Episode description

This week we take a short break from our regularly scheduled programming to celebrate Thanksgiving and express our gratitude for your support, kindness and the community that we've built.

Blumkin and Helvetica stop by for a quick hello and Erik and Catie do some stuff, too, but honestly who cares about them at this point, we all know this is the Blumkin show now.

We also announce that Erik is officially moving to Atlanta-- and we're hoping to put our Patreon funds towards making things a little easier, so if you're interested in supporting us, you can check out our Patreon here, and get exclusive access to behind the scenes content, bonus features and more cool stuff.

In this episode, Catie shares a favorite poem by US poet laureate Joy Harjo - click here to read along and learn more about Harjo's incredible work as a poet and Indigenous activist.

Oh! We have a website now! Visit Infinitequestpodcast.com and check it out!

Everybody, let's not do the introduction with food in our mouths, all right? Can we can you finish your your turkey for you? Yeah, I'm sorry, I don't know, I forgot. I was even straight for like three days. Don't get. I must I must say before we start your concept of how long Thanksgiving. Occurs is it confusing to me? We'll see you in my culture and lasts if she is. So of Mercury's in is in Stalingrad.

Then it lasts for eight days. And so that's what I'm doing and I think it's been in Stalingrad for like 30 years now if I remember correctly. So what you're saying is that every day is Thanksgiving for you blumpkin? Yeah, lovely. All right. Would you like to introduce the podcast or shall I? Hey everybody it's me. Bella. And it's me helvetica and I just wanted to say that because a completely non turkey coma related reasons.

We're just going to be taken just taking this Thursday off from like a full episode and just taking it easy. If that's all right with y'all I'm sure it is honestly it they can't do much about it but I'm Kim. It's just this is the this is the fact of the world at this point. Yeah, I don't really think that K and I think that's that's kind of the uh, our Ace in the Hole here is that they don't know where we live, so that's pretty good actually, you know, I'm just going to tell him where I

live. All right? My home address is, no God, no, no, no, please do not give them all a dress. I would, I just it seems unsafe. I just, I have trusted my heart but, you know, there's all sorts of Rogues in brigands and thieves out there who might want to address for the various purposes. Yes, suppose that makes sense. But what If they want to send us like a turkey or something, it's that time of year.

Well if they want to send us a turkey, they can send it to my friend Katie's PO box that turned into Shameless advertising. I didn't mean for it to do that but then it just, you just sort of set me up for that warm welcome. But you know, there's there's other ways to support us blumpkin besides mailing us turkeys. Oh yeah, there's the Patrick Gandhi. I'm glad we talked about this the patreon. Remember a tree. Riyadh patriarch. Yes, that's correct.

Wonder Mass. Yeah, so if you want to support us first off to everybody who's been sending us gold on a patreon. Thank you so much. It just means the world to us. We're able to do so much more stuff. We I got what we're thinking to hire and like a leg, another editor, something so that we will be able to to post elect episodes and times when we're really busy, and we're getting pretty close to that. So, thank you everybody who's been supporting us that way.

And if you want to be one of those people that, I just think it's patreon.com slash infinite Quest and speaking quite candidly. While it is true, that blumpkin and helvetica live together in a magical cartridge in the ward, the other hosts of this podcast, Katie and Eric, do not. And so Eric is in the middle of working through a move to Atlanta and your support of the patreon and are patreons. And even our venimos, all of that money is going quite literally to getting Eric down here.

So we can work on this work on this brand and work on this world view that we are building together and all jokes and weird character voices aside. We are so infinitely grateful for the support that you have been giving us and we just really, really wanted to say thank you especially today Yeah.

Sorry blumpkin my friend, Katie interrupted, how terrible so I could I was gonna see if you wanted to say a few words but I know that guy and if he starts talking about that, he's just gonna get really sad and start tearing up. So I'm not going to I do. I don't think I should should have him do that and just start crying in public again. Well, I think it takes a very strong man to cry personally, but it's up to you and your comfort level blumpkin.

Well, that's really nice. Well, I did hear that you had some pretty words. Yes, I do. Well actually, if you don't mind, I think my good friend Katie is going to read this for us today if that's alright. Blanc and let me go get her. Hey, hey, hi everybody. It's me. Katyusha boreas. And it's Jim is still still me blumpkin.

Transition. So, so one of the things that I'm really passionate about is poetry and every year around this time, I started thinking of, you know, just different poems and and the different ways that they've meet meant something to me in my life. And there is one poem that I absolutely love and it's called perhaps the world ends here and it is by a phenomenal woman named Joe harjo.

And she's actually the I think 43rd Poet Laureate of the United States. And she's also a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation and I'm just a huge fan of her work and a huge fan of who she is and her writing style and what she stands for and so special, particularly today. I just thought it would be kind of cool to share all of you share this poem with all of you and and and it's something that's meant a lot to me for a while. So we're sharing today. So here's a poem.

All right? It was the most awkward introduction to a poem ever. Here we go. Yeah, fine. Thank you. Pumpkin. All right, this is perhaps The World Ends Here by Joe harjo. The world begins at a kitchen table, no matter what. We must eat to live, the gifts of Earth are brought and prepared set on the table, so it has been since creation and it will go on. WE Chase chickens or dogs away from it, baby's teeth at the

corners. They scrape their knees under it. It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human. We make men at it, we make women at this table, we go. Sip recall enemies and the ghosts of lovers, our dreams, drink coffee with us, as they put their arms around our children. They laugh with us that our poor

falling down selves. And as we put ourselves back together, once again, at the table, this table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in this song Wars have begun and ended at this table, it is a place to hide in the shadow of Terror. A place to celebrate the terrible victory. We have given birth on this table and have prepared our parents for burial here at this table, we sing with joy, with sorrow, we pray of suffering and

remorse. We give thanks, perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table while we are laughing and crying eating of the last sweet bite.

That is perhaps Happy Thanksgiving everybody that was perhaps The World Ends Here by johar do and yeah thank you all so much for hanging out with us. We just wanted to give you a little bit something special for Thanksgiving and just let you know truly how much you all mean to us how much your support means to us and how happy we are that you are all here at our kitchen table here. Here this is, this is Eric now. Yeah, thank you so much everybody.

This time of year is its Hard because we all can't like be together with our families. I can't be together with my family. Perhaps you can't with yours all that and just the sense of community that that I mean I personally feel from all of you and I hope that you all get from us is really keeping us going. So thank you so much everybody. It really is. Yeah, thank you. Thank you all so much. Have a safe and wonderful. Thanksgiving will be back next week with something.

We don't know what It's going to be it but it will be back with something. And yeah, stay tuned for more and oh, one last, very important announcement, we have a website. Now I forgot all about. I got it. So excited about being the belacan even working on tirelessly. Yeah, so we we have, we have a website now it's infinite Quest. Podcast.com, you can go to it, there's all sorts of good stuff. So we've got links to episodes.

We've got some like biographical information about Eric and I We've also got some cool stuff about, like our ADHD and d and links to our sweet merch and all that good stuff. So, yeah, if you want to check it out, it's still definitely a work in progress, but it exists in the world which is very exciting. So, we just thought you let you know about that as well. So there you go. An important Thanksgiving. Miracle has just occurred is true, and thank you, Katie for working.

So tirelessly on that these past couple weeks, thanks for being supportive of me while I work on it. Eric, You're very welcome anytime. All right. Well it's this is this is the end of the Thanksgiving episode, everybody. This is the end of the Thanksgiving episode everybody. But yeah, thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving.
