Episode description

He is rightfully celebrated for his groundbreaking work in jazz and funk drumming, most notably with Herbie Hancock's band, The Headhunters. His grooves, particularly on the song "Actual Proof" from the 1974 album Thrust, and "God Make Me Funky," are some of the most widely sampled beats in hip-hop history. Even though he's known for funk, he's also a jazz musician who has performed and recorded with numerous jazz legends, including Chet Baker, Tony Bennett, Wayne Shorter, and Christian McBride, as well as being a bandleader and author.
