Episode description

Dr. Alberto Ares is a Jesuit and an associate professor and researcher at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, where he serves as the director of its Institute for Migration Studies and teaches in international migration and development cooperation.

The fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic is dramatically transforming economies globally. In episode #8 of Campus 10178, the ESMT Berlin podcast, we discuss the differing impact of the coronavirus crisis on marginalized and underrepresented groups, especially on migrants and refugees in the European Union. Does this crisis present an opportunity to reshape EU economic policies and systems to better serve these populations? Or are protectionist responses to the crisis merely exacerbating their struggles with integration, health care, labor rights, and more? Dr. Ares and the Campus 10178 team discuss how these issues are playing out in media, governance, and the private sector during the crisis.
