Fruit can not grow unless it is attached to the vine. In like manner, Christians can't grow unless attached to Jesus.

Jesus uses the analogy of a grape vine bearing fruit to how we need to abide in Jesus so we too can bear fruit and be painfully, but wonderfully pruned.
