Episode description

You’ve likely heard the adage, “Do good things and good things will happen to you,” or karma.

Although Christians reject karma, we can still fall prey to a karmic way of thinking and living. Dr. Burns shares that believers can be tempted to treat the Christian life as an equation, that the current circumstances in one’s life, good or bad, can be traced back to a simple chain of spiritual causes-and-effects.

Dr. Burns contends this slippery slope can quickly lead to a works-based faith, a “Karmic Christianity,” that empties the power of the cross and dilutes the assurance of Christ’s blood shed for his church.
