Thanks a lot. I thought so. Hey, I'm Peter Kafka. I am a journalist who covers tech and media and the way those two things interact. For years, I had a podcast called Recode Media where I covered all the ways the internet and tech were radically transforming media and how new ideas and new companies and new creators were emerging. That meant I talked to people like Adam Osary, he's the CEO of Instagram.
The biggest mistake I think we made as a company was a long time ago not fully embracing our responsibility early enough to try to understand negative outcomes. And I talked to compelling creative talents like Steven Soderberg and Bob Burnham. The danger is not that we're going to treat the internet like it's real. The danger is that we're treating the real world like it's the internet. And I talked to a ton of journalists and experts who could help put everything in context.
So we took a break and now we're back with Channels. Channels is a show about the stuff I want to know more about and I think you do too. Who's making that new movie or start up or streaming a service? What's going to make that work or not work? Who's going to make money from all this? And how does all this change the stuff we read and watch and listen to? Here's another way to think about it.
We all spend our lives looking at screens and this podcast is about how the stuff on your screens got there and what's coming next. Follow Channels, Peter Kafka, wherever you listen and check out my first episode on September 11th, it's David Remnick, the New Yorker's legendary editor-in-chief. See you soon.
