[SPEAKER_01]: I like I want to use that meme today from I think you should leave is like, what did they do to us? [SPEAKER_02]: So ridiculous.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like you said baseball is such an up and down game. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't know what's going to happen. [SPEAKER_02]: Anybody can win on any given day no matter the talent level. [SPEAKER_02]: Why us? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I looked at the pitching matchups.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we came off of facing Jonathan Cannon and some other guys, the white socks, that are shouldn't blow you away to facing Casey Myers, Jack Flaherty, and then a top pitching prospect today, Troy Milton, which I thought might he might struggle with pitching prospects are up and down, but especially on the road, making your debut on the road does not fun. [SPEAKER_01]: on a getaway day of all days, that was main Detroit, but still, this is a really good Detroit team.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were a twenty games above five hundred coming in here, first place in the Yale Central, they were main, first place in the Yale Central. [SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't think things were going to get better for the pirates after that wide-sox series. [SPEAKER_02]: The white socks of law are the Detroit Tigers have lost nine in the last ten. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I did not know that actually.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So on a bit of a slide still an incredible team and a team that we've been rumored to trade with too because they're interesting interested in a lot of our potential trade candidates. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just got Molly walked by the white socks.
[SPEAKER_02]: So and then just playing with my heart and it's [SPEAKER_02]: an interesting study, higher advanced should be studied because the amount of psychological warfare that this team places on individual human beings is vast. [SPEAKER_02]: It's significant to show up [SPEAKER_02]: and want to tear everything down and be down in the dumps and quite literally saying this is rock bottom after we've already hit rock bottom maybe five other times to then sweeping the tigers.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm happy about the wins, but I'm almost more sad for tigers fans because at this point they could win a ton of games that doesn't matter. [SPEAKER_02]: The season is effectively over. [SPEAKER_02]: for the pirates. [SPEAKER_02]: I hate to beat a one break it. [SPEAKER_02]: They're not going anywhere. [SPEAKER_02]: So the winds are great. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm always going to cheer for them to win, but then it's just like, man, how bad does that feel for a tiger's sand?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because you come into this series. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, they just lost. [SPEAKER_01]: They got swept by the team that's in the last place earned a vision. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a good opportunity for us to get a jump and build an averse, either even stronger distance between us and the second place team. [SPEAKER_01]: And I know there's two months of baseball left, but like not a good sweep here on the road.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, substitute Tiger fans, but, you know, a lot to talk about. [SPEAKER_01]: I think this in these next two weeks here as Pirates fans, we have a lot to discuss, a lot that's going to happen. [SPEAKER_01]: Did we see Mitch Keller's last start? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, maybe at home, probably at home. [SPEAKER_01]: did we see the article that Noah posted today in the post Gazette about O'Neill Cruz?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk through that real quick before we get into the game recap. [SPEAKER_01]: He reported that O'Neill Cruz is being, quote unquote, shot. [SPEAKER_01]: Ben Cherington, I think it was noted in his article, refuted that saying, we're not shopping him, but we've received a lot of calls on him and we're listening. [SPEAKER_01]: He is under team control until twenty twenty eight. [SPEAKER_01]: Would they be selling low on O'Neal right now given his season.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you're ever going to be selling low on O'Neal unless it's just. [SPEAKER_02]: If O'Neill had ten soul bags and ten home runs, I'd say, yeah, you're selling low. [SPEAKER_02]: But as we stand here, or as we talk here today, O'Neill Cruz has what? [SPEAKER_02]: Thirty three bags, thirty three bags, sixteen home runs, forty RBIs, a seven, thirty eight OPS, two, nineteen batting average. [SPEAKER_02]: Has he been poor at the plate as of recently?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: He said a run. [SPEAKER_02]: He's still one of the best hitters in this lineup. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Does he hit the ball harder than anyone else in the league? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: This is such a polarizing player in somebody that could be the face of a franchise for a lot of teams if he were to reach that level that you want him to take that next step to. [SPEAKER_02]: I am against trading ono crews.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, I do think you listen to every single call that comes in. [SPEAKER_02]: You've mentioned it a ton of times on this show. [SPEAKER_02]: You're not doing your job as a GM. [SPEAKER_02]: If you just say, hey, these guys are untouchable. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't even call me about it. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't talk about it. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't even pick up the phone. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: You never know what team might come in at the last second who wants to throw O'Neal.
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess in center field for a team that needs a center fielder. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess you could maybe play a corner, although that's going to be very difficult for another team. [SPEAKER_02]: I just don't see how [SPEAKER_02]: The return will work out at this juncture. [SPEAKER_02]: That's going to effectively get the pirates what they need and less it's going to be just only a cruise for prospects like top prospects.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's going to be only a cruise for multiple major league proven bats because that's just what it makes sense for a team that wants to add only a cruise.
[SPEAKER_02]: right now it would have to be top ten prospects and I would expect multiple multiple multiple prospects just because of the ceiling that cruise presents I just don't think it makes sense right now for this team keep him in the middle of the order he I think at this I could see a future with him in the lineup somewhere but I think there's a fine line between [SPEAKER_02]: trading a Mitch Keller and an O'Neill cruise.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think we don't want to get too carried away with fire sell. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a good business to listen on everything. [SPEAKER_01]: So if that's just what they're doing, then it makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: I tend to believe that they may be calling to see who's interested. [SPEAKER_01]: And whether you want to call that shopping or not, I don't really care about the terminology.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, he's a guy that has a really high ceiling. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's a guy that he's one of the only guys, if the only guy in this lineup right now, it's like, could change the game in the matter of one swing. [SPEAKER_01]: And you have to fear, as pirates fans, I know this is the ongoing fear with everyone that he goes to another organization and figures it out.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, two years of control, it makes sense to listen, but I'm not taking that offer unless I'm blown away with prospects or guys that I think would make this organization better long term. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you could just totally pun and say, hey, our next window is the Connor Griffin window. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And we're just going to load up that class. [SPEAKER_02]: But again, then you're just hoping that prospects work out.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we've said it a billion times prospects are prospects to other not prospects. [SPEAKER_02]: And you just never know if that's actually going to unfold and deliver what you want it to be. [SPEAKER_02]: So get proven bets for midcheller. [SPEAKER_02]: Get rid of all the guys on a one year deal. [SPEAKER_02]: Listen to guys for crews, but it would have to be such a significant return. [SPEAKER_02]: for a name like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: It would have to make who much sense not to do it. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that has to be the bottom line. [SPEAKER_02]: Like it has to be like, oh my God, this is such a crazy deal. [SPEAKER_02]: How could we ever pass on it? [SPEAKER_02]: And that's like where we start. [SPEAKER_02]: It couldn't be like a fine. [SPEAKER_02]: Like this is gonna help our team. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we'll send crews away. [SPEAKER_02]: We're probably not gonna sign up.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna ask for too much money. [SPEAKER_02]: Some team is going to give him [SPEAKER_02]: a lot of money and free agency just because of the ceiling that we've talked about, but it would have to be significant for them to make that move. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's I'm hoping that's the general thought press process in the for an office right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it makes sense to listen on a guy that especially guy with two years control, you're not you don't want to let a guy like that just walk. [SPEAKER_01]: If you don't think you're competing, you know, the next two years. [SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_01]: Makes sense for an organization like a Pirates, but I thought we'd just address that because it was an article that popped today.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, wow, I guess cuchin schemes are the only untouchables like that was previously reported because that was a shocker to me as well. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously not schemes, but cuchping at thirty eight year old D.H. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like on a one year deal constantly. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know why he's untouchable, but like really. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of other guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're going to have Noah on soon to kind of take more of a deep dive into who's going to get moved and what we expect the returns to be because there's a lot of guys that are good. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would say the locks are ICF. [SPEAKER_01]: Ferguson even though he hasn't been pitching well as of late, but I still think you move him. [SPEAKER_01]: Keller pretty much anyone on one of your deal, one of Benar Santana. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, I can't fall ready yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think those, you're going to see quite a few guys moved and I think the team's going to look a lot different. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on, guess first, but we've been saying that and I think that's fairly obvious. [SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to be aggressive. [SPEAKER_01]: This isn't just for the better, betterment of the pirates. [SPEAKER_01]: It's also, this Ben will continue or hand baseball. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep, so under percent, man, a hundred percent.

[SPEAKER_02]: We were there. [SPEAKER_02]: for the Monday and Tuesday games, of course, the Wednesday game was a day game, but Monday, three to nothing, schemes, W, six innings pitch, three hits, no runs, one walk, six case, his ERA sits at a one nine one right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Just, just guys, I don't think people realize like the greatness that we're witnessing. [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just absurd. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it really is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Fifty-five strikes on eighty-six pitches just absolute dominance and then he was followed up by Ashcraft Santana and Benar Santana had three k's Benar has been unreal too.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, this is somebody that they sell high on because we saw what the lows could be and you saw what the highs can be and he's you know all credit were credited to he's had stutching sane bounce back to where he's at an all-star level again right now [SPEAKER_02]: This second half has been nothing but spectacular for David Bednar. [SPEAKER_02]: So keep an eye on that. [SPEAKER_02]: And then the offense was all Spencer Horowitz all week for this series.
[SPEAKER_02]: Horowitz went three for four with one RBI Reynolds two RBI's Hayes had to hit on the day. [SPEAKER_02]: As a team, still struck out a lot, twelve case, three walks, nine hits, two for six runners in scoring position, eight left on base with three to nothing, just everything came together, such a nice bounce back, W, especially for schemes getting ahead early and then the bullpen shutting it down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, I tweeted out earlier that we're all going to remember where we were doing the Spencer Horowitz week because this is, he's really put it together as a late offeter in this series. [SPEAKER_01]: But Tuesday, eight to five up, Mitch Keller, what could have been his last start at PNC Park, six innings, six hits, three earned, three walks, five k's, the only, the big, [SPEAKER_01]: amount of run production was from that Jake Rogers home run there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Three, fifty, three, ERA, ten whiffs. [SPEAKER_01]: Isaac Massen came in, one inning, one hit two k's. [SPEAKER_01]: The usual Isaac Massen got out of that inning, two, fifty, three, ERA. [SPEAKER_01]: Field Ferguson though, one inning, two hits, two earned two k's on the Jamai Jones homeer. [SPEAKER_01]: His year is almost at four now, three ninety two. [SPEAKER_01]: And Benar got notched his fifteenth save. [SPEAKER_01]: He has twenty one straight saves without allowing a run.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what has allowed his year a to go from like seven to two point three one. [SPEAKER_01]: in a matter of two months. [SPEAKER_01]: Horowitz three for four with two doubles two RBIs. [SPEAKER_01]: Brian Reynolds three for five with a double and two RBIs. [SPEAKER_01]: Fam had three was three for five with two doubles and two RBIs. [SPEAKER_01]: He used that two fifty four which is insane.
[SPEAKER_01]: Think about because he was at like one sixty like what feels like a month ago. [SPEAKER_01]: Fourteen hits total. [SPEAKER_01]: Eight of those hits were doubles. [SPEAKER_01]: Seven for nineteen with runners in scoring position twelve left on base ten k's. [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of guys left on base but just a lot of guys got on base. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's is where you got to look at that aspect.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ten k's, but you hit a lot of extra base hits, no homers, but eight doubles out of fourteen hits. [SPEAKER_01]: That's significant for one game. [SPEAKER_01]: One of the better offensive performances for this team over the past couple months. [SPEAKER_02]: And then once it completed the sweep six to one dub over the tiger's belly falter, one of his best outings of the year seven innings for his one earned towards the end of the outing. [SPEAKER_02]: No walks, eight strikeouts.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got a three eight two year a nine whiffs on the day. [SPEAKER_02]: Carmen Maginski cleaned up the rest. [SPEAKER_02]: two innings one hit, no earned three k's. [SPEAKER_02]: He had eight with and Spencer Horowitz with his first career grand slam for our be eyes. [SPEAKER_02]: His average is just under two fifty in an Andrew McCutchen hit his ninth home run on the year.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's had at least ten home runs every single year of his entire major league baseball career and he's won a way of doing it again. [SPEAKER_02]: Pretty impressed. [SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna get it. [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely absurd. [SPEAKER_02]: He's sitting at two, fifty five. [SPEAKER_02]: Only a cruise two for three with one RBI. [SPEAKER_02]: Two stolen bases. [SPEAKER_02]: He's at thirty three now. [SPEAKER_02]: His average is now at two, nineteen.
[SPEAKER_02]: He did hit the ball. [SPEAKER_02]: Very hard. [SPEAKER_02]: It's entire series. [SPEAKER_02]: And then Brian Reynolds has come alive two for four with a double his average now sits at two thirty seven eight hits total one for five runners in scoring position four left on base eleven strikeouts to complete the sweep. [SPEAKER_02]: Verse that tigers. [SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know what to think.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: At this point, I think I'm just trying to stay the course of this is not a good baseball team. [SPEAKER_02]: Adam, this baseball team is not going to make you happy. [SPEAKER_02]: Wait, are you questioning that? [SPEAKER_01]: Are you questioning that? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to find a, this is a girl that you meet and you have a really fun weekend together, but you know she lives across country and she's only town for a visit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing long term is going to work in here. [SPEAKER_02]: So you just need to cut your losses, move on and just put the blinders on and keep moving forward because yeah, you can remember the good times from this past three days. [SPEAKER_02]: You had a great time. [SPEAKER_02]: You thought everything was good. [SPEAKER_02]: but just the next day it's over. [SPEAKER_02]: So, just keep moving forward. [SPEAKER_02]: Just keep moving forward. [SPEAKER_01]: We're at analogy.

[SPEAKER_02]: Friday, you're going to see right-hand a pitcher Ryan Nelson versus Mike Burrows. [SPEAKER_02]: This year, Nelson is six and two with a three five two ERA, eighty four and one third in his pitch.
[SPEAKER_02]: twenty-one game sixty-nine strike strikeouts with a one-o-six whip versus the pirates earlier in the air he went six and two-thirds for his no-erne no-walks for case in a five to nothing Arizona when the arsenal is a four-seemed cutter slider curve change strong athletic frame with durability to start [SPEAKER_02]: Above average velocity and carry when located properly, fastball heavy approach here, command and control have been inconsistent at the major league level.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hard sweepy slider that flashes above average with good toe in depth when located well. [SPEAKER_02]: It's the legitimate swing and miss pitch against right handed hitters that brings us to Saturday. [SPEAKER_01]: Saturday, we got Merrill Kelly versus Andrew Heaney, Merrill Kelly, nine or five is a three, thirty two year array at a hundred and twenty two innings pitched. [SPEAKER_01]: Twenty one game started a hundred and eighteen gaze in a one-o-six whip.
[SPEAKER_01]: He throws a bunch of pitches here, man. [SPEAKER_01]: He throws a change in four-seem at twenty five percent of the time, and then he'll mix in a cutter, sinker, curve, and slider. [SPEAKER_01]: He's not overpowering, but he has plus command and a deep pitch mix. [SPEAKER_01]: The cutter is arguably his most effective pitch. [SPEAKER_01]: The cutter is as key to keeping hitters off balance, especially raise.
[SPEAKER_01]: It uses it to jam hitters or sweep away barrels and often mixes it in. [SPEAKER_01]: early counts. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a true weapon. [SPEAKER_01]: His change up. [SPEAKER_01]: His change up is a true weapon versus left handed hitters. [SPEAKER_01]: This is best swing and miss pitch with excellent arm speed deception and later action. [SPEAKER_01]: He can throw it in any count and isn't afraid to double up on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's just going to throw the kitchen sink at you and he's going to, he's a pitcher over a thrower. [SPEAKER_02]: Hundred percent. [SPEAKER_02]: And then Sunday will see schemes again, burst Zach gallon. [SPEAKER_02]: What was once a [SPEAKER_02]: Barely dominant arm in the league has struggled this year in twenty twenty five.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's seven and eleven with a five five eight year a hundred twenty one and in pitch twenty one games a hundred sixteen k's with a one three seven with verse the pirates this year he went five inning six hits five earned three walks three k's in a ten to one pirates win. [SPEAKER_02]: The Arsenal is a forcing curve change slider cutter.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sinker may not have the flash of strikeout artist but his control pitchability and ability to dominate with a deep mix put him firmly in ace territory when healthy. [SPEAKER_02]: The forcing fastball is not overpowering but plays up thanks to command and tunneling. [SPEAKER_02]: He locates it well to all quadrants particularly at the top of the zone and uses it effectively to set up his secondaries.
[SPEAKER_02]: The curve ball is by far his signature pitch, tight, late, breaking and deceptive. [SPEAKER_02]: He can throw it for a strike or barrier as a chase pitch. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a, especially effective against righties and has a high-wiff rate when located properly. [SPEAKER_02]: Man, if they sweep the Diamondbacks, I'm going to be, I'm like, I will be so upset because I'll be happy on the outside, but internally, I'll just question everything in my life.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, rooting for them to win every single game. [SPEAKER_02]: But my God, is this a roller coaster? [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a roller coaster that's very, very downhill and then it has that one real big rise and then it goes right down and then it's just level for a long, long time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think they have a West Coast trip after this. [SPEAKER_01]: So it'd be nice to at least win this series.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is a team that's not going to be like a sell high on everybody, but they're going to, I think they're going to do a mixture of selling and buying because they're a good team and they've got the pieces. [SPEAKER_01]: So you might see like a nailer go on a one-year deal. [SPEAKER_01]: You might see one of their pictures go as well, but this will be an interesting matchup. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it'll be a lot of scouts there for the trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_01]: could determine a lot, you know, for the upcoming trade done deadline as well. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm excited to be the ballpark this weekend, man. [SPEAKER_01]: It will be a fun matchup. [SPEAKER_01]: We got the what backyard baseball shirts are coming out on this Friday, which will be cool. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe an announcement to come soon. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Anything now, but maybe an announcement for this upcoming weekend, pretty pumped about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: And as always, just excited to be at the ballpark this week and we got tomorrow off tomorrow is Thursday. [SPEAKER_02]: He's a bad guy. [SPEAKER_02]: His name's Adam Devo. [SPEAKER_02]: He's not a good guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why we haven't doing all the behind the scenes stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: Now does he do a great job with that phenomenal? [SPEAKER_02]: We couldn't be doing what we're doing at the level that we're doing it without our cameraman. [SPEAKER_02]: But just be careful when going, he gets a little, don't test it. [SPEAKER_02]: grab the baseball card or whatever we're giving away. [SPEAKER_02]: Fun stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: Looking forward to it. [SPEAKER_02]: I always love when they play the Diamondbacks. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm always very intrigued with that roster.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully, they still have you, Hanyo Suarez at the time they get here this weekend, because that guy is on an absolute three or five home runs or something like that. [SPEAKER_01]: He's another name that could go. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: You can get to the Seattle, New York, a bunch of big markets that need a third base or just a power bat in the middle of the lineup. [SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a big weekend for sure. [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
