Episode description

In this series, we will be looking at just a few of the parables Jesus used to illustrate His teaching and to make a point. The Greek word for parable is “paraballo” (παραβαλλω), a compound of two very vivid words; “para-“, which means beside or alongside, and “- ballo”, which means to throw. So, to teach by a parable is literally to throw a lesson alongside the true object of the teaching. I.E., The teacher illustrates this point by describing that point.

But Jesus would often conclude His parables with a certain saying, “He who has ears, let him hear!” Jesus was saying that it’s not enough for His words to enter your ears, or even your heart, it’s what you do with them that counts.
