I say, Keawy comspil hotline. Bring on Roby Bean from CBS. Romie, how are you doing this evening? I'm doing great. Are you trusting anybody with your banking information? Like Showhei did with his U with his interpreter. Look, all I'm saying is, even if you're getting a seven hundred million dollars paycheck, you're not gonna notice that even five is gone. Yeah I did. The whole thing is literally he lost the entire Oakland Athletics payroll
gambling. No, I mean it's just this. There's no way he didn't know, and Major League Baseball will make sure that show he stays in the league and nothing happens. I mean, come on, right, like this is the face of baseball. But the whole thing is very fishy, very fishy. Well was detially on is roamy. And when professional sports started to get into bed with these sports book agencies, what did they think was gonna
happen? Look at what was happening with the NFO, and now the trickle down of the fact of what's happening in the NBA and the possibility, uh player, Maybe I guess I want to say throwing games based on you know what people were wagering from the over and under. I mean, didn't we anticipate that this was gonna happen when you opened Pandora's Box? I mean yeah, I think it's I think that they've done their best, if you will, to regulate it. And the NFL is certainly levied some very heavy fines
on guys. I mean that are suspended right for seasons or Oasriquez just indefinite right, I mean that, But you open that Pandora's box. It's the same thing with nil guys, like how do you You can't reel it back in? Right? Like you hear the story about that point guard or the center whoever it was at Kansas who went and said he wanted a million bucks and Kansas said, we'll give you seven hundred fifty k. Like it's out the bag now. I don't know how you reel it in. I don't
know how you regulate it. And so it's I mean, I don't know, you know, I think they levy those heavy punishments. Maybe guys will listen, but apparently they don't. So I think, yeah, the NFL has guidelines that they put out. It wasn't Rinquez eligible for reinstatement in July. I believe, but it's you know, it's it's it's it's permeating the league and there are to me, I don't understand not being clear on the
rules, but apparently there are players who are unclear on the rules. We saw, you know, Calvin Ridley and all that kind of stuff happen as well. At the end of the day, I mean, I go, am I to tell somebody what to do with their money. We get a lot of text on here, well why do you guys advocate for it? And I'm like, I don't I have a gate for any of it. I mean I did. I did endorse BET and GM. I had an in the interest of old disclosure, I had an endorsement to deal with them
for a while. But I don't advocate for anything. You do what you want with your money. I'm not gonna tell you what to do or don't do. Don't don't tell me what to do or don't do with mine, and we'll keep it even. But the only thing I think that we're concerned about is what has happened with for instance, Michael Porter Junior's little brother jon Te Porter, where he found the the one way to game the system for your boys, and that's tell your buddies to go put a bunch of money
on the unders on things. I'm gonna fake an injury and I'm gonna get out of here, and all the unders are gonna cash. Yeah. I mean, at the end of the day, you're depending on guys to,
you know, uphold the integrity of the game as they call it. You're you know, there's you can lay out the rules and you can tell these guys not to do it, and I think most of them won't, but there's really nothing you can do when it comes to human nature and that you know, ninth guy out of ever, the one guy out of every ten thinks he can bend the rules or get away with it. And it is mind boggling to me when you're making that much money and you have that much
opportunity to just throw it all away. But you know, they don't think they're going to get caught. And I think again, you're just you're to use the that's right word. You're gambling on them to do the right thing. Yeah. Not to pivot too hard here, but this has been an interesting month for sports overall, as women's college basketball eclipsed the basketball world.
You look at the ratings, and Caitlin Clark's certainly largely responsible, though I think great teams from from South Carolina and Daniel LSU and the rivalry there. I think that all help boeth that a little bit. But does that carry forward because we have a w NBA team that is already changing venues and locations to try to make sure that Caitlin Clark games are larger venues to cash in
on this. You know, this is so funny. I was talking about this with someone today and I'm curious to see if it's going to continue forward or not. I think initially it will, right like you see that the Aces are moving over to T Mobile Arena for that game already, and everyone's announcing. I mean, the CBS just announced it renewed partnership with WNBA and the ESPN and ABC. I think thirty nine of the forty fever games are
gonna be nationally televised or something like that. So I think initially it will doesn't have staying power. I mean, that's always the question, right I think it's like anything else, this is this is a moment for the WNBA, for for women's basketball specifically, and it's what you do going forward, right. You have to keep You can't just sit on your laurel, so
to speak. Right, So, what what are they going to do next to keep intentifizing people to keep wanting to keep watching the game, or does it just have enough star power now that it's only going to keep building. I'm very curious. I don't know what the answer to that is. Right now, it certainly has a great amount of star power and it's a whole lot of fun, and you hope they can continue it. I just think it's going to be interesting to see, like mid season when you revisit this
the WNBA is there's still as much hype. I don't know, but you know, I hope there will be speaking to that. I think every hero needs a villain, and when you look at women's basketball, that's kind of
one of those things that propelled it to the forefront. But last night here in Denver, there was some villains coming into you know, the ball arena, and that was the t Wolves, and there was this simulcas as ESPN they do all the time, but it was on ESPN two and Kevin Hart was sitting with Cedric the entertainer, and he has some very interesting things to say about NICOLEA. Yaks. I want you to take a listen. They cannot give Joker anymore VP. No get a Joker anymore m vps. It's
not good in the NBA. Joker cannot win another VP's just v P. That's different. That's playing, that's that's playing the game. But but the league m v P. I feel like you're right, like they can't really do that at this moment. And a great year, but it doesn't it doesn't feel like that dominant year the way I would say says you made a very great man. You know what I decided with you, Kevin, You just did it. You just sold me anybody thanks to everybody else. Now
that that was Kevin Hard talking with Cedric Danner, tainer. But I found that really interesting because the m v P is one of those most talked about, you know, accolades that are given the sports athletes. And I feel and maybe I've made feel a little biased. And you tell me based on I've seen do here, right, Kevin haight, excuse me on point when he just said, well, it's not going to be a good thing for the NBA to give it to Nicole Jokic over shy Gilgas Alexander. No,
he's absolutely wrong. The definition of an MVP is, first of all, you can look up at Joki's numbers, right, I think he just passed Will for you know, however, I think he starred most now on a sist all time for senators. I mean, he's always doing something. You know, He's always in the history books for this, that or the other. But the definition of an MVP is someone who makes everyone around him better.
And you look at last night and you have got Christian Brown doing these crazy dugs and Peyton Watson having big games, and you know who was ever on the floor of Nikolaokicic looks like a superstar, Right, What does Christian Brown look like on another team? I still think he talented, but he met Nicola makes every single person on that team better. Look at Aaron. Aaron Gordon's career was like almost dying out in the Magic here. He's the
perfect fit. He's got this incredible chemistry with the Koliokic. I mean, there's it's undeniable to me that I think that what gets lost in the MVP is who makes It's not just the individual numbers, but it's who makes everyone around them better. And that's why I think Nathan mckinna should win the MVP too, because if you look at the other guys that are in contention for the Art Trophy, the difference is Mac has his whole line is super productive
as well. Everyone around him is getting better, is doing better, is putting up big numbers. That to me, is such a big piece of what an MVP should do and should be. So I think that there's some other things to this. I think Kendrick Perkins started a whole thing last year and if there was so much just hate and vitriol and it it was terrible. But I don't know. I don't know how you can watch Nakoliokic on
a daily basis. And again I think this is usually people who don't watch Nikoliokic on a daily basis because you can't get it and it's hard to see it on TV and this, that or the other. But when it comes to the playoffs, everybody's watching them and then all of a sudden, every really like, oh wow, he's the best player in the world. So I think it's it's part of that as well. But no I like Kevin Hart, you do not like this? Take it off? Well? Who
knew Kevin Hart could be hilarious? You know, I think it was that funny. And then he said that, I was like, wow, okay, oh, I'm being told he's not joking. Yeah. First of all, MVPs are earned. They're not they're given. You know, they're awarded, but they're awarded based on and Nicole Yakice continues to earn it, and I don't know, he's saying, it's bad for the NBA for a player, Oh, it's bad for the NBA to think that you have to force
the award to someone who deserves it less. And then to me, it felt like, uh, with with the embat situation, they almost did that because they didn't want back to back to back Nicola Jokic because you know of the of the connotation there, and I feel like that's stupid. I mean, at the at the end of the day, it's here in the award, give it to him and move on about your day. Right, I don't know why. You're absolutely right it should go to the best player in
the league. And it's very clear who the why you're in the league is so I'm not sure why that would be bad for the league in any ways, it's really not a good take. Well he is what Ben and I were kind of going back and forth, and you know, he let the cat out of the bag, and I think he just changed his answer for
the sake of the conversation. But I asked him, I said, well, with the Masters of you know, being played, what's just harder to do winning a Master's or winning a gold jacket and becoming a Hall of Famer in football? Well, I don't know how many people have won the Masters historically, how many years as the Master there's three hundred something Hall of Famers. I guess you could look at it that way. I don't know that's
that's that's really tough. That's that's debating. I don't know that's actually really really tough. I think the thing one thing with golf that's so tough is it's such a mental game because you're by yourself. I mean, yeah, you got your caddy, but you got to win that all by yourself a lot of times. A Hall of famer who certainly lifts his team up a lot, but you do have the team around you right to support you. A lot of time. So I think in that essence it's it's really hard,
but I don't know. I don't feel like there's a right answer to this one. That's thought you were going to ask me, Like, I don't know, I don't know. That's yeah, I'm kind of it took me a minute there. I'm like, for by the math, I think, you know, maybe statistic it's the same way if somebody asked you if winning the lottery or climbing Mount Everest was harder, Like, obviously physically climbing Mount Everest is is more difficult, but statistically speaking, it's more difficult to
win the lottery than climb Mount Everst. Yeah, I just think sometimes you'll watch these guys, like some of the best golfers in the world, and you can just see them like mentally crumble. It's it's the individual part of it I think makes it a little bit more challenging to win on your own. But there's no one's trying to hit you, rob no one. You're just out there and are with people watching sweating. If you have you you
know you're familiar with the Georgia heat. Yes, a minute, that's just like you're gonna tell me like the sports individuals, those are actual athletes. That's what you have to tell as a driver. I'm actually gonna amend my answer, but for a different reason. Okay, it's harder to become a Hall of Famer because even if you have the best career, you are now at the liberty of this voting committee, so you can put everything. At golf, you win that message because you won and you've had the best,
you know, four rounds out of anyone. But with the Hall of Amer, we see this a lot. There's a lot of guys that probably should be in there, but it's up to the mercy of a committee, and it's out of your hands once you've retired. So that is a whole nother wrench in things that I think makes it harder because there's so many pieces you can't control. So you're saying this a gold jacket, right, I'm going to say it's the goal jacket. Thank you, Thank you, Robbie.
I see you year two under coach Prime, if they sold something like eighteen thousand, I think tickets for the for the spring game. Is this is this a year where CU has to deliver on wins? Or is this you know, is this still just a building project for for coach Prime at this point. I don't think the building project because I think it's a very real question of how long he may stay for and nobody really knows that answer.
But the way he's constructed this team, which is primarily through the transfer portal, has been is a win now model, and he's not been hasn't been shy about that. He said, that's exactly why it is. It's why he doesn't have a lot of freshmen. So if you're going to go by that model, then yeah, you got to win now. That's the whole essence of the way this team was constructed. And I think off of last year you went in and filled a lot of holes from that wasn't there,
particularly in the trenches. The wide receiver room is obviously stacked an insane level, so you seem to have a lot more pieces. I think it is it's a win this year type of the thing. Does that mean how many you got to win? More than last year? For sure? But this is not this is not really a long term building project. This is certainly a win now model, right and we look forward to seeing that along with kind of the cultural epicenter that coaches created here in Colorado and seeing if that
translates into wins. Whether or not that will er won't remains to be seen. Romy We appreciate the time Roby Bean, sports anchor reporter at CBS News Colorado. Always appreciate having you on.
