Rashi explains that just as a snake’s venom spreads from the foot to the skull, financial distress caused by interest escalates until it overtakes a person’s life. Rebbe Nachman teaches that ribit stems from anxiety and lack of emunah, blocking Hashem’s blessings. The word neshech (interest) hints at this danger, combining nun (50, symbolizing Keter, the highest spiritual level) and shach (320, representing harsh judgments). The antidote to this spiritual and financial entrapment is simcha—joy in serving Hashem.
