Clippers fall 131-110 to the Pelicans

Transcript

The game is over. Paul George money in the pain, but the postgame reaction has just be goot GOHI Leonard is so smooth in the mid range. This is Clippers locker Room, a recap of today's game and a look ahead on your home for LA Clippers basketball. And now your host, You, sir, are a bad man, Adam Auslin. Clippers fall one thirty one to one ten here at home at Crypto dot com arena to the New Orleans Pelicans. Welcome into your postgame show. I'm Adam Oslin, coming up your

post game box scoring. You'll hear from the head coach in the players. But first we head back over to your voice of the Clippers. Noah Eagle, No, you brought it up when it was a twenty mark disparity in terms of shots taken in this ball game, New New Orleans ends up with twenty one more attempts thanks to offensive rebounds and Clippers having twenty turnovers themselves is an unreal numbered overcomes. Yeah, shoot yourself in a foot in a lot

of ways. And again there were a lot of aspects of the Clippers actually played pretty well in this game. Shout fifty two percent shot forty six percent from three made fifteen of them at twenty nine assists on thirty nine made field goals when seventeen of twenty one eighty one percent at the free throw line,

and they forced sixteen turnovers that led to twenty one points. So there are a lot of areas that you still say, oh, you know what, the Clippers played pretty well, and on most nights all those numbers I just listed to you result in a W. But this was not one of those

nights. This was a night in which the defense for the Clippers just wasn't anywhere near what their standard is that they set for themselves and what we've seen of late from this team, because it just feels like they had been turning that corner on the defensive end, especially earlier in this month and the five game homestand they're playing some elite defense against the likes of the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks and eventually the Golden State Warriors. Even though Steph Curry

had the huge night, nobody else really hurt them. It feels like they've lost that a little bit. They did a great job the first game against Oklahoma City and the second game allowing just one on one one oh five, and those two against one of the best offenses in the NBA. The game against Orlando, they had a couple of lapses, but overall still defensively they were still right there. This was the first time in a little time where

it just didn't feel like the defense was up to par. And if your defense isn't up to par in this league, with how great shooters, skill players, wings guards, big men, all of them are the skill in this NBA right now, if your defense isn't up to par, you're not gonna win very many games. And I think this was a perfect example of

that. Everything else was set up for this team to win, and yet still because of the lack of defensive intensity, because of twenty one more shot attempts, because of a crazy shooting night from three, and because of the offense and rebounds on the turnovers, the Clippers just can't find their way back and trail from wire to wire. Pelicans end up shooting sixty two percent from the outside. Brandon Ingram got going early, Trey Murphy did as well.

He never stopped. He went for a career high ten main three pointers, had thirty two points where he averages thirteen on the season. But on the positive side for the Clippers, as we're looking for some silver linings here, some young guys got some run. Bones Highland at twenty three minutes and you know, I know, he had five turnovers in this one as the Clippers are turning the ball over left and right, but still seven assists in eighteen

points. And this is somebody who goes out there and he is not afraid to put them off. So here's an interesting stat for you, Adam, and Bones was a minus twelve today. In fact, there was only one player on the Clippers who was a positive plus minus, who was Xavier Moon, who played the final six forty six of the game, and he was a plus one this year including Denver. When Bones Highland is a positive plus

minus, his teams were fourteen and one, and that includes Thursday. He was at plus thirty two in twenty six minutes against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He impacts winning when he's playing at a high level, and he was playing at a high level for the most part. You mentioned the turnovers were concern, and that's the area that he's gonna have to clean up. But the defense wasn't there. Enough for the Clippers to get through it. But when he's a positive, when he is a net positive, his teams are net

positives overall. So I think we've seen some really good things these last two games from Bones and encouraging signs that he's going to continue to develop within this core, within this culture, and even within these lineups for these final now seven regular season games. The Clippers are down a few guys and we don't know the status of Kawhi Leonard, who left this game with a facial contusion.

Will update you on that the rest of the night. Here in your post game show is the Clippers fall one thirty one to one ten to the New Orleans Pelicans here in downtown Los Angeles. Clippers. Next game coming up Monday night, they're taking on doubles. Tip time is at seven thirty. We gotch pregame shows starting at six thirty. No Eagle, great calls always. We'll talk to you on Monday, Adam. You know it always stays the same. Can't wait. Let's go post game box score coming up next.

Clippers lose a tough one to the Pelicans here at home, and you're listening to the Los Angeles Clippers rightio network, who is blocked by George this LA Clippers basket. He is a one man or the defensive man on the home of your LA Clippers. Clippers lose one thirty one to one ten here at Crypto dot Com Arena to the New Orleans Pelicans. Coming up, we'll preview Monday nights game against the Chicago Bulls. While we have a moment,

though, let's pause ten seconds for station identification. Here in Los Angeles Clippers Radio network. This is LA Clippers Basketball A five seventy KLAC Los Angeles, ninety eight seven KYSR HD two Los Angeles and iHeart Radio station. Clippers end up shooting fifty two percent from the field, great fifteen thirty three from the outside, fantastic forty six percent from distance. Problem was the Pelicans got up twenty one more shots and they hit twenty one three's on twenty one of thirty

four shooting. That is, sixty two percent from the outside. Shot better from three than from two. They were just fifty three percent from the field. Clippers with twenty turnovers leading to twenty eight points for the Pelicans. Pelicans had sixteen themselves just eleven hang into the fourth quarter. And some of the numbers are a little bit skewed during inconsequential time, of course, but we'll still give him till you try to sort through it. Brandon Ingram finished with

thirty two points. Trey Murphy with thirty two as well, career high ten made three pointers for the Pelicans. Off the bench. Josh Richardson heard the Clippers as well, three or six from the outside. He had thirteen points as four year Los Angeles Clippers, who were outrebound on the offensive board. In the offensive board category twelve to two. They lost the rebounding battle overall thirty three to twenty nine, but twelve to two. Ten more offensive rebounds

by the Pelicans. That just can't happen in this one. A lot of that. Jonas Valancinis, of course, he had thirteen boards. There was not a Clipper in double figures. Rebounding wise, they were led by Bold Thailand. He had eighteen points in twenty three minutes, seven or twelve, shooting three of eight from the outside. Kept fighting, kept pushing the pace out there. They'd have five turnovers but seven assists. I love the energy

who brings Clippers, though didn't get much else. Robert Covington came in late in the third quarter, played really well in his minutes sixteen minutes, eleven points, went three of three from distance. Nicholas Batoum still looks to be on the uptrend when it comes to his outside shooting, after going four of six Thursday night. After struggling a little bit, he went four six from distance tonight with thirteen points. But your starters Russell Westbrook just four of twelve

fourteen points. Eric Gordon did have fifteen five five shooting again a nice game, three of three from the outside. Didn't play much in the second half. This one got away from him. Beats the Zubos with thirteen and five. Marcus Morris finished with just two points and twenty two minutes. Kawhi Leonard four of sixteen for twelve points, left with a facial contusion in this one. Coming up, We'll get to your phone calls eight six six ninety eight seven two five seventy eight six sixty nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number, or get to meet at follow Adam A coming up. Hoping at postgame audio from coach Lou and the players after one of the most if not the most disappointing loss of the season. Like the Pelicans obviously have talent even without Zion Williamson. We knew that coming in. Brandon Ingram's a stud and

he proved it again thirty two points and thirteen assists to one turnover. I saw this number his last two games. Brandon Ingram has twenty three assists to one turnover. So not only is he scoring on you, he's finding the open man every time, and there was a lot of open men for the Pelicans in this one. The Clippers defense came out completely flat. No one was taking the challenge of staying in front of their man for the most part.

And if you think the Clippers are the only team with the philosophy of drive kicks swing, getting to the paint draws you defenders find the open man. I got news for you. Teams do it all across the league. The Pelicans did that tonight. That's how you get a number like this. Sixty two percent is what they shot from three. They go twenty one to thirty four from the outside and hit nine of their first eleven in the first

quarter, and the Clippers were down thirty seven to twenty six. Quick starters outside of Kauai and even he really struggled with in this game, have not been good the last two games. Remember Thursday night against Okay. See the difference was Kauai with the bench with batomb with Plumbly with man with bones Thailand. Tonight, the starters once again came out, got down by eight quickly,

didn't rotate well defensively on the parimeter especially. And you can say it's just a hot shooting night all you want, but when professionals get wide open shots, eventually even when you do have a hand in their face, and I saw it, and the effort was there. Later it doesn't matter, they're gonna knock them down because they found a rhythm, they found to flow

and these guys don't miss. And for a team that shoots thirty five percent from the three point line to shoot sixty two percent tonight underscores my point. You give up open shots early, they start making tough shots later. That's what I saw out there. Brandon Ingram had fourteen points in the first quarter. Trey Murphy started four or four from the outside and had twelve points in the first quarter. You let him cook and get hot, it's gonna be

hard to stop. On the rest of the game. Trey Murphy went for his career high ten main three pointers thirty two points. A lot of them were open, and then even when they weren't and guys were trying to run him off the line, he just looked right through them and dropped it down the bucket. This Clippers defense has been up and down all season long, but you take out the first seven games of the year when they came out

and they were playing lesser competition and Iviza Zubas was unbelievable. And I thought they were gonna hang their hat on their defense and they were gonna get by on that end because they started off the first seven games that way. But she take out the first seven games, and now it's just seven games left

in the season. They're basically a bottom ten defense this year. That's where they've been, even though it looked like they were making strides, even though in five of the last seven games they hadn't given up more than one oh five in five of those last seven, they give up one thirty one tonight, and I just did not like the effort on that end, and the

lack of chemistry and organization defensively, or guys just weren't communicating well. It just looked like the New Orleans Pelicans were slicing and dicing through the Clippers defense and getting whatever shot they wanted, and they were hunting matchups. I saw them go after Marcus Morris early on. Whenever there was a small out there. They went at Bones, Highland two, Russell Westbrook. They were getting the switches. Clippers didn't do a good enough job fighting through them, and

guys were getting burned. There were ton of blue eyes the Clippers offense was probably good enough if you can cut down the turnovers, like they shot the ball well when they got shots up. Problem with the problem is they only took seventy five shots. The Pelicans took ninety six, twenty one more shot attempts. They used to ten more offensive rebounds. They won that category twelve to two. And the Clippers had swenty turnovers Pelicans sixteen, but five of

them came late. Of course, seven of the Clippers came in the fourth quarter, two during inconsequential garbage time. Is this one was over early in the fourth And now we're waiting for a status update on Kawhi. Leonard left with a facial contusion. May have been a play where it looked like he got hit in the face by brandon Ingram Just eyeball test tell me that we'll see trying to find let's see I check Andrew Greif's Twitter account right now,

trying to find an update on Kauai. We'll do what we can here. But this was a brutal loss for the Clippers because you're hanging on by a thread right now in the five seed currently standings wise, and you can easily get bounced into the play in tournament. They got the Bulls Monday night, then they got two in Memphis, and I'm here to tell you there are some teams, not just the Pelicans, that are surging currently, and the team across the Hall is one of them. They've won seven of their last

ten. They play the Bulls first tomorrow. Clippers will catch the Bulls on the second night of a back to back. But Clippers just haven't been good enough defensively all season. They've been inconsistent on that end. It continues in this game. They couldn't get stops when they needed to, and even when they were knocking down shots. It doesn't matter if you're just trading buckets.

I mean, there was a play where Richardson end of the third quarter is fading away from Bones Highland, who great a great defensive effort, had a hand in his face. Doesn't matter Richardson. Josh Richardson was already hot, knocked it down to end the third and I thought Bones played well, played hard. I don't put it on him. I don't put it on any one guy. Collectively, they aren't good enough defensively, not playing championship level

defense. They don't have championship level insistency. They don't have an identity. What's their identity? Being consistently inconsistent. I've been telling you for three months. I don't know where else to put it. They're up and down on offense, They're up and down on defense. Post All Star Break, now I want to say they're six and eight. I'll check on that for you eight six, six nine eight seven two five seventy eight six six, nine

eight seven two five seventy. Mike chimes in on Twitter at Mike Underscore h nineteen ninety. Let's tune in, y'all. Adams dropping some cold hard truth on the Clippers lack of defense tonight. I feel like I've been doing this throughout a lot of the season. If you follow me at follow Adam Ay, I'm telling you they're defensive rating. I'll check it right now, because it's been hovering around twelve. It's not true. That's not indica of who

they've been defensively. Yeah, they were eleventh. I don't know if this is counting tonight's game yet. On the season, they're eleventh defensively. You take out the first seven games, they're close to being bottom ten. That eleven defensive rating is fraudulent. I'm sorry if I got to speak the cold heart truth tonight after a loss like this. They aren't close to top ten

defensively. They aren't the team they were defensively back in October. All I have to do here is go back to November first, plug in the parameters and check what their defensive rating has been since then. Sixteen and I don't think that's counting for tonight's game. So who is this Clippers team with all the players turn the roster turnover, and the different players post All Star Break?

What's the style of play? Tell me, because I've seen a team that's been up and down for a while now, and they just don't look like they've had a fully crystallized identity all season long. Some of it's out of your hands when you got injuries and your two superstars. Unfortunately, I've been snake bit with injuries, and we're hoping for the best now from Kauai, as we're hoping for a speedy recovery from Paul George. But a lot

of defense's effort. Noah Eagle brought it up the late great Willis read Now said it. You know it's ninety percent effort, But you gotta communicate too, And even if you're playing fast and trying to stay in front of your man, if you over committed times to a move he makes, you're also playing bad defense if you're getting shook that way. So sometimes the energy and

effort was there, execution was not. A whole lot went wrong for the Clippers tonight, and hopefully Kawhi Leonards okay, because they get a game Monday night. It's huge against the Bulls, who again are playing better. To start things off here on Clippers Talk, let's go to Ben in Glendale. Ben, what's up, Hey, Adam, thanks for taking my call. I was at the game tonight. That was just a real rough one to have to watch. I agree with everything you said. Defensively, it's just

I with PG out, we have so little room for error. We've got to be playing almost perfectly from here on out with how tight the standings are, and it was just really hard to watch. I just I don't know. I don't know what the answer is. I don't know if it's coaching. You know, at some point we've got to look at how these guys are coached, especially especially defensively. But I gotta talk about the elphant and in the rum. You know, like Marcus Morris, he does not.

He has no business playing twenty two minutes out there. Like I'm glad that Roco got the minute. I'm glad that he's playing well. He's taken advantage of it and hopefully we can see more of him. Yeah, I hear you. I appreciate the phone call. Ben Marcus struggled again. He was my player to watch. He's been in a deep, deep shooting funk. I talked about it pregame. He's under forty percent from the field, about thirty percent from three In this one, he was hesitant, just took three

shots. There were times he was deferring to Russell Westbrook out of the three point line when he had an open look. Understandably, his confidence could be very low at the moment because he just hasn't had it defensively. I gotta tell you what I observed out there. He was getting picked on at times. They were going at him. CJ. Mccollumb got the switch isolated, took him to his island, went by him for a layup. I'm not trying to be harsh or overly critical. That's just what happened. It's a

fact. I want Marcus to succeed two. I think he's gonna pull out of this slump. But there's seven games left. There's not a lot of time. Robert Covington, when he's gotten minutes, has performed problems. He didn't come until late in the third quarter. Guy went three or three from distance, had eleven points, was on the floor on the hardwood, creating a turnover, grabbing a steel down by twenty with a couple of minutes left. I love that effort. I love that energy from Rocco. I wouldn't

mind seeing him play more either. But I've been saying it all season long. I don't. I don't have a great answer for you. I don't the article from Tomarrazarli I read it. I think there's definitely some truth to it with some of the advanced numbers. Check it out. He works for clutch Points. He went around asking why is Marcus playing this much and Roco not playing so much? I found it interesting, but I know our night

like tonight, not a lot of people want to hear it. They don't want to hear advanced numbers or how Marcus fits better with the starters, and that has been the theory, but the starters aren't playing well the last two games outside of Kauai and Kawai didn't have a good game tonight. And I've told you for a while, you can't expect a guy to stay at fifty

fifteen ninety forever. What happens when he doesn't All those flaws that he was masking up with his great, otherworldly like performances the last three months, they get expose real quick when he has a bad night he did. The hope is that he's just okay with the facial contusion, because that's your guy. That's the guy that can lead him out of this. That's someone who has looked like a top three player in twenty twenty three. Clippers fault tonight one

thirty one to one ten to the New Orleans Pelicans. Here at Crypto dot com arena, coming up more of your phone calls. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Big Big game Monday Night, Clipper Nation. You gotta show up big in that one because I know shy Town transplants are gonna be here rooting for a double Bowls. This Clippers team needs you. They can

feed off the energy of the crowd. They try to create it for themselves sometimes. And Russell Westbrook, there's a love affair with him in cliper Nation already. He makes a big play and he had some struggled overall. He tries to get the crowd pumped up immediately. He got a great and one off Kawhi finding him rolling to the basket in the first half. But the

Clippers defense pretty much non existence tonight. Looking for coach lu Audio coming up right here on Clippers Stalk on a five seventy LA Sports Who is blocked by George this LA Clippers basketball. He is a one man ra the defensive man on the home of your LA Clippers. You know it's one of those nights Clippers lose one thirty one to one ten here and downtown Los Angeles and the music stopped. I'm out a bos On live from Crypto dot Com arena coming

up. You're gonna hear from the head coach in tehron Loo eight six six nine eight seven two five seventies where you can get to us at eight six six ninety seven two five seventy or I'm at follow Adam a. The Clippers have had a lack of conviction on the defensive end all season. Guys have not taken up the challenge enough of staying in front of their man so they don't get you in rotation, leading to open three pointers like we saw tonight

from the Pelicans. But the starters tonight they have to set the tone. They set the tone about the same setting we had the music thereat. They were silent defensively. We needed to needed them to be loud to have a great performance, and instead it was a quiet early start in a game that's not a matinee contest. I would have thought this was your typical twelve thirty one o'clock tip with the way the Clippers came out lifeless on both ends,

but specifically defensively. You get beat up that much in the first quarter where you're down thirteen early on and a team is nine of eleven from three and you already have four turnovers, and nobody really has it going outside of a B to Zoobots, who I wish they would feature more, utilize more offensively. It works when they do it, they don't do it enough. He had eight points in the first quarter. And finished with just thirteen guys six

of seven shooting. He went five for five Tuesday night against the Okase Thunder. If a guy who's shooting near seventy percent from the field is having a good night, feed the beast. He gets you easy buckets. He has moves, and Russell Westbrook and him have a really good connection. They showed it again tonight. He knows how to get a big man involved. They

go away from it far too often, it feels like. But defensively and I know sometimes when you struggle offensively, you can't get stops on the other end. Defensively, though, is what really hurt him tonight. Just focus effort and for a team that needs to build up chemistry on that end and show up their defense heading into the playoffs or the play in or the offseason. I'm gonna be honest with you. Nothing's guaranteed. I've told you this

many times. You go on a losing streak. With the way the West has been set up in the standings, and the teams that are climbing and fighting over one another and beating each other up, and a bunch of records that are so close to each other, you go on a losing Streak Town in the season, you'll be out of the postseason entirely. That would be

just unfathomable. Fathomable of a thought to have coming into this season that the Clippers could fall out of the postseason completely, not even make the play in, But it has to be brought up. They're currently two and a half games up on the tenth seed in the Okase thunder who has the tiebreaker over that? Really the only team the Clippers have the tiebreaker over right now the

Golden State Warriors and the Lakers, who they've beating three times already. That game on April fifth, though I posted about it yesterday, I've been trying to tell people, Hey, the Lakers playing really good ball. They made some really good moves. They're coming. They don't have Lebron, but they have an identity, they know how they want to play. They could have Lebron back soon all of a sudden. Lakers seven three to the last ten

ball games, beating good teams without Lebron. That game on April five, Clippers Lakers could determine who's in the playoff or who's in the play in. We'll see Lenny in Inglewood. Lenny are on Clippers side without Inmasin. Let me just tell you this. I've been hearing chatter about Tyron Lou and I can only imagine the frustration that he feels. And anybody who tries to blame

this this season on Tyrone Lew I don't know nothing about basketball. Because to put a guy who has that that sort of ability in terms of coaching and he's wonted, he's proving it on a team where he can't doesn't know who he has available to him, it's it's too much. It's just too much that these guys don't they're not showing up. I mean, I still, to be honest, I still don't understand the Russell Westbrook pick up. I don't get it. But you know this team. Did you liked it when

it happened, Lenny, Nope? I didn't. You know, you know, good word, I didn't say. I like that said. I thought that we had chemistry and I thought anything that that took away from Terrence Man was a negative. Okay, the Stars wanted him, and coach Lee wonted Russell Westbrook. Yeah, I know, and yeah, but it happened at all because we're six and eightens. We had him, and we're we're on a roll prior to that, so not knocketting Us Russell Westbrook, you know,

but you know he would do well. You got his guaranteed money. I'm just saying that for an owner like Steve Baumer, who and I made sure everybody got their money this year, there should be no reason the dude shouldn't be playing with all of the focus and the and the ferocity of a team that has something to prove and they have it. And you know, I don't. I don't know what's gonna happen, and it would be it would be a track, should said track, but it would be an interesting

into the season. If we lose to the Lakers without Lebron, that would just be something else. But I don't. I don't, like you said, auld doesn't pass nothing anymore. So it's disappointed, man, It's really disappointed because I don't see I definitely don't. I just don't see it. Man. I think that there's there's gonna be some there's got to be a shakeup. There's gotta be some sort of shakeup because you can't take two aging

all stars like Kawai and PG into the future. And we haven't it hasn't worked to this point so far, and they're not getting younger, and you know, like I said, it's gonna be interesting. See, I don't know, all right, Letty, I appreciate the phone call. Hey, there's seven games left. This team's good enough talent wise to go six and one, to go five and two, to put themselves in a very good position in the playoff and not the play in. They're still good enough.

As long as Kauai is able to return from the facial contusion. We don't know. Maybe we'll see masks Kawai again. I'm hoping he's okay. But they have enough talent even without Paul George. The guys playing up to their skill level, not consistently had moments certain players have, but sense of urgency, you know, it's almost tired at this point to even bring that up or beyond that critical mass and def Con one. There's seven games left in

the season and they got two coming up against Memphis. They got a game against the Lakers. As I mentioned, Chicago's playing much better. They'll see them Monday night Phoenix Suns, the last game of the season. We'll see how consequential that is. Who could be playing in that ball game. So it's not easy. But this team has put it together and has over the years played their best when their backs were against the wall. That's what makes

a night very disappointed though. So it wasn't a back to back, This wasn't an early afternoon game. They had a day off and it looked like they'd be able to ride some of that momentum they had with one of the best second halfs of the season against the Thunder Thursday night into this one. No d OA. They didn't have it down eight oh quick. This Clippers team has had a propensity to get off the slow starts. The problem is they used to always come back on teams always. There's been less of those

recently this season. That was their gritty identity, never out of a ball game. More times teams have come back on them this season. That's concerning. All right, Let's hear from their leader in coach Loup post game they lose one thirty one to one ten to the New Orleans Pelicans. Here was Coach Lou post game on Ballet Sports. Coach, is there any update on Kauai after he left the game in the third quarter? No update? Defensively, D'Angelo was able, or Brandan Ingram was able to kind of get to

his spots. Trey Murphy was had a career night from deep adjustment. Did you have to see defensively that you didn't that I wanted to see that I didn't. Yeah, I don't know what that means. But from a standpoint, and just I thought to start the game, they were faster than us. They got out in transition, they created mismatches in transition because the way they pushed it, we weren't able to get back and get matched. And like I said, Ingram came out and got to a spots early in the

game. Then we tried to double team in fire, which opened up Murphy to get threes, and so you just kind of picked your poison. But I thought they really came out to attack us tonight, and they did that. And then on the Offensylviania. You know, twenty turnovers for twenty eight points, there's too many, especially for a fast team like this. You can't get them a live all turnovers and expected to get back and get get match in transition. So I was a tough game for us tonight. You

know, they played well. Hats off to him and coach obviously quite struggle to nine four for sixteen and not with no PG more four. Moving with these last eight or nine games left, how do you guys gonna be able to generate points? If Kawai struggles like what he did tonight, it's gonna happen. You know, it's as part of the game. I think, just continue to get to our next actions. Don't like we get staggered at the times, like I said, trying to look for Kauai and when he

doesn't have it going. We gotta continue to run our offense. And we've been doing a pretty good job but that since January first. But tonight was one of those night. I mean, we shot fifty two percent and forty five from three, but it still didn't look good. It was a it was a nasty flow to the game. And so that happens. So back to the drawing board and like I said, stains that we can clean up,

you know, taking care of the basketball. I think, you know, getting back in transition defensively and understanding what we're doing, you know, defensively and Snaps is a tough night when both of them are off and you know, you kind of play against a team is pretty good and you struggle tyed. Do you see any parallels between the slower start from the starters tonight

and Nick until Cloma City on Thursday, this revamped starting line up. Yeah, I mean it's it's it's been tough, you know, I think starting the starting games, it's it's tough to dig yourself a hole and try to I'm out every single night, and so we gotta be better, like you said, starting games and having that mindset like we did in the last okay see game, you know, just after that first you know, six seven minutes of just having a physicality on the defensive end, I think hitting bodies,

I think offensively, learning how we want to attack, getting too the paint, making the right play, And tonight we just didn't have a lot of juice and a lot of pop. So nothing to get the scarage about. We just gotta be a little better to what did what did you see until that? Uh, the second unit the way it's constructed now it's gotten in, Like, what did you see with them compared to the last game.

No, I think just the pace. I think, you know, bones struggle a little bit the first time he came in, you know, the missed a couple of shots, had a couple turnovers early. But I liked that unit and what they give us TV and Niko bones and and you know, Mace and then Russ comes back to that group. I think it makes us faster. We got a good pace share the basketball, and so we can create different things. I think defend be too, and so tonight we just to have it, you know, either side. And so it's

nice like that. So now we got to move on and get ready for Monday. There was coach Slew after the Clippers one thirty one to one ten loss here at home to the New Orleans Pelicans. Part of the problem is you get down early with your starters, who are supposed to set that tone defensively, who are supposed to have a defensive mindset. The amount of times they've come out in games and played with that and have done that for forty eight minutes. Look, I can't think of any of this season. The

Boston game comes to mind. You look at that game Tuesday night against Okay. See the first five minutes they were fantastic. They were up eighteen to four. It's because they were swarming defensively. Guys were talking covering for each other and bringing the physicality Coach was are asking for it. You can only

do so much there. Guys got to execute. But then the problem is you get down and you have to put in players that are good offensively, but maybe the defense isn't there Forte, So there's a trade off there. Bones Thiland obviously not know is a great defender. They need him though, they need his pace, they need his shooting, is relentless attacking of the basket. Russ He's an okay defender at times. He can at times lock

a guy up too, but they need what he brings on offense. So you get down and you're trying to get back into it with offensive minded guys that aren't great defenders. Well, the clumpers are down by his many's twenty five in this one. I don't know any other way to put it. It happens, but there's seven games loot and either they're gonna figure things out

right now and all these games are playoff games down the stretch. Basically, are they be in trouble and you're go on a losing street to end the season, you can end up out of the postseason right now in the West, So yeah, big game Monday night. Clippers bulls in that one. And defensively, the Clippers have to show up defense. Last three games only give up one hundred and two points forty three percent shooting twenty seven percent from

the outside. They were much better, I said, at five of the last seven games before this one they had given up one oh five or less. No excuse for coming out this flat tonight, but it happened. Clippers take the loss, and they dropped to the five spot as Phoenix won earlier in the West. Coming up back to your phone calls. Eight six six ninety seven two five seventy eight six six ninety seven two five seventy is the

phone number. Pellin Cans tie up franchise mark with twenty one main three pointers. Third time they've done it. They went nine of eleven in the first quarter. Clippers gave up far too many open shots, and by the time they started defending some of them, it was too late. Pelicans were in rhythm. More Clipper stock next year. On m five seventy, LA Sports, George and Leonard running. You're listening to La Clippers basketball, but I'm

top Clippers to down plus the foul every game of all season long. On their official home Clippers lose one thirty one to one ten to the New Orleans Pelicans. Here from Crypto dot Com arena. I'm Adam Oslin, and this is Clippers Talk. Eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy. Eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Pelicans had thirty seven points in the first quarter. Clippers couldn't hold them under thirty every

quarter they had at least thirty one. Finished the fourth quarter with thirty two. Clippers really just never had their defense set up, and we're getting exposed on that end too many times. Guys are getting beat off the dribble, leading to a lot of open threes. It's not one guy, they just weren't connected, not exactly five guys on a string out there. Tonight one of the worst defensive performances of the season, when it looked like they were

starting to turn a corner there. But we've seen this stuff come and go, and that's why I talk about the consistency of this team in the lack there of Cameron. In La Cameron, You're on Clipper Stipe without Amassol. What's up, hey, Adam thank you for taking my car. I've been going a game since I was twelve, almost twenty years. It's the first time I'm calling in. But I just, you know, felt compelled to

call tonight just listening to everything you were saying. You're always great, just driving on from the games, but I just really was frustrated tonight with the number one the effort, and you know, I think the just a pattern of resting players throughout the year. I get it early on really being cautious about bringing our you know, our guys back, but I don't think that

you know, was handled well. And the inconsistency and a lot of what we're seeing now I think are you know, effects from just the way the rotations and the extra extra precautions kind of were handled. And and that's just kind of why the Clippers, I believe, are in the position that they're in. I mean, they could have a little bit more wiggle room. I get at the West is totally tight, but you know, really not getting that chemistry, not knowing who's gonna play every night, the guys just

don't seem cohesive. Ty Lewis, you know, doesn't know what he's gonna do. He has that pink card that he has to rely on that. You know, he says he doesn't know what you know each night, what he's got. So I just think the way that they handled it, you know, once January hit a little bit before the All Star break, I

was hold been to see things red up, missed back to backs. But outside of that, he's been playing a ton in twenty twenty three, and I can't criticize the way they've handled Kawhi Leonard with how good he's been out there. The guy's been to him near fifty fifty ninety for three months, he's been on another level. Whatever, he's been great, he's been great.

I'm saying the cohesiveness with the other guys, they seem like they don't know what to do when they're out there with him because he's not him. He's keeping them alive. It's just I think the other guys are having difficulty, you know, sitting in the rotations when he's out there. Sometimes they kind of just defer to him a little bit too much and he has to

take over. But nothing, no, not against him at all. I'm saying the way the team has handled it has affected the other guys, not the guys who've been sitting out, they've been great when they played well. I just think the lack of chemistries due to that. Typically guys have fitting very well around Kauai. I mean, he was in Toronto for one season and it just worked. It hasn't been a long learning curve. And you know, when he and Paul George are out there, I want to say

they're winning percentages around seven hundred. When they've been healthy, they've been great. There haven't been that many continuity chemistry issues. When they are healthy, they seem to figure it out pretty quickly. You would love to see them out there on the court more. They've been unlucky with injuries. There's no doubt about it. And I appreciate the phone call, Cameron. Let's go to Mark in Santa Barbara. Mark, you're on Clippers stop without Amassin Dah

Mark gone. You know. And I'm not trying to be overly critical tonight on a game like this where the Clippers lose it by twenty one and certainly don't have their best effort on the defensive end. And I'm not trying to make some long reaching conclusions about this team over one game, because this is stuff I've been telling you about all season long, and I can't avoid it when it continues to happen. And the reason if it's sounding more negative is

because there's seven games left. They're in a precarious position, and standings wise, every game is so critical. This was a big loss tonight, and the way they lost is how they've lost a lot of games this season. And I'm just not gonna sit here and tell you otherwise that everything's fine when it's not with this Clippers team, because then if they don't get to the problems land by the end of the season, you know, I'm not gonna sit there and be like, I don't know what happened. I don't know,

I don't know. No, I tried to chronicle this along the way. Can this team flip a switch? Do they have the talent to win at all? Of course they do win healthy, if they can stay healthy, if they can put the guys in the best position to succeed. But that last caller talking about continuity, well it's not on Russ. But they brought in a guy who's playing thirty minutes a night with twenty one games left. Any guy who all of a sudden is in your starting lineup with twenty

one games left, that becomes that critical to the team. There's gonna be a learning curve, and I think for the most part, Russ has played well as a Clipper. But I understand I'm getting a lot of all. They up ended their roster. They had a good thing going before the All Star break, like they were ten and four the last fourteen games or whatever it was. I've looked back at some of those games and there were some of the same problems that they have now. Not closing well enough, not

consistently bringing the same defensive mindset for forty eight minutes. You just don't know what you're getting quarter to quarter, possession to possession with this team. It's been baffling at times because they do have so many vets, because they have guys that have been there to see a possession like we saw at the end of the game with Kauai and Marcus Morris and that miscommunication on Tuesday night perplexing. Would never have expected that, but they bounced back from that. Today

they suffer a tough one. They gotta bounce back again on Monday. This team has been resilient in the two one three era. You have to say that. You gotta admit that when the Chips are down, they seem to be at their best. We're hoping for more of that to come. Eight six six Night seven two five seventy will take a quick time out here. Clippers lose one thirty one to one to the New Orleans Pelicans here at Crypto dot com arena. I'm out of Oslin listening to the Clippers stock here on

five seventy sports. Who was blocked by George La Clippers basketball? He is a one man record the defensive end on the home of your La. Clippers has got to find defensive flow if they lose one thirty one to one ten here at home to the Pelicans. They just had it over the last week.

They were playing much better. The practices help them. The communication the five guys on a string that we saw somehow went by the wayside tonight to the Pelicans as they give up twenty one main three pointers that ties a franchise record for New Orleans and they win this ball game by twenty one points. Let's go to before we get out of here, we got Greg and Newport Beach, Greg Yaren Cliver, stop with that. I'm awesome, Greg, what's good? Come on, Greg, come on, Greg? Do me

like this? Man. I just check with the producer. She said you were there and ready. You know what, Greg? Hey, what's up? Man? Adam? Listen? Listen, broday you hear me? I can hear you. They parted you up now? All right? All right, I'm not on my phone. It's somebody else's phone. But anyway, man, listen. I was at the game to night. Man, I don't know what's going on. Bro. It's like, like you said, we were playing good for the last couple of weeks. We hit that spot

against Okay see on Tuesday night. Then we bounced back and looked day behind on Thursday night. Then we talk about tonight and Luis looked, you know, all discombobulated. Does this is not exemplified Clippers basketball the twenty two twenty three season though. Up and down. That's where it's been all year. It is, Adam, But you know what, man, to me tonight, it seemed like why in the first half was just trying to do too much, man, and he just didn't have it tonight. Man, in

the first half, he couldn't buy a shot. He's dribbling too much. Had the ball in his head too much and the defense was given up all the three. Greg, I think Kawhi knew if he doesn't get it going, they're losing this game. He's got to find a heater or they're losing this game. And it was understandable for him to have a down game after going thirteen or fifteen Thursday fifteen. Man, my man missed two shots only it's crazy night. Man, Hey, Chicago, that's gonna be a tough

game on Monday. Man, that's not no gimme no. I've seen Zach Lavine put up forty five in this building before against the Clippers. It's gonna be a good one. I appreciate the phone call. Hope to see you here, Greg, Mike and Breya Mike hearing Clippers stope without I'm Awsolin. How you doing that, Adam? I'm Mike, very very discouraging night. Again. I just watched ty Lou and he just looks defleted, defeated, you know, I mean he's deflated and defeated. I heard both that.

Yeah, like the coach, Lou bounces back. I'm not worried about it. It's a bad loss. Coach was gonna have a game plan set for Monday night, So you think there's anything to these rumors about him leaving, Mike. I saw who the rumor was from on Twitter. It wasn't Chris Haynes, it wasn't Adrian Ward Snarowski, it wasn't one of the big hitters, it wasn't Sham Sharania. I'm not thinking about that. I'm not putting much into that. There's seven games left. We're talking about Monday night.

But I appreciate the phone called Mike. I will say this, Look, I gotta tell you the truth. Clipper Nation and seeing that Marcus Morris Senior had to disable his Instagram comments, I don't like that. I know he's been taken incoming, but you guys are better than that. You're above that. I know he hasn't played well. Help a guy get out of a

slump by cheering him on so he can get his confidence back. But I don't like seeing that he had to disable his Instagram comments because I'm guessing it's just a cess pool of negativity right there, right now there, So Clipper Nation try to be above it. Someone who's always above it, big brother Jake Warner. Positive moments with the fake philosopher. Philosophers are segment, Big Bro aw we doing. We're good over here. Despite what happened tonight.

I gotta keep everybody focused, Okay, please do all right. Well, every story has an end, but in life, every ending is just a new beginning. Okay, Well this game ended tonight, new beginning Monday night. See you already see where I'm going to wash rents and not repeat, not exactly. Tomorrow is a new day. Monday night is a new day. And we've seen this Clippers team time and time again play their best basketball. When their backstor against the wall, they come out swinging. That's what

we're hoping to see against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. Thank you, Big Bro. Wise words as always anytime, anytime, Clibernation appreciates you. Tip time Monday Night is at seven thirty. We'll have Clippers count down four. You're starting at six thirty before we get out of here. I do want to thank the Clippers organization. Noah Eagle, Brian Seaman, Ralph Lawler, big Brother, Jake Warrener our head engineer here, the fake philosopher, even

though I mean his fake is like it's like a lanes from Seinfeld. It's a pretty good fake. Apparently, spend some knowledge. Thanks to Kay Newton, our producer, back into Bank, Dennis Agastino, our statistician to the stars, start being Noah Eagle until Monday night with their pregame show starting at six thirty Clippers Bulls, I'm at a Maslin.
