Episode description

Ordained minister, Dr. Dennis Hall, reviews some of the commonly misplaced assumptions about what is in the Bible. He highlights the phrase, “God helps those who help themselves.” Dr. Hall demonstrates how this phrase is a blatant contradiction to everything that Scripture teaches. The focus then turns to the phrase, “God never gives you more than you can handle.” It is pointed out that this phrase appears nowhere in the Bible and seems to be taken from 1 Corinthians 10 – 13, which says that God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. Dr. Hall then turns his attention to what is known as the prosperity gospel movement that includes big-name explicit proponents like TD Jakes, Joel Osteen, and Joyce Meyer. He analyzes the main beliefs in the prosperity gospel movement and demonstrates why it should be considered heresy. The podcast concludes by pointing out that prosperity theology preachers who focus solely on preparing people for their best life now can do little to prepare them for eternity.
