Hello and welcome to boost your brain power. I am your host, doctor Eric Kaplan. Hope everyone's having a great day so far. Summer is starting. We just want to make sure that we have a lot of experiences. If you want to improve your mood, you want to get out of depression, anxiety, It's

not about staying at home. It's about getting out. That is the key. Being social, getting sunlight, getting exercise, getting oxygen, being in nature. We have to do these things for our brain to grow and improve. Your brain like a muscle, you use it or you lose it. But you've got to strengthen your brain. You've got to challenge the brain.

The three most important things for your brain function are doing new activities, brain stimulation, getting the proper amount of oxygen, and eating the proper nutritional diet. And what's the proper nutrition. Don't complicate it. Just make sure you get each color of the rainbow every day, and you get all your nutrients. You don't need multivitamins. Multivitamins are unnecessary. So many patients to take multivitamins, and it's like, you're not deficient in all these vitamins. You

start taking vitamins that you're not deficient in, they can become toxic. Yes, you can get a lot of benefit from vitamins, but you want to be a minimalist. The very least amount of vitamins you take, the better, The very least amount of medication the better. The body is amazing at healing itself. We just need to unleash its potential. We got to feed a proper nutrition, proper oxygen, get the water, get the exercise,

and do brain stimulation. Everyone understands, oh, brushing your teeth every day, or I gotta go to the gym, or I gotta eat healthy, or I gotta get a good night's sleep, or drink water. But when I say you gotta do brain exercises every day, it's a new concept. But you got to challenge your brain. You gotta do something new every day. You gotta make yourself think. Retirement is the worst thing for the brain. If you retire and then you don't have to think because there's no job

stimulating your brain. That's an issue that's a big problem. So it's you know, you can change careers, but you can't retire. You gotta keep your brain strong. You've got to keep working, keep move and keep exercise and keep eating healthy. If you want to enjoy your life, you got to be healthy. People say, oh, I want to live along life. I don't want to live along life. I just want to enjoy my life. Well, guess what. You might live a long life, but

we need a quality of life. That's the key. It's all about your quality of life, and the way to have a good quality of life is to be healthy. That's the number one most important thing. It's not money, it's not relationships, it's not love, it's not good looks, it's not materials, it's not spirituality. It's health. Health is the most important thing. Nothing else matters without your health, okay, and everything gets boosted

when you are healthy. Then you can be more social, be more spiritual, exercise more, earn more money, love more people, do more charity. You know, if you're not healthy, how are you going to help people? You always got to take care of yourself first, take care of your health first, just like they tell you on the airplane, put your mask on first. Then help your child, then help others. But you've

got to prioritize your health. It's number one priority. So eating healthy is eating each color of the rainbow every single day with your fruits and vegetables. And avoid the white foods sugar, you know, flour, bread, basta, all those carbs. Got to stay away from those colorful cars, zucchini and squash. It's that color in there. Your brain likes that. Stay away from the white. Eat the color. Not too complicated. Don't eat things in boxes and cans and bags, that stuff that's stored, that stuff

in the middle aisles and the supermarket. Get everything fresh, organic, wildfish, free range chicken, organic meats, grass fed, humane conditions, no steroids, no antibiotics. You know, you might not take medication, but if you're eating conventional meat, you are. You're taking steroids and antibiotics because all that meat, all that chicken, all that turkey, all that beef,

it's pumped with medication and they could be fed genetically modified corn. So where you're getting your eggs from, where you getting your chicken from, where you getting your turkey from, super important. Even the fruits and vegetables. When you get organic, we don't want all the sprays on the food, all the chemicals that pesticides, the herbicides. Buy organic. If you can't afford like organic, buy the foods that have the large peels so those chemicals

don't leak into the food. Avocado, bananas, oranges, watermelon. So if you can't afford to buy organic, buy food that has large peels that are going to protect the insides from the chemicals that they spray on these conventional farms. So we have to eat healthy. It's number one. Number two,

you got to get that oxygen. I'm gonna get that oxygen. We're gonna do our posture exercises, roll those shoulders back, breathing exercises where you inhale for four seconds, hold for seven seconds, exhale for eight seconds. By plants in your house and apartment, a lot of them fill it with oxygen, so if you are inside, you're at least breathing some oxygen. Spider plants, snake plants, alo vera plants, money plants, they have lots of oxygen. Want to increase that oxygen. Got to get rid of

that carbon dioxide. So when you exhale for that eight sessions, really push out push, push, push, push, push, push, push, every last breath out you get rid of that carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide creates an acidic environment, and an acidic environment is where disease lives. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease. We do not want an acidic environment. When an alkaline environment. To get alkaline water, you could put pink

Himalayan salt in your water. So you get a nice water filter at home, one that attaches under the sink. You know, you spend that extra money now, you save a lot of money later if you're not buying the water bottles. That costs a lot of money. That creates environmental problems with all the plastic water bottles. That creates a lot of health hazards because you're drinking literally plastic. The average person has about a plastic as as much plastic

as the size of a credit card every year. That's how much most people intake in plastics. So when you store your food in plastic, you drink your drinks in plastic, you're getting these little micro filaments there. They affect your hormones, they affect your inflammation, They cook autoimmune disease, allergies, stay away from plastics, and store everything in glass containers are stainless steel. It's not gonna leach into the food or the water. Drink in stainless steel

container water drink glass water bottles. You can put a rubber covering in case you know you're clumsy and you drop in. You don't want to keep breaking glass water bottles. You get a little covering there, but at least the water that you're drinking does not full of plastics. You're right. And cook your food in stainless steel cookware as well. You want to stay away from

that aluminum the taplon those non stick pands. You know, there's a lot of easy, healthy ways to clean these pans just using you know, even I'm in baking, so that vinegar and so there's a lot of natural ways to keep everything clean without using all these chemicals. All right, the cleaning products have a lot of chemicals, and there's so many easy do it your home ways to make your own stuff that's a lot cheaper, better for the

environment, and better for your health. So those are super important tools. Now, how else can you increase your oxygen levels by doing diafraumatic breathing? Super important? When you inhale, you're gonna push your belly down and out like you're a pregnant woman. And when you exhale, everything's going to kind of suck back in and squeeze that carbon dioxide out. So on the inhale to maximize oxygen, you're pushing your belly down and out. On the exhale,

everything comes back in. So if you're not doing that naturally, better start practicing that. A lot of people that I evaluate in my office are not breathing that way naturally. They breathe through their necks and their shoulders and these accessory muscles for respiration, which is bad news, and then they're gonna get a lot of pain and headaches and dizziness. So we got to really

make sure we maximize our oxygen intake. Oxygen is key, food, water, oxygen, sunlight, you know, those are the basics that we got to take care of, right, but we got to do it on a daily basis. Sunlight is very easy. You just go out twenty minutes every day between twelve and two. That's it. Roll up those sleeves, take up those glasses, take up your hat, roll up your pant legs. Get some skin exposure. For twenty minutes a day, you're gonna get your

sunlight. Look up at the sky. Stop looking down so much. Start looking up at the sky, not directly at the sun, but most to it. Take off your glasses so your eyes can get the sun. All right, So not only do we need water, food, and oxygen, but we need sunlight. Just like the plants, water, food, air,

stun all the basics. I'm your host, doctor Eric Kaplan. So we were just talking about the three major ways to improve brain function, food, oxygen, and activation. There right, So food, we said, just eat each color in the rainbow, avoid the white foods. For oxygen posture,

we got to work on. Got to work on your diaphragmatic breathing. Got to work on the ratio of your breathing inhale for four seconds, hold it for salmon, exhale for eight. Got to have plants, spider plants, snake plants, allow vara plants, money plants in the house. And I gotta go outside in nature, in the trees, in the woods, in the forest, go outside, breathe that oxygen. Give those cheese the carbon dioxide by doing big exhales, and you take that oxygen inhale. I take

all the power. I literally go outside of my woods every morning. I take the oxygen from the trees. I give them all my carbon dioxide. I take the power from the sun. I literally look up towards the sun every morning as it's rising. I take the power, that energy from the woods and the sun, and I feel it go in my body. And

then I go down. I even touch the ground with my fingers, and then I explode up and I blow everything out, and I give all my healing energy to the trees, to all the people, to all my family, all my neighbors, my country, my world. I heal the world through my energy. I suggest everybody do that. Imagine if the whole world kind of went outside every morning, did some breathing, got some energy from the sun, and said, I'm gonna help heal the world. I'm gonna

help other people. I'm gonna give that's what we need to do. If everybody did that, the world would function at a higher level. We would have this higher vibrational energy. The world is limitless, but we have to create a healthy world. Unfortunately, right now, probably due to greed, we're poisoning our water, We're poisoning the air, We're blocking the sun, we're putting chemicals on our food. I mean, we're not taking care of

the most important things of our health. We don't want to block the sun. We don't want to put chemicals all over the fruits and vegetables that we eat. We don't want to stick our you know, animal products with steroids and antibiotics and raise them in in humane condition and use only genetically modified foods. We don't want to block the sun. To prevent global warming, we need the sun. We don't want to hide from the sun. You know, if you have skin cancer, that's different. But other than that,

the sun is healing. The sun prevents cancer. We don't need gloves and gloves of all at suntan lotion, especially at suntan lotion that you're gonna get you know, from the CBS, the pharmacy, Dwayne Read or whatever. You know, We're not gonna those chemicals literally cause all this inflammation that will cause a lot of damage. It's one of the most toxic stuff you can put on your body. So keep that in mind this summer if you want

something healthy so they don't get sunburnt. You know, I have very very pale, so I burn easily. So if I'm out at the beach or long time, yeah, I gotta protect myself I don't want to burn. I'll wear a hat, I'll wear glasses, I'll put on some zinc oxide because I don't like burning, But I do like sunlight, do you My vitamin D. Vitamin D is super important and it's the most common deficient vitamin.

It's actually a hormone. Now, you know, we said in the beginning of the show that we don't want multi vitamins because you're not deficient in

all of those vitamin you are probably deficient in. If you're listening to my show from the York in New Jersey, if you're a local listener, you're probably deficient in vitamin D. If you live, you know, in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic, or in Mexico or someplace closer to the equator, and your vitamin D levels are going to be higher, especially if you're outside a lot, especially if you're wearing short sleeves and you have lots of

skin exposure. But even here, if you're outside a lot but you're wearing long sleeves, you're not getting your vitamin D. So I personally in vitamin D deficient as well, unless I do supplements. So when I do blood work, if I am deficient in vitamin D. I know it's time to up my supplement. The supplement that I prefer is from apex Energetics. It's Ultra D five thousand. It's a liquid that's in fat because vitamin D needs

Most people are deficient in probiotics because they've taken antibiotics. You've ever taken antibiotics, you're probably deficient in bacteria, good bacteria, and when you need that good bacteria. Now host covid. Everyone uses antibacterial soap,

antibacterial lotion, antibacterial spread, antibacterial cleaning products, antibacterial wipies. Everything's antibacterial. And what that means is your body's not getting exposed to the bacteria. Bacteria is good. Most bacteria is good. Once in a while you get bad bacteria. But guess what if you have a lot of good bacteria, that is your best defense against bad bacteria. Understand that. So the best defense against bad bacteria is good bacteria. So that's why most people need

to take probiotics, not so many antibiotics. Oh my god, everyone, let's taken antibiotics, or they get put on steroids or anti acids or stating drugs. Oh my god, these are gonna be really bad for your brain. He's gonna be really bad for your inflammation. This is going to be really bad for your immune system, your digestive system. We have to be

careful with all this medication. You know, when a lot of doctors, when they prescribe this medication, they're not going to necessarily necessarily tell you all the side effects. Got to be very careful. If they're not going to tell you the side effects, you've got to look it up on your own. You've got to read the labels, and then you've got to make a decision. Does the risk outweigh the reward or does the reward outweigh the risk. So, if there's a lot of reward with little risk, that is

a procedure that I am all for. Conversely, there's a lot of risk and there is not so much of a reward, and that's something we have to avoid. But you got to put it on the scale which is higher the risk versus the reward. Right, So don't always do surgeries and medications. Those are very risky. Those should be a last resort. It's always best to try conservative therapy first, the least risky way, because there's so little a risk and so much reward. So that is always the best way

to do. The conservative way. The least intervention, the least medication, the least surgery, the least supplements, the least procedures at least radiation. Not as many X rays, not as many cat scans and pet skins and MRIs and mammograms and ultrasounds and sonograms and X rays, and you know, there's a lot of stuff that isn't necessary. All these colonoscopies and endoscopies and all this contrast fluids and all this radiation, and you know, look at

the procedures you're doing. It's not just the treatment that is risky, but it's also the testing that is risky. Right, So what type of testing will give you valuable information but has very little risk. Blood work that's pretty easy, it's the going to cause any problems. My favorite test as a functional rologist where we test a lot of brain is the q EEG brain mapping. So with the q EEG brain mapping, it evaluates all the different areas

of the brain. You're frontal core texture, parietal core text, your temporal core tex, occipital core text, or cerebellum, your brain stand. It goes all over the brain, every single area okay, and it says which areas are good and which areas are bad. Measures your brain waves alpha brain waves and beta and data and delta, and it says okay. Based on the location, you can tell us what's going to happen in your real life. Is it going to affect your memory? Is it can affect short term

memory? Is it gonna affect long term working memory? Sequential memory is it going to affect your focus, your motivation, your organization, your planning. It's it gonna affect depression, anxiety, sleep, insomnia. Is it can to affect your mood? Is it going to affect your energy? If you can affect your thyroid, your intestinal inflammation, your neurotransmitters. Now, this

test takes about twenty minutes, It's non invasive. I'm your host, doctor Eric Kaplan. Now we're talking about the risk verse the reward. You always want to do examinations, evaluations, treatments that have very little risk. Your body is only allowed a certain amount of radiation in your whole life before it becomes really bad, meaning cancer. You know, all this radiation can cause cancer. I know sometimes they tell you radiation and curious cancer, but can also cause cancer. So we want to avoid

as much radiation as possible. And everybody you know where they work, they're gonna say, up, this is not that much radiation. It's very little radiation. But when you keep doing it over and over and over and over again. You know, cat scans and pet scans and X rays and ultrastands and all these sonograms, all these radiation even mammograms. I mean, it's a lot of radiation. We gotta decrease it, all right, start using our hands. So you know, your best defense against breast cancer is using

your palpatory skills. So women just every morning feel your breasts. Feel what's normal every day, the top, bottom, left, right, all around, and you'll know, okay, wait, this feels weird. I'm not used to feeling this, and this feels weird. So you have to know your body and then if you find somebody, okay, then you do. But it's not just about you know, doing all these prevents that if things your best prevention is palpatient, all right, that's the hand you know,

the same thing for men. You could do the same thing with your testicles to prevent testicular cancer. You can for men. Also for prostate you got to get a prostate exam. The best, the best way to know if you have prostate cancers, get a prostate exam, and that's palpatient. It's

quick, it's easy. Your doctor knows how to do it. So they just go in very quickly and they can feel whether the prostate is too hard, or it's too big, or its hypercha feed urs inflamed and then they know, Okay, there's a problem there, but you gotta check it right. So the best is always the hands. You know, I need think doctors need to touch patients more. I need to use their hands, feel their bodies, Listen to their bodies. You know, pal pay, per

cuss all, scultate all the stuffs we're taught in school. We need to do more and more of it. You know. Feel the pulse pressure is their difference in left and right. You know, we gotta doctors look at balances. We gotta look at the blood pressure. When you go to the doctor, do they measure your blood pressure on the right side versus the left side? That's significant. You can have normal blood pressure on one side and really high blood pressure on the other side, or vice versa, and really

low blood pressure on one side and high on the other. A lot of different variables. You can have difference in pulse rate when you go from light to standing. That's significant. If you're you know, lying down and then you stand up and your pulse rate goes up more than twenty beats per minute, that's a problem that could indicate something called pots positional orthostatic tech cardio syndrome.

These people get light headed or dizzy. When they get up quickly head down, their heads down, and then they come up they get very light headed. This could be a problem to be related to your autonomic nervous system. You know, we need to get these things evaluated. So when you have symptoms, it's your brain telling you, hey, there's something wrong. You should have a life with no symptoms, no pain, no headaches, no dizziness, no visual problems, no skin problems, no problems going to

the bathroom. It is normal to have no problems. That is complete health. So if you do have symptoms, we want to get to the root cause of the problem. At my offices, I have two offices, one in New York and one in New Jersey. We try and be detectives. Let's get to the root cause of the problem. No, let's not just treat symptoms. Right, So, if you have trouble with sleep, I'm

not going to write a prescription for a sleeping till. I'm also not going to say, oh, let's just do something more natural and give you melatonin. That doesn't work either. You're still treating the symptom. You're not getting to the root cause of the symptom. Right Because you're taking something more natural, doesn't mean you're not treating the symptom. If you take melatonin to help you sleep, you're still in that medical mindset. You're still treating symptoms.

So what do you want to do right? If you have low energy when you take oh, let me take P twelve just to boost my energy. It's natural. Let me just drink coffee. Even though you're not medicating yourself, you're still treating the symptoms. The coffee is treating your low energy, or your bad mood, or your lack of bowel movements, or your headaches. Don't drink coffee just so you're gonna have a bowel movement. Don't drink

coffee just so you don't get a headache. Don't drink coffee because you need a boost of energy in the morning. Then it's a drug. You're treating symptoms. Get to the root costs. How come you don't have energy in the morning, how come you're not sleeping properly? That's why that q EG brain mapping is so important. You get to the root cost Say, oh, now I know why you're not sleeping. Probably this part of your brain isn't working. Oh now I know why your energy is low. This part

of your brain isn't work. Now I know why you have anxiety. This part of your brain isn't working. Now I know why your memory is not working. This part of your brain isn't working. Problem. So that qEEG is very good. The other good test is called a VG. This is video instography and for this test, you where these infrared goggles and the goggles will measure your eye movements and it can tell the connections between the left side and the right side. Is one side working too much? Is one side

working too little? It could really focus. Hey, is it more you know in the frontal because the fast eye movements are delayed or they're latent, or they're slow, or they're inaccurate. Or is it with the slow eye movements you have a sensory problem. Do you have approprial sceptive problem? And it can kind of break down where the problems. Is it underactive, is it overactive? Is the left side is at the right side, because then if we get to the root cause of it, then we could really focus.

Right. So a lot of people with anxiety and depression, they have one side that's overactive and one side that's underactive, and What they end up doing is taking medication to kind of shut off everything so you don't feel the anxiety and you don't feel depression. So the medication shuts off everything. However,

some of these medications shut off some of the good stuff. They might shut off joy, and they might shut off happiness, and they might shut off love, and they might shut off laughter, and you kind of lose your personality because it's shutting your brain off. We don't want to shut your brain off. We want to relax overactive areas, and we want to stimulate underactive areas. That gets you homeostasis, that gets you balance, that creates

stability, that creates connections, so your brain's not disconnected. Okay, the best test for it's called a VG. There's no radiation. Again, there's no risk. We're always measuring the risk verse the reward. So the V what we want to do is take these infrared goggles, measure your eye movements, analyze your brain, and then we could tell you right side, left side, underactive, overactive. This test is normally five hundred dollars, but

Now the other test I was talking about, you know where I said, Oh, we got to measure your blood pressure on the right side and the left side, and we want to measure

your pulse rate from lying to sitting. And we want to measure your heart and your pressure and your muscles and your posture and your alignment. That's a little bit more evolved. That's a one on one session with me that takes about forty five minutes. We also go over your history, we go over blood work, We check out your gut, your heart, your memory. We do this test called Amocha test, which is as to see how Alzheimer's or dementia or are you predisposed to it as it can't happen later on down

the line. It's the most common test, takes about five minutes. All neurologists around the world do this. It's the same test. It's called the Moocha tests. It's the standard test for dementia and Alzheimer's. We do that in our office. That would be part of your evaluation. That's part of the forty five minute evaluation where we do all these tests including your balance,

coordination. You know, we check your eyes and your ears everything. Most people complain about memory and focus, and what they do is they blame their age and say, ah, you know, my memory is just getting worse as I get older. A lot of people blame things on age. Oh my vision gets worse because I'm older. Oh I have more joint pain because I'm getting older, or my balance is off, or I'm not as strong. None of those are true. Your memory can improve as you get older. You can be in less pain as you get older. You can

be more energized as you get older. But the key is to challenge your brain. And the key is to strengthen your muscles, get your bones stronger. Right, so people say, oh, I'm getting older, I'm gonna get osteoporosis. No, but what you have to do is more weight resistant exercise, more vitamin D. Maybe you have to do more outside activities.

Maybe you need some bands, maybe you need some weights, Maybe you need to get a gym membership, Maybe you need to take a dance class, maybe you need to start doing a robix or maybe you need to do calistanas or But what you want to do is start improving your body, improve your nervous system, improving your heart. The key is to challenge yourself. So life is not easy. I always teach my kids. You know, life

is not easy. You have to work for it. If you want results, you got to work for it. If you want to get stronger, you got to lift weights. If you want your memory to improve, you got to challenge your brain. You know. Try and just challenge yourself with different brain tests. Remember people's phone numbers, and remember your grocery list, and try and remember directions, and you know, purposely challenge yourself and don't

rely on the technology. We were talking about before, about digital dementia. When people are relying on the technology, their brains become weaker. They use the GPS instead of a map, they use a calculator instead of math from their brain. They look at the phone book rather than memorize somebody's phone number. You know. They google everything or YouTube everything instead of learning on their

own. So the technology, all those convenient can actually make us worse and stupider and dumber digital dementiam And I want to do whatever I can to prevent dementiam. I don't want to wait till my memory starts getting mad and then start working on it. By that time there could be already permanent problems. So the key is to prevent. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You know, I don't want people to suffer and get Alzheimer's

disease. I saw it with my Grandma Datty. How every year after she moved to Florida, her brain got worse and worse. She lived a sedentary lifestyle. She just sat on the couch watching TV all day. Before she moved to Florida, when she was in New Yorker, she was always active. She was playing tennis, yet social interaction. She had her card game, she made dinner for the family. She was always dressing up and going

out and dancing, and she always looked so beautiful. But then once she moved down to Florida, she stopped cooking, stopped tennis, she stopped dancing, stopped cards, stopped the social event. So everything was put on hold and she became a sedentary lifestyle. Then her brain got worse and worse and worse. At first, it was just like, oh, where'd I put

my keys? And then it was like, wait a second, why did I come into the kitchen and the third and then it was like things started getting dirty or she stopped cleaning, she stopped cooking, she stopped remembering people's names, and then eventually got to the point where she had dementia and she was miserable. She had to go to a nursing home, she had to go to a wheelchair, shit to get a diaper, lost her memory, lost her passion for life. I don't want that to happen to anybody else.

So I became super obsessed with knowing the brain, learning everything about the brain and figuring out how to prevent dementia and how to prevent Alzheimer's. And that is my life goal, and that's what I do in my offices, that's what I write about in my books, that's what my social media is about. want to get outside and be social and get sunlined and have fun. Remember there's twenty four hours in a day. Eight hours is rest, eight hours is work, and eight hours is fun. If you function better, you feel better, you live a better life. And that is my goal, and that is my passion in life, is to help people improve their health, improve their well being because the power that made the body heals the body as long as we get rid of any interference and let the body heal on

its own. The Doctor of the future is not treating patients with surgery and medication, but is teaching people how to help themselves through diet, through posture, through brain function, and that is the future of medicine.
