¶ Intro / Opening
Music. What's up, JFW family? Welcome back to the Channel 23 Podcast, Episode 157.
¶ Welcome Back, JFW Family
The purpose of this podcast is to reach out and touch the fleet, to engage and inform everyone with all things JFW. Welcome to the studio, Jim White, Brother Dave White, and Super Dave Welding. Good morning, man. Hi, everybody. Hi, everybody. Morning, Jim. Dave. Dave, your wedding. Welcome back, Jim. Thank you. Appreciate it. That was really weird to have a podcast to listen to on the way home that I didn't hear. Yeah. I didn't know what was going to be said. I didn't know what was going on.
I'll get to that in my shout outs. But man, what a good day. What a great morning to say the pledge. What do you think, guys? Absolutely. Do we know why it's such a great day? Well, it is a great day because President Trump won the election, right? So that's good for our beliefs and what we want for the country.
Unfortunately, Colorado is still a blue state. but hey we win some we lose some yeah you know we're not in here crying we're in here celebrating so absolutely yeah yeah and trump might not have been good for the individual person but he's going to be good for the country yes and that's important right now like the way everything was going i mean i don't really vocalize this stuff but i'm sure just as the democrats feel like the fear they
have of trump being in office that's how we feel about kamala you know what i mean and it's just it's just interesting because i know how you guys feel but then i see you know i have some you know friends on the left on my facebook and like i see how they feel and it's just like i don't understand how they could feel that way but it's all your views and your your paradigm and you know the way you see things and you know it's just weird how the blinders get put on no matter
what side you're on you know it's like oops not gonna look at that right so right yep and i'm not digging on the democrats my mom's a democrat you know what i mean so i love you ma yeah i think there's, radicals on both sides absolutely the extreme that's the extremist on either side that yeah either way because yeah i mean i i see some stuff on facebook from you know some republicans i'm just like wow yeah that's that's crazy you're you're making us look bad yeah that's what helps
But that's what this pledge is about because it brings us together, Americans. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, individual, with liberty and justice for all. All right. Father God, we thank you for the opportunity to go out and do some trucking today. We pray for the safety of our fleet, all of their families, and all the other families and individuals we come across on the road today.
We pray for patience in making good, safe decisions. We pray to be accident-free, and that we all make it back to the comforts of our homes this evening. We pray for healing and 100% recovery for all of our family members that are ill. No matter what, we trust you, God, and it's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Amen. As a reminder, anything you hear on today's podcast is not the opinion of JFW. It's just the expressed opinion of the men in this room.
Episode 156 did pretty good, 289 downloads. we're at 84.1 thousand total downloads and we have 647 followers nice yeah great it's time for the dad joke challenge who would like to go first no segue there because i screwed it up. I'll go first it's just one it's short sweet i've told it a couple times already two potatoes are standing on the corner, how can you tell which one is the prostitute? I don't know. The one with the sticker that says Idaho. Ah, Idaho.
Hey, did you hear about the guy that goes into the psychiatrist's office wearing nothing but saran wrap? Nope. And the doctor says, I can clearly see your nuts. Oh, that's funny. Let's go soup, So I've got a pretty good story for you. My grandfather is full of really exciting stories from when he was a young man. The other day, he was telling me about the time he went hunting tigers in the jungles of Asia.
And he says, I've spent the whole week following their trail, just about giving up on tracking them. When all of a sudden, a huge Bengal tiger leapt out at me.
¶ Lighthearted Jokes and Stories
He let out a ferocious roaring kid you won't believe it but I soiled myself he said, of course I believe you grandpa I'd have soiled myself too no you don't understand go get me some toilet paper right now. Oh man that's funny did you guys go ahead no no No, you're ready. I messed up another segue. No, it's okay. I had one more one here. Do you know how to tell the difference between a male chromosome and a female chromosome? Who? Pull down their genes.
Speaking of females, I might get some hate for this one because I see a lot of hate where I got it from on Facebook.
¶ A New Addition to the Team
But why do they pronounce tamales, tamales, and females as females instead of famales?
I don't know why that's a good question, did you guys hear about the man got hit by a rental car by a what car rental no said it hurts, man are these hunting blind jokes or what no i went to the beekeeper the other day to get 12 bees he counted and gave me 13 i said sir you gave me an extra he said that's a freebie, and i got one other one jim i've told you i have i pray now i used to pronounce it tinnitus but when i went to the ear audio specialist they say tinnitus i don't know which one
it is but it was really bad the other day when i came back from hunting because i shot without hearing protection in a blind that was i figured my muzzle was outside it was going to be fine but anyway my ears have been ringing so i called the tinnitus helpline but it just kept ringing.
Yep all right new employees i am super excited about this one this person is just a super human being and that is danielle weaver she was on the podcast if y'all don't know this is jim's daughter dave's niece she will be our new benefits coordinator she's going to help run our healthcare side of things and take it off Joanne's plate welcome Danielle Weaver yeah welcome Danielle, I think that's awesome. If you guys don't know, Danielle is in the medical field,
and, man, what better person can we have picked? Nobody. Hopefully she can weed through it. I know she had a lot of questions about it. She's got some catch-up to do to get up to speed with what we're doing. And, again, it's back to the health care season for JFW, and we're just trying to muddle through it. I don't know if we mentioned on the last podcast, but they started with a 39% increase this year. and Dave basically told them that won't even, that's not even an option.
Don't come to the building. Yeah, don't bother. And I think they poof automatically or lowered it to a 29%. Man, 10%. Whose pocket does that go in? Right, right. And then they're whittling on it. So I guess stay tuned like every year. It would be just nice at one point to just have a clear picture. Maybe you have a little bit of an increase or, you know, a deduction. All these years, we've never gotten a deduction, right? It would just be nice to, and I'm not saying there's dishonesty going on,
right? I don't want to accuse anybody of that.
¶ Navigating Healthcare Challenges
But when you could just shave 10% off of something, like it would just be nice for somebody to walk in here and give us the actual bottom line. Right. No bullshit. Just here's the price. This is the lowest. No haggle. Like this is it, you know? So if they could just, somebody said, oh, well, I guess... We don't really need that 10%. Well, why not just do that from the beginning?
Right. When I'm shopping, I'm sorry, Jim, when I'm shopping and I get a price and I go somewhere and I get a lower price and then the other place is like, will price match that? Nah, you've lost your opportunity. You could have just gave me that price and we would have had the deal closed. I think that's the other thing, Jim, that bothers all of us. And you've been part of it over the last few years is they just come in with that and expect us to pay that. Right.
But where's my options? At least come in and go, hey, you guys had a huge increase, but we can control this by A, B, C, and D. Here's some other products. Here's some options. Nope, it's okay. Here's this. And the other thing that seems to be the temperament is they just expect us as owners or our company here to pass it on to the employees. That seems to be a standard business model. I don't mean to interrupt you. I think so many companies just do that, Jim. Yeah.
And, and we don't, you know, we can't, how is that fair to you? And if we don't fight for you, who, who is, because you guys don't have a say in it and we have a small say in it. I mean, we, you know, we raise a deductible out of pocket, we go with somebody else. Listen, you know, Jam, honestly, what's kind of been explained to us now is we've changed insurance companies enough.
We kind of have like a target on our back. We look like somebody with bad credit because we've continually switched, trying to get the best insurance for our people, and it's put a target on our back. Well, who's told us that? The people trying to sell us insurance for 39% more? Yeah. I bet the guy that's not trying to get the 39%, he doesn't think there's a target on our back. Yeah. So, anyway. Yeah, we're looking forward to it. Hopefully, I don't know if anybody can help.
So is she just going to work remote or is she coming to the office? Probably going to do a little bit of both. A lot of it will be remote. She's off on Thursdays and Fridays or Fridays mostly. Gotcha. And she's all the way up in Greeley, so it doesn't really make sense. Got it. All right, cool.
¶ Celebrating Anniversaries and Birthdays
Celebrations. We got anniversaries. Chris Moore and Victor Saucedo hit one year today. Nice. Congratulations, guys. Did you guys see that picture of Victor Saucedo going around? I didn't. Oh, I did. I did. I did. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I missed it. What is it, Jim? Just the guys that go out of town, they Photoshopped. I think it was Carlos Meza Photoshopped a head on a girl's body. It's just funny. God was funny. Victor looks like he's got a nice rear.
Wow. It was a really good job. And then Manny Velasquez, four years today as well. Happy anniversary, Manny. We miss you. Happy anniversary. Yep. Birthdays, Malcolm Nota, he had a birthday this past Monday. Joshua Sanchez has a birthday today. And Paco, old man Nahara. Old man. Has a birthday this Friday. Happy birthday, Pax. Happy birthday. Yep, happy birthday, guys. Family birthday celebrations, Rudy Ovalle's son, Alessio, turned one yesterday.
Oh, what a great birthday. Yeah. And this is crazy. Erica White, everyone knows Erica, Jim's daughter, also Dave's niece. Jason Gammage's wife, Daisy, and my sister, Ray Backus, they all have birthdays today. Wow. Nice. Yep. And then Dustin Currier's daughter, Madison, she turns 13 this Saturday. Happy birthday, everybody. Happy birthday, Erica. Yeah. Yep. Let's see. If I say happy birthday to Erica, does that mean I don't need to text her? Yep.
I better text her. Does she listen to the podcast? Because if she does, you don't. If she doesn't, you better throw her a text. Yeah, I doubt she. Yeah, you should. I know she's listened to some, right? I have to text her, Dave, or call her would be about it. I'm going to do it right now.
¶ Shout Outs and Community Support
Came across my calendar reminder earlier, but I was driving in. Joanne got a thank you card or text from Dan Hawk. It said, good evening. Thank you so much for the get well box. Love the card. I'm very happy to have, I'm very happy to not have to wear a cone, winky face. Radiation treatments are underway and so far all is good except for walking like a cowboy. I appreciate you guys thinking of me. He is the cowboy too. The book. Right. Yeah. You remember that Super Dave? Yeah.
Is the cone reference just about a dog? I think so. Okay. All right. I want to know what behind the scenes- So he can't lick himself? Yeah. Yeah. Good old Dan Hawk dry. Well, that's right. That's out in the open now, Jim. Yep. Rip that Band-Aid off. Hey, walking like a cowboy. I mean, there's only a couple of things that can happen to make you walk like that. Right. And if you ain't on a horse, well, there you go. Exactly.
All right. Shout outs. Good luck, Dan, though. Yeah. I'm going to mention that. And we're praying for you. Yep. Yep. Yep. I love this. Got a message while I was out hunting, and it took me a little while to get back from this guy. Brother Dave, I don't know if you ever talked to him, but when we first started selling trucks, I think he might have been looking for a hood. I went back- Interesting.
Went back in our messages and looked, but anyway- I read this, and it didn't ring a bell, so I don't know. Well, it was a long time ago and a lot of trucks ago. Mm-hmm. So, Sean Carroll from J&J Handy Trucking out of Penrose, Colorado wrote, Good morning. I just wanted to say I really enjoy your podcast. We own a family trucking company down here in Penrose.
¶ Election Results and Reactions
We run 10 N-Dumps and I've been using your podcast as a guide to help with our safety program. Tell Bear, this area down here is prime Turkey area, especially along 115. If you guys ever need anything while you're down this way, holler. We have a shop located in Penrose right off of 115. Or if the guys need a place to sit or work on something, the doors are open. How cool is that? Isn't that awesome?
Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. I have to, you know, have to reciprocate, except it's, it's later than his offer, but you know, anytime you guys are up here and need some, absolutely. We're, we're here to, we talk about on the podcast. We're here to help each other.
We're, we're a trucking community. yeah those are our brothers for sure yeah i asked him i said so how did you hear about the podcast he's like oh well i see your trucks and i saw one of the the stickers on the tailgate gotcha so that very cool if if we only and i know there's been others but if we only reached him with that tailgate sticker it was a win it was a win yeah oh absolutely so yeah yeah just to hear that like when this guy says if you ever need a place to sit or work on something
the door like i could just imagine pulling up and being like hey i'm with jfw and this guy's like right we got you what What do you need? Yeah, what do you need? Just that hospitality. So thanks so much, Sean. Yeah, it gives you goosebumps. It does, yeah. The first thing that came to my mind was Richard Garule, who used to work here and moved back to the Penrose area, or Canyon City, I thought.
But it kind of made me think if somehow he was connected to Richard and that's how it was put together. But off the tailgate stickers, that's awesome. That's the purpose of him, right? I want to give a shout out to Tenny Haney for just doing a really nice job on the radio.
When he answers a certain call and it's just he's just very concise and to the point and has good answers he asked the right questions and this was the guy that was just dropping f-bombs on the family channel like his second week he's like you know there was there was none of that so yeah it was just really cool to hear him yesterday just like handling it he is and tenny's an awesome young man he's got a lot of promise and i i sure i just see him and
it puts a smile on my face you know him and ricky out there i think they're a great team great team yeah he makes me laugh in the morning he walks into that shop like he literally just crawled out of bed right right his hair is all right like he just put his feet on the floor yeah you know stepping out of his bed and i'm like jesus teddy and it's really funny when he when he's late and it's usually not late by that much,
but he doesn't, he doesn't make an excuse, nothing like, how are you doing this morning? I'm late. I mean, yesterday when he walked in, he had like a bag of Ruffles and a Pepsi or something. That's going to be a bad day. I want to give a shout out to Dustin for helping me pull some videos for the CMCA yesterday. You know, coming back yesterday to 3,500 plus emails.
I mean, a lot of them are reports, but trying to sort through them and do all this stuff and just feeling behind and having anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. And then Jim walks up and it's like, I got a mission for you. And it's just like, oh, great. I will get it done. And to be able to turn around to Dustin Abb and help out with that, that was good. Thanks, Dustin.
Yep. big shout out for JR for covering for me last week like I said it was nice to you know be gone and not have the stress of are we going to do a podcast or not and for JR to step up was really cool and to be able to hear that and he did a really nice job I got to listen to it on the way home I was a little disappointed in the beginning that he didn't do his you know good morning eye boogers and Spanish greeting he does every day and you know I thought that would definitely be
a little bit more spice you know but talking to him he's like yeah that was part of me feeling like he was a little shaking yeah he's like that i was my nervousness i didn't get to do everything i wanted so spotlight was on him but yeah it did great listen it takes you know this is my 155th time or six time doing it you know that was his first time and i thought he did an amazing job so great job jayra thank you so much and it was it was a pretty long podcast it was two
hours and 20 i saw that i was like oh well and we had we had like nothing really to start with you know what i mean there wasn't a lot on the outline that we were a little light yeah and we were we filled in well tell you sometimes it works that way it does dave yeah well the outline keeps you guys in line that's why it keeps it shorty big shout out to mikey peterson for the hunting trip we went on as always he was a class act when it comes to hospitality
and being helpful and and really a big shout out because. You know, some of you guys heard the hunting story, but Mikey hid, you know, Mikey hid in the sagebrush waiting for me to take a shot. So he didn't spook the deer that I was calling for. Yeah. That's awesome. Which is pretty badass. So, you know, I didn't realize, I thought he was in a blind with a heater on and, you know, he was outside freezing his, his ass off. You know what I mean? Not true. He was outside. No, he.
He said he was cold, Jim. Yeah. Really? My ass is freezing. My hands are cold. The only thing he likes to be cold is his feet. Yeah. Everything else, he, yeah, he, he was cold. Okay. Did he have shorts on or long pants? No, he had long pants, but one of his legs fell asleep. Yeah, it was, it was crazy. So thank you, Mikey. Too funny. That's awesome. Casey wants to give a shout out to John Jordan for keeping his chains tight from Denver West. Nice.
Yep. Nice. Wow. I am voice texting Armando for the last five minutes. Armando has a hospital, excuse me, a shout out here. Let me get rid of this. Holy cow. One second here. Oh, silent time. We can't go silent. Dave, do you have another joke? No. Oh, man. All right. How come you can't hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom? The pee is silent. Right. There you go. Bada boom. So we have this, Jackie and I take the dogs on a walk every weekend and we take them on the same route.
We go up to this park and take them off the leash, let them run, then go up to the lake, right? Take them swimming if it's a nice day. They like to swim. And there's a house we walk by with a blackboard hanging off the mailbox, just a small chalkboard on chains. And one of the kids in the house writes a joke on the blackboard and you see the joke on the one side. And then when you walk past the mailbox, you got to turn around and read the answer on the other side. That's cool.
And that was the joke this last weekend. And it's cute. Every single weekend, it's something new. Nice. Yeah. All right. I'm back in action. Armando Duvall. Good morning, Jam. I want to give a shout out to Ray for showing me how to do the fifth wheel blocks so I can hook up to the bulk trailer. So Ray's always super helpful. I think he's got another. Rico Christensen. Hey, Jam, I want to give a couple shout outs.
The first one to Rick Colleen for showing myself and Andrew in 002 how to load in Utah. Secondly, UJR, Scooby, and Dustin Romero for helping me a couple weeks ago when I was disconnecting from one trailer to another.
And then mike cisneros good morning jam on your podcast my podcast how about on the podcast today can you give a couple shout outs first one is to mike truck 0024 for going out of his way helping me with a slow leak on one of my drive tires he drove out of his way and meeting me at pitch 28 to lend his air hose and the second one is to ricky that guy's attitude is always positive, He came out, changed the blowout I had on 85, was done quick so I could go on
with my job. The guys worked very hard. Nice. That's some good ones. Yeah. Any other shout outs, guys? Go ahead, Dave. Yeah. No, I just want to jump in there. Everybody that's on that Utah run so far, man, just good job. They're just getting it done and getting it figured out and we're nailing it. I mean, we've had a few hiccups, learning curve here and there and off we go. And I just think it's going well. You know, I mean, we're right in the middle of it right now.
We've got trucks going both directions and they're chained up and we're plugging along. So good job, everybody. Yeah, mine's kind of along the same lines, Dave. And, you know, I don't know how many times I've said it about hitting the gate the one time and we go through it 10,000 times and all that kind of stuff.
And we just talked the other day about, you know, you take an algebra test and you get 90% on it and you miss the 10 questions and you just concentrate on the 10 questions because that's what you did wrong. But you don't celebrate those other 90 you got right.
And you know the morning when we walked in I just wanted to mention that you know it it I took a second and I just soaked it in and not this morning it's a slow morning here but everybody's doing their thing you know jam was back you know even when jam was gone JR's in there and and you're talking about the guys doing the Redmond run and you know the way the snow removal went over yesterday and all the techs back and forth and you know
I have to say that I think I realized that we have one of the best teams we have ever had. They understand the vision. They live the core values. They run it with action because they get us all there. And I just wanted to tell everybody, thank you. Yeah, awesome. Good stuff. Great. Anybody else? Sounds like a big no. All right. Well, let's get this out of the way. Anybody want to discuss the election results? What election?
Well, I just thought, I mean, obviously we talked about Trump winning and Colorado being blue. Gabe Evans didn't fare so well, but Brother Dave, you said they're still counting ballots and he still has a chance. He said that. He said that. So, I mean, there's still, I guess they haven't finished counting all the ballots up in Weld County and Adams County. And those are his two areas. Caraveo doesn't carry any weight up there. You know what I mean?
And Weld County, they're on their own time. They ain't in a rush for nobody. Exactly. So he, he says there's still a chance. Wow. I'm hopeful. That would be crazy. If, if Colorado could swing that seat, you know, and it's, it's so funny because when you look at this stuff, it's always a bigger picture. It's not just that race. It's that race in conjunction with all the others. So we can help at the federal level swing the seats in the house and the Senate,
you know, and that's. It's a chess game. It is. It is, and I get caught up in just that race, not realizing, wait a minute, it's a bigger picture. Sure. I'm looking at my piece of pizza, not the whole pie, right? We talk about that all the time. So, yeah. Good news. Prop 127 was voted no. That was a mountain lion. And I think the mountain lion walking around Boulder had something to do with those. Right. That probably swayed some votes out there. Like, oh, wow, these mountain lions
could come to town. Maybe we should be able to hunt them. You know what was pretty impactful? And I didn't discuss it with any of you guys. About a week and a half ago, we got a mailer. Did you get a mailer with the picture of the little girl that was attacked by a mountain lion? You know, I was out. She had lost her eye. And I mean, she was, she was pretty damaged by it and she survived, but she's pretty damaged. And they're, those are one of the few animals that will hunt us.
Oh yeah. Right. A lady was killed and disappeared up in Idaho Springs. Yeah. So I mean, 10, 12 years ago. I don't. Yeah. It has to be up a tree so quick. Right. Just hanging out up there. Yeah. Yeah. Those things are powerful, strong. Silent. I've showed you all the pictures of, I mean, I love mountain lion. You know what I mean? I think we should hunt them. But to me, they're like one of the coolest creatures out there.
Like they will come down. Like I showed you the picture of this mountain lion upside down on a tree. Just, they will snatch you up. Yeah. Just hanging there waiting. Yeah. My whole thing is let DPW do their job. These guys are trained. They're educated. The public is not. Right. You know? Yep. Unfortunately, Proposition KK, that was the, I think it's a 6.5% excise tax on ammo and guns.
¶ Hunting and Wildlife Discussions
That did get voted in. So that's going to hurt gun stores here in Colorado. Yeah. You know, and the economy, people are already talking about, I'm going to go to Wyoming. I'm going to go to Nebraska, you know? Right. Yeah. I would say just due to Colorado, Cheyenne's economy just has to be continuing to boom year over year over year. It's not just, let's go up there and get some fireworks for the four. Yeah. Right? I mean, it's- Cheyenne loves their neighbors to the south.
Right. Yeah. I mean, if I was Cabela's, I would be like, hmm, what would be a good place for a store? Cheyenne. Yep. I mean, could they get any closer to the border? Like if they just literally put one on the other side of the border, that store would just- Absolutely. Yeah, it's mind-boggling. Yeah. Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to say the same thing, Dave, that I, that's just where everybody will go.
I mean, tons of businesses are moving up there. Yeah, it hasn't helped Colorado at all, where you just, everybody just keeps crushing us. Yeah. Yeah. I think Yasmin Navarro though won. Oh, good. Yeah. So that'll help our education, education of our kids. Yep. Excellent. I was a little disappointed. It doesn't look like the choice school option passed. Mm. It didn't go through and that would have, I'm worried that's what that's going to do to charter schools.
Mm-hmm. It could be really, really hard on charter schools. And I, I think that's something else maybe a lot of people weren't educated on. I wasn't. So it was, that was a tough one. And we needed to vote for that to keep charter school. What it is, is your option for where you can send kids to school instead of just your district, you can send them anywhere. And yeah, that part's, yeah, I guess we'll see how that pans out. But I spoke to Yasmin quite a bit about that and she's like,
yeah, that should be a definite yes on your voter ballot. Wow. And then I didn't finish looking everything up in Denver. I know the slaughterhouse ban did not pass. Okay. So that, that, those families and $800 million worth of, of income that brings to Denver, Colorado, won't go anywhere.
¶ Reflections on Community and Politics
It's safe. That was a lamb. Yes. Yeah. The lamb slaughterhouse, right. Right over here off I-70 in Washington. It's literally up the street from I-70, been there for 70 years. They interviewed a woman that's worked there for 30 years. And she's like, I had this company from California come interview me and tell me how bad this place was. She goes, I'm second generation. The house I live in, the job I have, the vehicle I own, the stock I have my money wrapped up in is all because of this place.
I love this place. This is a great place to work. It's a great business. We have a Temple Grandin deal set up for all the cow or all the lambs. She came in and set it up. So it's kinder to the animals.
She goes, we're, we're as good as we can be as good as it can get right can't get better can't get better and it wasn't good enough jam eat more lamb yep eat more lamb am i gonna eat more lamb i don't know i'll eat deer though right i haven't had lamb in a long time lamb chops that was a big thing it was a big thing yeah super we used to have lamb chops when i was growing up yeah my grandma she was big on lamb chops yeah same with my mom,
I've never really had any Janet loves them I know Dave we looked at that the one restaurant we were going to go to for a birthday had them good stuff anything more in the election guys. I just can't wait. You know, I mean, I know, I know Colorado didn't vote Trump, but honestly, when I kind of looked at the numbers, it looked like it was a million three for Harris and Trump was a million like 98. So that just meant about 250,000 people was, was the difference.
Now, are those people in Weld County already counted? Yes. They are. Well, I assume, I don't know, Jim, that's a really good question. Yeah, how they're not counted for the state, but they're counted for the- Maybe CD8 is different in the way they account for all their votes. But I understand what you're asking. Yeah. I don't know. Could that change? How could Weld County count for a president and not- Well, even if they count
it, I don't think it matters because the electoral votes. So they can just call it. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, it doesn't matter what they count. Even if Weld County won- I thought you were asking, the popular vote is what I'm talking about. Yeah. Right? I was just shocked it was that close. It's only a difference of about 250,000 people. That's not really a lot in a state as big as we are. That's not a lot of people. I think you could sway that vote, I guess, is my thought.
But thanks, everybody, for putting up with us and listening to us and all that kind of stuff, all our opinions about the election and stuff. And if you went out and voted, thank you very much. No matter who you voted for, thank you for voting. It counts. Now there is a rumor going around JFW. That's in my closing thoughts, Jim. Is it? Yeah. If that's what you're talking about, what I told you about race guy. No. Oh, no. No, this was about you.
Oh, no. The rumor was that Dave Wright said after this election, he's done with politics. Done with politics. Oh, man. If that's what I said, it's not like I'm done.
There was nothing more i could do you know what i mean for this election like done i think he did say that last week but i think that was yeah like you're saying for this election because you cleared out your browser and all the other stuff and can't do anymore man yeah you can't my email has dwindled so low it's so nice like i was to the point i you know and i said this last week you could i was just getting all these emails like we're gonna lose arizona we're gonna
lose texas and you need to donate here and attention patriot. And oh my gosh, you know, I would wake up and scroll through my emails and I'm like, oh my God, this is doom and gloom. It was no way to set up your day for success. Yeah. Actually I've already started because Trump can't run again. So who's our next candidate? And I'm, I'm starting the hunt. So looking for a place to donate your money. Yep. Yep. I mean, it just like, we got to get behind somebody new.
Well, newsflash, you have time we got 24 months before the governor's race we got to figure it out yeah here here we got to figure it out yeah and the odds of a republican winning are going to be slim to none. But you never know. Yep. Right. I may have a little more information after tomorrow's IPOC meeting about that. So, cause Senator Barb Kirkmeyer is our guest tomorrow and you know, she didn't even have anyone run against her for her position.
She's Weld County Senator again and no one even ran against her. They just knew she would win. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it just like who would even attempt it, you know, so, and there has just been so much go on here in Colorado. Since Heidi Ganahl tried to run against Polis two years ago. I mean, she has their, Heidi Ganahl personally has created the Rocky Mountain Voice, which I encourage anyone to subscribe to that.
You can, you can donate $1 and then you get the emails and man, what it keeps you involved in of what's going on in, in the state. It's incredible. Or you could donate a hundred bucks. It doesn't matter, but what great information on what's happening here. Really good stuff. Man, I would love to move to Weld County if it wasn't too far from, if it wasn't so far from here. Exactly. I would move to Weld County in a second. Yes. Weld County is like two miles from my house.
Is it? If you drive out Highway 7, there's a sign right there, leaving Boulder County, entering Weld County. Thank you. I might move to Weld County. Move to Erie. Erie's, I want a little bit more Weld County than Erie. Too close to Boulder. Yeah, I want to like, I don't know, I'm making this up at Johnstown or. I mean, Weld County Jam is the next exit past Highway 7. Okay.
The Erie exit is like Dave's saying, Weld County. I did see some new construction going on over there and that's not far from the range. Absolutely, there you go. But I hear Erie's taxes are pretty expensive. I can't answer that. Weld County? I don't think so. Erie? Well, Erie. Erie is, yeah. Well, Erie is split. Parts in Boulder County, parts in Weld County. Oh, man. I want the good part. It's a half loser. It's on the fence. Jim, we're up. I'm up. We're going to take this one. I'm up. Okay.
Just since I wasn't really prepared, Jim, thank you. Dave spoke about it earlier. You can have Dave tell a joke. Spit one out again, Super Dave. We were talking about the trucks going up to Redmond and stuff, and Potters run that run, I think, every week since it started. And he's helped us and helped several of the guys and different stuff like that get through the. Scaling, hotels, fuel, a lot of good feedback from Potter.
And he wrote this to all of us here, the safety team and stuff, just as kind of a recap of the run up to Redmond. And it says, challenge yourself to do this run empty and loaded without using your brakes. There are hundreds of miles of everything possible, climbs, downgrades, turns, weather, canyons. Some will say it's not possible. Some will say that's easy. Some might say, well, let's give it a shot. These trucks are 100% capable to do this. I know from experience.
We hear about being proactive. In order to do so, to do this, you absolutely must be proactive and never reactive, for example. And he goes in here, like pulling through the tunnel, Eisenhower, the speed is 50 miles per hour. Do we set the cruise and wait until we come out of the other side where the truck speed and downhill starts immediately to reduce to 35 mile per hour? No, not going to happen without using your brakes.
So start reducing your speed early so that the truck is at 35 miles an hour before coming out of the tunnel. All by the steering wheel controls. Oh, sorry guys. He don't even have to touch the brake. Turn on the jakes and start your descent. The truck may gain a couple mile per hour, so to reduce a couple on the cruise, find the set point that puts you at 35, sit back and relax. Listen and learn what the truck does to maintain your speed from what you set
the cruise at. As you come down and the truck limit has ended, don't just step on the throttle and race up to 65 miles per hour. Slowly increase the speed on the cruise 5 miles per hour at a time until it reaches the speed limit. At this time, you will more than likely already be down and headed up the other side, never hitting the brake or the throttle. And so he's, you know, when I talked to him on the phone about this, guys, he just wants you to, what is that truck capable of?
You know, what all can you do? You know, running it from the high, you know, number three, I'll call it or whatever on the jakes to number one, you know, slowing up and down with the cruise, all that kind of stuff. This is a great run to really get to know your truck because there's really no lights. You're probably by yourself on a lot of the mornings or afternoons when you're coming in by yourself. I mean, just less traffic. And learn to work those hills.
Just learn about your truck. He did a nice job explaining it. And I don't want to read the whole thing because it's long. But the challenge is, is to make sure you understand everything about that truck. What is it capable of? And what is it not capable of? It'll make you such a better driver. And it also relaxes you. It makes the run easy. You know, that to me, Jim, that's just huge. Yeah.
It's just, it's, it's just easy. You know, several of the guys were leaving here to, to head out this morning and, you know, brother Dave was like, Hey, you know, chain law's up and they're like, yep, I got it. I'm going to throw a couple of chains. We'll go right up, you know, and then a couple of guys are going to go, Oh, I'm going to run up the Canyon and, and stop it. The old fries at Wallstrom quarry, I'll throw chains and then take it on up above Idaho Springs and, and do your thing.
And it was just, it's just really good to see, like Dave saying, you know, that everybody's learning about the run, getting it figured out and being positive about it. And that was, that was a Potter's whole email was. It's a positive situation. You know, the first part of this says, I've heard a lot of things and talk about Redmond Run, and there's good and bad, just like with everything. There's challenges throughout life, and this isn't anything different.
I, for one, have never not learned something from a challenge, good or bad. Something always comes out of it. What not to do and what to do again. What I can do better and so on. So that being said, I want to challenge each of you and every one of you to use this run to learn something new.
¶ Learning and Improving as Drivers
I can't. Well said. Yep. I love that when he says you've always will learn something from a challenge. Good or bad, you'll take something away from that. Yeah, absolutely, Dave. Yep. I'm guilty of saying the same thing, good or bad. Have you ever learned something bad from a challenge? I mean, honestly. No, the experience. If the experience is bad, you'll take something good away from it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, that's what I say. I'm guilty of saying it the same way, right? Good or bad.
Yeah, and I want to touch on it. The last part of his stuff was about the ELDs. And, you know, no matter whether you're running this run or what you're doing, his statement here is, one last request, learn your ELD. Ask questions and do research. This is your log and your responsibility. Learn what all the duty status means and how and when you can use them. And I think that's great. Look at it. You know, instead of asking us, look it up, form an opinion on yourself, for yourself.
And then if you're confused, ask us. Come have a conversation. You know, let's learn together. Yes. You know, he says here, what does yard move mean? When can you use it? What status is used for a 30-minute break? Can you use multiple statuses? Yes, you can. Learn what PC time is, so personal conveyance, is and how and when you can use it. Learn the definitions. Learn what to do when a trooper gives you the upload code and transfer your logs to them and how to do it.
Learn what adverse weather is and when and how to apply it. Can you use it with a little snow flurries or light rain? A small patch of fog? No, you cannot. Determine the best time to use this properly and legally. Know where and how to put in your shipping ID. Complete your pre- and post-trip inspections on your ELD. Does everyone have paper logs in the truck? And we had a discussion on this, so me and Potter did.
The paper logs, nobody should really have a paper log, and he questioned me because how are we accounting for this, if you just started the run, your last seven days off, right? That you've had not the last seven days off, whatever you've done the last seven days. And that paperwork is located here in the office. All you have to do is tell the trooper, my paperwork is located in the office, we can have it faxed to you.
The thing we learned one time when we were audited, and me and Potter discussed this, is if you have your time card here when you've ran here and it's in PACOM, you make out paper logs to prove the last seven days, then you're on your ELD, you actually have three sets of log books then, time cards. That's illegal. You cannot do that. The one here that's reported in PACOM, that's one set of logs for your last seven days.
And then the ELD that you're on is where you've started. So you're covered there. Yeah. Also, every truck should have a letter. And the letter is typed by me a few years ago.
¶ Utilizing Resources for Better Practices
And it's also accompanied by email from, I think her name was Janelle, from the FMCSA. And that explains that we go from the short hole exception to running ELDs back and forth, you know, and explains that whole situation. So that should actually help out a lot. I think, you know. Make sure you show that letter to the troopers. And there's another good point. Does everybody have that letter that started to run this? They should.
They should, right? But does everybody know about it? And that's kind of Potter's point. When I say they should, when JR sets them up in ELD, he does give them the letter. Oh, okay. He gives them a logbook. The logbook is just in case your ELD breaks, right? Then you're able to switch to a paper log. Sure, sure. Yeah, good, great point. But see, that's the thing too, is, you know, kind of Potter's point, did anybody read the letter? Right.
Here's the letter. Make sure you send it, give this to the trooper. Okay. Stick it in my pocket. Right. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. That should be part of your pre-trip before you go out of town is make sure you got, make sure you got your logbook, make sure you got the letter. Absolutely, Jim. Yeah. Cause there's, there's, I mean, it's been so many times we've been pulled over. we've had to deal with a trooper or the scales or whatever.
And then me personally getting pulled over besides having to work with them with the company, that if you're educated, you can have so much of a better conversation with the trooper, with the scale. Cause at some point they go, Hey, this guy knows what he's doing, you know, or wow, that let me look that up, you know?
And, and I mean, I don't know if we've ever told the story, but me and Dave, we had a truck shut down because the truck had a fuel leak and we called the driver and the driver's like, no, I do not have a fuel leak. And so me and Dave ran up there cause it was, it was out of service. And our old hydraulic tanks and fuel tanks, they were a split tank, 50 of it, 50 gallons with fuel, 50 gallons of hydraulic and the breather on the fuel tank, when you let the hoist down,
of course, air was shoving out of the vent, right? Just like it does on our tanks behind the cab. Anyway, it was causing a drip of hydraulic oil on the ground. And both me and Dave said, hey, that's hydraulic oil. That's not fuel. And hydraulic is, it's a mineral. There's nothing wrong with that. That's the way the system works. And finally, we convinced the trooper to rub it with his fingers, smell it. I said, does it smell like fuel? And he goes, nope.
And he goes, I'll tell you what, this is the first time ever I've ripped up a ticket or an out of service ever. And he said, good, good job. You guys, how many tickets have you guys had ripped up? Cause I know we fight. There's been, we've won several times. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I've told this story. This guy literally tore it up though, Jim, like in front of us, like, like get out of here. That's cool. I just recall when I first got back, who was it that got pulled over to scale?
Got off 285. Yeah, over by the Kipling State Shed or whatever. And we went down there and they wouldn't re-weigh this driver. He doesn't work here anymore. It was... The kid that moved to Florida or North Carolina or whatever. But anyway, we went down there and, or I went down there and I think I had Dave White on the phone and you like to ask for a reway. They wouldn't reway. And then you talk to. Desk sergeant. The desk sergeant. He said, oh, they got hand scales.
Yeah. And they had to pull the hand scales out. Right. They did the reway and they were like, you see, it's like 83,000. I'm like, yeah, we're on a secondary. Right. And he's like, oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you guys are awesome about that. You just have to question your craft. I'm pretty sure Rosario had the same thing up here in Adams County. Yeah. Finally checked the weight and the guy just did the math wrong. Right. I mean, Rosario was like, I know what I weigh. He could advocate for
himself. He refused to re-weigh. The cop wouldn't weigh him up there. I pulled in the parking lot and when I'm walking up to him because they're all in a group, they're all together at the van, they put their hands on their guns. As I was walking up, I'm like, what on earth?
You know what I mean? do do and do i look like i'm gonna pull a weapon or something shady yeah and i'm like hey guys we need to get a reway on this truck he's not overweight somebody did something wrong well who's asking and i'm like well i'm one of the owners and i'm asking because something's wrong this driver is legal i guarantee it and they rewayed and they were just like oh he can go.
And i'm just like man you guys human just because they got a badge doesn't make them right don't get shot over it, but you know. Yeah, no kidding. Put up a little fight. Nowadays, sometimes there's. Yeah. You know what was great? Rosario was like, I'm not leaving. They won't let me re-weight. I'm like, I'm on my way. Cool. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Well, we've had guys that have been right, taken the ticket, and left. Not my problem.
JFW paid for it. And then we have no way to fight it. Yeah. You know, and that's even more frustrating. The other one is frustrating against the.
The people making the mistakes right not our not our people so yeah yeah good email good job potter yeah one one let he ends it with this and i think it's pretty important don't just do what other drivers are doing and not understand why there might be a lot of drivers doing a lot of great things but if you don't understand ask right yeah i really do like the email perfect your craft basically like yeah do some research when i go yourself
better yeah when i go to do something new that I don't fully understand, like I want to know all the details about, I mean, YouTube is at everybody's fingertips and you can learn so much. JR calls it YouTube universe. Yeah. And he's, I mean, me and Dave working on his engine and his pickup, not knowing anything about some of that stuff. You Google it and you YouTube it and yeah, you're absolutely right. I'm not saying it. And the thing, there is a few of the YouTubes though, you're like,
no, that's not right. Yeah, you got to be able to discern, like, you know, does this guy know what he's talking about or not? But if you watch a few videos, you know, and there's a common theme, like, yeah. You know, and it's something else too. When you type in one specific search for one thing and it brings up that one, but then all the rest aren't. But there's a video there that you think is that. Again, that's where you have
to be an advocate for yourself, right? Pay attention to what you're doing. The thing I've saved the most money on using YouTube is my furnace, you know? Right. Like, holy shit, this thing is flashing three red lights. What does that mean? Oh, I just need to take some steel wool to my flame sensor instead of spending 300 bucks for somebody to take some steel wool to my flame sensor. You know what I mean? Right, exactly.
Yeah, I had that on Holly's car changing the brakes, Jam. I just, there was looked how to do it. And there was like this little blurb about make sure you, on the back brakes, you electrically unwind the emergency brake.
¶ Brake Changing Secrets
And otherwise it kind of like blows apart. And I'm like, what, what is that? You know? And so I searched her car model and put in there and it was like, you know, roll up the window twice, push the start button, turn on the turn signal. And you hear the back brake go, and the emergency brake actually unwind and holds in a spot so you can change the brakes. Wow. It was, it was a trip. I was like, oh my gosh, I'm glad I knew that. Cause I do know lots of people and it's just not on her car model.
The new emergency brakes, you, you pull them off and they unwind, they, they like blow up. Oh wow. And then you can't get them back. Talk about a can of worms. Yes. Yeah, exactly. Yup. Awesome. Yeah. Not, not good. Brother Dale, this next one was yours. Man, I haven't switched pages to keep up here. Veterans day? No can the west yard trucks yeah i think i.
¶ West Yard Support
Think it was actually me jam we were it came out in the meeting we had with the guys the other day i can help super dave out or brother dave out when you guys everybody at the west yard will you please i mean they're there every morning i mean once in a while i've seen them just a few minutes late but casey and kendrick are there every morning someplace in their pickups please seek them out in the morning if you have a problem go through those guys first don't call
super dave or or scooby they're not there they can't help you if you can't get a hold of somebody i understand calling over here but start with those guys those guys are awesome you know and like i said they're always there and they just asked the other day they want to be more helpful so please start with them they're super sharp and they can fix 99 of your problems right yep and it's just going to be faster yeah right yeah absolutely yeah so that was something that came out in the,
in the meeting that they've been struggling with. They want, they want to be more helpful. And that's the way all you guys can help out making them more helpful is just make sure you contact them. Perfect your craft. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The next one, how do we, how do we even talk about that one, Jim? Well, I could read it. Well, you asked, you asked me to go back and look at all the scales we hit in the last few years.
I can't tell you that this list is perfect, and I didn't want to put names, so I just kind of took a tally. These are the scales that we backed, or excuse me, that we drove into or drove off of or hit in the last few years. Ragsdale scale, we hit one time. Young's Ranch, we hit twice, which is not very good since they've only been open for two months, six weeks. 90 days. 90 days. So we're almost monthly. Yeah. Yep.
¶ Scale Damage Discussion
The Morton scale has caused the most damage to us three times up in Morton. And we've hit the Firestone scale once, and we also drove off the Fry scale. So not very good. Yeah. Yeah. I think on that jam, I've discussed it. We all discuss it. You know, the last time, what did we, is it the Firestone scale that we just hit? Rags. Ragsdale. Yeah. So guys, I mean, this is where we're at. We just hit the Ragsdale scale last week.
And I mean, at a minimum, we have $8,000 worth of damage to the truck, probably more. It took the DPF box. It hit the tank. And isn't the tank $4,000, just a straight aluminum bear tank? Just an aluminum bear tank, four grand. Yeah. No labor. And we've talked to outside sources. We've talked amongst each other. We've talked people in the industry. And these numbers don't sound like a lot, but they're super, super expensive. And they're something that should never happen. And they're preventable.
They're preventable. That's the hiccup. Never happen. Yes. You know, we've, we've, we've fired people. The one that, the one that just hit the scale. We, we had, we had to let this person go, you know, cause it's, it's that bad. We've, we've taken, you guys lose your safety bonuses. So it's hitting you guys in the pocket book, you know, hits us in the pocket book. We, we lose a teammate by, by the damage they're done.
¶ Safety Measures at Scales
And we're just, I want to, you know, we talked about trying to keep this positive, but we We are begging you guys to do it like you're taught, pull up and stop. Assess the situation. Look whether you're straight on the scale. Talk to the scale operator while you're stopped. You know, everyone we've seen, we preach for you to do nothing but drive the truck when you're pulling on the scale. No sink on the CB. Nothing. Right? Nothing. No company radio.
No ticket in hand. Don't look through your paperwork for where you're going. Exactly. Super. All of that. And yet every time we run into a scale, the driver's doing something else. Yes. Every time. Every time. Yeah. This driver was fully on the scale, got his ticket, but you guys, he, he wasn't in manual mode. Didn't start off in first gear. The truck took off in third, loaded right off the scale because it hadn't figured out it was loaded yet.
And he just careened that concrete block at the end of the scale. Yeah. But my point is, I mean, the door was barely closed. He said the scale operator was asking him a question or something. I don't know the exact circumstances, but he literally had his ticket in one hand, the microphone in his other driving and taking off. You know what I mean? I mean, not, it wasn't get in, sit down in your seat. Look in both mirrors, verify where you're at. You know, we have hood mirrors.
You can look right down on that scale on each side and see whether you're centered on that scale. I mean, it's a no brainer. You have the mirror right above the door to look down and see how far you are away from the scale. You have your own observation looking out your left window to see where you're at on the scale. I mean, we have every opportunity in the world to clear that scale. And that's the, that's the bummer part about it, right?
Things are happening that, that we are teaching and educating not to do, but continue to happen. Yeah. And I don't know how you spin that positive, you know, except that we're, we're begging you. And if you see other drivers not doing it right, start calling them out. You know, I'm not trying to make a war between all the drivers where, you know, Hey, just leave me alone. I know what the hell I'm doing. You drive yours, I'll drive mine.
Well, let's not drive into the scales anymore. Let's just stop that. And then the labor to do it all. And like we talked, Jam, just what, two episodes ago, we had how many hours in fixing the scale up at Young Ranch? When we added all that up between Casey and Scooby and me and you and all of that stuff. And what a waste. Big waste. And the scales, I mean, they're so damaging. You know, those bumper guards are designed to keep us on the scale. So they got to be strong. Yeah. Right?
Stronger than aluminum, you know, and it's like the reason we want you in low gear, you know, also roll your windows down because if you do hit the scale and you can hear it and you're going slow, maybe instead of eight grand, it's 700, you know, mitigate the loss a little bit. And stop. Stop. And don't just back up. Get out. Stop. We preach this and preach this and preach this. We probably take on almost as much or more damage because we just immediately stick it in reverse and back
up rather than getting out and looking. We've got everyone stopped. Right. Nine times out of 10, we stop, but we just back up and do more damage. I almost got it ripped off. Hang on. Let me back up and make sure it comes out. Right. Yeah.
You're saying that, Dave, and you're absolutely right. but you quickly me thinking about it it's probably 50 to like 80 percent of the rest of the damage by moving yes you know i mean it's yeah yeah yeah to try to just put it in some kind of figures we do the rest of the damage by moving yeah i think the knee-jerk reaction is to to get off, of what's being damaged yeah oh i hit it let me right let me let me back up right away i mean that's a jerk reaction yes you know to separate the the
damage you know yeah we we hit the guard rail the other day and ruined one of the big single tires wide base tires and i know because you can see from the pictures i know it didn't have a chunk out of it when it hit it but when he backed up or we backed up pulled the chunk out of the tire and ruined it yeah so really, not any damage until he moved and then it's you know 1200 backed up 1200 tire.
¶ Importance of Communication
So not to, not to dwell on it, but you guys got to help us. I mean, we're, we're, we're past the point. We don't, we don't know what to do. We need money for health insurance. Yeah. Yeah. We need, we need, you know, we can, we can bring it up, Jam. We, you know, the, the one accident where we, you know, ran the red light, you know, our fault. We, when we, when I say our fault, I wasn't driving the truck. I wasn't, I'm not the driver, you know? And he just blatantly ran the red light,
whatever was going on. Luckily wasn't on the phone. Didn't seem to be distracted. Some kind of distraction to run the red light, but we all ran the red light and a minimum $25,000 we'll have to pay out of that accident. Minimum. Yeah. The reserve is set at 45,000 right now. Yeah. You know, luckily that lady isn't seriously injured.
Right. Right. Right. Yeah. the, the, in the last couple accidents and the other one, when we, when we, you know, made the turn and didn't see the little car, you know, people got hurt there. There's $25,000, you know what I mean? It's, it's. Yeah, it's just the what if, you guys. And then some of those stuff are accidents. The run in the red light, that's not an accident. Not seeing that car, sunlight, lots of stuff in that. That's an accident, right?
Just running into the scale, it's not an accident. That's negligence. Yes. Or I want to bring this up too, Jim, because we talked about it the other day. Backing accidents, whether you're backing into the bin, bin number one at plant 13 specifically, pathically backing into your parking spot at the Red Yard. Please, please get out and look. You know, and that's, that's where, thank you, Dave.
That was the other thing I wanted to say that and put this with this, but you know, as you, as you talk, as we talk about this, it starts to make me angry. It's, it's very hard to stay positive because it, because it, how, how damaging it is. You know, the one the other day, the backing accident the other day, we had two people lose their safety bonus over it. And all they had to do was help each other. Yeah, I want to bring that up. I was just starting to write some notes on that.
I was waiting for a little break in here, but. Go for it, Dave. Any of you that have a person riding with you, they're riding with you for knowledge. And when you put them behind the wheel, you are still the captain of that ship. That's your ship. You're in charge. That person may be driving it, but you're there to train them. And I guess what I'm leading up to with that, and maybe I'm wired different or were wired different than a lot of people.
If we were at plant 13 and I knew we had to back into that sand bin, I would be 100% focused. I would be having a discussion with that driver. Hey, this is a tough bin to get in. It's at an angle. You see all the red flags? We've installed those down the concrete wall so we don't hit that with the right front side of the truck because we've done damage to the trucks down there. That means you're at an angle getting into the bend back there.
You know, if I'm at plant two, Franklin, when I've got a new guy and I'm coming around the end of the, the bins to come around and dump on the east side, got to, got to be sure that trailer is going to clear that building right on the end where they access the, the conveyor belts downstairs and everything below the bins. And there's hazards everywhere. You people that are in the truck and you have a trainee with you, that's why they're there.
Educate them. You know, when you're going down the road at 3.30 in the afternoon and you're at I-70 in Kipling, educate them. This is where traffic's going to slow down. It does every day. You know, this time of the year, first thing in the morning when you're on I-70 out towards Chambers or on I-76, educate them. Hey, this is where the sunshine glare is going to hit. Do you have a hat? Can you pull down the visor so the sun's out of your eyes?
You know, those are training segments that we have people together with. And I guess I want to remind everyone of that. You're training, train them. That's, that's the purpose of that, right? You are together to help that person be more successful. And I think, I don't think we do a good job at emphasizing that. I think we do a good job at utilizing, hey, the trucks are full. We have, you know, two spare people because we, we're very cognizant of not just sending people home.
¶ Training the Next Generation
We want to pay you. We want you to get your day's wage, you know, ride with someone. But when you're riding with someone, that's your time to get an education and to be educated, right? Have that other person. That's a team. You two are together and you're both responsible. Yeah. To tag along on that too, when you're riding along with somebody because you're just a ride along that day, help the other guy out. Right. Say, man, this is a blind backup. Here, let me jump out and give you another
set of eyes. Absolutely. And that's kind of our creed right there, you know. And that's my point. That veteran driver knows where those hazards are. You know where there's hazards at every plant and there's a hazard at every plant or this, just this little tidbit of information that we can help educate that person on so that they don't have to learn on their own. The hard way. Yeah. And you, you're exactly right, Dave.
But I think even to, even if you got a couple of guys doubled up and you both have some experience, I mean, I just, we just were talking to Elvin the other day, you know, about, I asked him, what do you do when you pull on a scale? And he was spot on, you know, stop, don't be talking on the radio, all that kind of stuff. And he said, being over the road, you know, he doesn't know how, I think he mentioned a scale down in Georgia, you know, they were parked in front of it.
They were parked behind it. They were parked on it. They were parked. They pulled the trailers off and the trailer got stuck on top of it. He's got all that experience. It not necessarily here in the gravel, but if he was riding with somebody, there's a couple experienced drivers. Talk about your experiences. Talk about your craft. Talk about the things you've seen. It makes you think of things.
Shout out to Alvin too, because we, well, when I say we, you asked him a bunch of questions about, hey, what do you do when you get to a scale? And he said, stop a few times. And that was the right answer. He knows what to do. He did. Yeah. Yeah. Job, Alvin. Yep. Yeah. Absolutely. Thank you, Yeah, there was a couple other guys I asked that morning.
We have to, you know, I told everybody that, you know, the definition of insanity is when you're doing the same thing over and over and over and you expect some kind of change. Well, we're doing this over and over and over and we're expecting a change, but I don't know what to do differently to push that change. You know, we're asking, you know, talk to the trainer and the trainee. We're talking, asking you to stop. to stop.
We're asking you, those are, those are the things you need to do, but you got to do them all the time. You just can't, I guess the insanity is us keep hitting the scales. Right. Yeah. Well, not keep hitting them, but keep grabbing your radio mic or keep, you know, rolling on without stopping or the things that cause the accident. Yes. So, yeah. Is there another way? Is there another way to talk about it?
Is there another way to educate about it? I, I, I don't know one, but you know, that's the definition of insanity. Yeah. I get it. That's yeah. Talking to some outside sources, Dave, I was like, Hey, you got, you got any idea? This is what we're dealing with. You know, just people not, not in our circles.
And, and you know, the, the, the gentleman I was talking to, he started it off with like, well, just ask on the podcast, go, you know, us as a small group of eight people or whatever you want to do that's trying to attack that we have 150 people that hopefully listen to this podcast at some point and he goes he said tell them and and you know this and and we do know this there we have a lot of intelligent people right we have a lot of sharp well-meaning great team great people and
we can't come up with a way to stop this, You know, that's where the frustration sets in. You know, where's our decision? But like we've all talked, how you stop that is to quit doing the things that we know cause the damage. Yeah. We talk about, were you going to say something, Sue? Go ahead. It's what we say in the interviews, and a lot of times Jam and I have said it for years, who makes a trucking company safe?
You could have all the policies in place. You could have all the training in place, but it's the drivers that make the trucking company safe. And then if you think about that, it's the decisions that the drivers make in the given situation. Absolutely. So don't reach up and grab that CB when you're pulling on the scale. Get out and look when you're backing up. All of those little choices are the ones we have to make in this situation, in the moment, I guess. Yeah.
We talk about the, good point, Super Dave. We talk about the JFWA, you know, like doing things at JFWA. Well, what is the JFWA and how do we come up with that way? We came up with that way from experience because we've done it other ways that don't work and lead to accidents and cause damage and our financial burden. So doing things at JFWA, it's not like we want to just control what you're doing. It's because we've done it differently and it doesn't work. We failed. Yeah.
Absolutely. All right. I did see your notes, Jim. We were talking about sun glare, the safety closures on eastbound I-70 at Floyd Hill that have started in November because the sun is so bad. So you can expect that. And we've recently experienced that with that one accident. It was a pretty sunny morning and it caused problems for that driver. I think we need to elaborate on it a little bit because I bet a lot of people don't know what we're talking about, Jim.
Elaborate. So I-70 from Idaho Springs East through the month of November here, and it may even roll into some parts of December, if it's a bright, beautiful, clear day, they're actually going to have some sunshine glare closures and they're going to force traffic off. They're either going to close I-70 or they close it. And I guess what I'm getting at is you have the option. You can get off and go down the canyon with the other, I'm making it up, 100,000 people, or you can sit there and wait.
So I guess that was- Until it opens. Yes. That was my point. We're going to stop traffic. That would be better, right? Yes, exactly. Exactly. And that will be, I definitely know it happens on Floyd Hill. And did they have another location or was it just Floyd Hill? I think Floyd Hill is the only place I've seen it mentioned. Okay.
It can happen any place. They can do it any place. So any trucks coming back from Utah at that time of the morning, which I'm going to guess is going to be between seven and eight right now this time of year with the, with the time change and any trucks coming out of Young's Ranch, you know, that's going to be in that area. So be prepared to be, be awake, be focused. Yeah. Think about it on a sunny day. You might think, Hey, this is going to
be a bright, beautiful, sunny day. And then you're like, Oh, what's, why is everything stopped? What's going on here? So yeah. Make sure you have your sunglasses. Right.
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. We need to start checking our emails about start times and dispatches this is the time of the year where things change a lot we've had people show up to work this morning at 5 a.m and guess what it was announced on the radio and a pay com went out that we have a 7 a.m start we also told people to you know pay attention because things may cancel everything canceled today so you may have had a dispatch to go to fair play well guess what you're not
going so now's the time of the year where you got to pay a lot of attention to your emails. Also, you know, if there is a question before you drive all the way down here, it doesn't hurt to pick up the phone and make a phone call. Absolutely. Especially this time of the year. I know a lot of people haven't been through a season with us yet, but I mean, we were still possibly going to send trucks out to Central this morning. And I'm like, no one is pouring concrete today.
Let's wrap it. You know what I mean? Let's be done. And we stopped the few people that were here from hopefully anybody else coming in and we were able to grab them. Excellent. This is also the time of the year where you need to be propping your tailgates open or we'll say setting them on top of your tailgate latches is the right way to do that.
You know, you can put, you know, a hammer in there to keep your tailgate open to close your latches, but then go ahead and take that hammer out so you don't lose it later and just set the tailgate on your latches. Also, that release agent, that will save you a bunch of trouble this time of the year. You want to make sure you got a little of that down especially before you go all.
Sand or even rock but you know if you don't want to have stuck material in the trailer that release agent will do the job night and day difference yeah and i i'm gonna send a text right now but i we need a couple more sprayers one of the guys was mentioning that it was just a little p stream so it didn't do a nice application on the floor gotcha i said that'll work just fine well i mean it's it's enough to release that it'll work just fine but we'll definitely get a few more
sprayers yeah ultimately you want you know a nice even spray but yeah the stream does work absolutely we had three sprayers out there last night one of them was leaking so that one got decommissioned and and i gotta i'm sorry jim i gotta tag on that idea i was informed by a driver yesterday that one of the sprayers wasn't spraying so another driver that he was watching took the lid off and just started shaking the whole bottle into the bottom of his trailer that stuff is super expensive guys
and that's not the right way to apply it it's just simply a waste please do not do that yeah yeah yeah i i think you guys have seen him and you know big john go ahead and correct me next week or whatever but i think he just carries some in his in a spray bottle like a windshield spray bottle. Which is enough that mists, you know, dog house all around and, you know, he sprays it right quick and he's on his way. Yeah. I'll describe it as a Windex spray bottle.
You know, you pump, you pump the trigger, right? Is how you do it. So. I describe it as a plant spray bottle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Same thing. Yeah. I describe it as a dog control. When they're barking. A little squirt. Yeah. Yeah. That's always, that's always a wake up call for him. Look, what happened? What was that? Didn't hurt him. How'd I get wet? Yep. Wake up, pay attention. So yeah, lots of ways to skin the cat. Oh yeah. We don't have it on here, but right now is the perfect time to talk
about three-point stance. Today is the day. With all the snow, it is just imperative conditions. We use a three point stance. We need to slow down our movements, getting in and out of these trailers. I know we're talking about release agent, but if you haven't been on one of these trailers, in one of these trailers with the liners, with snow and ice, oh my gosh, slow down and you have to have a three point stance, you know, both feet on the ground and one hand on that rail, right?
Then use your other hand just loosely and you can, you can push that stuff out, you know? We talk about it every year, getting in and out of the truck. You know, I hear at the Fuel Island on nice dry weather, I kind of see people not necessarily jump out, but they're coming out of the truck, you know, a lot faster than they would. And man, I've just noticed as I get older, I spend the time and I turn around and I step out of the truck, like one step back, one step back, both hands locked.
You ever see an 80-year-old walk or an 80-year-old take steps to go into a building? Right. That's what you need to do. Yes. Yeah. So do the poopy walk, use the handrail. Yep. And I know we've tried, but we still don't have all the trailers that have ladders. Some of them still have steps to get in. So you got to drop that front axle if you have lift axle or set the brakes. You know what I mean? There's, you have to not only be the captain of your ship, but you have to know how your ship works.
You got to be the captain of yourself. Right. Right. And you can't afford to be hurt and we can't afford to have you hurt. Yes. I just, we can't emphasize enough to slow down everything you do, you know, really think through what you're doing at the moment. You can't just go, oh, I got to get fuel. Oh, I got to clean out my trailer and just jump in there, you know, and literally jump in.
Just the jump in, you could, you could land and go sideways and who knows, break a hip, whatever the case may be. So yeah, let's, let's be careful, everyone. It just, it's. It's too important. It's just too important. I mean, all we do on this podcast is preach about safety, right? And we're talking about driving safety mainly, but this is bodily safety.
¶ Winter Safety Tips
It's more important. So please, please, please be careful doing everything. Just slow down three points of stance. If you're unfamiliar with the three-point stance, that's two hands and one foot or one hand and both feet, you know, touching whatever you're on. Right. And if you do it slowly, I mean, you're safe. Ray Davis gave a great tip also when you're shoveling your trailer out and sweeping your trailer out.
You're holding on with one hand. It's easier to start with small chunks from the back instead of starting in the front and pushing the whole thing out. Exactly. That's what I do. Agreed. If you fall a few times, you'll stop doing that. Well, you know, a couple of times it's fun, Jam, right?
You're trying to slide down the trailer and push the whole thing. and then you fall that one time you're like all right i can't do that i sure i sure do miss those round bottoms those those are super fun to slip my tip is when you fall and you're sliding out put your hands out and take as much with you it's less trips stick your feet up so you stop at the gate also it makes no angels so you look like you did it on purpose yeah no ray mentioned you keep one hand
on your side rail and i've fallen enough that's what i do yeah yeah push push the shovel with your right hand and hold on to the side rail with your left. Yep. All right. JR did a nice little piece here on ELDs, which coincides with what we were talking about earlier. Interesting. What? Yep. Just I have to ask, what is an ELD? It's an electronic logging device. And what is it logging, Jim? Your hours of service.
Perfect. It's a log book. It's an electronic log book. I thought it was ELF's cousin, ELD. So he goes on to say when running elds we don't clock in on paycom and vice versa so you're either running your time card or you're running eld you can't do both right thanks jam and i want to i want to just the paycom is your time card here right for your local exception right that's what i just want everybody to understand exactly yep go ahead and just to be It's okay. You can interrupt all you want.
Just to be clear, once you start running your ELD for the day, just because you come back in town doesn't mean you switch over to your time card. You got to finish running your ELD for the day. You would start your time card in the morning. Great point. Okay. On duty, we'll switch to driving if you go over five miles an hour.
Okay, so if you forget to hit the on-duty or the driving, excuse me, if you forget to hit driving and you start driving, once you go five miles an hour or faster, it's going to put you in drive. The yard move feature will switch you to driving if you go over 20 miles an hour. Only use it on private property, okay? If your truck shuts down, auto timer shut down, it will switch to on-duty if you don't select the app prompt to say in yard move.
This is important because if you're in Yardmove and using it in conjunction for your 30-minute break and you don't reselect Yardmove after engine shutdown, defaulting to on-duty status will switch you to driving if you go 5 miles an hour over because you thought you were still in Yardmove. You'll have to start your 30-minute break all over again because ELD driving time is uneditable on the logs. Okay, so let's talk about when you would use Yardmove.
¶ Understanding ELDs
You would want to use Yard Move when you're loading or unloading on private property that has no public roads intersecting in it. You can't use it to fuel. Basically, when you go to Utah and you get to Redmond, that's when you want to switch to Yard Move. It's a big place. So you're going to drive over five miles an hour to get loaded and unloaded and move around. If you're in Yard Move, it's basically putting you on a 30-minute break.
Yeah, something I discussed with Potter, too. He said if you would get pulled into the scales, and it's a fine line, but kind of that saying there is no public roads that intersect the scales, so you could go to a yard move. That's a private area. It's not the highway anymore. Gotcha. At the port. So if the trucks are backed up and you're having to sit there and get weighed. And you go to the yard move. Go to yard move.
Oh, that's slick. It helps with your times also because there's no street that intersects with a scale, right? Not public. Right. I like that. Okay. You have a 10 hour reset and a 30 minute breaks that are mandatory on the ELD. You can't start driving just because you think a few seconds or a few minutes shy of is enough on the logs. It will show you in a violation. So you need to take your 30 minute break before you hit eight hours of driving.
You know, if you're at seven hours and 59 minutes, you better go into 30 minute break because at eight hours, exactly you are in violation. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. And I don't want to, I don't want to lessen it, Jam, but you know, a good FMCSA, you know, inspector or whatever, they might let you slide on that, but they're going to have to look through it. They're going to have to determine you were one minute over you.
They're just going to see the violation. If there's nothing on it, there's nothing to do. You know, if there's no violations, there's no, there's no going over it. There's no audit. It takes them out of the picture. That's, that's our goal. Yeah. So the ELD makes it easy for us and it makes it easy for them. Absolutely. Right. If you don't have a violation, they'll pull your logs. It's going to tell them automatically what the problem is if there was or it's not.
Yeah. So yeah, you know, whether you're one minute or 30 minutes or two hours over your eight hour rest, they're going to see you're over and then it's going to be their discretion. Your comment, Jim, is they may not give you a ticket. Well, they may. Yeah, they may. I get, I didn't want to make less of it. But I just want to, here's the point, if you just do it right, there's no discussion. It's so funny that we're like on this and I guess I want to bring up, there's a little bit of gray area.
And what I mean by that is because we don't have a sleeper on our back. Yes. And we're in Utah, you know, approaching grand junction, right. And we're going to be 15 minutes over our drive time and it's going to show, right. We've done everything right, but it's still going to show. We've ran into weather. We use that exemption. And, you know, we did, we did all of the things right. The personal conveyance. Yes. You know, and that just needs to be a conversation with us.
We're going to give you the approval that you're making it to a hotel. You're 15 minutes over your time or you're eight minutes over your time or 20 minutes over your time. Let's not do it on every single trip. Right. We've, we've already adapted. We had two guys last week that just weren't going to make it. We just held them up in Green River. It was no big deal. Right. Let's, let's do it right. We have the ability to do these things.
Let's do it and do it right. But I also, you know, have to give that, that little gray area there that if we're nine minutes over because we're nine minutes away from our hotel, it's okay. Yeah. That's the, that's the personal conveyance piece that I, I've reread and read. I discussed it with Potter. You're able to go to a safe place because we do not have a sleeper.
Yes. We can't pull off on an exit and park. And I, I just, the gray area is if there's a FMCSA person that doesn't think you get a better night's sleep, if you drive nine more minutes and stay in a warm hotel with your own bathroom, your own shower and, and, and a bed, then what you get in a sleeper, they're idiots. Right. Especially when we don't have a sleeper. Yes. I agree with that.
I guess my fear would be, okay, you're nine minutes over and at seven minutes and 30 seconds, you have a fatal accident. Well, you were in violation. I mean, that's a big what if, right? That's the reason I'm asking when you know about it, we need to be made aware and it's a decision we all make. Right. Right. Not just a you decision. Yeah. No, I agree. I mean, if you're nine minutes from the hotel, why would you stop and sleep in your truck without a sleeper? Exactly.
First of all, sleeping in your truck, you're not in your sleeper. You can't go to sleeper berth. Exactly. Can you even claim off duty when you're in the truck? I don't think you can. No, because you don't have a sleeper yet. Can't claim yard move because you're on the side of the road. There's public. I mean, you need to get your ass to a hotel. Exactly. Absolutely. Yes. But the best thing to do is run your plan. Be smart about it.
Learn how to, like Potter said, learn how to use a CLD because if you don't, you'll be in violation pretty quick. The two guys I'm talking about, they were going to be like over 45 minutes. They weren't going to make it. Right, Jim? If I'm not mistaken. Yeah. We're like, let's just have them stay in Green River. Right. Right. They still were able to load. They made it through Salina. They made it to Green River. Boop, stay there. Have a great night's rest and hit it tomorrow. Yep.
Off we go. That is a situation where they had to be proactive, though. They didn't get like, I'm just going to say, 40 minutes away from Grand Junction and say, oh, we're out of time. Right. You know, they did their calculation and said, you know, we're not going to make this. Yep. Made the phone call. Yep. And then we held them up at the hotel there. Hence the learn your craft. Yeah. Right? Yeah. There's one other exemption you could use, and that's the adverse driving exemption.
That's to be used anytime we have an adverse weather and unexpected traffic due to accidents, et cetera. It adds two hours. What was that? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt. What would you say? I'm thinking the boys are going to be using that today. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. It adds two hours to your daily drive time and two hours to your daily shift. Essentially, there's no limit to how many times you can use it.
However, you are limited to weekly shift time limit of 70 hours that will not be extended. And that makes sense. I mean, hopefully you wouldn't have two hours every day for your 70-hour week, right? Right. I mean, what a long week of weather. Be ready to get home. Yeah. That's for sure. Well, thanks for doing that, JR. It's always a good refresher to go over these rules, so appreciate you. Absolutely. Yeah.
And I have, sorry, Super Dave, I have to mention, though, that, you know, until they enforce this, we ran paper logs, everybody ran paper logs, and there was so much cheating going on. Every buddy truck driver in the world knows there's cheating going on. And so this is a piece where it's just plainly made us better. Yeah. You know, we're, we're, we're within the rules. You know, if we'd have an accident, here's everything we're doing to do it correctly. Yeah. You know, defendable. Yep.
Yeah. Yeah. I think about back in the day when I was over the road, you know, the log book was, I mean, we call them coloring books cause they were a joke. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, you know, some guys would have multiple log books. I just ran a loose leaf log book because you just take the pages out that you want to fix. Yeah, we all did. Yeah. Just adjusted it. All right. What's next? Veterans Day is this Monday the 11th. So we'll talk more about that.
Anytime I think about Veterans Day, I think about Mondo because he takes a day off of work and he just goes eat for free the whole day. That's awesome. He said he's going to give me a list of all the places to go. I'm like, well, I'm not going to take the day off, but Outback Steakhouse, you get a free meal. I was like, oh, I might not go to the gym that day.
¶ Veterans Day Plans
I might just go to the Outback. Yeah. You know. Go get yourself a Bloomin' Onion. There you go. Is that what it is over there? I just know they have them. Bloomin' Onion. It's this big old onion that they deep fried. Deep fried. It's really good. It is really good. It'd be nice to make those at home, wouldn't it? Yeah. I've never tried. I'm sure you could. Can you out fry them? I bet you can. I wonder if you could out fry them. I bet you can, yeah.
All right. No questions from your audience. No safety topics. We do have tips and tricks from Ray Davis. I got to back up. The banks are going to be closed on Veterans Day, right? Yeah. Payday will be Tuesday. Yeah. So payday will be Tuesday. Yeah. I hope I make it that extra day. Good to know. Yes. All right. Tips and tricks from Ray Davis. I hope you make it the extra day too.
Nighttime and early morning driving in the dark. No matter how safe of a driver you are, there is not much you can do about other drivers on the road or wildlife for that matter. Both wildlife and homeless people crossing the roads and freeways. I knew we were going to laugh at that. That's awesome. It's the truth. Helmets for homeless. Both wildlife and homeless people crossing the roads and freeways on the side roads and highways have a tendency to come out of nowhere.
I mean, we laugh about that, but we've seen that on 270 multiple times. Yeah. We have videos of people almost getting hit by our trucks. Yes. I mean, before cameras, we hit that one guy over here on Quebec, you know, and trying to cross. And man, Denver like swept that one under the cup. Right. No big deal. Yep. This can be bad news for those driving to Trek at night or
early morning before the sun comes up. Though you cannot necessarily prevent an animal or impaired driver from crossing your path, you can control how you react to it. By remaining vigilant and keeping your eyes peeled on the road ahead of you, you can give yourself adequate time to prepare and act accordingly. One good tip is to make sure that not only your windows and mirrors are clean, but to make sure your headlights are clean also. That will give you the most light to see.
Also, dimming your lights on your dashboard so they're not so bright and not taking your focus off the road in front of you. Don't turn them off, but just dim them enough so that you can still see everything in your dash. I'm big on that. I hate a bright dashboard. I hate it. It's like, I turn mine down where I can still see like he's saying, but yeah, like bright dashboards, not good.
And most of all, eliminating phone distraction, make sure you know where you're going and your GPS is set before moving off to a destination. And also your music is set before leaving the yard. Hope all is well with the JFW friends, family, and listeners. Remember, safety has no blind spot. Look and lean. Sit up in your stool. Don't be a fool. It's safer to be slow than to be sorry. Much love and respect always. Ray Ray, the Black Sheep, 0013.
Another good piece. All good stuff there. Good one, Ray Ray. Yeah. Ray nails it every time, doesn't he? He has been. All right, Sue, you want to hit us with that high road hauling? Okie dokie, we'll do. So I reached deep into my bag of tricks on this one today. This is something that I had in a notebook that I kept back when we were having all our meetings with Mick Walker all the time. And we were talking about all of the motivational stuff, the safety champion teams.
And it's cool to know there's still a few people around here that were involved in that.
¶ The Positive Pledge
But this was a piece that was done by John Gordon, who wrote The Energy Bus, which we read and reviewed back in the day. And I just thought it was really good. I think it really fits in today for everybody to remember when they're going about their daily tasks on a daily basis. And this is called The Positive Pledge. And so it's just a list of positivity notes to think about in your everyday life.
So I pledge to be a positive person and positive influence on my family, friends, co-workers, and community. I promise to be positively contagious and share more smiles, laughter, encouragement, and joy with those around me. I vow to stay positive in the face of negativity. When I'm surrounded by pessimism, I will choose optimism. When I feel fear, I will choose faith. When I want to hate, I will choose love. When I want to be bitter, I will choose to get better.
When I experience a challenge, I will look for opportunity to learn and grow. When I'm faced with adversity, I will find strength. When I experience a setback, I will be resilient. When I meet failure, I will fail forward towards future success. With vision, hope, and faith, I will never give up and will always move forward towards my destiny. I believe my best days are ahead of me, not behind me. I believe I'm here for a reason and my purpose is greater than my challenges.
I believe that being positive not only makes me better, it makes everyone around me better. So today and every day, I will be positive and strive to make a positive impact on the world. And you can find that and download it at www.thepositivepledge.com. Really good stuff. It's actually designed to be a picture of a page torn out of a book that you can print and post on your wall or in your office or even in your truck. So good, good stuff there by John Gordon.
The quote this week is also an excellent quote by H. Jackson Brown Jr., who was an American author, lived from 1940 to 2021. But he quoted this, Love is when other person's happiness is more important than your own. Nice. How true. Nice. Good stuff, Sue. Final thoughts, everybody? I can go. I got a little, I guess it's a poem. I don't know how you, what's considered a poem, but I like this one. So a ship is designed to take you places.
So if your relationship, friendship, your partnership, your courtship, your companionship, your fellowship, your stewardship, your worship, and your leadership aren't taking you anywhere, then you need to think about what you're doing before you have to abandon ship. I like it. I like that, Jim. Okay. Good stuff. Yeah. Good stuff. Abandoning ship is not good, right? Well, I'm still going to talk politics.
Yay. And here's the deal. And what I'm, what I will explain, because as Colorado, as blue as we are, right, we didn't support Trump, but- You ask yourself, how does a Trump win affect Colorado? And you think, well, we're a blue state. It really can't. Well, my phone has been blown up for two hours already from the president of the Colorado Motor Carriers Association.
They along with the american trucking association and they'll get as many states as they can to jump in they're hoping they can get trump to resend biden's act policy and what the act is is the american clean truck program and that's what all of the greenhouse gas mandates that will start in 2027 that makes the EPA join all of the CARB states.
¶ Political Changes on the Horizon
I know a lot of you guys are like, I don't even know what you're talking about, Brother Dave. We've mentioned that Colorado is a CARB state. What Jim and I just found out two days or yesterday at our meeting.
PACCAR actually came out, our Kenworth branch here, MHC, brought out two PACCAR engine manufacturers from PACCAR, from Mother Kenworth, and they explained to us that in 2027, when the EPA joins the CARB, they're going to be required to have all the same crap on those trucks that will change for us in 2027. The hiccup with that is the manufacturers that have dealers here in Colorado and across the country, for every five diesels they sell, they have to sell an electric truck.
Well, Kenworth hasn't been able to sell one electric truck yet. They've had them for four years. They haven't been able to sell one yet. And I guess what will happen is all the dealerships, they're just looking around going, what do we do? We're going to lose our whole sales department. The manufacturer won't be able to make any trucks because we can't buy them because the truck dealers aren't allowed to sell them because of our government.
And I guess this is what's great about Trump is if he can rescind that, which he'll have the power to do as president, we can just hope he will. Because I think 27 states so far had signed on to sue the EPA because of these mandates that the Biden-Harris... That are unattainable. They are. They are. It's just not possible to reach. And then I guess I just want to go a bit further because it's like, okay, well, that helps us with trucks. Does it help the big picture?
You guys have listened to me for two years now complain about how Polis has stolen all of our road money and put it in green energy, right? So there's already been a plan hatched because the Federal Highway Administration has a department here that's housed with CDOT because guess what? The feds give us on average a billion dollars a year here in Colorado to fix our roads and bridges. Don't need to talk about how bad our roads and bridges are around here.
They're falling apart, fourth worst in the nation, right? You can't even travel down I-70. So here's the plan. The Trump administration is automatically going to go in and basically fire everyone that has anything to do with the current FWHA administration. They're in Congress. They will eliminate that. It's already been approached to have Bobert talk to them, ask for what's going on here in Colorado because our roads are so bad. Why are they so bad if we're giving a billion dollars to it?
Trump will be like, what's going on out there? Let's clean house, fire the FWHA administration in Colorado. Let's put CDOT on the questionnaire of where's our billion dollars going? Where have you spent our billion dollars? And when CDOT can answer that, they will put Polis on the stand.
He'll have to provide oath on sworn testimony and he'll have to explain what he's done with the billion dollars he's looking for a bigger seat than governor he is going to flip his tune and he is going to start becoming the governor that he has to be because he's a smart enough guy he's going to change with the tide so i guess it's not going to happen tomorrow it's not going to happen in january it's not probably going to happen in march but i think
you're going to see some changes start happening here in Colorado. Strictly due to the Trump administration taking the helm of our ship and riding this ship. And it's, it's going to be good for Colorado. We may not see any changes until the third or fourth quarter next year, big time. And then it's going to start hitting. It's like a bad employee, you know, Trump's the boss, Polis, he needs to be, you know. Let go. You're fired. He needs to find success.
Well, they can't fire him though, can they they can't take him out of his position but yeah they can get him back on track exactly, there's some accountability he needs to sit down he does yeah he has no accountability yes so i i'm excited about it you guys i think it's going to be there's good things to come of this and it we just have to be patient but it's it's going to be good for colorado and i i can't wait to to start to see some change here it's
it's going to be good things so excellent every once Once in a while, my daily verse hits harder than others. So not today, but yesterday's daily verse was just really powerful. I want to read it to everybody. Life often feels like an endless marathon, doesn't it? Maybe you're pouring your heart into a demanding job, struggling to mend a broken relationship, or fighting an uphill battle in your personal life. Those moments of exhaustion, it's easy to wonder, does any of this really matter?
But listen to the timeless encouragement found in 2 Chronicles 15.7. But as for you, be strong and don't give up, for your work will be rewarded. This isn't just a casual pep talk, it's a promise from the creator of the universe. He sees you, friend. He sees your tired heart, your aching spirit, your relentless pursuit of what's right. And he assures you that your efforts are not in vain. The God who counts every star in the sky, counts every tear you've cried, every sacrifice you've made.
He's deeply invested in your journey. So today, take a deep breath and remember you are not alone. The God who formed the mountains is right beside you, empowering you to climb them.
¶ Encouragement and Perseverance
Don't give up. Your perseverance matters more than you know. Then the prayer of the day says, Dear God, some days this journey feels so long and tough. I'm tired, Lord. My heart aches and I wonder if if all this effort is worth it. But then I remember your promise that if I don't give up, there is a reward waiting. It's hard to see sometimes, but I'm choosing to trust you. When I feel like quitting, give me a second wind. When doubts creep in, remind me you see every struggle and every tear.
Help me keep going, not just for me, but to show others your faithfulness. Thank you for sticking with me through this marathon. I'm so grateful I'm not running alone. In Jesus' name, amen. Then the quote of the day, we are all faced with a series of great opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. And that's from Charles R. Swindle. Nice. Really good. Yeah. All right. Let's say the creed and get on out. Let's do it. Together we face and overcome all that stands before us.
