Episode description

Hi Listeners! Happy 2017! In the first segment, Ryan and Dave talk about what they did over the holidays. It has been two weeks since the last episode and they missed the listeners a lot. They also talk about some insightful crowdfunding tips from Chris Robley from a recent "DIY Musician" blog post and give an update on the Phillip Phillips lawsuit that may get the American Idol star a little closer to a positive outcome against his former management company. The Phillip Phillips case serves as a useful reminder to all musicians when considering bringing a manager into their career: You cannot let the manager control you. You always have to be the boss. Your manager manages your career, but should not manage you.In the second segment, entertainment lawyer and Artist Empowerment founder Jo-Na Williams stops by. She discusses some legal pitfalls that indie artists should try to avoid and also gives some great advice on managing burnout and taking care of yourself as a human being. You can find out more about her work by visiting www.artistempowerment.co. and www.jo-nawilliams.com.In the final segment, Ryan and Dave talk about recent updates with the Star Trek Axanar lawsuit. They also do some Golden Globes talk and Metal Dave does a quick drop-in to mourn the death of his favorite metal music magazine.Thank you all very much for listening!
