- Jon and the rest of the Night's Watch located at the Fist of the First men are woken by a horn in the night.
- With the arrival of the men from the Shadow Tower, Lord Commander Mormont meets with Qhorin Halfhand to prepare a new strategy.
- Qhorin informs Mormont that Mance Rayder intends to breach the wall somehow and they must be prepared.
- The Lord Commander approves of small ranging groups to be sent out for scouting purposes, one of which includes jon Snow.
