Chronicle 63: "Rivalry, Revenge, & Homicide"

In October 2022, a cross-state rivalry took a bleak turn when University of New Mexico student Brandon Travis and his friends visited New Mexico State University in Las Cruces for the two schools’ annual football showdown. What started as a clash between fans ended with Travis on the losing side of the scuffle, which sparked a chilling chain of events. The next month, when New Mexico State traveled to Albuquerque for a basketball face-off, Travis and his friends, still nursing a grudge, hatched out a revenge plot, which specifically targeted men’s basketball player Mike Peake. The plan, however, went awry, resulting in tragedy – leaving one student dead, and another severely injured.
