would just take it upon himself to make things happen on offense and the way he can turn the corner on defenders and get by him. We've talked about this team need to get younger and infusion of talent, athleticism, juice bones Hiland has it all. So hopefully that ankle

heals up and he's back sooner than later. Again, the report from Andrew Grivet said he may not miss any games at least has some days off now until game one of the regular season next Wednesday. Right back here against the Portland Trail Blazers. Rotco Robert Coverington nice outing as well, seven points, three of six shooting, knocked down a three pointer, one of the few to do so for the Clippers in this one is there were just four twenty

four from the outside. Terrence Man ten points, all three of his makes I want to say, fall away step back jumpers, just like we saw him hit four of those last time out. Also develop showing him expanding his game, expanding his bag of tricks. Loved seeing that. I thought this was Kenny Martin Junior's best ball game, especially in that second half. I think he played all of his minutes. Keny Martin Junior had two huge throwdowns.

He showed off the athleticism the springs, and Mason Plumbley found him for one of those with just a point plumb like pass. I mean, ridiculous stuff from a seven footer. We know Mason Plumley is very capable of that, and I thought in his seventeen minutes was very good. Six and seven. Also going up against his former team, two of three shooting for him.

Kobe Brown hit a three pointer or light, was aggressive out there and had three steals, and some of that transition ball the Clippers got into were due to him starting things off, creating turnovers on the other end, and one more four you here, Norman Powell my player to watch, just four thirteen, but signs of life with the jumper. He got a three pointer to go. He got to the basket early for his first bucket in transition, then miss four straight, then gotta jump her, then got a three

pointer. It's starting to come around. It's not gonna take long. He just has been a little bit off and a bit of a shooting funk, but not very concerned about it. We know how good Norman Powell has been in a Clippers uniform. As for the Denver Nuggets tonight, Nikola Jokis in twenty eight minutes, twenty five points, fourteen boards, and eight assists to

just one turnover. Outstanding performance. When we talked about it earlier with Carlo Jimenez, your radio voice of the Clippers, Jamal Murray's just three of eleven and it was Terrence man on him along with Bones Highland to hold him to three of eleven in just eight points, and he was trying to figure it out and get off the snide. It just didn't matter. But there was

a little bit more of a competitive edge out there. I think from Bones Highland going up against his former team and a GM who just made the comments he did about him and his lack of defense. Well, Bone showed him something and we're hoping again for a speedy recovery. Clippers fall tonight without their big three one O three to ninety two the Denver Nuggets and preseason game number

four the finale next week next Wednesday. Right back here at Crypto dot com Arena, it's game one up, the eighty two game regular season Clippers taking on the Portland Trail Blazers. More on that coming up with Will Updike from Clips and Dip As. You're listening to your postgame show Clippers Locker Room right here on the Los Angeles Clippers Audio That way, every Clipper game all season low, they didn't stop playing hard. You're listening to the LA Clippers Audio

Network streaming on the iHeartRadio app. Clippers finished off the preseason with unfortunately a loss to the Denver Nuggets one O three to ninety but no Paul George, no Kawhi Leonard, no Russell Westbrook. The Clippers had it tied at fifty three at the half and they were down by seven before Denver called off the dog to Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon out of the ball game. Welcome back into your postgame show. This is Clippers' locker room. I'm

out of Moslin. You heard the music. We got a little clips and double dip for you. Will Updyke is joining us here tonight. Will, I'm gonna start with this, and I know a lot of people are saying, Oh, the Clippers just can't have nice things on a night where bones Hyland drops twenty five points in less than twenty five minutes. He turns the ankle, but it sounds like it's not serious, and he was absolutely electric

out there. This is someone who's gonna be a fan favorite. And I mean, I'm assuming this, but they're back up point guard, right. He has played that well in the preseason. Will, where are you all right? We'll try to reconnect with Will Updike here. But the Clippers fall by thirteen in a game where I felt like they were starting to establish DNA. And the reason I say that is because your identity stays regardless of who

is available. And tonight was really that first test without Paul George, without Kawhi Leonard and look, we know there are going to be times guys get banged up throughout a long regular season where those players will be missing games. We hope it's not often, but when they do, the Clippers have to play the same way. They have to execute, They have to find a way and to just figure out ways to play great defense every night. Shots

come and go. Clippers have not shot it well overall, especially from distance in the preseason. I'm not that concerned love averages will come into play. There just four of twenty four from the outside tonight, As Carlo Jimenez said, well, hey, get it out of your system now in the preseason and hopefully those shots start to fall in the regular season. But if you develop a defensive identity, you just find ways to dig your heels in. Play five guys on a string, no matter who is out there, you

got a chance to win every night. And I think the Clippers are starting to get that back. It's been missing for some time. Sure, two years ago it was expected there would be slippage on the defensive end. No Kawhi that entire year. Paul George has played thirty games, but last season with Kawhi, and I think fifty one games, the Clippers were seventeenth defensively. The majority of the season, they were bottom ten. It was worse

than that. That can't happen, That cannot continue. So coach Lewis stressed it throughout the preseason, throughout training camp. This team is going to get back to being a top five defense. And that is music to Clippers fans years because I'm telling you the shots will come and go, but they have the personnel to put up points. If you look at the offensive ratings from

their stars during the preseason, they're off the charts. They're elite. When they've been out there, they've been able to generate offense and get easy buckets. Kawhi Paul George Russell, Westbrook. I love the way he's been setting the table, just emphasizing playmaking, not worrying about getting his own did knock down a three pointer last game, good to see, did have a burst in transition and got a layup to go to see you look like the fastest

player in the world once again. Great. But the way he can generate open looks for others, I think is what really makes him special. As we're trying to connect with Will Updyke, and it doesn't look like we're gonna be able to do that. Phones aren't working. It's the preseason for everyone, including the Gnomes and the Grimlins trying to take us down. We'll succeed anyways. Next week Clippers back here at Crypto dot Com Arena for Game one

of the regular season against the Portland Trail Blazers. Interested to see Scoot Henderson for the first time in an NBA game. DeAndre Ayton could be eaten now away from the Phoenix Suns because he wanted more touches. He wanted to get the ball in his hands. He's got that opportunity now with the Portland Trail Blazers, and Anthony Simons is somebody that can light you up at any given moment. When he catches fire, he looks like one of the best offensive

players in the NBA. The Clippers have been on the wrong side of that before, so it should be a good one. But I'm mostly excited because I think this Clippers team has figured something out on the defensive end, and whether it's the positive vibes we've seen guys just genuinely enjoying playing next to one another. The locker room is close. Kawhi and Bones Highland. They've become close. Looks like there's a friendship there. I had no idea Kawhi was

as close to Russell Westbrook as he expressed during training camp. So a lot of things, even on a night like tonight where they lose by thirteen to the Denver Nuggets without their big three, to look at and say, hey, there's some positives, there's some momentum heading into next week. I think that's the most important thing. Clippers lose tonight one o three to ninety before we get out of here. I do want to get to Big Brother Jake Warner, the man, the myth, the legend, the fake philosopher as

some like to call him. And I don't even know if he knew I was coming to him tonight, Sir, they stay ready. You ain't got to get ready, damn right, what's up, prof It's positive moments with Big Brother Jake Warner. You already know positive moment of the evening. You'll never find peace in an environment you're not supposed to be in. Okay, there's a lot of ways to take that, but we're supposed to be here, and it's positive always. Adam that's how we bring it. The vibes

are so immaculate, you know it. Yeah, Peace inharmony here at Crypto dot com arena tonight, hoping for the best from Bowles Highland and that turned Ankle. We'll see follow me at follow out of May for updates there, which means I'll be retweeting people who have the actual knowledge, but still updates

will be there before we get out of here tonight. I do want to thank the Clippers organization, Ralph Wahler, Brian Seaman, Noah Ego, Carlo and men as great call Pigrlther, Jake Warners, our head engineer here at the crypt Katie Newton, our producer back in Burbank until next Wednesday for game one of the regular seasons, starting at six point thirty with the pregame show Clippers Countdown. I'm Adam Austland. We will talk to you then. This

has been La Clippers basket really good on multitude of levels. Don't miss a moment. I'll cease and long on their official hold. Join us next time on the La Clippers Audio Network
