Bees Will Become Extinct By 2035
Episode description
Since 2007, bee populations have been declining at a rate of about 2% each year. In the United States alone, commercial beekeepers have lost more than 1.2 million beehives since 2015. Now, only 36% of the population of honeybees remain, and experts estimate that bees will become extinct by 2035 if we don't change our habits.
The decline in bee populations is an alarming issue that is quickly becoming global. Scientists are unanimous in their warnings about the cascading ecological impacts, but the public at large remains largely unaware or apathetic.
If you care about biodiversity, food security, climate change, agriculture, or anything with the prefix "eco" then you should really care about bees.
But if not enough people do something soon, we could lose bees for good; and along with them, an essential part of our own humanity.
