In 2013, Garland Vance not only was burning out but also experiencing significant physical problems. When I went to my doctor to find out what was happening, he told me that I was "stressed out" because I was so busy. I was working on my doctorate in leadership and started researching how busyness was affecting high capacity leaders and what could be done about it (for their sake and my own). That research resulted in a very practical book, Gettin’ (un)Busy: 5 Steps to Kill Busyness and Live with Purpose, Productivity, and Peace. In the book, I discuss how busyness and burnout are connected. I'd love to share with your audience the danger of one of the most common causes of burnout -- an over-commitment to too many good commitments -- and the simple steps they can take to beat busyness.
