Welcome to the Cheeky Olympic Armchair Expert Series, where we are diving deep into the events we are most excited about for the upcoming Olympics and bringing you on the journey in the lead up to Paris. Hello Phoebe!
We're kickstarting our Olympic coverage with our armchair, our cheeky armchair expert series.
that a word? Mouthful. It's starting to ring a
It's taken me a little bit. we're obviously so excited about the Olympics, but we want all of you to to be as well. And we thought like the reason as to why people often aren't that excited about things or don't get around them is because they don't know enough about it. So we thought this would be a really good little bridging the gap between, being into running and becoming athletics
But it's something we've really noticed is there's been this massive running boom, which is amazing, which is so exciting. So many people falling in love with running, but that hasn't yet translated to a love for athletics. And I think that's something that was very relatable to us because we've loved running for a long time, but only recent, like recently have really gotten interested in, the athletics and following the more elite side of it.
I think it's just it's a very inaccessible sport if you don't know who the people are, what the events are, what they mean. it's not just like on TV at normal hours that you would sit down and watch and there's not like a consistent competition.
we thought a lot about, the Matildas and how during the world cup, one of those most incredible phenomenon, which is that the whole country got behind these athletes because there was this culture of like, Everyone was in on it and anyone could talk about it. And we want to try and bring that same, connection to athletics.
Yeah. It's breaking it down. So the athletes aren't just athletes, like they're humans first. And I feel like, with a bit of an explanation about them and them almost seeming a little bit more relatable means that you like, want to
means that you, like, want to get behind. Yeah, so
Yeah, exactly.
definitely aren't J Experts.
Yeah, so we are, we're definitely armchair experts. We aren't
but, yeah, we
but yeah, we thought we'd give you a bit of a breakdown. We're going to chat about what makes the event so exciting. And like maybe a bit of a history around it and, why we are wanting to watch it and why we think that you guys should want to watch it
as well. So, we're actually only going to record episodes for the events that we're really
we're really excited about. Yeah, well, for Donna Franklin, you've delved into the stories
guess because we can, because we said, so yeah, we'll, we'll, we'll talk about the events that are most excited about and we'll really, delve into the stories behind the Aussie Olympians. And so you'll know. Who's going to be representing us, what is their background, what kind of form are they in, what is looking likely in terms of their performances at the Olympics.
But we'll also preview some of the other ones to watch or some of the key players who we think are like strong metal chances or who are going to put on an exciting
key players who we think are, like, strong metal chances. We've got to put on an exciting performance. We've
we have, interviewed Jess Hull, who is the Australian record holder for the 1500 meters and a legit medal chance for the 1500 meters, which I just don't think we've ever had. An athlete in the 1500 meters.
No, I would say she's our best middle chance for a track race. Yeah, for intra on track. Yes. Yeah.
and Sinead Diver, who is our, marathon record holder. So we'll make our predictions, but we also want to hear your predictions. So after each episode, we're going to jump on our Strava group and we'll post a summary of kind of our predictions or our thoughts on that event. We want you to jump on, join in the conversation.
we want to know who, uh, who's your favourite and why. Yeah. Um, and get a little bit of healthy competition within there. Cheeky
community. That's it! Something we need more of.
so we hope you love this series.
Our first cheeky Olympic armchair expert series episode, which will be on
The Marathon. Women's Marathon. No. Um, which will be on the Women's 1500. I can't do it. Uh,
