Welcome to cannabis school. I'm your host, Jesse Angeles and I'm Brandon Elder and we're here to talk to you about everything pertaining to cannabis from veit flower Edibles strained and everything in between. It's Tuesday, everyone. Yeah, we're gonna have a good time with. We're going to be talking about, what are we talking about today? Brandon cool. Thanks for joining us. Peter Griffin today, we're talking about extracts and concentrates and we all know, concentration, can be really
tough. You know, there's many times where I felt like, I couldn't concentrate very well. Yeah, me too. And then I just smoked a little weed and it all gets better. So totally takes. Care of that. Sorry about that guys. If I had no idea the shit out of you I pologize and then tell them in the comments. Yeah, tell me in the comments. It send us an email, you know, Senate sent us a selfie but none of the ones that you would send to Tender.
Yeah, we on that, not a pretty sure, you know, all about that. Getting surprised pick. Now I don't frequently get dick pics. I guess. Yeah. Well, you know, I'm just saying that I'm thankful for that. No complaints do, no complaints. Well, today we are talking about extracts as Brandon brought up. And so what we're going to do today is going to go through each one of the extracts, but we're going to go on a very basic level. So to kind of get into it. What is an extract? Brandon.
Yeah, and extract is basically just a cannabinoid that's been extracted from from the flower that can be done through propane ethanol, butane or CO2. Wow. So, what's the difference between each one? Just in how it's done between propane ethanol butane and CO2 they're all similar. The only difference is the product that they're running through to do the extraction,
like the solvent. So whether it's propane or ethanol, butane CO2 or a combination of those, they run those through like a tube with the flower in it. And when they do that, it actually Adheres or attaches and activates itself to like the THC molecule, okay. And what it does is it pushes it through that tube. Extracts it, extracts it down into like a glass tray and then usually that is baked over a certain period of time at a certain temperature to extract and remove the solvents.
The butane the ethanol, the CO2 Really whatever. It's been use to extract that THC or cannabinoid molecule. So, you're actually like inhaling buting. There can be Trace Amounts of solvents in some of those, if you get it, usually from like a dispensary in that, there are ways you can go find the lab tests to see percentages of that. That's why there's better ways to use extracts. Then just the ore concentrates I guess instead also Drew its extracts, makes sense.
So with that, this is easy. I can anybody could just do an extract, they can make their own extracts, are a lot harder to make because it is usually done with butane or or so you got to have like lab equipment to do this but you should be. You should be doing that with lab equipment. Yeah, I've read that. There's actually been several different accidents people. Trying to make it on their own will cause a massive explosion. Yeah.
If they don't know what they're doing, you could definitely die. Yeah, it's not worth it people. Yeah, right. It's get from dispenser. It's cannabis. All right, it's supposed to make your chill. Mmm, not blow up. So we talked about that, the CO2 and there was an ethanol. Yeah, ethanol extraction. Chain CO2 and propane. Those are usually like the
extraction methods. So, from my understanding is there's solvent-based extracts and solvent, less solvent less, what's a solvent list, like kief or bubble? Hash, what's Keith? Keith is just all the trichomes that are on or like, basically, like, THC crystals, on all the flour and so, The way they can, there's many ways, they can collect that. There's just like cold collection, which they put them in like a bag.
With dry ice through different. Many different levels of micron filter bags and they shake it and the different levels of trichomes and cleanliness flake off. Yeah filter through. So it's like a very in for those who've never don't know what Keith is is like a really soft. Powder is actually at the end of it, like you get in a grinder and you grind up your Nug in there and it'll have like two layers as a place to catch all of the your ground cannabis.
And then there's like a screen and that that's what's below. The screen is that would be key for, right? So that's if you've ever used a grinder and then that the kief catcher and the bottom is just where all that Keith goes, but they can do that on a large scale with tons of flour tones. To get just that Keefe. There's also bubble hash and
rosin. So they can also extract you like cold water extractions where they do the same thing, but it's running through water and then they rinse out and get all that Keefe and everything at the end, it's pressed into something else. And yeah, those are much cleaner ways to have a product. That's 30 concentrate. Yes. So starting down the list of strong, to least wrong. I would say, what would be the top extract that you can say? Would it be wax?
I mean a lot of them are going to really be this same as far as strength wise really comes down to percentage and then if it's like a live resin or a full spectrum, what's that full spectrum? What does that mean? So full spectrum. A lot of higher quality. Companies are going towards that now because what they do is they flash freeze the Cannabis right after its harvested. So before it gets cured or dried it just as flash frozen.
So that preserves like all the cannabinoids, the terpenes that flavonoids, you're not losing any of that through the process and they keep it flash frozen through the entire like extraction process. Wow. So it maintains like the Integrity of The product yet. That's crazy. So, I just mentioned it wax. What is it? And how do you use it? Yeah, so wax is really only just a the consistency of the product. So shatter butter live, resin distillate wax, crumble, sauces diamonds.
These are all the same stuff. They're just Actually just the way it's finished is what it does. So some are hard, some are soft, some are white. Some are like I have a tannish color or brownish color. Depends on the quality, depends on the cultivar, depends on a million different things in there but that wax or product you basically can scoop onto like a tool they call them dab
tools. Often you can use it with a dab rig or With like a, a Pax 3 or a puff Co or any product that's designed for extracts and wax is actually, it's true to its name it. The best way to be able to describe it. It's like gue earwax. Some people have said, candle wax, but it's typically. You like what Brandon said? It's yellowish-brown color. Some of them are clear. You have your Delta 88.
They have extracts for that and it's Lately clear usually without 20 yeah I've got the 10. Yeah and in looking at those oh you brought up but uh is that is that butter butter? Oh I mean it's like butter. If you were to have butter that sat out at room temperature, that's what it's like working with. Okay. So it's usually really sticky, really smooth consistency. You could spread it like butter, okay. And what would you use butter? I mean, how would you with that?
The same thing like add a break or yeah. All of these, you can dab with you can turn them into Edibles into tinctures. There's so many different things very versatile. That's why I'm talking about content. These extracts concentrates besides the vapor the vape pens which we'll talk about. But when you're using these products it's it's just a very more concentrated way in a very small form, like you're able to get quite a bit over there. So this is Really?
I mean when you're talking about these extracts, these are really good for those in in the case like you are in right where you have a lot of pain due to like for you or crack disc in your back. Like it's not something you go pop, a couple ibuprofen and I'll be fine. No. It's going to mess up your day. Yeah, so it's it in that light. I think it's these are some by far one of the better products to use.
If you've got quite a bit of pain, I wouldn't say that using extracts would be a brand new person to the Cannabis world because it's a little bit hot. You, you don't have that experience of knowing how much is too much for you and it's really easy to take too much with the concentrate. Very easy. That's has like the size of a pinhead. Can be more than enough for the person depending on your tolerance. Exactly. You have to be very careful with that. So what are some of the other
actually brought up diamonds? I'm Only guessing that that because they look like diamonds or crystals. Yeah it's basically just pure THC crystals so it's those are like 99 percent THC or just really high because it's it's just pure THC. Yeah they don't usually have a flavor. They're pretty flavorless because they are just the extracted the flavonoids all of the can like terpenes all of that. It's just pure THC. So When you get sauce it is
solves. Yeah, it's kind of similar to when they make diamonds but a lot of the extraction when it's creating there's like a separation of what are called the diamonds or the crystals and the sauce. So it's in the same process, all of that one is just the running or liquidy part and the other is more of the crystals that are created from it. Sir difference in smell with them, and they all kind of smell it.
It same, Depends on the strain because with and a concentrate, you get such better flavor and cannabinoid sometimes. Mmm, then you would, if you were to smoke it or something else, because you cannot take that same temperature. And so, you're getting a much more flavorful experience and it's all strain, specific depending on what strain, you work, concentrates made with. So, You can carry on a lot of those. Same smells flavors Aromas
everything. Wow. Forward into your concentrates from the flower. So you can have some sweet experiences and you brought up shatter before scribe for our listeners. What shatter is yeah shatters just like a it's another type of extract basically and what shatter is is it's like like peanut brittle. Yeah like a translucent yellow. Lee. Peanut brittle. Yeah. And it shatters.
So if you have it warm it it's like bendy but you keep cool and it Shatters literally into pieces when you giant break it apart. So so you take the little pieces and put them in your dad, a break or into a specialized pipe, that can actually consume that. It's like that, that little pipe that I have that you could load a bowl and then you can actually put an extract in that one if I'm not mistaken. Interesting. Yeah, that would be super unique.
That would be unique to women. And we had talked about packs three which we were able to review. Great product and it's really easy to be able to use the extractor, has the little compartment over there, that can switch out pretty easily. You're able to throw in, you know, your butter for. You can put in any type of extra. Could you put literally any extract in there from shattered? All of them.
Oh yeah, yeah, in the bottom. So, whatever experience or that you were going for, you can use go. Mmm, I love that. So, what are some of the other things that we need to know about extracts? What's I would love? Nona instead of that one. Before you go up, what are you mean? We've talked about the positives of it happen, extracts. I mean it's its potency its availability.
It's you know, transportability is pretty easy but what are some of the negative aspects of the negative aspects of extracts concentrates are going to be. Obviously for one the potential health risks, you know, who is making your extract does It come from a dispensary, does it come from trusted Source, right? Or are there solvents remaining and that are pesticides. Are you dabbing products that are subpar so that is something to always be aware of with any cannabis product.
Make sure what you're getting is quality products. So that's one of the biggest things and then the other con is it's kind of hard or not safe. Most the time to do it when you're not at home. To try and dab. If you're using add a Brig most of those people are caring. You have like a blowtorch. This dab rig your heating up this entire thing you're not carrying that around so it's not
maybe you're not. Yeah I mean that's true I'm not maybe there's people want to stuff this whole the fabric, dad a break and a blowtorch just the park. You know, I actually hear that on the phone whenever Brandon are having conversation, I can hear in the background going. Must be 4:20 somewhere because you just hear this. Yeah, in the background, the torch. Well, you know, it's because the amount that I can get from like puff Co rap acts. It just, it doesn't get that
same level. It's kind of like using a pen. It can get you to a certain extent, which is great, but it doesn't get me always to where I'm trying to get to. So is swap it out for what you need?
Yeah, just roll with it. And it's great thing about Strax. There's so many different ways to be able to consume it from very small handheld to very complicated Rigs and we were at a cannabis convention just a while back and they had this crazy like what was it was like a Gaborik or was it actually have flour in it? We can do all natural about remember look like it. Had this like glass Dome over. It was blue and so are you talking about the gravity bong? Yeah.
Yeah. I think I did have an idea, strong attachment for that. That was crazy. Yeah, that was actually made by the cookies brand I believe. Yeah. I was like, I think it was like, 500 bucks close to or a little bit more now. It's pretty cool rig. Yeah, definitely would be awesome for concentrates to but yeah, they have all sorts of pieces ranging for concentrates from super small up to really
large. But concentrates are always a great great way to Get into if you need some really versatile, used product. Yeah, I heard one of the funniest explanations of this and in no way, it should be taken as a negative connotation, but it was the funniest way of looking at extracts. When you're consuming extracts extracts to flower. Is what cocaine is to freebasing because you are smoking it directly into your like you're just taking Taking the smoke coming from the extract.
So it's not as harsh as far as like, when you smoke actual organic material, right? The, the actual, but like, it's not as strong as far as the taste and the hit. I mean, you are going to cough, I don't know. Depends on the on a lot of factors. I think on that on the temperature on the piece you're using the temperature, definitely has a lot to play with it. Yeah, make sure you learn that because a lot of people burn their dabs and it is so much
harsher to take. So it's like eating a burke Pizza, it's like do it but might as well just get another one. Just have to load another with the little bird of like that. So it's it and we'll talk about those types of dab rigs and those things that actually you know, how to use them, how to maintain them, how to keep them clean but going back and extracts. What would you say like the big? I would say this is for somebody who is pretty experienced in the
Cannabis world. Yeah, typically mid-level type person. You've been doing it for a while. You kind of know how you react to cannabis. I, yeah, I feel like if you are to the point that you are using pens and you're comfortable using pens, I think you're just fine to move to concentrates and extracts because it's the same thing.
It's just a different device that you're using to partake of it. So, if you're The point that you're using pens, I think 100%, concentrates and extracts are great thing to consider its lot cheaper on your budget. Typically typically great, great thing to look into. So any other concentrates that that we're missing? I just see like CBD, Delta a Delta nine, those types but nothing specific as far as you know, talking about the differences and that's why you'll see prices.
It'll look like it's not a lot, but you have to compare Italy. You have to compare that to actual flower and whatever that little amount is and what would you think that based upon your knowledge and total experience within this community? If you have like a little container that has like a g, ya G compared to how much actual flowered you'd have to smoke? Well, it depends on the strain most of the time when you're getting a Like an extract ore concentrate.
You're only getting maybe twenty percent yield out of a the flower. So your initial starting product, but really with like a gram of extractors 600 to 900 milligrams of THC, probably that 600 and 900 milligrams of THC in Flowery or probably close to an eighth, eighth of an ounce just depending on the strain of flour. Yeah. So if it was for you and maybe a close friend or a loved one right about? Yeah, perfect. For both of you.
I mean, that's a lot to do in a dab, any, but I mean d, just goes for a long period of time, like, you know, not having to buy a ton or load up another bull. You're taking these little. Like, when you mention the tool, how is think of it? Like a Spartan spear? Yeah, he's got this little one just because it kind of looks like it. Yeah, the one I'm using that's pretty cool. Like, it's It serves two purposes, its home protection. And yeah, whoever said, nine
inches, can't save a life. Whoa, whoa, that guy's yeah. Thanks so much for joining us. Remember to be able to share this with a friend. You can serve you. Yeah, please. Leave us a review.
