Videos in Job Applications
Feb 27, 2020•10 min•Ep. 135
Episode description
Videos in job applications are becoming more and more popular and more and more common.
I've seen it in 2 ways:
- Built in as part of your application (integrated into the ATS)
- Asked to go to another platform and copy/paste the video link
Pros:
- More personal
- Can assess potential culture fit better
- Understand someone's personality before an interview
- Get specific questions answered
- Unique ... for now
- Saves time
- Reduces costs
- Can record if needed
- Consistent process for everyone
Cons:
- Could be discriminatory to conscious or unconscious bias
- Not appropriate for all jobs
- People can re-record
- Takes time for candidates
- A good portion of candidates won't do it
Tips:
- Be professional
- Dress as you would for an in person interview
- Make sure your background is clean and presentable
- Re-record if you need to and are able to
- Let your personality shine
- Be sure to directly answer the questions asked
- Answer the question thoroughly without rambling or going on tangents
- Make an outline before you hit record
- Watch/edit if possible
