Yaakov's secret in receiving the vision/dream of the ladder etc. is specifically because he maintained the attitude of not knowing - meaning, he knew that the key to perceive the Infinite Light (the highest level of awareness of Hashem) is specifically through the bounce backs in life which create a "not-knowing" attitude and situation etc.
