Today’s Topic: The National R&B Music Day

What is National R&B Music Day? National R&B Music Day is a national day of recognition and celebration for R&B music declared by the U.S. National Day Archives organization.

What is R&B Music?
Rhythm and Blues (or just R&B) is a genre of music that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop and electronic music. It was influenced by jazz, gospel, and blues and features a distinctive production style, (drum machine-backed rhythms, pitch corrected vocals, etc.) and a smooth, lush style of vocal arrangements that have become popular with people all around the world.

When is National R&B Music Day Observed?
National R&B Music day is observed on the first Saturday of March each year. It is the culmination of Black History Month and another opportunity to promote peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity.

Who do you think of when you think of R&B music? I think of so many groups & music artists like MJ, the Chi-lites, Earth Wind & Fire, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Selena, The Pointer Sisters, & Sister Sledge. There are many more of them that I think of.

I’m Gail Nobles. Tune in again next time for more; to hear about the National R& B Music Day. Thank you for listening.
