Welcome to the Buddhist Boot Camp Podcast. Our intention is to awaken, enlighten, enrich and inspire a simple and uncomplicated life. Discover the benefits of mindful living with your host, Timber Hawkeye. Every decision we make throughout the day renders our next decision more difficult to make. It's called Decision Fatigue. And what I've discovered is that it's really helpful for me to make a decision one time that makes a lot of my future decisions for me.
That way, I don't have to make so many choices throughout the day. I mean, if you've ever stared at a restaurant's menu and there were so many options to choose from, it makes it more difficult to decide rather than having to pick from three things. And the same is true if you have a closet full of clothes. So many people say, "I don't have anything to wear," and that's obviously not true, it's just that there are too many things to choose from. So what I've done is I've limited my choices
by making one decision that makes my future decisions for me. It could be something as simple as shaving my head once a week: I don't have to worry about a haircut, I don't have to worry about products, I'm saving time, I'm saving money, and I'm saving the decision fatigue of never having to decide, how do I wanna wear my hair? ... How to fix it... And to look in the mirror... I don't have to worry about it. I've eliminated all of that. That works for me.
I've decided what I wanna have for breakfast every day. And that way I don't have to think every morning, what do I wanna have? I've made that decision. It's whatever is the most nutritionally dense meal that is enjoyable, of course, but also easy to prepare, and it makes that decision for me. It's really simplified my life to an extreme and it really helped live the minimalistic lifestyle that I really enjoy. I have five shirts, I have...
and they're all the same... I have one pair of jeans. It enables me to never worry about what I'm gonna do or how I'm gonna do it. And I think tying in all my invitations to live the life that we want to live in and writing down our core values, if we decide what our core values are and we've already made a decision to always be honest, then we're never caught in the trap of Should I tell them the truth? Should I not? We've already decided we're gonna be the kind of person
that tells the truth. And so we're never caught in that internal conflict. It's just it's so easy. We've already decided what kind of person we want to be, we've eliminated Decision Fatigue and we're keeping ourselves on the path toward being the kind of person that we ultimately want to be.
