Second day. We recently talked about a survey that was done about the worst things that you could possibly do on a first date, and the second worst was meeting the family. Oh yeah, which I guess it is a big no no to introduce mom and dad to the person you're going out with. I won't even tell you what number one was, who was meeting Brooks family get away? Yeah, definitely don't want to do that on the I think that they're a big selling point of dating me. Thank
you very much. You know, the wedding day was like Russia, Russia, But when it comes to meeting the fam, don't think our listener Jackie got the message because that's exactly what happened on her dates. So Jackie, welcome to the show and tell us about the guy you traumatize. What's his name? Oh my god, I didn't think I traumatized, but maybe I did. His name is Paul. Do you live with your parents? Is that what's going on here? No? I don't.
But you know I'm the only daughter, which makes me his only sister, right, Okay, okay, which makes you a real big focus of attention, is what you're saying. And I love it. I love it that far when it comes to date. All right, okay, so how did this happen? How did your family end up meeting Paul? So here's the deal. I met Paul online and he wanted to take me out an Alazal game, and so we talked
about where to go on a date. And apparently Paul likes Italian food, and so he suggested an Italian restaurant. This all sounds pretty, you know, normal, but yeah, great first date too. Italian restaurant. Kind of romantic as it would have it though, my dad and my brother they actually own a restaurant and it is an Italian restaurant. I'm in love with you. Now, can I eat for free? Papa John's is her actual papa? That would be a no,
oh my god? Wait so that I mean just even you suggesting that you know that your family is going to meet this date like free? Well, okay, so a couple of things. So after he agreed to go there, I did say perhaps we could eat for free. But you know what, He's turned out to be a really classic guy, and I loved that because he's like, listen, I don't want to eat for free, I'll pay. And I love that because you show that he wasn't a
free lover. Right, yea's business. That's a good thing. Off. Like, have you taken first dates to your family's restaurant before, Well none of them like the Italian food either, so you know what I mean. Yeah, And so here's the thing. I told my family that we were going to be there, and I told him, Hey, guys just standing back, are you kidding? So how does it go when you guys actually show up to the restaurant. Well, first of all, can I tell you just how impressed I was with Paul.
He was just really nice. He was really cute. So once he's there, they wrote. When I say they, I'm talking about the restaurant's staff, they rolled out the VIP treatment and we even get to sit at the reserve table, you know, the one that's reserved for special guests. Daughter normally the president sits, hereticks I got you boom exactly. So it was it was really nice. We were having fun, you know, we connected, we were laughing, it was a little flirting going on. And then my dad and my
brother comes out to meet Paul. Yeah. Right, if you didn't meet you don't take him to the restaurant. So how does that go? Well, you know, they've always been a little protective of nations. I'm the only daughter, only sister, right, but this time they were just kind of overly obnoxious about it. My brother even came out with a me clear so cliche, it asked cliche, right, but it happened, and he just kept kind of kitting it inside of his hand as he was talking to father. I though
he was trying to joke. It was so funny because the food came out and they just kept needling him, right, And Dad said that the secret ingredient in the ragusas was from my ex boyfriend. I mean, that's actually kind of funny. Tastes a little tough, but yeah, I don't have to worry about him now. And guys just love poking fun of we're able to actually like get the date back on track. You Well, after the needling went on from far too long, they finally got the hint
and went back in the back. But after that, Paul was being a little reserved and he wasn't a flirty. Yeah, were you regretting suggesting your own family's restaurant for the date? Well, I wasn't necessarily regretting it. It was feeling a little awkward, but I thought, okay, you know he's this is a matur guy. He gets it. But then when we got ready to say goodbye, I turned to look and there was my brother looking out the window. Or he's into some weird stuffy kids are good yea, well, while Paul's
his car. There was no no kiss or anything. But he got in his car and he left, and so I went back in, and of course I let my brother and my dad, I let him have it. Yeah, but the biggest thing is that I've called Paul that he's not been very responsive since then. I think they scared him all. Yeah, because I like him and I don't think there was time for anything else to go wrong. Yeah, let's find out. We're gonna play a song. We'll come back. We'll call Paul for you and try and get your
second date up date. Okay, on second you know in cooking, how they say you mix in a little love with a little sugar, spice everything nice. That's what we're doing today, baking up a tasty second date, or should I say second date, because we're talking with Jackie, whose family owns an Italian restaurant, and she made the mistake of bringing her date there. First date tolder, dad and brother do not come out from the back. What did you stay there?
Another mistake. You're just egging him on in that place, which of course they did come out anyway. Yeah, and jokingly made a few threats, and now Paul is not calling her back. Her brother was just staring at them from the window as they walked to the car, window holding literally seriously. So afterwards, Paul has been a little bit hesitant to reach out, maybe understandably, Jackie. You don't think he's actually sleeping with the fishes right now? I
hope not. Yeah, Okay, I know you said Paul isn't calling you back, but I also know you went in and like just reamed your dad and your brother. Did they apologize for their behavior? They did. They apologize to me because you know they love me, and they were like, what are you talking about? We were just kidding with the guy. Guy that can't take that and maybe doesn't deserve to be really good. He just went too far. Almost like during the break I was almost thinking the
same thing. I'm trying to think of their perspective, and I'm like, look, as a brother. If he can't take an honest joke knowing that, hey, we're gonna be like the joke was too long. I know, but I'm just saying I could also see that you don't want a guy who takes everything so serious as one Yeah, you can't take a few threats against his life on the first date. Let's see what Paul has to say. We're gonna give him a call and see if he even answers. Be ready, I am all right? Here we go. Hello. Hey,
is this Paul? Yes it is that's calling. Hey, Paul. I'm happy to hear you're alive. My name is jeff from the radio show Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Mm Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. That's what I said. Oh, let's how are you guys doing today? Hi, Paul. Can't tell if you're familiar with us or not, but we're doing sometim It's just the first time I've had a radio show called me am. I am I getting punked.
I got Ashton because you're on the line. That is like a fifteen year old reference twenty year old saying twenty five. Sorry. Our producers in the back we haven't done punking on our show since Brooks first days in radio. Well, this is something called a second date update, and we're trying to get you in touch with one of our listeners named Jackie. Oh. Okay, you remember going out with Jackie not too long ago. I couldn't forget her for more than one reason. Okay, Oh is that I don't know?
It could be. I mean it definitely from her description, sounds like it was a very memorable night for both of you. That's say, in the least, it was. It was a unique experience. Okay, we've heard a little bit about the experience. Why don't you tell us what it was like from your perspective. Well, to start out, it was great. I mean, we had very good conversation and a little bit of flirting and stuff, and then her dad comes out with probably the biggest butcher knife I've
ever seen. Her dad had a knife too. Yeah, like both of them, her dad and her big brother. So we spoke to Jackie a little bit before this, and she did mention that her family came out and were they were being a little bit aggressive, but in a jokey way, like it was all supposed to be. At first It did kind of seem like a joke because the dad was real. He was smiling and joking, and he kind of like tapped me on the shoulder and
he's like, oh, you know, you'll be fine. And the brother then made like a joke about the saw, something about the secret ingredient was parts left over from the ex boyfriends or something, and it was funny. I chuckled until I looked up at him and I felt like I was in that the scene, the garage scene from Den of Thieves where all the guys are just standing around the boyfriend and like, I just I kind of got this. You're really great with the references that everybody
will do. But it sounds like somebody got killed in the movie. Yeah, okay, it was very scary, so yeah, but I think that was the point. It was supposed to be a little bit intimidating and it was supposed to just kind of make you laugh. Well, I mean, if it would have ended right there, I think it would have been great. But a few days went by and I get a notification on my phone. It's my ring doorbell and it's her brother. What at your at
your apartment? Yes? And at my apartment Oh. I don't know how he found out where I lived, but I was terrified. Are you sure that it was them? I would never forget that face in that window? Seriously, what did you do? Did you call the cops? I would call the cops. I just I just went to my room and I acted like I wasn't home. I don't. I don't even think that Jackie knows that even happened, because she didn't mention anything to us about Oh. I would have hit her up and been like, what the
hell is going on? Jackie? Dogs off? Oh? I honestly, I've been a little scared to answer reply to any of her text Did they not want me to contact her? Do they want me to contact her? I'm scared to do anything. I mean, maybe we should just ask her that, because I need to tell you Jackie's been on the other line listening this entire time, and she wants to talk to you. Okay, Oh my god, yeah, sorry? Did I just put you in danger? Paul? My bad? That's what you as Jackie probably be able to answer that
a little bit better than me. Yeah, j Hi, Paul, what the hell Jackie? Did you did you know that they did that? No? And I'm sitting here like with my eyes as wide as flying soulciers in my mouth a gape. I mean, are you serious and kidding? They came to your house. I'll send you the video footage. I saved it. Why do I hear a smile in Jacko and said, like, what the how would they know
his address? Jackie? No, No, guys, what happened is I gave them a hard time about giving him a hard time, and it's I was like, you guys have got to call him and apologize. Okay, call and apologize. So why would they need his address to call and apologize? Jackie? I know that because they loved me, that they wanted to make this right for me, but not they're right for me, but for Paul. That is crazy, Jackie. Listen to yourself. That is nuts. Okay, I know it totally
seems crazy, right, but listen, my brother is harmless. He's a little passionate, but really he's just like a big teddy Bears. About the impression that you got from them, Paul, teddy bear standing at your front door, Um, how I wouldn't use teddy Bear. I would probably say grizzly bear, come on, come on, and I think that's a little extreme. I don't really think you are that freaking sensitive, is so, Jackie?
I love me. Well, Jackie, you know you weren't there, but your brother's pounding on the door, saying, hey, you go, I know you're in there. I see your car. He's like, pound, you better answer my sister's calls, and he's screaming, I'm sorry. He was screaming, you better call my sister back right now. Grab the tomatoes on the oregular. We gotta make this guy impossible. Listen, Guys, I mean, I know it sounds crazy, but that's just kind of the way he is. He's
just a big, jokey kind of guy. How many felonies does your brother have? Not that I know, Oh god, they're all misdemeanors. I'm sure that if if we all came back to the restaurant, he could all put this thing together there, Jackie. I don't want to be offensive here, but any mob movie that I've ever seen that's a couple like Italian guys are a little bit pushy, ends with somebody at the bottom of a lake not getting
a second date at the ifs. Does anyone else want to check on the axe that could possibly be should taste that raggedy sauce. But maybe this week we can do a little bit of a different ending here, because Paul, I got an offer that you can't refuse. Go on another date with our beautiful listener Jackie, or somebody's legs might end up broken. Do a little spring cleaning. I'm kind of afraid to say no, Paul, say no, say no, Paula. Paul, you really shouldn't say no, trust me. Oh, Paul, what
do you say? Second date with Jackie? Yeah, Jackie, I guess I'll go out with you again? What dude? Yes, the right choice, Paul. It'd be good to see you, real fun to see you on the menu at the restaurant and Jeffrey in the morning. Probably one of the most intense second date updates that I can remember doing. Can we do wellness track some people? Can we check in with this guy and make sure he's okay? Well?
Probably should. After we recorded that segment, Jackie actually emailed us and said thank you for getting them another date with Paul, and she promised to send over a free gift card to her family's rest Thank you. One of us is so hungry we might actually show up. I mean, if it's Olive Garden, I'm down because then they're Italian food. Jose, you could end up getting Jackie to fall in love with you while you're there. You got a new brother in law, Grizzly Bear and Papa Bear teaming up free
pasta for life. At least I won't die alone. Yeah, they're and a belly full of by guess that's a positive way to look at it. I'm all in, but we will try and get an update from them. Yeah, I don't want him to turn into the meatball special run the menu. It's so crazy. It was so crazy that Jackie didn't feel like I know. That was the weirdest part for sure. Families Italian, that may be more
normal for you. But anyway, if you want to hear any of our second dates, you can always find them Brooke and Jeffrey on Spotify or wherever you get your podcast. We do a bunch of them every single week, and then email us if you'd like to get a second date update done for yourself. Yes, for sure. Broke and Jeffrey in the Morning
