Episode description

This week we continue our Oscars series discussing American Fiction! Directed by Cord Jefferson and based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, this film follows a writer who authors an over-the-top satire of stereotypical "black" books. His work is viewed as genuine literature by society and garners critical and commercial acclaim. Starring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, Issa Ray, and Sterling K. Brown, this film explores how, and by whom, stories are told in America. It has been named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the American Film Institute, has won numerous awards this awards season, and has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards... But Is American Fiction Good?
