Episode 38: Ani talks with Joan Quenan, a mid 70s independent woman who spends much of her life helping others. Joan and Ani met when they were both residents in the same apartment complex. Ani married Ty and moved out and Joan moved out into a van and took off to travel the national parks of the American West for 5 months.
The apartment complex is designed for Active Adults who are 55 and older. 85% of the units are in the City of Austin affordable program and both Joan and Ani qualified by having an income below the Median Family Income in Austin.
Joan talks about her travel adventure, the issues facing an aging population searching for affordable housing and what she is doing to make her next years better.
Joan had a great adventure touring in her van and is looking forward to getting back to work as she volunteers to help people with their income tax returns under an AARP program for older adults.
