This is doctor Eric Kaplan, and you are listening to boost your brain power. We're going to talk about how to increase energy, how to improve sleep. You shouldn't need caffeine or an energy drink
or coffee or tea to get you up in the morning. The best way to get up is to exercise that will give you a boost of energy. So you don't need coffee because caffeine is fake energy. It's not real. Just like taking melatonin at night is fake melatonin. It's now real. You want your body to produce its own melatonin so you get in a deep sleep. You want your body to produce its own atp and mitochondrial function so you can improve your energy naturally. There's lots of things that are stimulants, but
they have also side effects which are no good either. Coffee is a diuretic. Most people are dehydrated. If you want good brain function, you don't want to drink stuff that's going to dehydrate you. Coffee dehydrates you. Wantine dehydrates you, beer dehydrates you. Any alcohol is going to dehydrate you. So if you have a coffee in the morning and a glass of wine and
a night, you're already dehydrated before you even drink any water. So you have to add an extra glass of water for every cup of coffee or every drink of alcohol. The normal amount of water you're supposed to drink is half your bodyweight ounces, so if you weigh one hundred and sixty pounds, you
should drink eighty ounces of water every single day. The best time to drink water is on an empty stomach, and what you want to do is add a pinch of either pinkmelan salt or Celtic sea salt to give you the minerals to absorb the water. If you're just drinking you know, sani or poland spring water, that's acidic water and it's not gonna get absorbed into your body, so you're just gonna pee out the water and it's not gonna help with
hydration. If you want the water to be absorbed and you want to utilize the water so you don't get dehydrated, then you have to add salt, and I like to add a little lemon tew to give it a little flavor, or some lime. But you want to do that an empty stomach, first thing in the morning and a half hour before each meal. If you drink water with salt and lemon, and you exercise in the morning, and you go outside during sun rise, that's gonna increase testosterone. It's gonna increase
cortisol. It's gonna boost your energy. The worst thing is pressing that snooze alarm. You don't want to start off your day with a failure. The snooze alarm is starting your day off with a failure. You set an intention to wake up at a certain time, but then you press the snooze so you're literally starting the day with a failure. The rest of your day is not gonna be as productive. So if you want more energy, don't sleep in. I know that seems counterproductive. You would think if I want more
energy, I need to sleep more. That is incorrect. You need to get up earlier, and you need to exercise, yes, and you need to drink water. You need to go outside during sunrise. If you do those three things in the morning, you will not need coffee and if you do those things twenty one straight days without any coffee, then your body will start making its energy on its own, and you won't need a synthetic way to boost your energy, such as coffee, soda, energy drinks, caffeine,
sugar, whatever it is. These are all stimulants that we need to avoid. We already have enough stimulation. You don't need to add more. You know what also is a stimulant, food dyes, preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial chemicals. If you have stress, anxiety, sleep, decoration, insomnia, you better stay away from all those inflammatory foods. You better stay away from all those artificial foods because they're stimulants. Stay away from the sugars,
the candies, the breads. They give you a quick sugar high, but then you're gonna crash. It's not a lasting energy. You want lasting energy. You work out, You want lasting energy. You go outside during sunrise. You want lasting energy. You drink water on an empty stomach. What also gives you energy is eating all the colors of the rainbow. To get your energy, you need nutrients. That's how you get energies through food. But it has to be healthy. Food has to be real food.
Nothing in boxes, in cans, in bags. When you go shopping, stay away from the middle aisles. That's where all the junk food is. That's where all the foods with preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, all the chemicals, food dyes, artificial flavorings, those are all in the middle of the supermarket. All the fresh produce, the one ingredient foods are on the outside, So stay on the outside. Get all your colors of the rainbow red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. The colors represent different
nutrients. So if you eat each color of the rainbow every single day, you're going to get your nutrients. Then you won't need to take a multivitamin. There's so many people that take multivitamins. You don't need multi vitamins. You're not deficient in every vitamin. Why would you take a multivitamin, Especially in America where everyone just overeats. We have so much food. It's very rare to have a nutritional deficiency in America unless you're not absorbing your food properly.
Now that we see often there's something called hypochlorohydria, and that means decrease stomach acid. We're gonna see these impatients who have a lot of stress anxiety. If they've had stomach problems, they've taken antibiotics, or they've taken ant acids, rollaids, tombs, they've acid reflux into beginning medication, you need stomach acid, so don't take medication that gets rid of the stomach acid. Your stomach acid is going to break down your food so you can absorb your
nutrients. Your stomach acid is gonna kill off any virus or bacteria that you're exposed to. That's why during COVID they said don't touch your mouth because when you touch your mouth, now you're gonna swallow the virus of the bacteria. And if you have a leak gut where you're bloating, or you have stomach inflammation, this virus or bacteria is now going to enter your blood stream and
then it can attack your brain. That's why when we see a lot of patients with lime disease where the COVID nineteen long haulers, or people with epstein bar virus, herpes virus mono. We see a lot of people with different bacterial infections, you know, such as E. Coli, H. Pylori. So you can have infections, you can have viruses, and if your gut is inflamed causing a leaky gut, now the virus in the bacteria are going to enter your blood stream. Now they can attack different organs such as
your heart, or your lungs, or your brain. I don't want a virus attacking my lungs or my brain or my heart, so I want to make sure I have enough stomach acid. Most people do not have enough stomach acid. And your stomach acid is your first line of defense. Even if you get parasites, worms, fungus, mold exposures, not just viruses and bacteria, but your stomach acid is gonna kill off all that bad stuff.
So if you've ever taken an acids, you're gonna be more susceptible to nutritional deficiencies, to immune dysfunction, to leaky gut, ulci rate of colitis, IBS, gastritis, cibo, siliac disease. All these gut issues are gonna be aggravated if you've ever taken antibiotics or you've ever taken an acids, because that's gonna ruin your gut microbiome, that's gonna ruin your bile acid ratio. That's going to ruin your digestion and your absorption of your nutrients as well as
your immune system, and it will even affect your mood. You have more serotonin produced in your stomach than any place else, and serotonin is a mood stabilizer. So if your gut isn't functioning properly, you can actually have an issue with your brain. And I personally don't want an issue with my gut. I don't want an issue with my brain. Therefore, I will never take an acids. The only time you're going to get acid reflux is if
your systems aren't working properly. If your digestive system isn't working properly and you get backed up and the illeosecal valve doesn't open and you get fecal matter stuck in your intestines, then stuff's going to back up, and then the acid is going to go the wrong way. The most common foods that because acid
reflex are coffee, wine, bread, dairy products, corn soy. These cause a lot of digestive problems, so you've got to avoid those foods if you have reflex, or you want to avoid reflux so you can function better, feel better, and live a better light. Now you can't think properly, can't focus, can't remember, you lose strength, your eyes start getting tired. It's harder to read that is a dreanal fatigue. Because you're in stress
mode, you're using unnecessary energy. Your body is reacting like you're running away from a lion, but you're not running away from a lion, so you're using up all this energy to escape danger when there's no danger. That happens
when your autonomic nervous system is dysfunctional. It's called a dysautonomia. You're stuck in this fight or flight and you're not in the rest in digest and these type of people might have sleeping difficulties, digestive problems, frequent urination, hormonal problems, menstruation problems, can't get pregnant, lack of libido, lack of arousal, a rectile dysfunction. We see tons of this stuff at our office, and we're able to reverse it by rewiring your brain through a process called
neuroplasticity. You can heal yourself. You don't need drugs, you don't need medications, you don't need herbs and supplements. The body can heal itself. God gave you this amazing brain and this amazing body, but you just have to stop abusing it. Let it unleash its potential. You want to function at the highest level so you can have a good quality of life, but
it starts with doing the proper habits every morning. We already talked about exercising in the morning, drinking water in the morning, eating a healthy meal with all the colors of the rainbow in the morning. You eat for energy, so don't eat at night when you don't need energy. At night you're trying to go to bed. I can't tell you how many of my patients skip breakfast and have a huge dinner and then don't understand why they don't have energy
or why they're not sleeping properly. You must eat like a king for breakfast, a princes for lunch, and a pauper for dinner. You eat when you need energy. That's during the day. If you need to use electronics, do it in the morning or the afternoon during daylight hours. Then the blue light is not harmful. But if you're doing TV, computer, cell phone, iPad, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, watching the news, if you're doing this at night, it's going to interrupt your deep sleep.
You've got to get into those delta brain waves that are em the rapid eye movements. We need to get into a deep sleep. If you don't get into a deep sleep, you can never heal. When you're sleeping, that's when you reoxygenate. That's when you re energize. That's when you get stem cell production. That's when you get mitochondrial function. That's when you clear
out all your bad brain cells. Just like you have good bacteria to fight the bad bacteria, and you have good cholesterol to fight the bad cholesterol, you also have good brain cells to fight off the bad brain cells. When you sleep at night, you have these glial cells. I call them the brain nurses. So at night they clean everything up. They clean out all that junk, all those plaques, all those unnecessary proteins, all that junk, all those toxin, those heavy metals, the viruses, the bacteria,
the yeast, the worms. These glial cells clean everything out. But if you're eating late at night, now this stuff has stuff to feed on. To get good brain function, you have to do what's called autopogy. Autoplogy means you eat your own brain cells. And the Nobel Prize for Science and Medicine was about autology a few years ago. So people with Parkinson's or Alzheimer's or these severe neurological disorders got really good results with autopogy because they cleared out
the bad brain cells. You really can't get autopogy without fasting. You know, less than twenty four hours. If you just do a twenty four hour fast, it's not going to get too much autopogy. But when I'm trying to do autology, what I'll do is I'll stop eating from Friday night after dinner, and then I don't eat Saturday and don't eat Sunday, and then I'll eat Monday morning breakfast. So it's a lot more than twenty four hours, but it's really only two days. You're not eating Saturday and Sunday.
Now I have to do this when I'm not having a lot of activities. You don't want to do autopogy with this fasting. When you have to travel, you have to move, you gotta heavy lifting, you got to drive around, you gotta take care of your kids, you gotta do all these
things. You gotta go to work, you gotta do errands. If you have a weekend where you can kind of chill out, not do too much, that's the weekend when you want to fast, all right, Because it's hard to fast if you're active all the time and doing stuff because your brain needs energy for that. Okay, so that's called autopogy, which is at least a forty eight hour fast is going to clear out your bread brain cells in your gut. If you take an antibiotics, you must take probiotics because
if you have antibiotics, that kills off all the good bacteria. So then you need to replenish the good bacteria by taking probiotics and not with yogurt. Yogurt is not healthy because that's a dairy product. You should never have dairy products because they're from milk, and milk is for babies. Are you a baby, No, you're not a baby, so why would you drink milk. Milk is for babies who can't eat solid foods, so they get their
nutrition from their mother's breast. So if you're not sucking on your mother's breast, do not drink milk. If you are not a baby, do not have dairy products. No cheese, no ice cream, no yogurt, no sour cream, no cream cheese, no creamy sauces, no skim milk, no one percent wilk, no lactate, no dairy, no butter. You
want to be healthy, you stay away from all dairy products. You are not a baby, and you are not a cow, so that doesn't mean drink sheep milk because you're still not a baby and you're not a sheep. Do not drink goat's milk. You are not a goat and you are not a baby. When you are a baby, you should drink your mother's breast milk because you cannot eat solid food to get your nutrients, so you must get it through your mother. But after you can eat food, stop drinking
milk. The only drink you're supposed to have is water. Half your body weighting ounces every day. Drink it on an empty stomach. It doesn't count. If you're drinking water when you're taking your medicine. It doesn't count. If you drinking water with your tea or your coffee, or your soda or your juice. That's not water. That's coffee, tea, that's juice, that's soda, that's not water. Do not drink water with your meal. You want so lay water, which is the salt, the pinkamelan salt with
the water on an empty stomach. Two glasses white in the morning, a half hour before each meal, and one time at night to make sure you don't get dehydrated dry mouth. You don't want to get muscle cramps. A lot of people get cramps at night. The number one cause of cramps at night is dehydration. It's not magnesium deficiency, it's dehydration that is the number one cause of muscle cramps. So drink water at night, and drinking water
at night does not make you pee at night. Eating at night makes you pee at night. So you really need to stop eating four hours before bedtime. So if your bedtime is at ten pm, no more food after six pm, no more electronics after six pm, and you will see that you're not gonna wake up to urinate as frequently, because sleep is very important. But you don't want to be dehydrated all night because guess what happens to your
brain when it's dehydrated. Imagine it's like a grape that gets dehydrated. It shrivels up into a raisin. Do you want your brain to shrivel up? Another thing you can do in the morning to increase your energy is to listen to music. And what I do is in the shower, I blast the music. I start singing really loud. I put on my
favorite songs. I like the rocky soundtrack. That gets me pumped. I like my classic rock. I like my nineties hip hop gets me going. That gets me energy in the morning. And then when I'm in the shower, I end with cold. The last thirty seconds of the shower. You go all the way down to cold and you let it go on your face for thirty seconds and I scream that way. It doesn't hurt as much. I've been doing this for ten years. It's still not enjoyable, but it
boosts my energy. If you end your shower in cold water, you will never need coffee that will wake you up. Cold water in the morning will give you a nice boost of your brain power, get your blood in circulation going. You want to increase energy, you need more oxygen. How to get more oxygen, well, you can buy some plants for your house. A spider plant, snake plant, a money plant, alo vera plant.
They're all high oxygen producing. They're also filter out the bad stuff in your air, so they're air purifier these plants, so they give you oxygen for your lungs and your brain and your energy. But they also purify your air so you don't get pollution and you don't inhale all these bad toxins. Another thing you have to worry about with oxygen is your posture. Most people have
bad posture where their shoulders are rolled in or their chins tucked down. They got text neck from all these people looking down at their computers and their cell phones all day. Take a breath with your shoulders rolled down and your chin tucked in. It's very hard. Now, if you roll your shoulders back, chin up and take a big breath, you can get a much bigger breath. And the more bigger breath you get, the more oxygen you get. And to get more oxygen, you got to clear your lungs of carbon
dioxide. And the way to clear your lungs of carbon dioxide is to exhale twice as long as you inhale. So if you inhale for four seconds, you exhale for eight seconds. If you inhale for five seconds, you exhale for ten seconds. And work that try and get up where you inhale for eight seconds, that exhale for sixteen seconds. Then you get rid of so
much carbon dioxide and you can maximize your oxygen intake. Now, remember when you get rid of the carbon dioxide, giving that carbon dioxide to the plants in your house, or even better, if you're outside. When you exhale, you're giving that carbon dioxide to the trees in your backyard, or to your plants, or to the fruits and the veggies at the local farm,
and the flowers that are blooming. So when you're exhaling, not only are you getting rid of your toxins, but you're benefiting the earth and the environment by giving them the carbon dioxide that they need to survive. It's a symbiotic relationship. The plants in the trees give us oxygen, and we give the plants and the trees carbon dioxide. They benefit by our breath, we benefit
by their air. So when I do my breathing exercise every morning, I also imagine that as I'm exhaling, I'm giving the carbon dioxide to these big trees and all the plants and all the fruits and veggies to feed the world. So you're giving the energy to the plants and the trees at the same time of detoxing your lungs of the bad stuff. Also, when you inhale, you want to breathe through your diaphragm, So when you inhale, push
your belly down and out. That is called diaphramatic breathing. If you want to increase your energy, do diaphramatic breathing where you bring your chin up, your shoulders back, and you exhale twice as long as you inhale. That

Other ways to increase your oxygen besides the hyperbar oxygen chamber, working on your posture, working on your alignment the ratio and the plans that you use is to add actually do a vagus nerve type of breathing, which is inhale for four seconds, hold your breath for
seven seconds, and exhale for eight seconds. And what that's going to do is relax your nervous system, so you breathe in a more relaxed state rather than like a hyperventilating type of state where you have the short, shallow breasts. We want to get a more deep, relaxed breathing. So you inhale for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and exhale for eight
seconds. And if you're trying to get to sleep at night, what you do is you rub your face at the same time, and you rub your face where you go from the chin to your ear, and then you rub from your cheek to your ear, and then you rub from your forehead to your ear. That will get your brain in a more relaxed state. Another good thing to do before bed to get you better sleep is to splash cold
water on your face. Just like we wanted you to end the shower with cold water in the morning, it is also good to splash cold water on your face right before bed to get good sleep, it's good to be in cold, so sleep naked. Don't have the heat on all the way under the covers, all sweaty long pajamas and sweatpants and sweatshirts. You want to get a deep sleep, you want to re energize, you gotta be in the cold, keep your room cold. Sleep naked. That will improve your
deep sleep. And if you improve your deep sleep, then you're gonna get more energy. It's a no brainer. It's pretty logical. If you get more deep sleep and more rest, then you're gonna wake up with more energy. If you wake up all groggy, that means you're not getting a deep sleep. Yes, you might be in bed for seven eight hours, but are you getting a deep sleep. Not if you're waking up groggy. Not if you have to depress your snooze seven times. If you've got to wake
up with energy, then you're getting a deep sleep. And the best time to sleep is from ten to six. The hours before midnight are the most important hours. You have to sleep when it's dark. So if you're going to sleep and it's already after midnight, you've missed many hours of darkness where you should have been sleeping. Now your hormones are messed up. Now you're not gonna get that melatonin. Now, your cortisol is going to be too
high. I've had patients just improve their energy just by going to bed earlier. I've had patients lose weight just by going to bed earlier. I've had patients get rid of their brain fog just by going to bed earlier. But how are you gonna go to bed early. You got to stop eating earlier, you got to stop using electronics earlier. So the ideal situation is to eat from ten am to six pm and to sleep ten pm to six am, and between six pm and ten pm. No food, no electronics,
dim your lights down, nothing stimulating, nothing stressful. Don't read about the war in Israel and Iran and Ukraine and inflation and political corruption, racism, and earthquakes and fires and murders and stabbings. Don't do that at night. Do not watch the news, do not read the newspaper, do not listen to the radio news. It's all bad information. It's too stimulating. It's going to increase cortisol, and that's going to interrupt your sleep, and that's
going to take away your energy. And that's going to increase anxiety. So after six pm, listen to some music, listen to an audible book, listen to a comedian, read a book, talk to a friend or family member, play a game, go for a walk, join a book club, take a dance class, take a music class, get out of your house, do some charity work. But do not use electronics. Don't use the computer, don't use your phone. Don't go on YouTube, Instagram, social media, TikTok, don't go on the TV, don't go on the
iPad, the computer. Turn off all the electronics. Don't snack. Only drink water at night. No food, no electronics from six pm to ten pm to get a better sleep, to increase your energy, to function better, feel better, and live a better life more. food after six pm. Now, in your house after six pm, dim the lights. So if it's six pm, seven pm, eight pm, nine pm and all the lights are bright, then your brain doesn't realize it's night time and it's harder for them to stimulate melatonin, which is going to get you that deep sleep. So if you're outside you look out, watch the sunset and watch the moon come out, and watch the sky get dark, then your brain can do it. But if you're inside, you're not
going to see the sky becoming dark. So what you do is artificially turn your house dark dim the lights. Turn off the ceiling lights, make them darker. Just use the desk lamp. So each hour set seven o'clock, eight o'clock, nine o'clock, ten o'clock less and less light. Light stimulates cortisol. Light is going to interrupt your sleep. You must be in dark, so it must be super dark by ten pm bedtime, right, So use light to your advantage so you can get that deep sleep. And then
when you wake up. Now we want a lot of light. Turn on all the lights. Go outside during sunrise so you can see the sun coming up. That's the time to use electronics. Check your email where the blue light is helpful for you because it's going to increase your energy. So if you want to use electronics, use them in the morning. That's going to increase your energy. If you got to text messages, emails, you want to go through social media, you want to do reports, you want to
do typing, you gotta do it in the morning. In the afternoon when the sun's the brightest. The law of the sun dictates. All you want energy, you need sun exposure. Get out of the house. Stop being in the house all day, Go outside during sunrise. Go outside during sunset. Go outside during lunchtime, even if it's for ten minutes. Go outside
where the sun is the strongest from twelve to two and look up. Let those sun rays hit your face, Let them hit your eyes, open up your hands, reach up to the heavens, and absorb that power from the sun. Gives you vitamin D. It gives you energy. It also prevents Alzheimer's disease. You don't want to mention Alzheimer's. You better get your vitamin D levels up. That means get out in the sun. Don't listen to these doctors that say the sun is dangerous. We'd all be dead without the
sun. Every tree would be dead, every plant, every fruit, every human being, every animal, we'd all be dead without the sun. And we're purposely hiding from the sun all day long. No, get outside, get some exposure. When COVID nineteen happened and they said stay inside, stay inside, stay inside, said no, that's the worst thing, because people who have low vitamin D are the ones with the worst outcomes. So when they were telling you to stay inside, I was saying, no, I'm
going outside. When I go outside, I'm getting vitamin D. And that's gonna boost my immune system when they close the gyms because of COVID nineteen. I exercise more. Exercise is going to boost your immune system. Exercise is going to give you more energy. Exercise is going to prove your mood. I don't care what your condition is. Exercise helps heart disease. You need to exercise. Diabetes, you need to exercise. Cancer, you need to
exercise. Alzheimer's you need to exercise, Parkinson's. You better exercise. MS. You got to exercise. Autism, add ADHD, dyslexia, OCD, depression, anxiety. You have to exercise. Exercise is the cure for almost every condition, except if you break your foot. Running isn't gonna help your foot heel. But other than a trauma like that, exercise helps every single condition. Your muscles will atrophy if you don't use them. Your bones will
become weak if you don't use them. People do not get osteoporosis because they're older. They get ostinporosis because they don't exercise. They don't do weight resistant exercise. They become weak and their bones become brittle. Your memory does not get worse because you're getting older. Your memory gets worse because you stop doing new things, and you stop learning, and you stop stimulating your brain, and you stop and you started doing the same thing every single week. If
you want your memory to improve, you got to do brain exercises. If you want your posture to improve, you got to do posture exercises. It's not rocket science. If you want your vision to improve, you could do vision exercises. Stop listening to people telling you that your vision gets worse with age. Your posture gets worse with age, your memory gets worse with age. Your joints get more pain with age. Your arthritis gets worse with age. Lie Lie, Lie, Lie Lie. They're all lies. You want
to know the truth. If you work for it and you do eye exercise, your vision can prove. If you work for it and you do memory exercises, your memory can improve. If you do energy exercises, your energy can improve. If you do sleep exercise, your sleep can improve. Just like you could do muscle exercises and your muscles could get stronger. You could do weight resistant exercises. Your bones can get stronger. If you run, you could get faster. It's common sense, but you gotta do it.
You gotta do the work. Don't come to me if you're looking for a doctor that's just gonna give you some magic pill, some special supplement or herb or injection or some CBD to fix your problem. Those are hiding symptoms.
