Episode description
Everything changed with Jesus.
In this sermon, Pastor Jerimy Kanaday kicks continues our Everything Changed series with an unpacking of the story of the Mary Magdalene and shares encouragement for those feeling tormented, traumatized, and tired.
Key Scripture: Luke 8:1-3 & John 20:11-18
The ministry of Jesus was and is both show and tell.
We will be influenced by the Holy Spirit or evil spirits, there is no neutral ground.
Practical Aspects of Mary Magdalene:
- Mary was from the town of Magdala
- Magdala was a fishing village near Capernaum
- Mary, more than likely, was connected to the fishing industry in some way
- Mary had financial means to be able to support Jesus’ ministry
Mary Magdalene represents people who find themselves:
- Tormented - by evil spirits
- Traumatized - by things done to them by others, things done to themselves or things experienced that have caused unbearable pain and injury
- Tired - by life or by carrying things they were never designed to carry
Key Thought: The healing that Jesus offers and provides is not just for our physical bodies but is also for our souls which includes our mind, will and emotions.
For the Tormented - Authority and Power
5 Ways Evil Spirits Can Have Access To Our Lives:
- Habitual sin
- Sexual sin
- Family agreements
- Heresy or false teaching
- Trauma
Evil spirits must be cast out not counseled.
For the Traumatized - A Therapist and Healer
The Holy Spirit is the best therapist and He is always taking appointments.
For the Tired - Rest and Rhythms
Choosing rest is choosing to radically defy our perceived need to produce, accomplish and achieve significance outside of simply being loved by God.
