Welcome to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio, and we're here for another great week, beginning with Box thirteen. I'm now I've on the Dragnet show. I've received feedback that it's important to a lot of people that we get the right dates on the show. So we get a date on the show. Um, well, if it hadn't been for Dennis's Box thirteen log at Digital Delhi it's Digital Delhi ftp dot com, we would have had the wrong

dates. One of the challenges with Box thirteen is that it aired out East and on a mutual affiliate, and then it was syndicated across the country, so there were a lot of air dates. However, Dennis has tracked down the first and original air dates and so we made sure the dates reflected reality. And it's nice. He does some pretty good research over there in terms

of getting the dates to align exactly. Unfortunately, he hasn't gotten to every show, so for some we just have to go with the prevailing information, which is pretty close to right. Usually it's not as precise as the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July fourth, seventeen seventy six, but it'll

do. Before we get started. I want to encourage you if you want to have great hosting or even just to get a good deal on a great second to main domain, check out our host one on one and also help to support the great detectives of Old Time Radio. Go to Hosting dot Great Detectives dot net. But without any further ado, let's go ahead and get into our seventh episode of Box thirteen. Box thirteen with a style of theoramone

pictures Alan lad As Dan Holiday box thatteen box, thatteen box that. He looked deeply into her eyes, which reflected his mood, like twin legs as you're blue, as you're blue. Why does a woman always have to have as your eyes? Why couldn't there be fire engine red? As his muscular arms tightened around her, fragile susie it, mister Holiday, I'm not fragile, but I'm sure scared. Somebody's been following me with those legs. Why

not? I was petrified, afraid to look back. Even his footstep kept going quick cluck, clickcluck, real sinster like, Oh I better him now, mister click cluck, Oh, mister Holiday. He followed me all away from Box thirteen and now box thirteen, starring Alan Ladd as Dan Holiday. Well, this is a brand new twist beside a message from Box thirteen. Susie has brought a mysterious caller, somebody who wants in but definitely don't as written mister Holiday. No, no, Susie, if you didn't see this

person, huh no, I just sell him. Phone me like a like a fantom. It gets the heels with click clock click cluck. That doesn't sound so dangerous. Let's take a chance. Come in, Oh selling me. I ought to be ashamed for being such a fraidy cat. Look who it is, well, Susie, who is it? I don't know who are you? Mister? My name is George Flint. I'm a detective and you're Dan Holiday Delight. It's it's on the door a detective. Uh are isn't any bigger than me. But I have nerves of steel in the heart

of a lion. Oh oh, I see. And what brings you here, mister Flint? Well, nerves of steel, heart of a lion. That was no fair girl. You took me by surprise, Susie. Now, mister Flint, why don't you open the envelope I put in box thirteen. Here it is, mister Holiday. Oh thanks, open it. I'm all gooseler. Okay, Oh what do you know why there's nothing written on the paper? How about that? See how clever I am? I put

that envelope in box thirteen as bait at day. Yes, I knew it would lead me to the person who put the ad in the Star Times event you wanted? Will you're any place and do anything? Very clever, mister FLETTA Oh what made your footsteps go? Quick? Cluck? Quick? Clock of that? I lost the metal creed off one of my heel. Oh well, now that you've discovered me, mister Flett, what mister Holiday, I'd say you're just a man for the job. Job something exciting you?

Hope? Permit to Holiday. I'd handle it myself. Only I'm so tiny. Besides, I've done mostly divorce work. Just the right height for keyholes. But about the job, well, I'm coming to that. Mister Gilbert Boat and sent me fifty dollars just to attend the party tonight. Fifty dollars. I should have been the detective. Oh you can be. I'll split with you if you'll go to the affair in my place, asked me, I got the money. What's the catch? Oh, there's really no catch.

H only thing, mister Bolton said, What then might be a little er bloodshed? Well, well, well this holiday is the wackiest situation yet from good old Box thirteen. Yes, holiday, you must be hard up for story ideas, hard up for brains too. Otherwise, why are you riding with George Flint detective and his hot rod Jalopy destination bloodshed? And you've never met this bold as having the party? No, but he phoned and explained that the party's going to be at his nephew's place, at Kenneth Bolton

Kenneth, huh uh? What about the bloodshed? Well, as I understand it, Kenneth's father, that is, Gilbert Bolton's brother, committed suicide. Not show, don't go oh Yobert said, the boy is suffering from neurasthinia. I think he said it's like on Eurotic huh oh, yes, on account of the way his father died, you'bet's afraid the boy may take his own life tonight? Why tonight especially? Well, it seems that Kenneth drinks

a lot at these parties and gets depressed. And my job is to see that he doesn't commit suicide tonight, I looked forward to more pleasant evenings. I think that's to place up ahead with all the lights on. Yeah, that's the address you mentioned. We must be about fifteen miles in town at fourteen and seven tenths by mice beinar here, Well, flet, I may as well take off. What are you gonna do? Oh, I'll sit here in my car and listen to the radio. Sorry, they keep my

eye on things from the outside. Good idea, say later, then here we go again, Holidays. The name's George Flitt, detective. Remember beyond this door, who knows, but it's a beautiful huns, a beautiful knight, and a beautiful girl. Good evening, Oh, good evening. I'm looking for mister Gilbert Bolton. Won't you come in and you are a George Flitt? You say you are George Flint. That's right. I am Rita Martin. How do you do? Now? Let's go in and find Gilbert

Bolton, mister Fliff. Oh Holiday, here's a jungle cat, a vampire rid of Terry and the Pirates, that jet black hair, those heavy littered eyes, that glistening crimson mouth, and something else. Yes, a clawing, sensuous, a perfume such as you've never known before. That's something to remember. This reader Martin by m Gilbert. Yes, return Gilbert Bolton. This is George Flt. How do you do, mister Flint, mister Bolton, If you'll excuse me, gentlemen, I'll see you all a bit later.

So your George Flint, the detective. Yes, that's right. Your voice seemed well different over the phone. Well, you know, detectives many disguised as many voices, got to keep him confuse, you know, somehow I picked at you differently. Oh well, no matter, you know why you're here. Yes, to keep my eye on your nephew, and of Polton. More than that, to keep him from chilling himself. The way this man looks at you holiday so cool, so calculating with piercing eyes,

a thud against the back ear skull. He could be one of two men, a man of distinction or a man of extinction. Okay, mister Bolton, now kicking f you alive, that's your job. But what makes you think the boy wants to commit suicide? Well, since his father, my brother, took his life, Kenneth has been extremely upset. It's only natural, mister Bolton. I know, but I've heard Kenneth threatened suicide and it's got me worried. Anyone else heard him? Yes, Miss Martin, anyone

else? What do you mean anyone else? I just wanted if anyone else that heard him make these threats, I really wouldn't know. It's enough that Rita and I know about it. How does read a figure in this picture? Aren't you being a bit presumptuous, mister Flitt? A detective likes to know these things. Miss Martin is an old friend of the family. Oh, there's Kenneth now, I'll bring him over. Just as Gilbert Fulton passed me. There was something familiar about him. What was it? Who wasn't

I want to thank holiday? Maybe an important clue. And here they come, a man of extinction and a typical boy from Princeton or Yale, Harvard. George Flint, my nephew, Kenneth Bolton got to meet you. How do you do? I'm enjoying yourself, mister Flint, very much. How about you? Oh? So so his parties get to be a boy. Kenneth hasn't been quite himself since the tragedy. Must you always bring that up on. But you know you've been terribly upset, Kenneth, So I've been

upset. Why talk about it? Oh, mister Flint, Yes, will you come with me for a moment? Am I sure? Too close in here that I've thought a breath of there? It suits me in the garden, the garden, it is hm nice a moon too, lovely, lovely night sand to those flowers. Thanks scars, it isn't it? But not to compare with your perfume. You noticed it, Yes, it was so unusual. It's called whispering gown. Whispering gown. I like the name. Say I know where they got that name. I'm so no de Bergack.

The passage very describes rock sand across my life. One whispering silken gown. I was lovely. You're quite literary. I actually used to flit well, yes, no, just what do you do? Gilbert Bolton didn't tell you no, no, But let's sit on this ben and you tell me all about yourself. As you come close to her, you get another whiffo. Suddenly you've got it. That's what bothered you about Gilbert Bolton. Her perfume rubbed off on him. It is an old friend of the family. She's

young and a close friend of Gilbert Bolton's. She's brought you out here for a reason. Well, aren't you going to sit down? Oh? I sure, but just a middle I want Barto cigarettes. I've not for any of cigarettes. I'll be right back. Something about this whole setup is as phony as a china egg, and as the crooks in your story say about a case of joint before you go inside. Yeah, there's a window. Let's pull the bushes back, let's take a gander. Well, everything looks

on the upper end. Kenneth with a drink on the table beside him, and there's his uncle coming up. Hmm, he said, another full drink right beside Kenneth. Hey, what else is he doing? You'd better get in the holiday in fast mind if I I join your gentlemen. I'm not at all, not at all. You appeared quite suddenly. Careful drink, mister Flint. You know I haven't touched this. No, No, let me fix mister Flint a fresh tray. I think I'll just have one of

these our dirts. Okay, what's it my drink? Oh, I'm I'm sorry, flit you you walk idiot? Oh excuse me. Yeah's accidents will happen. I didn't really feel like another drink is your idea? Remember, well, mister Glad, we were able to borrow some cigarettes. I was am voiced by our dirts. Glad you're here, Rita, I have a proposal to make it. What say we all run up to my penthouse for a while. It sounds good? What do you say, miss Flint? Fine? I think a change of scenery would be nice. You'll enjoy the

view overlooking green Hill part from the penthouse. Mister Flint. Oh good? What's the address? I tell you what, mister Flint, Rita, Kenneth and myself will go ahead in my car. Here you can follow us and your well, maybe i'd better go with mister Flint, keeping coming. No, I'd like you with me, Kenneth. There's something I want to discuss with you important. Perhaps I should have the address in case I lose you.

It won't be necessary. Just follow me. Of course, Holiday, you could be wrong, but it looks like Gilbert Bolton isn't too anxious to have you find his pet. Hef and that's you're a suspicious lad. Holiday. You've created so many diabolical characters for so many fiendish plots. Maybe you maybe you've become a little TechEd. Times are wasted. Holiday, get to our phone. H there it is end of the hallway. Now Maxim duty in the Morga The Star Times. We'll ask a few questions. Start Dyer's

reference room. Hello, mack Down Holiday, Ah, Jenny, what can I do you? Boy? So you got anything on the Boltle suicide? Just file those clips away yesterday. And even if this is a clips joint, I won't judge you a penny clips joint. Did you get it? Dan? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I get it? What about Bolton poison itself? Left all his daughter, his son name m Kenneth, anything else? Well, I want something about Bolton's brother guilt, but he's sort

of taking over and helping the boy. It was pretty broke up. Hey did hey'd you hang up? No? But someone did? Someone was listening on another extension. Hey, this is the fast hot rod I've ever driven. We're keeping right up with a Bolton and he's doing seventy Wait until you shift into high gear. Where are we going? The pothouse? I hope Gilbert Boltons. What happened at the party? Oh Rita Martin? Try to get me into the garden. I got suspicious trying to keep you away from

your job, wasn't he? Yeah, So I rushed back into the house, stopping the case of joint through a window. Haste the joint A detective talking. Then I got an trouble with Bolton. Wow, I'm knocking a drink from his nephew's hand. What did the uncle do? Got insulting, Then all of a suddenly suggested going to his pet huts. Watch it, watch it. He's slowing down. Yeah, I wonder what his idea is. He just slowing down with that train. But he only slowed down for

a second. Look at him, Go, I know what he's doing. He's trying to beat that train of the crossing. He's trying to lose us. Step burn the gas, step burn the gas. Mister Holliday. Okay, mister Holliday, are we going to make it? He made it, but I don't know about us. You are listening to Box thirteen starring Alan lad As Dan Holiday and now Back to Bucks thirteen starring Alan lad As Dan Holiday. Next time I walked such a close shave, I'll see my barber.

Yeah, me too, Josh mushed hot to day. I thought I could handle this hot run. But the way you whipped her off the road just short of throws chats not a scratch on her luck. Yes, that came must be a mile long by the time it passes. Bolton can be in Alaska. What's the address of just Paint House, you're asking me? All I know is that overlooks green Hill Park. Our next stop, well, George green Hill Park. I bet all these feelings have print houses.

We'll try them all until we hit the right one. I'll go around the side of the park, okay, and I'll try the buildings around the other side. Bolton's got to be in one. Do you have a mister Bolton in your penhouse? No? One here by that name from Bolton in the pant hoouse. No, but we have a Boxford in the basement. Why. Yes, mister Gilbert Bolton came in a short time ago. Hello, No, with a lady and gentlemen want to go up please? Did mister

Bolton say anything about expecting more guests? No, sir, Let me a favor. A little fellow with a squeaky voice shows up asking for Bolton. Tell him I'm here. Will you down holiday? Yes? Sir. Oh, here you are, Thank you, sir, your floor, sir. Watch the penthouse door over there, right, I've got a sneaking hunt. I won't be welcome. But how'd you get up here? You didn't expect me? Yes, yes, of course, but you go enjoy money you can well you can go home now. I'm sorry, miss Mard, but

mister Bolton hired me. It's up to him department, but he's not here. He and Kenneth both went out. May I come anyway? No? Goodbye? No? But now what does the intrepid a hero of my story still m He looks for another door like that one. He tries it. It's open, leads into a hallway and there's yet another door, the service entrance to Bolton's penthouse, and ten to one it's locked, bolted bard, maybe even nails shut. There's some gambler Holiday offer ten to one and lose

the doors open. Well, here we go again, quiet Holiday. There's a door leading to the terrace and voices, I get your hair up, Holiday, but don't let them see you. Don't you think it's a little chilly out here? Uncle, Let's go inside, hilly Kenneth, I'm really very timetable. Here's the view I was telling you about, Kenneth. Better lean over the rail a bit to see around that turret. Well, don't push against me, Uncle, that's a ten story drop. Now look over

there, Kenny, Uncle Gil Cann's driving the rail. Don't have to throw me back. I don't have an uncle throw your forward. The meaning of this outrage? How did you get in here anywhere? I'm going to call the police, fine and save me the trouble. Look, Kenneth, I was hired to keep you from committing suicide. Suicide, oh me, yeah, But instead I'm keeping you from being murdered. Feeling your coat pocket, Kenneth, he doesn't know what he's talking about. A bottle. It's mark

poison. Yeah, I saw your uncle Planet in your pocket through the garden window. He wanted to make it look like you poisoned that drink I knocked from your hands up right there, Holiday. This isn't a cap bestore you two, Kenneth. Don't move. It must be crazy Uncle Gil. And you knew I was Dan Holiday all along. Huh. Of course I've seen you a picture in the book with you pages, and I got to the telephone conversation at the star time on the extension you get around. I can't

believe this. You, you and my uncle. What's the play now? Bow? Well, first I walk over to Kenneth and knock him out with his guns. Don't more, Holiday, I've got you covered. Oh and now that you've knocked out your nephew, what's your next move, mister Holiday? Before I heave him over the rail to make it look like suicide, I'm going to shoot you. Oh fine, then I'll wipe my fingerprints off this gun and press my nephew's hand around the butt. His fingerprints on the

gun will prove his shot. Me huh, But what about a motive? Very simple. You tried to stop him from jumping off the terrace, and you're supposed to invent plots, mister Holiday. But they'll trace the gun to you Bolte. Oh no, it's Kenneth's gun. I took it from his room, and you wanted a detective on hand to throw off suspicion. Yes, mister Holliday, who suspect Gilbert of murder when he'd hired a detective to protect Kenneth? But why why do you want to kill your nephew? Let's

say I I borrowed quite a large sum. I can't make good oh, embezzelment huh. And you need Kenneth inheritance to keep out of jail when you lend you the money. Not farm we need we obviously, so taking it all clever a Holiday, you're killing me. You're so right. Get rid of whoever it is Rita. That doesn't help Holiday. Forget about writing the great American novel No room in a coffin for typing. I'm dying horridays here and nobody. I've got plenty of bullets. Welcome to the party, George.

Hello, mister Hartiday again, let me out of here, stop her out, sup? Thanks for this faction flip now, mister Gilbert Bolton, you know how your nephew feels well, I know how it feels to be on the right end of this Smith and Wesson. You knocked them out. What are you going to do? Do? Well? Since the party's getting dull, let's invite a few more boys, say from headquarters. This is

Box thirteen, starring Alan Ladd as Dan Holiday. Come in, Oh, mister Halliday's joosy, Mister George Flint detective, how's the armed mister Flint. Oh, it's you're fine. One of the bullets just grazed me. You know, I blad quite a lot day, Wasn't that awful? I'm trying to kill that boy and he really wasn't psycho? What's him to call it at all? Bolton cooked that up and support the suicide story. Oh what's going to happen to them, mister Holliday. Well, they've got Bolton for

embezzlement and attempted murder for holding Reda's accomplice. And she was such a beautiful girl and so sweet too. Yes, George, you can say that again. How's the rod hot these days? Mister Flint? Hot rod? Susie hot rod rod hot, red hot? Oh, how is it anyway? Red hot? Oh it's fine, as mister Harday, even if I did run away from that gun, I really do have the heart of a lion. But of course, George, the only thing is it's your steady fat

Land Next week, same time. Alan Ladd stars as Dan Holiday in Bach's thirteen. Alan Ladd appears through the courtesy of Paramount Pictures and may currently be seen in Wild Harvests. Box thirteen is directed by Ted Hettiger. Original music is composed and conducted by Rudy Schrager with an original story by Larry Kraft. The part of Susie is played by Sylvia Picker. This is a Mayfair production. Welcome Back, an exciting adventure from Dan Oliday. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The title, of course if you saw it, is a bit of a pun, and an easy pun at that. A short assignment. The one thing that's nice about the old time radio is if you can make a short voice, you can play a short actor. If you can make a tall voice, you can play a tall actor. And as as um and as there's a lot of variance in there. As long as you can be believable, you really have a lot more flexibility than you do on television because to

bend that line between short and tall you really needed some camera tricks. So no need for that here. Great episode, lots of fun. I'll I will look forward eagerly to next week's and of course to tomorrow. Please join us on Tuesday, Pat Novac for higher Up Ahead from Boise, Idaho. This is your host, Adam Graham. Sign and off.
